Terminal Server works but RDMS is Stopped

Hello,

We have encountered an issue that quite doesnt make sense.

Our Terminal Server has been complaining that the Remote Desktop Connection Broker (Tssdis) Remote Desktop Management (RDMS) and RemoteApp and Desktop Connection Management (TScPubRPC) have stopped, as shown in the pictures attached.

But the problem/good thing is that our remote desktop users have been able to login without any issues.

I have noticed that the local Remote Service (from System - Remote Desktop Settings) it's greyed out, but I still can access the server without a problem. The picture showing this is attached as well.

I'm afraid of starting the RDMS service as it might make matters worse, and I'm not physically close to the server.

Do you guys have any recommendations on what to look for?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Your computer can't connect to the Remote Desktop Gateway server

I'm experiencing weird failure when trying to connect the remote gateway server.

The server is 2016 version. And all the other clients have no issue. But the clients from one company are weird. If the clients connected to their company network through wifi, there is no problem. But if the clients connected to their company network through wired ethernet, then "Your computer can't connect to the Remote Desktop Gateway server. Contact your network administrator for assistance" pops up. I tried some methods which solved other guys' issue. But not work for me.

I checked the events on the server. The wired login attempts leads to event 4625 and reports a 0xC000035B error. I think their company network may have problem but I should be able to fix it on my server. But I don't know how.

Can anybody help me out?

RD Web without authentication prompt

Hi,

I've a RD Web configured on my new Server 2019.

This is my situation: I've 50 users pre-configured on my server and enabled to connect via RDWeb (all RDS CALs are active).

My request: through a specific web app a visitor clicks on "start an RDP session". Now the web app select one pre-configured user and makes the authentication automatically without asking username and password to the visitor but setting these parameters by it self.

Is it possible to set a connection parameter to specify username and password to use for RDWeb connection?

Is there another method to achieve this goal?

Thank you.

Create Collection Stops after Nth desktop

I am testing the creation of a collection of Virtual Desktops using Server 2012 and Win 10. They create just fine until the 11th desktop and then I get an error:

RD Connection Broker could not create the computer account object in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). Ensure that the RD Connection Broker computer account has permissions to create computer accounts in the organizational unit (OU), the RD Connection Broker can contact AD DS, and a duplicate computer account object does not exist in a different OU

I am only trying to prove the functionality but it looks like I am hitting some sort of limit of ten Virtual Desktops?

Slow RemoteApp performance on VPN - Windows 10 to Server 2012 R2

Recently we have been seeing screen refresh issues on our RDS environment when using windows 10 and VPN.

The way that we use it is our RDWeb publishes MSTSC icons that then point to another server. We also have a published remote desktop connection manager.

There are 2 Connection Brokers, 2 Web Servers and 14 core session host servers all using Server 2012 R2. All hosted on Hyper-v. Each of the session host servers has a 3 core 64GB memory setup with 60 to 80 users on each. We also experience the same issue when we only have 1 user on a session host. Also the issue persists late at night when there are only a handful of users connected.

The remote desktop connection manager looks awful and trying to scroll down a list of servers is very laggy.

The client machine is using Windows 10 Enterprise 1809. This issue has only appeared in the last 2 months. Where we had more users move to Windows 10 from Windows 7. The user foot print has not really changed much either.

Has anyone seen this issue?

We are looking at limiting the session hosts to just use TCP as the connection protocol.

Any help will be much appreciated.

How to find RDS "farm Name "

Hi

I am getting bellow error message while accessing my RDS server. Please help me to find out "Farm name

[Window Title]
Remote Desktop Connection

[Content]
Remote Desktop Connection cannot connect to the remote computer.

The remote computer Jet-ABC123.ABC.asp that you are trying to connect to is redirecting you to another remote computer named Jet-ABC124.ABC.asp. Remote Desktop Connection cannot verify that the computers belong to the same RD Session Host server farm. You must use the farm name, not the computer name, when you connect to an RD Session Host server farm.

If you are using an RDP connection provided to you by your
administrator, contact your administrator for assistance.

If you want to connect to a specific farm member to administer it, type "mstsc.exe /admin" at a command prompt.

Windows Server 2019 Webcam redirection failing

Hi everyone,

I have a 2019 Server farm that is having issues with the new webcam redirection feature.

When a webcam client connects, I see the webcam in device manager under "Remote Desktop Camera devices", but when I attempt to use the webcam nothing shows but a blank screen, or in some instances I get a privacy error (privacy has been set to allow all apps in Privacy->App Permissions->Camera on both the client and the server).

On the server I looked in Event Log viewer under "RemoteDesktopService-RdpCoreTS" and saw Event 132:

"A channel RDCamera_Device_0 has been connected between the server and the client using transport tunnel: 0."

Quickly followed by Event 148:

"Channel RDCamera_Device_0 has been closed between the server and the client on transport tunnel: 0."

I'm not sure how to debug this from here. Any help would be appreciated.

I've experienced this with Windows 10 LTSC 2019 and newer, on a Microsoft Surface 2 Pro, and other clients with logitech webcams.

Add Virtual Desktop to existing VDI Collection

Windows Server 2019 Remote Desktop Services VDI Hyper-V Collection.

I wanted to add 20 VDI Desktops from the Create Virtual Desktop Collection wizard. (VDIW0 to VDIW19). It only created 12 as I ran out of DHCP addresses during their creation.
I now want to add the missing 8 but the numbering sequence continues from a higher number. The next one should be VDIW13

How do I "Add Virtual Desktop" from within Server Manager and keep my numbering. Each time I try the numbering goes up by 8 (for the extra 8 I wanted to add)

Do I need a RD CAL License?

I have an Azure Windows VM, running Windows Server 2016 DataCenter. I followed the steps here by @braddupuis on how to allow more than 2 concurrent RD users on my server. link: <edit: still unable to post links but thread title isEasiest way to enable more than 2 concurrent RDP sessions on Windows Server 2016>

the step worked and I now have 3 concurrent users, but I have a couple of questions on this:

1.  does this need additional license? There is no licensing manager installed on the VM, the licensing diagnostic shows there is no licensing server setup.

2.as per the same thread, there is a 120 day trial period. Where can I see this and what happens after 120 days?

2.1 will all of the users not be able to login or will it revert back to just 2 concurrent users?

Thank you in advance for any response.

Blurry App

Hi,

I had fixed a blurry app by setting the compatibility "high dpi" to "Application".

Was OK for at least two users (admin and a regular user). So far so good.

After enabling the RDSH role and restarting the server, the fix doesn't work anymore.

I checked the corresponding key is still there

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers

REG_SZ : <path to myApp>

Value : ~HIGHDPIAWARE

Any hint ?

[IOS] Is it possible to change the Touch settings from "Mouse Cursor" to "Touch" in an RDP Uri scheme ?

Hi ,

I m currently working on an Application that requires me to open RDP Client an then switch its Input Mode to Touch.

Since the default is apparently the Mouse Cursor mode and the URI Scheme documentation seems to not include that particular setting, i was asking myself if someone here might be able to help me out.

Also, is there a way to import plists to the RDP App on IOS ?
I tried :

- Opening a plist file with the rdp app but it didnt work out

- The Sandbox environment from  the IOS System seems to not allow communication between apps except Keychains and URL Schemes.

Remote Desktop ThinClient Factorytalk

Hi

So i have an issue with my Windows server 2012R2 terminal server. Basically i have Thin clients that are deployed using remote desktop deployment. The issue is regarding the display of the screen, the hardware for the clients support 1920x1080 and my application is also 1920x1080. However, when the application gets pushed out to my clients the display is either very grainy or blurry and there are horizontal lines which show a interlaced video display. Is there a configuration for remote desktop that could be affecting my display? The application is a factorytalk graphic application which is used to show industrial processes.

Any suggestions would help.

Thanks

How would I go back fixing the below. The server is on 2019 but its showing 2016 for some reason.

The Remote Desktop Session Host server is in Per User licensing mode and No Redirector Mode, but license serve does not have any installed licenses with the following attributes:.

Product version: Windows Server 2016
Licensing mode: Per User
License type: RDS CALs

RDS User CAL 2016 - Does it expire?

Was checking online to see if RDS User Cal for Win2016 will expire.

Based on my research, RDS User CAL on Win2008 will expire: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0d779acf-e990-477c-9923-7c3ecdd0768b/do-windows-server-2012-standard-rds-user-cals-expire?forum=winserverTS. Is this still valid for Windows 2016's RDS User CAL?

RDG 2019 Event 312 but no connection to internal host

$

Hi,

SITUATION

Users connect to their own Virtualised Desktop via thinclient. so all Desktops are already RD enabled
1 RDG 2019 with 3rd party SSL cert and CAP RAP configured
Corp Net firewall configured for 443 and 3391 to NAT in

PROBLEM

When connection reotely using RDP with the FQDN of the RDG we do get asked for credentials but then nothing happens

ACTION TAKEN

in the evenvwr we see:

"The user user@domain, on client computer "remoteIP:2436", has initiated an outbound connection. This connection may not be authenticated yet." so the firewall en RDG are setup ok and RDG is receiving my connection

I took control of the RDG via teamvewer and tried an RDP to an internal host, so the RDG is allowed to connect to internal hosts

QUESTION

the evenlog does not show any other RDS related messages in the TS gateway log. Where can I look up what else is happening with my connection from remote?
