Remote Authorization Policy issue with RemoteAPP when working offsite

$

Hello All,

We want to deploy RemoteAPP to some of our traveling laptops to open published apps from the RD Gateway server. When connected to the domain, this works. When we are offsite we get the message below.

I did some research and found some were successful with RemoteAPP working offsite IF they chose the option to "Allow users to connect to any network resource" within the Remote Authorization Policy settings in RD Gateway Manger.

      SO my questions are:

1) What are my options instead of using the RAP option (under  Network Resources tab) to "Allow users to connect to any network resource"? I need RemoteAPP to work but don't want to relax security this much to "ANY" network resource.

2) Under the Network Resources tab in RAP options to "Select an Active Directory Domain Services network resource group" I have been using a group we defined in active directory that included the RD gateway server, but this has prevented RemoteAPP from running (we get the error message above). I looked at Terminal server -gateway event viewer and when it will not work - it complains it cannot connect to the RD gateway server. What can I change to make the AD group option work- if at all possible??

Please let me know at your convenience

thank you,

Brian

Redirecting profile path not working with GPO (migration from 2008 to 2016)

Hello,

recently I've got inherited an Windows Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server. Now that support for Windows Server 2008 R2 ends, i've installed a new Windows Server 2016. Everyhing is working fine except the user profile settings.

On the old server, there was an additional hard drive with drive letter D: which contained the user profiles.

Every new user gets a local profile (as we only use one terminal server) created at d:\profiles\

Now I want this behaviour on the new server too but it seems that Windows Server 2016 behaves different from 2008 RDS. They have both the same GPO applied as they are in the same OU. But the new server keeps creating the user profiles in the default location under c:\users\

Curiously that there is no setting activated in the GPO which let the profile path point to a different location so I thought its a local setting on the old terminal server. Unfortunately the prior admin is no longer in the company nor can I contact him.

Any hints where to find out which causes the server to redirect user profiles to the different drive?

Best regards

Hi,

I have the following problem, when users access Remote Desktop, the following message appears:

"Remote Desktop License Issue

There is a problem with your Remote Desktop license, and your session will be disconnected in 60 minutes, Contact your system administrator to to fix this problem."

We have already performed the call reactivation procedure, excluding the user to log in again. But it was no use.

Thanks if anyone can help!

TSGateway Crash

I've been trying to find an answer to this issue and so far have not found anything that hasn't been done. We run around 20 different RDS Gateways and some of them crash more often than others. All of them are patched via WSUS and are fully up to date with patches. My searches on the issue typically date back to years prior so the KB's listed dated at best along with the patches.

Events reported when crashed happened:

Screen is Black after login on Windows Server 2012r2 Standard

I got a call from the client saying they logged into the server and now it only shows a black screen. I then RDP into it and sure enough, after login there is just a black screen. I searched around and found thread that had a link to a hotfix that will stop this from happening. I applied the fix and restarted and thought all was well until this morning when I got a call that the server was acting weird.

I RDP in again and black screen. I RDP into the VM and then into the main server and still black screen. On top of that 2 windows 7 workstations were getting the black screen after logging in. 1 user had it then after 5 or 10 min the desktop just appeared. The then logged into a workstation at their office to try and RDP into the server and I get this black screen after logging in, 5min later the desktop shows up. Not sure what is going on but it is very frustrating. Also when this happens on the server Nothing can be done besides a hard shutdown which I don't like doing every other week.

Any ideas? Is it somehow related to the workstations also having the same issues???

unable to install remote desktop services

Hello

I am unable to install remote desktop services on the server2012  (not via GUI and not by powershell)

I get the error: "one or several parent features are disabled so curent feature cannot be enabled error 0xc004000d"

But uninstalling of the features is not possible too because I get "an unexpected error occured"

The server is an VM of server2012. It was upgraded from 2008R2 which had the terminalserver and DC role installed. But before upgrading to 2012 the DC roles were transfered, the Server demoted and the terminalserver roles uninstalled. But it seems there are remains from the old installation, because

Get-WindowsFeature | ? {$_.Installed -eq $true -and $_.FeatureType -eq "feature"}

reveals

RSAT-Role-Tools

as installed. but no sub features

and I am unable to install or uninstall the features

RDP Sessions - same pc but different results depending on login user

Hello,

So I am using RDP on a single computer that is connecting to the server, if user A logs in, the desktop icons look good (size is big enough for the user to see) but when he launches a Tax Program the icons in there are tiny.  If user B logs in (same computer being used) the desktop icons are good size - same as user A.  But when she launches the Tax Program her icons are a a perfect size.  They have the exact same rights and permissions.  There is no difference there.

What should I check out next?  Would it be on the local desktop side or the RDP server side?

Thanks!

RemoteApps cannot access \\tsclient\ drives, File Type Associations won't launch RemoteApp

$

Hello!

I have a RemoteApp host established, and RemoteApps work well.  When I associate any off the RemoteApps with a file type, the RemoteApps starts to launch, but I receive this error:

When I try to access \\tsclient\ drives from Remote App, I receive this error:

However, if I RDP directly to the host, I am able to access the \\tsclient\ drives from the applications.  The problems only occur when using applications as RemoteApps.

In the Applications and Service Logs \ Microsoft \ Windows \ RemoteApp and Desktop Connections \ Operatoinal event log, I receive event 1041 - Remote Application (Excel) is luanched on RemoteApp and Desktop Connection (RemoteApp Host Name) but no stored credentials are used for single sign on.  (Reason - RemoteApp and Desktop connection does not exist).

Using RemoteApps works fine for the 20-or-so test users.  They all have the same problems, on any machine, when using \\tsclient\ drives in Remote Apps, and receive the same error when trying to open files that have a file associated with a RemoteApp.

I suspect the two problems (not being able to access \\tsclient drives in RemoteApps, and not being able to open files via file-type-associations in RemoteApps) is related to SSO.

I'd appreciate any thoughts about how to resolves theses.

Thanks!

Scott

RDP Error - Contact Network Administrator

Hi Team,

I am facing the RDP session issues as you can find in my attachments.

In our environment we take RDP to a  Windows Server 2012 R2 (Jump Server) - connected to our environment Via VPN Tunnel or with Public IP.

The Jump server is connected to another 3 Servers in different location (datacenter) via VPN Tunnel. So first we take remote to Jump server and from there we take remote to other 3 Servers in different location.

But right now we are having issues with RDP when we take from Jump Servers to Other 3 servers. I am getting the errors as per the attachment.

Steps Taken:

ON JUMP Server

  1. Check Telnet to other 3 servers for 3389 - Working
  2. Tried to take remote with Others Users - Didn't connect
  3. Updated some windows patches and Restarted the Server.
  4. Even created a new User on 3 servers and tried to take remote from JUMP - Not working.
  5. Tried to take remote to other local servers(Same Jump server environment)  - Working.
  6. Verified VPN Tunnel Connectivity also from firewall level.

ON 3 Remote servers

  1. Server Still working.
  2. They can able to Login with same users from local .

Please help me to resolve this issue .

Thanks in Advance

2019 RDS and Windows 10 Clients Remote App starts and stays minimized

We are testing LABELVIEW 2019 in our environment on a brand new and fully patched 2019 RDS Server.

Two out of three published apps LABEL MATRIX Converter and LABELVIEW Converter open up just fine,

however the main LABELVIEW 2019 App opens minimised and stays minimised. The Win 10 Pro client

has also all the latest updates and is 1809 version.

The same LABELVIEW 2019 APP launches fine on a Remote Desktop.

Thank you!

Windows Server 2019 and RemoteApps - "The number of local display monitors exceeds the limit allowed by the remote computer" error

$

Hello -

I am getting a strange error when I attempt to access an application via RemoteApps. The error is "The number of local display monitors exceeds the limit allowed by the remote computer."

I have 6 monitors. The RemoteApps server has the display limit set to the default of 16. I am running Server 2019 as my desktop and the RemoteApps server is also running Server 2019. For all my Googlefu, I've not been able to find much about this specific error.

First, I'm assuming that the RemoteApps display limit is for all concurrent connections? Is this accurate? If this is the case, it would make sense that my 6 monitors put us over the 16 screen limit, as my co-workers that use this RemoteApps server all have multiple screens.

Second, can the display limit for RemoteApps be increased from 16?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I looking for alternative for Citrix

Hello,

I have in my Company virtual environment in VMware.

We use Citrix to share applications for clients desktop, but I would use only RDS - I know it's easy, but I have now 25 virtual machines on citrix. Update application on 25 RDS virtual machines can was tarrible.

And here is my question:

Can I make base disk with RDS(RemoteApp) and create from it 25 VM's ?

It's should be on WS2019 Datacenter. Microsoft has on this solution? VDI can help me in this? Maybe there is something else that I have not heard of?

I will be very grateful for all the answers.

2016 RDS slower than 2008R2, understanding

$

hi all,

knowledge: last year we migrate some 2008R2 Server to 2016. All new Server has performance problems.

old server: 4CPU, 32GB, 150 and more User, slow wifi network = no performanceproblems, user works fine

new server: With 4CPUs and 20 Users we have 98% CPU workload.! We upgrade to 6CPU, 32-64GB 50User, because more use can't work on one server.

Now we use 2 Server with more CPUs to solve the problem.

is 2016 a step backward :-)

we know the RDS best practise, but I think 2016 with default setting (and without 100 registry settings and file modifys etc.) should be better as 2008RS2 RDS.

RemoteApps - Windows 10 - RDS - NPS Azure MFA

Windows 2016 RDS Server w. NPS server for Azure MFA

User - on laptop  both machines running win10 1903 enterprise OS build 18.362.535 thanks

  • Can connect to RDS server via RDWeb getting MS Authenticator prompt. can open the apps
  • Cannot connect to RDS via RemoteApps. Will get prompted for password over and over. Never completing authentication, and NO MS Authenticator prompt.
  • Can connect to RDS via RemoteApps on different laptop. Does get MS Authenticator prompt, can open the apps.

the RemoteApps are deployed via group policy. I can update the collection.

So the issue is specific to the user profile on that laptop. What settings can I reset, registry settings, anything that is tied to remote apps. Is there a way to reset it? Delete the registry. let "RemoteApp and Desktop Connection" Properties"Update now" repopulate/replace current settings.

RDS Disconnection issues

A few weeks ago we purchased an RDS license for 3 users from a supplier.

I've installed this on the client's server (Server 2019) and I can see the licences are installed when I look in the RDS license manager.

It is also not daily fare for us so I have followed these steps but then on a server 2019. It's for Server 2016 but the screens are exactly the same as server 2019. https://www.slashadmin.co.uk/how-to-setup-a-single-server-rds-deployment-using-server-2016/

Now there are two problems:

I have created a security group of which a number of users are members who may be assigned a license but somehow the administrator also gets a license and I want to prevent that. How can that be secured?

The second and biggest problem is that the users are now being targeted on the server with every mouse click they make. Have received the following screenshots from the customer: They may give some extra information regarding the problem.

Can you help/advise how to permanently solve this problem and thus create a workable situation?

RDS 2019 Remote Desktop Services - HA setup - Published Name takes me to the Connection Broker hosts desktop.

Hi,

I did setup a full RDS environment with HA and using the farm name and/or published name takes me to the Connection broker cluster. Instead of logging me into a Session Host it logs me into a Connection Broker.

Is this the correct behavior? Shouldn't I get RDP session on a Session Host?
What could I have missed?

All mi hosts are Windows 2019 except for my Session Hosts. Could this be the issue?

Could this have anything to do with the License Servers activation during trial period?

I'm lost as I don't know what could I have done wrong or if this is the right behavior.

Thanks,
Eu

How to change password in RDP session

$

In my situation all RDP clients are remote over the internet. their passwords expire every 60 days. How can the user change their password before it expires? CTRL ALT DEL will not work because it takes you to a password change on your local machine. Note the users have no access to a desktop only a single application is forced to run through the user profile.
