Hello,
Sorry if this has been asked before. I've tried searching the forums but haven't found what I'm after.
I'm wondering if it's possible to use a DNS resource like a CNAME or A RECORD to specify a RDS Licensing point. For example:
We manage the current RDS Licensing server. We don't manage all the servers that are looking to our RDS Lic box for CALs (decentralized environment), so we can't apply a GPO to them specifying a licensing point.
If our RDS Licensing server and all CALs are set up on a host named "RDS-LIC-01," and we have future plans to decommission that box and move everything to "RDS-LIC-02," could we assign a CNAME or A RECORD to "RDS-LIC-01" with a name of "rdslicserv.domain.net," and tell everyone to point their terminal server instances to that location for licensing? Then, when the time comes, we'd just re-assign the DNS resource to the new "RDS-LIC-02" machine without users in other departments needing to change anything on their end, as the specified licensing point would now resolve to the new host name.
Does anyone know if this type of setup is possible, or would the mismatch between DNS name and NETBIOS name cause issues? (Specifically because hosts would be looking to "rdslicserv.domain.net" for CALs, actually be getting them from "RDS-LIC-01" one day and then "RDS-LIC-02" the next one..)
Please let me know if I can explain more clearly. Thank you for any help!
