Hi all,

I facing a problem about Microsoft Access 32 bit running slow on Remote Desktop Session Host (WS2012 R2). I has been move from WS2003 Terminal Server to WS2012R2 RDSH server. My user use Access 2010 as an front-end. The old server can ran the Access finish within about 40 min. but the new one, WS2012R2, took around 4 Hrs. to finish the same file.

The Access has link tables from other Access File and Oracle DB (via ODBC). The server workload is very light.

Environment:-------------------------------

Server: Windows Server 2012 R2 (VM guest)

Physical: 18 cores x 2 socket

Guest server: 14 cores assigned with 60GB of memory

-----------------------------------------------

Please anyone advice me and thank you in advance

RDS 2012 R2 + Office 365 Shared Activation - UPD's not unloading.

Greetings and welcome to this thread.

We have consequently been experiencing errors with RDS 2012 R2 User Profile Disks / UPD's not detaching after user logoff in brand new Remote Desktop Services 2012 R2 collections.

As an example we have this enviroment:

DCSRV01 - Domain Controller

DCSRV02 – Domain Controller

FILESRV01 – Fileshares and User Profile Disks

RDSGW01 – RD GW

RDSSB01 – Session Broker

RDSSB02 – Session Broker

RDSSH01 – Session Host

RDSSH02 – Session Host

ADFS01 – ADFS

WAP01 – WAP

Only 3rd. Party application installed on the session host is Office 2016 Click-To-Run with shared activation. (GPO for SSO activation etc.)

Consequently User Profile Disks does not detach upon logoff using the newest build of the Click-To-Run Service.

We have tried with multiple builds of Office 2016, and downgrading.

If we disable the C2R service or uninstall Office 2016 C2R completely the UPD’s will detach just fine upon logoff.

We have a bunch of setups like the above where we can produce the issue. However we also have one older setup, with an older version of Office 2016 C2R, that does not seem to produce the issue. However all new setups produce this.

Has anyone experienced issues comparable to this?.

We also have setups with many users running both Office 2010, 2013, 2016 Non-C2r versions on both 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 without any issues at all whether we’re using UPD or Roaming Profiles.

So it seems like there is some issue/bug with the newer versions of Office 365 C2R and User Profile Disks / UPD.

Hope for some well shared knowledge, tips or bugfixes for this :-)

All the best, Jesper Hassing - MCTS SCCM 2012 - MCSA 2012 Server - MCP

Multimedia redirection causes wemb video to freeze.

Multimedia redirection through RDP is great for video playback when browsing the web over RDP, but if the video is a WEBM "gif" like those hosted on gfycat.com or imgur's gifv format, as soon as the multimedia redirection "kicks in", the video freezes. If I scroll, I can see the gif playing under the frozen frame. This happens in any browser. Multimedia redirection works fine for youtube and other video streaming sites. I don't want to turn off multimedia redirection completely because it is very useful for all the videos it DOES work with.

Certificate Change for Remote Web Access and Gateway - Wildcard

Hi,

I have tested Remote Desktop Services with a self signed certificate. For testing the remote gateway over the internet, I have edited the host file from the client test machine so that the domain of my self signed certificate match the public IP address of the remote desktop gateway and remote web access.

Now I want to test in on a production environment. The DNS is working well on that address and when I go to the rd web access I get the certificate error as expected.

So I wanted to change the certificate by the wildcard I have. For that, I have made 2 changes from the server manager of my DC by clicking "Edit Deployment Properties" in theRemote Desktop Service section.

1. In the RD Gateway section, I have changed the server-name by the new one :

2. In the certificates section, for each item (role service), I have clicked "select existing certificate...", and then "Choose a different certificate", and entering the correct password. I also have checked the checkbox that "allow the certificate to be added to the Trusted Root Certification Authorities certificate store on the destination computers"

When I click "apply", I get the following warning message :

"Could not configure the certificate on one or more servers. Ensure that the servers are available on the network and apply the certificate again."

Then when I go back to the Deployment Properties the warning state is still there, but the correct certificate seems to have been applied. If I close and reopen this window the warning disappears, but the correct certificate is also there.

When I go to the Remote Web Access webpage, I still have this certificate error message, and when I check the certificate, I see that the old certificate (which doesn't match the new url) is still there, instead of the new one!

I have a wildcard certificate (.pfx with private key in my case). All my servers are running Windows Server 2016 TP5, and I have the following configuration : see picture :

Note: WinGateway1 and WinGateway2 are in a failover cluster for the Remote Web Access and the Gateway Role. The public IP is NATed to this cluster virtual IP.

Click apps in the RDWEB page does not open the application directly.

I open up my RD WEB page and click on a published apps.  The RDP file is downloaded and I have to doubleclick the RDP to open.

With that said, everytime when I click the apps, a copy of the RDP file is in my download folder.

Is there a way I can just click on the published app in my RD WEB page and the apps is opened on the fly?

UPDs don't detach, users get temporary profiles

$

We just installed a new Server 2012 R2 RDS Farm:

2x Connection Broker Servers in HA mode (configured for Collection Redirection), 4x Session Hosts, 1x File Server dedicated to UPDs, no Gateway Server.

All Servers were updated with Windows Updates and RDS-specific hot-fixes before being put into production.

When the issue happens, some users get a temporary profile. We have to find the Session Host where the UPD is still mounted and detach it in Disk Management, then delete the profile .bak registry entries from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

UPDs are configured to store all user settings on \\FileServer\Share. No excluded folders.

Problem occurs randomly: different days and times, random users

Any ideas what prevents the User Profile Disks from dismounting when the user logs off?

Windows 10 - Delete key & delete/decimal (Numpad) key locks Remote Desktop Session

Hello!

I have had three reported issues in which the delete key AND the delete/decimal key on the numpad will return a user to the lock/authentication screen for Remote Desktop.

Troubleshooting has included:

-Switching the keyboard. Three separate vendors and models, all out of the box with compatible drivers installed.
-Sticky Keys has been disabled.
-Changed each variation of 'Local Resources' in the Remote Desktop Connection Manager for the keyboard including, "Apply
Windows key combinations: On this computer, On the remote computer, and Only when using the full screen".

Any help or comments are appreciated!

Hi,

I'm getting the following error when running this script:

Connecting to the rd connection broker server

Hi,

We are suddenly not able to connect to the rds 2012 connection broker interface which we need to manage our RDS servers. Also Powershell access isn't working. However all users can work. It looks like it's hanging on something but eventviewer doesn't show why.

Reboot server didn't help.

RemoteDesktopServices_RDPCoreTS gives:

RDP_UDPLOSSY: An error was encountered when transitioning from UdpLossyStateSynRecv in response to UdpEventErrorHandshakeTO (error code 0x80040004).

Please advise.

Terminal server upgrade

$

Hello,

I am totally new for terminal server. We are planning to upgrade terminal server from windows server 2008 r2 sp1 to windows server 2012 R2. I have just checked we have license for 100 clients.

In our remote desktop services I could see following features:

(1) Remote Desktop configuration manager

(2) Remote Desktop Gateway Manager

(3) Remote Desktop Licensing Manager

(4) Remote Desktop Services Manager

(5) Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration

(6) Remote Desktop Web Access Configuration

(7) Remote desktops

(8) RemoteApp Manager

Do you have legitimate steps to install above terminal services on windows server 2008 r2 sp1?

I was trying to upgrade windows 2012 r2 on my test environment. When I hit upgrade, it says you have to remove remote service features from previous os(windows server 2008 r2 sp1).

Could we upgrade windows server 2008 r2 sp1 to windows server 2012 r2?

Do you have steps to upgrade windows server 2012 r2 ?

How could I get license version through the upgrade or I have to buy new license for the windows server 2012 r2 upgrade?

How could I make .rdp file to access all clients on campus? How could I give permission in existing rdp file to access all employees in campus?

Thanks for your input.

Thanks

Change redirected folder UNC path issue.

I have a Windows 2012 RDS collection with 1 session broker and 2 hosts.

After updated UNC path in my redirected folders in a group policy, the RDS hosts is still referring to the old path even doing gpupdate /force.

The "user shell folders" and "shell folders" in the HKCU has a lot of entries that contain the old path.

Is there a way to fix?

RDS CAL

Are you required to purchase additional RDS User CALS if a User establishes concurrent RDP sessions on more than one RDP Session Host?

And similarly are you required to purchase additional RDS Device CALS if a Device establishes concurrent RDP sessions on more than one RDP Session Host.

3rd Party Load Balancer with Windows 2012 R2 RDS

We have a small farm of 3 RDS servers and one separate RDCB server using Windows 2012 R2. We have decided not to use the RDCB server to handle to load balancing due to limitations and complexity, but instead work with a 3rd party load balancer(Snapt) that is agentless.

When someone first logs onto an RDS server, session is balanced across the farm appropriately. Things change though when a session becomes disconnected and the user wants to re-logon. At this point the user enters their credentials for the RDS session, the RDP screen goes black and then the logon screen appears again. I believe this is due to the second RDP session hitting a different server, CB realizing an active session exists on a different server, and moving the user to the appropriate server.

I believe the issue lies in our load balancer and not the connection broker but I wanted to see if I could get some feedback on this as my team and I might be missing something entirely.

Thanks,

Joe

Corrupt admin profile issue.

Hi,

I logon to a Windows 2012 server as a domain admin and I am getting this error - "You've been signed in with a temporary profile"

I was reading this link http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadFile/shyjumohan/fix-corrupt-user-profile-temp-profile-in-windows-server-20/ and visit the profilelist and profileguid and remove the key that contains the corrupt profile - still no luck.

Please advise if there is another option I could try.

Thanks.

Create folders in Web Access page for RDSH Sessions and VDIs

Hello all,

I’ve built a RDS 2012 R2 lab with all possible roles and sorted out more or less every problem I had except one.

It looks like a trivial question which makes me think that I missed something obvious but…

I was looking for a way to create folders in the web interface for RDSH Sessions (Not apps) and for the published VDIs.

I’ve found how to do it with remote apps but that’s all.

Can someone give me the trick for the rest?

Thank you for your help
