upd 2012r2

Dear reader,

I have 5 rds 2012r2 in a session collection. I have upd pointed to a single file server. This all wordks fine.

Now i'm migrating upd to another file server.

When changing the path to the new file server, two servers are missing in the share and ntfs rights that the session collection sets at the new file server. I added them manually. Now it seems that users get event 1511 after logging in on one of these rds servers. Does anyone have a clue why these two rds servers are beahving different than the others? And why the session collection cannot add the rights correctly?

Problems with NLB settings in Terminal Services 2012

Hi,

We have problems with NLB settings in RDS 2012.

The situation is as follow:

We have 3 terminal servers 2012 (2 session host) and 1 (connection broker)

We have 1 collection and in it are the two session hosts

Each session host has two network cards. two subnets (172.30.Xx and 192.168.x.x) and the session broker with card 1 (192.168.x.x) (Now it's just 1 after doing many tests but before it also had 2 as the host session )

in test situation, when using only one subnet, the collection and the session broker and RoundRobin (without NLB) we have no problems. But it is necessary for us to have 2 subnets and one NLB cluster.

In the subnet 192.168.X.X we configured an NLB cluster ip 192.x.20. The cluster is multicast IGMP. The cluster with some configurations has been unstable but now is not.

Our customers are Thin client. When we are going to connect to the cluster IP (192.168 X.20)

What we see in the logs are all these situations:

1. Sometimes connects to the cluster IP (192.168.x.20). It connects quickly.

2. Sometimes connects to the "real ips" of the host but the 192.168.x.x subnet, NO to the cluster IP. It connects overall good.

3. But sometimes appears in the logs that it connects to another subnet IPS that have nothing to do with the cluster, that is the actual host IP subnet but (172.30.x.x). In this case the system has many delays when connecting.

Even 1 min

Although the thinclient I configure to be connected to 192.168.x.20 (IP of the cluster), it really connects randomly where it wants and how it wants ...

Thank you very much for everything.

RD connection broker needs write permission to the server

Using ws 2012 r2.

I have setup the roles, certificate and SQL Server.

I still get the error: "RD connection broker needs write permission to the server".

I think this website will fix this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/10393.rd-connection-broker-ha-sql-permissions.aspx

I have RDCB01 configured in DNS Manager and Static IP.

I do not know how to check if  "GG_COMP_RDCB" has a Member RDCB01.

I have "MYSITE\GG_COMP_RDCB" configured correctly in SQL Server.

When I try to run HA it still gives the above error.

RemoteApp firewall rules for WMI

I'm in the process of deploying RemoteApp in an environment with a hypervisor firewall in place between all machines in the environment. As such I've been having trouble making heads or tails of firewall documentation for RemoteApp which seems to cater more to users of Windows Firewall in that it omits information about who or what would make use of the port. It just says it needs to be open but not to whom.

I think I have most of it figured out from the following TechNet post.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/16164.which-ports-are-used-by-a-rds-2012-deployment.aspx

The part I'm stuck on is WMI and PowerShell Remoting for administration.

On all the roles the above link says I need:

TCP 5985: WMI and PowerShell Remoting for administration

It also has a line saying:

The RDWeb Service needs WMI static port open, which leads me to believe it needs the WMI RPC ports open? TCP/135 and TCP 49152 - 65535 or a static port set with instructions at this link: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb219447(VS.85).aspx

My question is:

Does TCP/5985 need to be open between all the RDS role servers? Or is that portonly needed for remote administration (remote PS commands, WMI queries) from my admin workstation?

Do I also need the RPC ports open to the RD Web server (TCP/135 + 49152-65535 or static port)? Or is TCP/5985 sufficient? Where is this traffic coming from?

Thanks so much for the help.

Trying to configure Remote Desktop Connection Broker

I have a working website: mysite.com without Remote Desktop in ws 2012 r2.

I have bought and configured a certificate.

I am trying to configure Remote Desktop Connection Broker: RDCB.

Database Connection String:
DRIVER=SQL Server Native Client 11.0;SERVER=WIN-1;Trusted_Connection=Yes;APP=Remote Desktop Services Connection Broker;Database=Testdb

Folder to store database files:
C:\inetpub\wwwroot\App_Data

DNS round robin name (ClientAccessName):
RDSCB01.mysite.com

Confident the first two are correct.

I have made a Host(A) in DNS called RDCB01 under mysite.com and static IP.

I am not sure where to go from here.

I administer a Server 2000, and was connecting fine up to Win 8.1 Win 10 RDP client connects but graphics are badly smudged (text is okay). There is a lot of discussion on this topic over on Spiceworks. I have tried changing various settings in Group Policy relating to RemoteFX but nothing has changed. Any chance of a hotfix or other workaround to address this issue?

Good day,

Situation: Different ISP's, remote VPN connects fine, Ping ALL Workstations, servers, devices with no issues.  Unable to connect to ANY remote desktop connections.
Everything has been worked great until upgrading the Windows 8 update to Windows 8.1.   When trying to connect via RDP, I get a message "An internal error has occurred".  Can still ping any device

Internal Network: Windows 2012 Server Release 1.  All other connections are working fine. Just the machine that was updated to 8.1.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Windows 2012 rdp from Windows 7 failing with "The remote session was disconnected because license store creation failed with access denied"

A Windows 2012 server I can normally reach from my Windows 7 Pro workstation has started giving this error when I try to rdp to it: "The remote session was disconnected because license store creation failed with access denied. Please run remote desktop client with elevated privileges." I have read quite a few forum discussions on this one and most involved windows 8 clients, and can be solved by deleting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing. However I don't have that reg key on my workstation. What is the fix for this issue?

VDI Windows server 2012

Hi,

We are using VDI (Virtual Desktop Interface) feature in windows 2012 server. One of my client who are using windows 8.1 complaining that he couldn't login to VDI server. The error is;

"Remote Desktop Connection: This computer can't verify the identity of the RD gateway "servername" Its not safe to connect to server that cannot be identified. Contact your Network Administrator".

All other clients which are using windows 7 machine are successfully connect to VDI server, but windows 8.1 machine couldn't connect it with the same server.

Please help and provide solution.

"Server either does not have a virtual switch configured or none of the configured virtual switches have an IP address assigned" error driving me nuts!

OK; have been trying to setup a test VM based RDS deployment for a few days now with no luck.

this error mentioned above:

"Server <server name> either does not have a virtual switch configured or none of the configured virtual switches have an IP address assigned" error is driving me nuts!

I have removed and re-added the RD Virtualization Host role numerous times, each time having the "create a virtual switch" checkbox selected, but it did NOT create any virtual switch.

I created the external virtual switch manually and tried to create the desktop collection again, no luck with the same error.

a few questions:

1. you don't assign IP to a switch! you assign IP to Network Interfaces. why does the error puts it like this?! it is technically wrong.(yeah yeah I know all about how you'd assign IP to managed switches in real world to telnet into them and manage them. you know better than me that it is not the case here!)

2.the RDS Virtualization hosts are using their wifi card as the card for the virtual switch. could that be the reason? I even disabled their unplugged wired NIC just to make sure that the wifi is the only available option for the RDS wizard to use for the virtual switch creation; but it didn't use it and it didn't create any virtual switch automatically.

3.if WIFI nic is indeed the reason, is it your suspension or an official documents is there somewhere stating so (that the WIFI NICS on a Virtualization hosts are not supported as the hub for a virtual switch).

4.what are the properties of the virtual switch the RDS requires? does it have to be external? why can't it work even with my manually created external switch?

5.how would I fix it?

P.S: the environment is made up of 2 laptops, having windows 2012 R2 trial installed on them, using their wifi to connect to the out world. no cable is plugged into their wired NIC card.

CRM Modal popup Window on IE11 over RDS remoteApp is losing Focus randomly

$

Hi,
who can help me on this ?

since months I'm facing a problem* with a web application (a CRM) when published as remoteApp
on IE11 on top of 2012 R2.

The problem* :
- when user launches a modal window from within a main IE window/page, the Modal popup
gets hidden / focus is lost although I can see it on my client PC taskbar, nothing happens when I try
to get focus back to it.

-------------------------------------------------------

The CRM :
- runs perfectly on IE11 / win7    PC
- runs perfectly on IE8  / 2008r2 Server (the IIS server itself)

=> though no remote desktop session host role installed there so not sure the latter is a relevant test scenario
- has following hardcoded
<metahttp-equiv="X-UA-Compatible"content="IE=EmulateIE8"/>
=> causes Document Mode to be 5 (Quirks Mode) on my windows 7 / IE11
=> same thing on remoteApp session + added the site to Intranet Zone andEnterprise Mode
XML file so IE 11 is running in Enterprise Mode Emulating IE8
I admit this has made less probable the issue to happen

Note that I did the test in a full RDP session and the issue is as random as in remoteApp.
Tried following without succeeding to get focus on the child window :
- ALT+TAB
- ALT+TAB+ESC
- CTRL+Alt+END  play with the remoteApp's TaskManager minimize/maximize window ...
- Procexp.exe as remoteApp in same TS session then try BringTo Front / maximise / minimise etc
- NirSoft's winexp.exe with the focus options it provides... ... no success...
(that was on a test VM so please I don't break things ..)
- registry keys ForegroundFlashCount and ForegroundLockTimeOut
- disabling language bar (remoteApp's session) that shows on client's taskBar seem to reduce probability of the issue to appear..  but is not a fix

- looked at the app's javascript responsible of popping the app ... but actually it runs ok on PCs ?! so for what good…

RANDOM behavior sometimes OK sometimes KO
Although when IE11 developper tools is launched, the issue happen practically each time I test
wich keep me hoping this is not RDS/remoteApp related

I can see following existing KBs though for (2008 r2) but with similar issues …
The pop-up windows of a RemoteApp program may be hidden in Windows Server 2008 R2

               and in Windows 7

                https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2384602

The pop-up windows are hidden and the TS RemoteApp application stops responding

in Windows Vista, in Windows 7, in Windows Server 2008, and in Windows Server 2008 R2

                https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/983533

I tried to install this KB but it keep saying it is not applicable to this computer
RemoteApp program pop-up window is hidden in Windows

Mayday !

After setting up three items in DNS Manager: RDCB01, RDCB02 and RDCB03 round robin style, a group was created in Lab/Groups/GG_COMP_RDCB.

GG_COMP_RDCB was set as a login in SQL and configured.   In trying to run RDCB HA there was an error similar to:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/10393.rd-connection-broker-ha-sql-permissions.aspx

When fixing the error in GG_COMP_RDCB Properties>Members the RDCB01, RDCB02 and RDCB03 (or RDCB01$) could not be Added.

Could someone shed some light why?

Remote Desktop Printer Problem

Hi All,

At the company I work for, we have a problem that happens on various users and printers, which is why we can not find a permanent solution.

The problem is:

When a user is connected to remote desktop connection to our terminal server or through our remote app, when they sometimes come to print they click print and it does nothing, it does not print or put the print in the job queue. This happens on different users around the building and different printers.

our only solution at the moment is to remove and reinstall the printer for the user, this then allows the user to start printing again.

some times we can have 1-6 users effected at the same time with the same printer.

Has anyone else had the same issue, or know of a solution for this.

Thanks

Ashley

IE11 using up 25% of CPU per user

Hello,

We have a 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services environment that was recently updated from IE9 to IE11 through Windows Update and now user iexplore.exe*32 processes are using up 25% of the CPU per user.  This is causing the servers in the farm to be heavily utilized.  Reporting shows that this was not an issue before the update.  I've researched and found a suggestion making sure that three KB's were installed in the correct order.  I uninstalled them, installed them in the correct order and we've not seen any improvements.

Those KB's were:

  1.     KB3065822
  2.     KB3074886
  3.     KB3075516

Any idea's?

Thanks,

Remote Desktop Gateway not Connecting to client computer (Authentication Successful but no RDP established)

$

I have a new RD Gateway configuration that is failing to open the RDP session. The remote computer is able to connect to the gateway and a successful security audit is logged but the session never starts, giving the error:

Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:

1)Remote access to the server is not enabled

2)The remote computer is turned off

3) The remote computer is not available on the network

The Gateway server is on the internal network with 443 forwarded from the internet, the default web page is visible when connecting to the external address using HTTPS. There are no firewalls between the Gateway and the remote computers so all ports should be available there. Windows firewall is open for Remote desktop on both systems (Gateway and remote).

The authentication is successful for the Gateway box but it never seems to reach the endpoint system, there are no logs of any authentication attempts on the remote computer.

There are no sessions in the Gateway to monitor since it never actually opens RDP.

The traffic just seems to die once it hits the gateway.

Any thoughts?

Windows Server 2012 R2 - RDP Terminal Services Session Broker hangs Event: 2056

$

I have a single Server 2012 R2 running RDS. RD Clients can connect and work. This is a clean install and has been running for about 1 month.

However I have experienced the following error 2 days in a row and found the following in the Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-SessionBroker Logs with event id 2056, which occurs each time just before the service hangs:

The Remote Desktop Connection Broker server could not enumerate the targets for the provider named NULL from the database.

Pooled virtual desktop collection name: NULL
Error: Logon to the database failed.

When this happens ALL remote sessions hang and eventually disconnect. All works again after restarting the server.

The server is in the connection broker list.

Anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

RDP via Hostname Fine, Via IP Slow..

Hello,

On a Dell Server running 2012 R2 within a Domain if I RDP to it via IP address the session will login normal but it is very slow. We have to RDP to the server by IP address in the initial instance which why I can't use FQDN to start with.

If I do however RDP to a 2003 r2 Server in the Domain via IP (which is fine by the way) and then RDP to the 2012 R2 Server using FQNDN it is fine.

Any other servers are fine.

Cheers

Ryan
