Supporting remote sites using thin clients in an RDS environment

Hi,

We're trying to deploy a solution using thin clients and Remote Desktop Services on a fully virtualized Windows Server 2012 R2 environment (with multiple RDS host virtual machines for failover/load balancing). Some of the users are supporting the company software on many different remote sites, so they need to be able to run applications via VPNs, like Cisco AnyConnect, Juniper SSL VPN, Checkpoint VPN, preferably using their own credentials. Currently we've worked this out in a way that they used the XP mode feature on Windows 7 Pro machines and they could run 4 different VMs, connected to 4 different sites at the same time and by using application integration this was transparent for them. This is what we would like to do in a remote desktop environment.

The main problem we're facing now is that we can't install the VPN Client software on the terminal servers, because VPN connection from a remote session is not enabled. We tried to set up multiple RDS host servers, one for each kind of VPN and use RemoteApp to publish the applications for the required users, but once the VPN connection is established from the Console of the RDH host, the RemoteApps won't start at all. The only way is to connect directly via Remote Desktop to these servers and run the application from there, but it's not really comfortable for them to be switching between remote desktop sessions from a remote desktop session.

Anyone has any ideas on how to make this happen? Or is this possible/doable at all?

Thanks!
