Add Virtual Desktop to existing VDI Collection

Windows Server 2019 Remote Desktop Services VDI Hyper-V Collection.

I wanted to add 20 VDI Desktops from the Create Virtual Desktop Collection wizard. (VDIW0 to VDIW19). It only created 12 as I ran out of DHCP addresses during their creation.
I now want to add the missing 8 but the numbering sequence continues from a higher number. The next one should be VDIW13

How do I "Add Virtual Desktop" from within Server Manager and keep my numbering. Each time I try the numbering goes up by 8 (for the extra 8 I wanted to add)

Blurry App

Hi,

I had fixed a blurry app by setting the compatibility "high dpi" to "Application".

Was OK for at least two users (admin and a regular user). So far so good.

After enabling the RDSH role and restarting the server, the fix doesn't work anymore.

I checked the corresponding key is still there

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers

REG_SZ : <path to myApp>

Value : ~HIGHDPIAWARE

Any hint ?

rdweb authentication error 0x607

Hi,

I deployed a RDS 2012r2 with a self-singed certificate and everything worked until I changed the certificate with a third party cert.
I can still login using RDP from a client through RDS Gateway and broker .. is working, but when I try to log on through RDWeb I get the famous "authentication error 0x607" error.
Setting/changing the collection security to low ... is not working for me.I can't imaging that recreating the collection is the only solution to this.

Thank You,
Best Regards,

Terminal Server works but RDMS is Stopped

Hello,

We have encountered an issue that quite doesnt make sense.

Our Terminal Server has been complaining that the Remote Desktop Connection Broker (Tssdis) Remote Desktop Management (RDMS) and RemoteApp and Desktop Connection Management (TScPubRPC) have stopped, as shown in the pictures attached.

But the problem/good thing is that our remote desktop users have been able to login without any issues.

I have noticed that the local Remote Service (from System - Remote Desktop Settings) it's greyed out, but I still can access the server without a problem. The picture showing this is attached as well.

I'm afraid of starting the RDMS service as it might make matters worse, and I'm not physically close to the server.

Do you guys have any recommendations on what to look for?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

RD Gateway server could not create tunnel.

The user "domain\user", on client computer "193.xxx.xxx.xxx", was not authorized to connect to the RD Gateway server because a tunnel could not be created. The authentication method attempted: "NTLM" and connection protocol"HTTP". The following error occurred: "2147965433".

Any ideas?

  • Clean install,
  • godaddy cert.
  • Windows 2012 R2 Standard
  • 1 Broker, 1 Gateway, 1 Host on the same server.
  • Client uses windows 10

When connecting via RDWEB, the login prompt is displayed. When logging in after clicking on the rdp file the mstsc connection window freezes for a brief second, then the pop up below appears: (google translated)

Your computer can not connect to the remote computer because the server Remote Desktop Gateway expected a different authentication method than the one used.

1 CAP, 1 RAP. Policy set to allow Domain Users, user is member of Domain User and Admins.

Also saw the following Warning:

RDPClient_SSL: An error was encountered when transitioning from TsSslStateDisconnected to TsSslStateDisconnected in response to 25 (error code 0x8000FFFF).

VDI RDS for MAC through gateway with 2 Factor Authentication RSA

$

Hi Guys,

Hoping someone has set this up and has some ideas for me.

I have setup VDI Gateway using RSA web agent for 2FA. This is all working without a problem. User logon to RSA portal, authenticate, then are passed through to VDI RDweb portal. Once they authenticate on the rdweb portal they are can then download the RDP file and connect to their VDI Session.

With a MAC I can get to downloading the RDP file, but the Microsoft RDP client for MAC incorrectly reads the file, and ends up just trying to connect to the host name on port 3389.

So what I am hoping is someone has a method of connecting a MAC computer using a VDI gateway and 2FA, without requiring a client based VPN. Let me know if you have an option?

I can see an option to configure a gateway on the Microsoft RDP client. Unfortunately as 2FA has not been completed the client cannot connect.

Thanks for your time?

Long delay to launch first published application in RDS environment

Good Day,

We have an RDS deployment with the RD Web Access and RD Gateway roles on a single server in the DMZ and two RDS Session Hosts on the internal LAN.

Once we sign into the RD Web Access portal and click a published application (Word for example) it takes on average 26 seconds to open. Subsequent applications within the same session opens immediately.

What can we check/tweak to reduce this initial logon time?

Hi,

We are planning to let end users to make use RD Gateway for remote access.

Currently, we are running RD Gateway on Windows 2008 Server.  We plan to purchase 100 CAL.

Is it possible for us to find out the System Requirements for the server required ?  In the mean time, there is 2vCPU and 8GB RAM assigned to it.

Thanks

User Permissions on UPD missing

MSFT Team, One of my client company has 2200 terminal(RDS) users hosted on Windows 2012R2  and using Netapp for UPD storage. All of sudden nearly 1000+ users are getting temp profiles, after extensive troubleshooting found the users lost their access/permissions on their UPD hence logging as a temp. After giving the user with full access on their UPD wohaa..! no more temp profiles. We are in the lost of finding the root cause. Even after checking all logs couldn't move in the correct direction. Hence posting a query here.

Microsoft Edge on 2008 R2

Hi,

I'm trying to give my 2008 R2 RDS Farm one last bit of love whilst I prepare its 2019 replacement.  I've installed Edge v80.x however, I'm unable to use the browser over RDP.  Logging in to the local console of the server is fine.  But over RDP, all browsing results in 'This page is having a problem'.

There are no GPO's applied to this server (and I'm seeing the same behavior across multiple 2008 R2 servers).

Anyone else come across this?

Server standard 2019 RDS ACM / ACT issue

$

I have an issue where I have software that i cannot get to stop requesting administrative UAC access to run for normal users connecting via RDS.

Microsoft official download locations for the ACT seem to have been taken down, however I have obtained a copy from CNET.

I cannot however create ACT database as I am not given the option of specifying credentials for the SQL connection.

I am also not even sure if I should be using it on server 2019. The software is Sage Wage easy. I have tried the standard route of giving relevant users / security groups full control access to said software executable locations / subfolders, no dice and I do not want to go down the road of giving normal users admin rights.

Can anyone advise?

Smart card RDP logon weird behavior

$

Hi!

I use third party smart cards for logging into RDP server. There are many RDP servers in one connection broker. RDP server is in different forest, not trusted.

Sometimes something very weird happens - at logon time, wrong, certificate of another user is sent to domain controller for authentication. I can see it in DC event log and also from network capture (KRB5/AS-REQ). When I log on from my workstation, I see my certificate (and enter my pin), but RDP server in farm forwards wrong user certificate.

I don't know how is it possible, but maybe someone can give me any hint, how to troubleshoot this behavior?

Thanks,

RDS - High Availability Error - Could not create the database MASTER. High Availability

Good Day,

I am sitting with an issue at the moment, I have tried now for the third time to configure an RDS solution, with the same result or should I say stop point. I want to configure the RD Connection Broker, RD Licence Server, RD Gateway and RD Web access through a single server.

I have managed to configure this on a single server in two other domains without much pain.

Server: Microsoft Server 2019

SQL Express: 2017

SSMS: v18

I really need assistance with this and help would be appreciated, I have read through the other issues regarding this with no avail, I know that this is a simple issue but cannot pin point it.

Please help :(

""Could not create the database 'Master', Please check that the broker server has access to the SQL Server, the path for - DatabaseFilePath parameter exsists and contains the SQL Server database......"

RD Web without authentication prompt

Hi,

I've a RD Web configured on my new Server 2019.

This is my situation: I've 50 users pre-configured on my server and enabled to connect via RDWeb (all RDS CALs are active).

My request: through a specific web app a visitor clicks on "start an RDP session". Now the web app select one pre-configured user and makes the authentication automatically without asking username and password to the visitor but setting these parameters by it self.

Is it possible to set a connection parameter to specify username and password to use for RDWeb connection?

Is there another method to achieve this goal?

Thank you.

Dell WYSE thinos to Launch RDS RemoteApp

$

Hi Technet

Hoping someone can help me out here as no suggestions in other forums have helped and I've not been able to reach out to Dell direct.

We have a Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services environment with two VMs forming the farm:

VM01 - RD Connection Broker, RD Licencing, RD Web Access, RD Session Host

VM02 - RD Session Host

SSO is configured and we deploy a number of RemoteApps to devices within our Windows Domain and all works perfectly and users can launch RemoteApps from the Start Menu as if they were a local app.

We are looking to be able to launch an individual RemoteApp on a Dell WYSE 3040 running WYSE Thinos 8.6 essentially in a Kiosk type mode. I was just wondering if anyone anywhere has managed to launch an individual RemoteApp on a device running WYSE Thinos?

When configuring the WYSE 3040, I specify Microsoft as my Broker type and specify my connection Broker (hostname or ip address), but get "RD Broker sign-on failed"

If I then specify none as the Broker type instead and configure an RDP session, I can successfully connect and launch into a full remote desktop, so I know the network and credentials are ok. I just do not want a full desktop, I only want to launch individual RemoteApps.

Someone mentioned to me that I need to add the SSL certificate onto the WYSE. I have tried this, but still get the same. Someone then mentioned that I need the intermediate or root certificate. Not sure if anyone can confirm or deny?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Do I need a RD CAL License?

I have an Azure Windows VM, running Windows Server 2016 DataCenter. I followed the steps here by @braddupuis on how to allow more than 2 concurrent RD users on my server. link: <edit: still unable to post links but thread title isEasiest way to enable more than 2 concurrent RDP sessions on Windows Server 2016>

the step worked and I now have 3 concurrent users, but I have a couple of questions on this:

1.  does this need additional license? There is no licensing manager installed on the VM, the licensing diagnostic shows there is no licensing server setup.

2.as per the same thread, there is a 120 day trial period. Where can I see this and what happens after 120 days?

2.1 will all of the users not be able to login or will it revert back to just 2 concurrent users?

Thank you in advance for any response.

Easiest way to enable more than 2 concurrent RDP sessions on Windows Server 2016

Hello everyone,

I am trying to figure out the easiest way to allow more than 2 RDP sessions at a time on my Windows 2016 Server Standard. I have tried using the google to help, but there are so many suggestions and 90% of them result in the original poster disappearing so I don't know the best way to accomplish this. I don't need anything extravagant setup, I just need more than 2 people to be able to rdp into the server at the same time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Broker on Server 2019, domain (sadly) ending in .local

RDS Farm setup (PoC):

Server1=Broker

Server2=GW/Web

Server3=Session Host

Single SSL 443 port opened in external firewall (pointing to GW/Web server)

So with wildcard certificate I was getting certificate mismatch error

Used Set-RDPublishedName.ps1

I do have a DNS A record on the internal network pointing to the private IP address of my broker - RemoteResources.domain.com

Connecting to Web Access, download the .rdp file & then I get an error that client cannot connect to RemoteResources.domain.com

[Window Title]
Remote Desktop Connection

[Content]
Remote Desktop can’t connect to the remote computer "RemoteResources.domain.com" for one of these reasons:

1) Your user account is not listed in the RD Gateway’s permission list
2) You might have specified the remote computer in NetBIOS format (for example, computer1), but the RD Gateway is expecting an FQDN or IP address format (for example, computer1.fabrikam.com or 157.60.0.1).

Contact your network administrator for assistance.
