Windows Server 2008 R2 remote control failed - Access denied !

Hello everyone,

I know, there are a couple (or more) threads about this issue and even though most of them are marked as "Solved", none contains a real solution. And believe me, I checked them all (as many as I found). There are some about a patch that works for Vista and 2008 but not 2008 R2, there are some about disabling UAC, some about running tsadmin.msc as administrator... but none of these works for me.

I have a RDS 2008R2 environment (set up in NLB). If I want to use the tsadmin.msc for remote control TS sessions on these servers, I get an Access Denied message. If I use the Task Manager, I can access (shadow) the user's session. The servers are all up-to-date (SP1 and everything else), the RDP also. Does anyone know about a real solution to this situation ? Clients are XP SP3, Windows 7 and WES7. The TS session on the servers is forced at 32 bits (GPO - allowed and supported by W2K8 R2). I need this resolution for a specific application. And yes, I know, Windows XP supports only 24  bits on TS, Windows 7 & fam supports 32 bits but not 24 bits.

If I want to use a Windows 2003 server to try the shadow "process" (TS on a server 2003 + tsadmin connecting on the Windows 2008 R2 servers) I get an error 31 and the user session is disconnected.

Session (ID 3) remote control failed
(Error 31 - A device attached to the system is not functioning. )

Do you know of a solution that works for this situation or why this happens ?

Thank you in advanced !

Vlad
