I have some users that are experiencing lag when accessing their document's folders through start -> documents (the document library). After clicking on documents, the window will open and show all of their folders immediately, however after going into a sub folder it will only show about three items, then it can then take anywhere from 3 or 4 seconds to a minute to finish loading the remaining folders in the window. If I open the users folder by navigating to the same path associated with the documents library (i.e. \\servername\dfs\users\username\documents\anyfolder) the folder will load instantly.
It is obvious that the problem only occurs if they are accessing these folders via the documents library. I have tried rebuilding the users profile, and removing all folders in the documents library except for the users documents folder on the DC (i.e. I removed the public documents folder from the library). I also removed all unnecessary permissions from the users documents folder (there was an unknown user in there for some reason), and pushed the new permission set through to all files and folders. There is still a noticeable difference when accessing these folders through the documents library. I haven't noticed the minute long lag since I performed the above work, however it is still taking several seconds to load sub folders in the users documents library. Again, if I navigate directly to the DFS share the sub folders load in under a second.
Now for the configuration (all built on latest VMware)...
2 Server 2008 R2 Terminal Servers in a cluster with RD Gateway
1 Server 2008 R2 DC using DFS for the namespace, not for replication (it makes it easier when I upgrade servers)
Documents redirect to the DFS namespace share on the DC via folder redirection policy
Users are setup with terminal services profiles (no standard roaming profiles, just terminal services roaming profile)
Let me know if anybody has any ideas! As long as it's not more than a 3-4 seconds it's not urgent that I fix it, however I would like it to be under 2 seconds with the beefy server that these are running on. There are absolutely no performance issues on this server. Memory and CPU resources are ready and available at all times. Thanks in advance!
