Can not connect to remote App

We have a RD gateway 2008 R2 and a remote App server 2012 R2. Clients use the web access to launch the remote app that connects them through the gateway to the remote app server. 

Upon connecting they get a "RemoteApp disconnected - your computer can connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer".

I  have noticed that there is an "add in" that is downloaded and run when logging into the remote app site. It shows an icon in the system tray. If I exit that add in then they are able to connect just fine. The name of the Add-in is called"Workspace runtime - connected to remoteApp and desktop connections". 

There are nothing in events logs stating their connection have been rejected or that the client attempted to connect to either the gateway or the remote app server. 

This happens does not happen on all clients. The clients I have seen it happening run windows 7, windows 7 SP1 and windows 8. 

Anything that can be done to fix this, or is there a way I can force the site not to run the "Workspace runtime" application when users sign in?
