Hi,

Need your help to understand browse button functionality under RDS environment for different users.

I have customer who has same RDS profile setup for all users, but when ever browse function used from a particular application to attach documents :

- For some users, it keeps in memory last location used and open that location with last few attachments done.

- For some user it shows blank list and user have to re-direct to original location to make attachment.

On user profile below configuration done :

- Default save location of documents in application.

- Task Bar -> Properties > this will open Taskbar and Navigation properties window -> Jump Lists tab -> check/ uncheck "Store and display recently opened items in Jump Lists".

Please share your valuable thoughts on above.

Warm regards

Unable to install Fonts

Recently we've had a vendor update one of their applications. With this application there are 10 fonts that need to be installed (are not being installed when the application is installed). The result of this is incorrect forms being created or documents with nasty symbols all over the place.

I'm posting this here in the RDS forums since these are the servers where I first noticed the issue. Attempting to open\install them on other 2016 servers has been hit or miss.

Occasionally when I first log into one of the Session Hosts I am able to open the first font. Subsequent attempts to open the font result in an "invalid font" error. I get the error that the format or font is invalid when I try to open it, right-click and install it, or drop it into the Fonts folder directly.

I know the fonts are fine since I can open them on a Windows 10 machine, and most Server 2016 machines. In the few cases where I can't open it on the other servers I'm still able to install them.

I expect this to be a pretty niche issue, but I would love some feedback or ideas on troubleshooting. There is nothing in the event logs nor do I have any idea about how to track a failed font installation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Migrate some CALs to new RDS License Server

We are building a new 2019 License Server. We have an existing 2016 License Server. I am wondering if we can migrate half of the CALs from the existing License server to the new one and then just upgrade those. If so, how can we do this? We want to do this only during a transition period. We will migrate and upgrade the rest when we have confirmed everything is working with the new server.

Remote Desktop Services 2019 - domain users work; local users get a warning about disconnect in 60 minutes

We just built a new Windows Server 2019 server running Remote Desktop Services 2019, using the Quick Start install.  It's a single server so everything is on that one server including the Licensing Server.  Domain Users can connect without issues, but local users that connect remotely get an error "Remote Desktop License Issue" "There is a problem with your Remote Desktop license, and your session will be disconnected in 60 minutes".  The local user does indeed get disconnected in 60 minutes and has to reconnect.  What's wrong?

NOTE: I noticed in the Remote Desktop Licensing Diagnoser that the Remote Desktop Host Server version is Windows Server 2016 for some reason. It should be 2019.

Multiple profile folders against single user on RDS server

I've just had a look at the remote desktop session on my 2012R2 RDS server, users folder being populated with multiple profiles created under the same user with user.000 and etc. I've provided an attachment as to how this looks at the moment. Is there any way to fix this issue where user profiles are not created multiple times for a single user?

Sessions are suddenly redirected to one session host

Hi,

I'm experiencing problems with my RDS setup for a week now. All servers run Windows Server 2016 standard. The setup is as followes;

23x session host server
1x RD session broker
1x RD licensing
1x RD web access

I've created a DNS forward lookup zone for RDS.MYDOMAIN.COM and added A-records for all the session hosts. Clients connect to this address. There a 5 more collections active on the broker. These collections contain a few session hosts each. No problems here.

The servers ran smoothly for the last year now. Sinds last week suddenly all session are redirected to one random session host about every morning.

All session hosts are rebooted every night and after that the broker gets a reboot. When the problem occurs, a reboot fixes it for some time. But the issue comes back. Session host 22 and 23 were added to the collection 3 days before the problems started to occur.

Any help is more than welcome!

Change gateway port but keep 443 for RD Web Access

Hello,

I want to know if it's possible to have this infrastructure for RDS Computer-Based Deployment :

  • RD Connection Broker and RD Web Access and RD Gateway on same server
  • Using port 443 for RD Web Acces
  • Using port 444 for RD Gateway, OR (if it's possible) keep port 443 for Gateway
  • RDVH on a separated server

I'm working with Windows Server 2016 for the CB and Hyper-V Server 2019 for the RDVH.

Thank's in advance ! :)

Remote Desktop Permissions

Greetings to all,

Is it possible on Server 2016 to allow a user to RDP onto a server but then only allow that user permission to RDP to a different server on a different Subnet?

It's a hyper-v, running server 2016, 2 NICs connecting to subnet A and Subnet B.

The user remotes onto the server from Subnet A and then wants to remote to a machine on Subnet B. I'd like to restrict the users permissions to do ONLY (or as little as possible) this.

Thanks in advance.

RDS 2016 - UWP, iOS, Android and Mac OS X Microsoft Remote Desktop Manager cannot connect to URL

$

About two weeks ago, the UWP, iOS, Mac OS and Android versions of Microsoft Remote Desktop Manager all stopped working for our RDS environment externally; previously, users were able to use this application externally and internally without fault.  If the users access our RDWeb/Pages/en-US/default.aspx and use classic MSTSC to open RemoteApps then this works externally.

When plumbing in the correct feed details to the apps we get (iOS, Mac OS) 'no workspace is associated with this URL site'.

We are using Windows Server Datacenter 2016 across the board with 2 servers acting as Gateways, Licensing, Broker and Web Access with a further 6 acting as session hosts.  All have been updated including the most recent crypto hotfix (approximately when the whole thing stopped working).

The route external users take would be:

External DNS entry - ADFSWAP - Gateway - Broker - Session Host

The following error can be found in the logs on our gateway servers:

RDP client cannot connect to RDS CB / GW - RDWeb works

Hi all,

Today i decided to try Microsoft RDS on server 2019. my normal user can get the session based desktop via https://RDSCB/RDWeb but if i try to open RDP client and point to RDSCB.Domain.Lan then i get'The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login'

Now i have not added the security group "DOMAIN\RDS Users" to any local groups on the RDS servers. not sure if thats required or not.

Hoping someone can tell me if i should be able to just open RDP client and connect or if thats not possible. not sure what could be wrong.

Followed this guide, although i have 2 servers https://www.slashadmin.co.uk/how-to-setup-a-single-server-rds-deployment-using-server-2016/

Set mouse pointer problem with multipe screens

We use Window Server 2012 R2 Version 6.3 (Build 9600).To access our application we use Web Access for remote desktop.

In our application we set the mouse pointer over a command via "Cursor.Position". It works well when the local pc have only one screen. It works also well when the local pc have two screens in the configuration [1|2]. If the configuration of the screens on the local pc is [2|1] it set the mouse pointer to the right border of the screen.

It works also well in each screen configuration when we run our application in Win7, Win8 or Win10.

We have not found any way to detect the error case and no way to solve it.

I have prepared a small test program. With this program I can reproduce the problem.

Any idea how we can solve this problem?

Best regards.

ID 158 Warning The disk x has the same identifiers as one or more disk connected to the system

Hello,

I am currently setting up the Terminal Server collection (session host) testing environment, the collection included 3 session hosts(with load balance), 6 users, and the user profiles are located on a file server. All servers OS are the Windows Server 2016 Std eval.
Recently I found that the "The disk x has the same identifiers as one or more disk connected to the system. Go to Microsoft's Support website (http://support.microsoft.com) and search for KB82983588 to resolve the issue." appeared in the system log of the session host. It happened on the hosts and users randomly. I checked the KB82983588 and I think it's not the multiple paths issue since we only have one physical hard drive for storing the user profile. For the VHDs, the user profile is created by the terminal server services, not by copy and paste.
So I have no idea how to find out the root cause of this issue.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

RDS GPO to remove tiles and start menu items

$

I have been trying to find information on how to set up GPOs to remove all tiles and start menu items from our Server 2019 systems when remoted into. We are looking to have shortcuts on the desktop for any/all access on these particular servers. Any assistance is greatly appreciated, thank you!

UPDATE:

Let me add this as it seems I am receiving many replies surrounding Windows 10. We have a mix of external Windows desktop OS versions connecting into a Windows 2019 server via RDP. From there they are then remoting into their work desktops. We want to ensure that when they are remoted into the server we have locked down the server to only allow them the ability to remote into their workstation, having a shortcut on the server desktop for quick access. We want to eliminate all tiles and start menu items on the server, along with the search feature if possible.

Thank you for all your assistance and replies so far!

Server 2019 Remote Desktop Licensing mode is not configured?

I have server 2019 standard and installed the RD licensing manager and my User CALs.  In License Manager  it shows my licensed CALs look fine.     I am getting a warning message about my Remote Desktop licensing mode is not configured.  It mentions using the RD connection broker server to specify the remote desktop mode.  I'm not sure what they mean by this?

RemoteApp issues with mstsc.exe on Windows 10 1903, 1809, 1803, 1709

$

Our RDS environment is running in Azure on Server 2016 managed by our MSP.

We are having client-side issues with RemoteApps where one or more windows in our RemoteApp session will cease to refresh the window contents or to accept keyboard input.  The endpoint's keyboard works fine.

The applications are running just fine on the RDS as you can see if you shadow the user's session.  However, the user does not see their applications doing anything, so to them their applications have hung.  The user CAN open taskmgr.exe by using ctrl-alt-end sometimes to kill individual apps then relaunch them, but sometimes one or more windows does the same thing again.

A WORKAROUND is to roll back to Windows 10 1703's mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll, but that's not a solution... JUST A WORKAROUND.  As we know, old versions don't get patched for security updates & other bug fixes.

We need the attention of Microsoft engineers responsible for mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll to fix it to remove the issues introduced since 1703's release.

Please help!
