Remote Desktop Connection certification issue with Win Server 2008 R2

$

When connecting to Windows 2008 server R2, from Windows 7, Vista and Mac OS 10.6.7 via Remote Desktop Connection, i am getting a 'Server Name on the Certificate is Incorrect' error.

if i click connect, i can still connect to the machine, due to a 3rd party managing the server, this doesn't look very professional on my part...

The server is a standalone machine and is not currently on a domain. RDC is only used for management purposes.

How to Setup RDS custom property when internal and external domain name space is different

$

Hi All

I am setting up RDS for customer

My internal domain name is domain.local and my external domain is domain.com

I came across below PowerShell cmdlets on some blogs because my internal and external name space are different

Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration –CollectionName QuickSessionCollection -CustomRdpProperty “use redirection server name:i:1 `n alternate full address:s:remote.domain.com”

In above command, remote.domain.com points to which host?

Is it pointing to RD Session Broker

OR

Pointing to RD Session Host servers

I am not sure what above command will do exactly ?

Any help will be highly appreciated

Thanks Best Regards Mahesh

How do you remove virtual desktops from a Windows Server 2012 R2 Pooled VDI collection

$

All - I have created a Pool VDI Collection with 15 total virtual desktops in it. I need to reduce the number of virtual desktops in that collection to five. I have searched through the GUI, TechNet and done a number of Google searches but nothing helpful comes back. Does anyone know how to do this?

I am guessing I cannot just delete them out of Hyper-V since the collection knows how many desktops it is supposed to have assigned to it.

Thanks in advance.

RDS 2012 + DirectAccess

$

Hello

I’m not able to start any RemoteApp from my new RDS 2012 test farm when using DirectAccess from outside.
On the internal company network it just works without any problems.

Here is my setup:

RDS 2012 Farm:
RDweb
RD Connection Broker + Licensing server
RD Session Host

DirectAccess:
Forefront UAG SP1 + latest rollup.
Working and in production, where users access other internal company systems from outside without any problems.

I can access and login to the RDweb server, but when I try to start a RemoteApp it times out with the error message below.

Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) The remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network

If I start mstsc and connect directly to the RD Session Host server I can connect and get a full desktop.
So the problem must be DirectAccess and the RD Connection Broker

Any help with this would be much appreciated

Thanks,

Jesper

User Assignment not working for Remote App Web Access

Hello,

I have installed a new 2008 R2 server with TS Web Access.  I have a test account which is only in the Domain Users group and the TS Remote Access group.

I have published multiple apps with some of them being limited to certain groups via the User Assignment tab but my test account can see all the apps.

Is there a trick to this?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

All machines and 2003 domain are on the local network and have current updates
Test client machine is XP SP3
TS/RD server is member of Windows Authorization Access Group
TS and RD Gateway are on the same server (only using 1 server for all RD/TS roles)
Forcing users to connect through RD Gateway
Using SSL
TS/RD server is not a DC
Upgraded from x64 2008 to x64 2008 R2

Remote Desktop Environment

Hi all

I set up a RD Environment.

I have 2 Servers with RDWA & RDGW on the DMZ (Server C) and on Server on the extranet (Server B). One Server with RDCB (Server A) and a Server with RDSH (Server D). All Servers are on the same domain.

When I login to the RDWA Server C, I can see my session host as a RD connection. If I click on it from internal, everything works fine (Connection is done to Server A but then I'm connected on Server D as expected). If I click on it from the Internet, I get the Error, that the Server C cant be found. Do I have to publish the DNS for the RDCB Server (Server A) to the Internet?

I have the same, if I publish some WebApps. from Internal it works fine. From the Internet, I get an Error. I tried to add a hosts entry for the RDSH and the RDCB. But then I get the error, that it can't be connected, because RD is not activated.

Thanks for any advise.

Best Regards, Daniel

Hello,

I'm receiving warning messages from one of the Exchange mailbox servers:

Process powershell.exe (). <Domain controller name> is a read-only domain controller. Exchange Active Directory Provider requires that domain controllers are not read-only.

My question is can I define a different DC to be used instead of the RODC ?

RDS 2012 - unable to connect to SH via webgateway

$

Dear all,

we have setup a RDS 2012 system following this article;

rds8-standard-3-node-remoteapp-deployment-on-windows-server-2012

It all went ok as far is I could see but Im running into the following problem.

If I use MSTSC to connect through the gateway directly things work, I get the desired SH desktop without a problem. (eg connect to SH001.domain.local using the web url for the gateway/webserver).

If I go to the external website and try to setup a connection it goes into somekind of loop. It first gives me a security warning stating it wants to connect to the connection broker, then I get a certificate error from the connection broker, which is correct in this case, I choose to ignore the certificate warning and continue anyway. RDP then continues; Securing external connection, checking bandwith, starting the external connection. And there it hangs, it doesnt go any further and tries to connect for ever.

The external adres of the gateway is xxx.xxxx.nl and internally it xxx.xxxx.local not sure if this could be related. I noticed an article with a powershell script that would change the .local into .nl

Strange thing it worked before. I even went as far as  trashing all 3 machines, removing the roles and removing them from the domain to run the install again on fresh machines with new DNS names. Still no luck.

Not sure on how to troubleshoot this any further. Eventlogs on the GW and CB show nothing special, no errors. One thing that I do notice is a recurring WMI 5605 ID - The root\cimv2\RDMS namespace is marked with the requiresEncryption flag. Access to this namespace might be denied if the script or application does not have the appropriate authentication level. Change the authentication level to Pkt_Privacy and run the script or application again.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Best regards,

Louis

Environent

1) One Remote Desktop Server hosting applications

2) One RDS server performing gateway services

Both servers are Windows 2008 R2 SP1.

Error:

The root\cimv2\TerminalServices namespace is marked with the RequiresEncryption flag. Access to this namespace might be denied if the script or application does not have the appropriate authentication level. Change the authentication level to Pkt_Privacy and run the script or application again.

Attempted Resolutions:

1) checked that Web Access Computers exists in wmimgmt.msc, properties, security, cimv2, terminal services with default permissions of Execute methods-enable accounts/remote enable options are checked.  THEY ARE

2) The seesion broker computer (gateway server) is also listed.

Done web searches but not finding answer

Any ideas?

Color Settings for Remoteapps

Hi,

i recently installed a Windows 2012 R2 RDS Host with some remoteapps. we also rolled out the new RDP client to all workstations as recommended.

everything works fine so far but now i want to improve user expirience a bit.
some apps are using large datagrids which are displayed a bit slow to the clients. in the old environment these apps where configured with a display mode of 16-bits and worked well.

so, finally my question:
is it possible to reduce the 32-bit display mode of the RDS-Host? are there any other (new) options in Win 2012 R2 to optimize the display performance?

by the way, i really hate the new servermanager of 2012 an its hidden menus. thats terrible!

best regards

Windows 2008 R2, install Citrix Receiver?

$

Hi,

Is it a good idea to install a Citrix Receiver on a terminal server?
Goal is to give remote users (which already use the terminal server and their apps) the possibility to connect to another terminal server in our site without the need to open extra firewall rules.

So remote users => terminal server on internal network => citrix server.

RDS 2012, Remote Desktop Services are currently busy (blank username sessions)

$

Hello,

a week ago we started to get this problem when new users can't logon to a RemoteApp.

They either get the "Remote Desktop Services are currently busy" or login is taking very long (like 10 minutes or so).

This usually happens once a day or two, had never happened twice a day, at least yet.

If I check task manager at that time I can find few sessions with blank usernameand just 4 processes or blank username without any processes at all.

I can logoff blankusers with processes, but I have no idea how to kill blank usersession without any processes.

Rebooting the server seems like the only option, to let new users logon to the server, but it is very painful during production hours.

Our time session limits are configured as follows:

Set time limit for disconnected sessions: 1 minute

Set time limit for active but idle Remote Desktop Services sessions: 2 hours

End session when time limits are reached: enabled

Set time limit for logoff of RemoteApp sessions: Immediately

The situation is as following. All servers are Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise.

We have clustered 2 virtual servers FP001 and FP002, for now FP001 is running all services:

Connection Broker, MSDTC, Fileserver, Printserver, SQL Server.

For the Remote Apps: Apps were made on TS001 and TS002, both these servers are added to a tsfarm on the Connection Broker. A virtual IP was made on the firewall linked to a failover between the two Terminal Servers. This IP was linked to DNS name: tsfarm.contoso.local.

I have checked WMI en COM+ security settings but they all seem fine, nothing changed. I have restarted both Terminal Servers but no effect. Restarting FP001 and FP002 had no effect either.

Any assistance is welcome!

Installer is no longer responding

Hi All,

We have a problem installing or uninstalling any software package on a Windows Server 2008 R2 RDS server.

The server is a virtual machine, running in Hyper-V.

It's the second time we're getting this issue, for the same customer. The last time i reinstalled the server because i could'nt fix it. It doesnt matter if we use install mode (for RDS servers) or not.

When we try to unistall (for example) Symantec Endpoint Protection, the un-installer is running but after a while it's responding with:"Installer is no longer responding". We can choose for cancel or retry but it's returning every time when i choose retry.

It's not only Symantec. Some other Examples: Adobe Acrobat Reader, Unit4 etc. etc.

Hope anyone can help me to fix this problem.

Thanks in advance,

Regards Raymond

RDS 2012 - HTTP & UDP Gateway Connections Reset

$

Hi

I have a single Windows 2012 R2 RDS server, which acts as all the RDS roles, including RD Gateway.

I also have an Windows 2012 R2 IISARR server setup to reverse proxy 443 connections to the server, and have port 3391 open on our firewall to allow UDP connections.

In short, if I connect using an RDP 8 client, I get three connections as expected. One HTTP and two UDP. If I connect using an RDP 7 client, I get one RPC-HTTP connection, again as expected.

The problem is that whereas the RPC-HTTP connection is stable, the HTTP & UDP connections disconnect every 2-5 minutes. The client screen goes black and a Reconnect Attempt 1/20 windows is displayed. Each time though the connection re-establishes itself and the session is not reset.

In the gateway manager, monitoring page, you can witness these connections disconnecting and re-connecting. It's very puzzling. The event logs acknowledge the disconnect, stating reason 0.

On the Windows 8 clients, I've tried the recent hotfix 2897602 and tried turning off Windows Location Services. But that doesn't help.

I've read a lot about UDP and RDP8, with some saying it doesn't work properly and that you should turn it off. However, I have it turned on as I was having problems scrolling PDF files in the remote session, which the UDP connections fixed.

Any help with this would be much appreciated. I've done so much research and spent so much time on it...

Thanks

Andrew

RDP from internet not working in Hyper-v VMs

$

Hello .

Sorry for my english .I hope to explain clearly my problem .
I 've Hyper-v on Windows 2008 server r2 . I've 3  Virtual networks ( External , Private and internal ) .
In my VMs there are two domains . The first one is bound with internal Vn and the second is bound with private Vn. My Host RRAS  is configured to switch inbound connection RDP (3389) to a second RRAS (Virtual machine bound with private network) . Last RRAS does port forwarding correctly to the machine for RDP connection ( port 3389) request .
RDP works only from host and VMs but not from internet in private vn.
RDP from internet  connects but when try to configure session disconnects . Any ideas ?
Netstat says  "SYN-RECEIVED" then disconnects .
All other services work fine (http mapped between RRAS host and RRAS vm i)  and RDP works in private virtual network from internet . I think the problem is nat over nat for port 3389 in internet connection .  I've tried to disable firewall but not works .

Thanks

"identify of the remote computer cannot be verified" popup when connecting externally using RDWEB

$

I currently have Windows 2012 R2 Remote Desktop services configured with RDWEB. From the Internet, the user can openhttps://mypublicdomain.com/rdweb, login, and click the icon to initiate a Remote Desktop services session to one of my hosts. However, anytime the user clicks on this link, there is a pop-up stating "the identity of the remote computer cannot be verified". It lists the proper publicly trusted SSL certificate, *.mypublicdomain.com. However, the "requested remote computer" is remote_desktop_connection_broker.myinternaldomain.local. Since the certificate does not contain my internal domain name, this error keeps coming up. Is there way to change the "requested remote computer" to be an FQDN that matches the certificate?

Here's what my environment looks like:

  1. Remote Desktop Services Gateway: RDSG1.myinternaldomain.local. This server also has remote desktop web access and I've published the public URL RDS.mypublicdomain.com with a trusted 3rd party SSL certificate (there's no trusted certificate for myinternaldomain.local)
  2. Remote Desktop Services Connection Broker: remote_desktop_connection_broker.myinternaldomain.local
  3. Remote Desktop Services Session hosts: RDSH1.myinternaldomain.local, RDSH2.myinternaldomain.local, RDSH3.myinternaldomain.local

Thanks!
