IE 9 on RDS Farm makes user HTTP redirection

$

Hello

I have a strange behavior for which I can't find a solution:

I have an RDS Farm (Windows 2008R2) and my users use IE9. When they connect to one our business Tools (developped in Java) they connect perfectly. In the following day when they reconnect IE9 make auto redirection to the localhost (on the IIS local) and I receive n error 404 from my local IIS. IE 9 don't change the URL typed in the bar but make a background redirection.

I tried to reconnect after 30 minutes (timoeut of the apache server) but it still works the behavior appears after the night.

Once the problem appears if I type an IP address in the URL IE doesn't change nothing in the address bar but makes a background redirection to localhost. If I type the DNS name it works normally.

Please help me because I am losing all my hairs on this problem.

Thanks in advance

Problems accessing 2012 Server Essentials via Remote Web Access

Hi

I have a deployed server running Server Essentials 2012 that is configured with Remote Web Access.

The server also has an application server running on the standard HTTPS port (tcp/443)

I have changed the IIS configuration for RWA to run on a non-standard port (tcp/4433) and authentication works fine.   When i click the link to access the server, the remote RDP client tries to connect to the server but comes back with an error telling me "the server address requested and certificate subject name do not match"

Upon examination of the certificate, it is actually for the application server running on tcp/443, not RWA on tcp/4433

Is there a way of manually configuring this so it connects to the correct instance ?

I tried to install the RD Gateway Manager but it appears not to work

Does anyone know how a workaround please ?

No RDS Servers at when trying to add to connection broker farm

Hello,

My client has 2 servers, Windows Server 2012 R2. One named "TW01" which is a Session-Host server, another called "RDSBROKER" (its actually called DC....-02, but i'll just stick to "RDSBROKER") which is a Licensing Manager, Web Access and Connection Broker.

We would like to add TW01 to RDSBROKER's Connection broker farm. The problem is there are no servers to choose in the list.

I've attached a couple of pictures for your convenience.

Thank you.

2.And When we select "Devices and Printers" Menu it won't display any Printers. And when we restart spooler service it display all the installed Printers. In Short users are unable to Print and office application gets hang.

3.For Some users Excel 2013 gives an pop-up window "Microsoft Excel is waiting for another application to complete an OLE action"

The Printers are installed on Terminal Server through Print Server.

I had tried with Repairing and reinstalling Office 2013 but still the same issue

And for some users they won't face such issue.

Have any idea why Office application is hang and none of the Printer is displayed under "Devices and Printers" ?

Thanks

how do RDP clients obtain license from host/license server?

Hi,

I have a W2k8 R2 server setup with Remote Desktop Session Host and Licensing. This will be used to allow more than 2 RDP connections to a server.

Can someone explain the process from the client side, getting the license from the host/licensing server, then connect to the server they need to manage?

What configuration is needed on the client/server side to know it needs check for a RDP license?

Thanks in advance,

RD Gateway in DMZ with RODC, computer password updates

$

We're bringing up an RDP 2012 farm which will have a pair of Gateway servers out in the DMZ.  After considering our options with respect to AD membership, we would prefer to use the RODC approach as we already have one in the DMZ.  My confusion is about communication that requires write access, like updating the computer account password in AD.  I see the approach is a recommended method form Microsoft, but how are issues such as the account password change addressed?

I found http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2009/02/15/test2.aspx that talks about disabling the password change on the machine, but is there a better way than registry hacks to make this work, or am I completely overthinking the whole situation?

I'm aware we could also setup a reverse proxy, setup a DMZ domain and create a 1-way trust, or open all the ports necessary for communication through the firewall, but this option seems best for us.

Windows 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Service Role pickup 2012 RDS License Server.

I am installing Citrix onto a Windows 2008 R2 server as part of this I need to setup the RDS Role on the same box and then point it to the Windows RDS License server.

Our plan is to have a Windows 2012 License server for RDS Licenses i.e. install 2012 RDS Licenses.

I was wondering if it was possible for a 2008 R2 RDS role to pick up 2012 RDS Licneses from a Windows 2012 RDS Server?

Many thanks,

Steve

Windows 2008 R2 Standard Remote Desktop Users cannot Connect

I have a windows 2008 R2 Standard Terminal Server and some users aren't able to connect even though they are in groups that are in Remote Desktop Users on the local computer.  I checked the local security policy setting "Allow log on through Remote Desktop Services" and I see that Remote Desktop Users is a member of this group.  Inside of Remote Desktop Users we have DOMAIN\Domain Users and DOMAIN\Terminal Users.  Most of our users are in both groups, but there are still some people that aren't able to connect via Remote Desktop to this computer.  There are no users in "Deny logon through Terminal Services."

Thanks!

RDS on Windows Server 2012

I am attempting to setup an RDS configuration on 5 servers (2 RD Connection Brokers, 2 RD Session Hosts and 1 RD Web Access) with Published Apps. I have been reading articles on this but am still confused as to the correct process to set this up. So my question is this. Does anyone know of any article outlining what the proper steps are to setting this up on dedicated servers for each role? All I have found so far are articles outlining how to set this up all on 1 server. I'm not sure if the steps are exactly the same for doing g this on a farm of servers.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Len

Hi, we have a SQL 2008 R2 Application who is slower over my brand new 2012 R2 RDS RDP Access than in the Console of the ESXi 5.5 Server.

I Access via Session Broker 2012 R2 to my RDS Farm. If i now start the application, its going 5-8 sek. if i do the same directly on the esx Console, its going 1 sek. also if i do that from my old 2008 R2 Farm!

I have test a lot of things, more/less cpu, ram and all networ overload disabled, i have test all what i have found in the WWW :( but nothing helps....

what can that be? pleas help me, our developer are realy angry :) thx.

The Remote Desktop Connection Broker server could not enumerate the targets for the provider named NULL from the database.

When I try to install Connection Broker on a Windows 2012 R2 Server in a Windows 2003 domain I get this error:

The Remote Desktop Connection Broker server could not enumerate the targets for the provider named NULL from the database.

Pooled virtual desktop collection name: NULL
Error: Logon to the database failed.

I have added both the Connection Broker server and the 2 remote desktop servers (also Windows 2012 R2 Servers) to the "Windows Authorization Access Group" in the domain according to this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331951

But it still does not work :-(
I keep getting same error....

Any idea what I might be missing ?

Server 2012 and The task you are trying to do can't be completed because Remote Desktop Services is currently busy.

We have experienced this in the past on 2008R2 servers and have resolved it by installing: kb2661332

This is occurring on Server 2012 and I do not see any hot fixes specific to this issue.

I believe we have exclusively seen this occur to users reconnecting to disconnected sessions. New users can login fine. The disconnected users cant until the server is rebooted. It appears to be erratic as to when it occurs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Network printers disappear upon reconnect to a disconnected session.

I am having this weird issue with our printers, we have a 2012 R2 RDS Farm. Its working great expect one issue.

I can add Network Printers (been testing with 7 shared from UNC \\printserver\) and then login at another workstation or thin client and have my session pulled over from one machine to another and all the printers disappear, then after a few moments maybe 1,2 or all the printers will come back. Most time its only two or one. Its also random, could be any combination of printers and models.

I see in the registry under the user that the printer is there in Printers\Connections. I have also ran ProcMon and saw that spooler scans upon reconnect the registry tree but will randomly stop or skip keys. I am not sure what is causing this, but I can replicate it over and over again.

Is there any reason windows as remote desktop server would just upon disconnect or reconnect purge the printers?

Has anyone see this?

I see nothing in the event logs at all for printers, I have used the HP UPD and also the device model print driver, disabled Easy Print you name it. Still an issue.

We are also using Wyse Thin Clients, don't know if that will help.

Thanks!

Second RD Virtualization Host Won't Display Templates

I have a working Windows 2012 R2 RDS infrastructure built and several VDI Desktop collections working.   I have added a second RD Virtualization Host to the deployment.  I ran thru the wizard to install it and then I migrated a Win 7 Sp1 template that was working on my original RD Virtualization Host to it. I also have several other VMs shutdown on that host.  Now when I try to deploy a new connection the Select Desktop Template it only shows the VMs on my original host - nothing from the new one.  Any ideas?

Office on RDS on Server 2012 licensing

$

I have a client using RDS on Server 2012 to run proprietary software. They would like to begin allowing their sales force to connect to the server via iPads and run Office, which isn't yet installed on the server.

Thus far I've come to the understanding that what that will take is a volume license for Office installed on the server and an RDS license (they already have several) for every concurrent connection.

My questions are -

1) Am I right about installing the Office volume license on the server?

2) Do they need Office installed on the client device as well? (I wouldn't think so, but some things I'm reading say otherwise)

3) One of the reasons they want to switch to iPads (or Android devices or whatever) is to limit cost if their salesperson looses or breaks their device. So my question is, does the volume license count concurrent connections like the RDS license does or is it somehow "tied" to the remote devices? For example -- If a salesperson does lose their device is it possible just to get another one and have them start using it without any additional licenses or is the license that was "tied" to the old device just gone forever and we have to purchase another one to connect the new device? If the salesperson wants to RDS into the server from their home computer while their iPad is off and connect to their RD session would that require another license? Or, if one of the people who connects to RDS who doesn't need to use Office accidentally opens "Word," will that license be then "tied" to their computer and wasted?

Thank you for any help,

Jeff Minch

RDS2012R2 User Printers Showing Up In All User Sessions

$

Hi There,

I'm having a rather odd and annoying issues with our client's RDS servers and some printers. Some users printers seem to 'bleed' to all other users sessions.

Printers are all configured on the same print server and are shared out from there. Onsite IT then manually add printers to users sessions as they need them.

However, for some reason some printers are showing up in all user sessions, which is causing Devices and Printers to show 2 and 3 of the same printers installed. I'm logged into the server as my domain admin account and I have no printers installed under my profile (other than XPS/Onenote/cutePDF as these are local printers), yet as you can see from the below screenshot, all the printers highlighted in blue show up, and these show for all users.

When I try to remove these printers one of a few things happens:

    1. Nothing. The printer does not remove and it just stays there.
    2. It disappears for a second and then reappears at the end of the list.
    3. It disappears for a few minutes and then reappears on its own.

Interestingly enough, these printers come and go on their own through out the day and it appears to be related to user logons, but I've been unable to narrow down what users are causing what printers to appear for all users.

Printer redirection is turned off so cannot be the cause.

How is such a thing even possible given that if the printer was installed as an admin, then it would show up all the time and removing it would actually remove the printer and user printers are meant to stick to that users sessions.

And more importantly, how do I resolve this annoying issue as it is confusing users when they have multiple printers to print to of the same type.

RDP screen goes black after successful remote login

I have a Windows 2008 Server that I have been connecting to once a month remotely to apply OS updates.  Often, I reboot that server and it uses auto-logon to login and run an application.

Today, I rebooted the server and when I try to connect with RDP, I get the login prompt and enter my credentials, I see a few expected messages fly by on the host OS (the last one I see is the word Welcome), but then the screen goes black.

The apps on the server are running successfully because our applications can connect to them, we just can't logon to the desktop of the Windows Server 2008.

I made no configuration changes (I NEVER do) other than to apply the latest Windows Server updates.

I would prefer not to drive to the computers location, or try to coordinate a time to have the server hosting company assist me with troubleshooting; but is there anything else I can do?  Any ideas about what might cause this?

    Optimize Start Menu Cache Files

    Hi,

We have setup a brand new Remote Desktop Services farm with 10 Session Hosts for 200 users.

Now we see the Task 'Optimize Start Menu Cache Files xxx(SID)' for about 200 times on every Session Host server.

These can be deleted but they return whenever a user logs onto a specific Session Host server.

    How can this be prevented?

This has been addressed in another thread (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/how-do-i-permanently-delete-this-task-scheduler/0fd8f7a0-c182-45c1-ad42-f02d768cb295), but the solution there would be to stop the Tasks individually of stop the Task Scheduler. Both are obviously not what I, or anyone else, want.

    Regards,

    Sjoerd
