Terminal farm and RemoteApp

$

Hi.

If I will deploy the same application at two different RDSH servers, and publish it as RemoteApp in each server. Assuming that - can I connect to that application with one *.rdp file and further be balanced with RD connection broker?

May RD broker balance RemoteApp requests for the same application on different servers anyhow?

Server 2003: Remote Control Failed / Error 7054 - The system has reached its licensed logon limit

Yep, yet another person getting this error. This was a 2000 Server that was upgraded to 2003 R2 Enterprise. Worked fine as a 2000 Server and I can log people in all day long just can't remote anyone. Verified the licensing, even removed and re-added Terminal Services. Also removed it and rejoined the domain. Changed the licensing for the OS from Server to Per User or Device.  I can remote users on other servers, just not this one...

join terminal session greyed out

Hi,

I have Terminal Servers and Domain Controller. Few years ago i had Terminal Session Broker on one of TS. Then I disconnected all servers from session broker but I can not uncheck the box "Join Terminal Session" on session broker. In event log i'm getting error every minute that server can't find Session Broker. The Session Broker role is unistalled. In Domain controller in group policy manager i set "Policies,Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Terminal Services, Terminal Server, TS Session Broker" all fileds to "not set". Then i tried to do the same in local group policy editor. But in terminal services settings on TS the fileld "join terminal session broker" is still checked and greyed out. Where else I can disable it?

Thank You.

printing locally from remote desktop not working

i have a client who recently upgraded his computers from xp to win7.  he has a multi store quickbooks pos setup where he has to log in to a remote desktop connection onto a server in another store.  he used to just login and run his reports and then print them locally.  since the upgrade, he has not been able to do this.  the work around i found was to keep the xp laptop just for printing reports.  well, now he is separating from the other store and going out on his own.  he needs to run some reports and save them to the local machine in order to bring the databases to his store.  first, i need to know how to make the win 7 computer print the reports locally, so that he can run them (the xp laptop crashed).  second, i need to know how to copy the files onto his local computer (in server 2008 i can drag and drop them, not in 2003).

the win 7 is 64 bit, the server 2003 is 32.  i tried installing the print drivers locally onto the server, but it's the wrong architecture.  i also tried installing the 32 bit drivers onto the win 7 machine, same thing.  i found several things to try, but really need to get this fixed asap.  when i try to install the printer, it shows up, and adds just fine.  i am really  having a fit here.

the copying thing is an absolute must also.  i may be able to get by without the print issue fixed, but would like to know what happened just for my own information.  thanx in advance.

Using 2008 server with rdp licenses to access server 2012 essentials

Hi We have recently upgraded to server 2012 essentials and need to have more than 2 rdp connections to the server at any one time, at the time of the build we only needed 2 connections.

The question is we have our old server 2008 with rdp licensing and client licensing still in tact but not connected to the server 2012 domain, can we somehow use the 2008 server to be the rdp logon server instead of having to go and buy 2012 standard just to do this job ?

thanks

RDP - Slow initial connection

When making theFIRST Remote Desktop Connection between any of the following:

Local Computer                Remote Computer

Windows 7                          Windows 7

Windows 7                          Windows Server 2008

Windows Server 2008    Windows 7

Windows Server 2008    Windows Server 2008

there is a 20-30 second delay before the connection is established.  On some versions of Remote Desktop client you will see the message “Securing Remote Connection” during the delay.   Once the first connection has been established the delay disappears for any new connections which occur within the next 3-5 minutes.  After 3-5 minutes the delay reoccurs.

The delay does NOT occur for the following connections:

Local Computer                Remote Computer

Windows 7                          Windows XP

Windows 7                          Windows Server 2003

Windows Server 2003    Windows 7

Windows Server 2003    Windows Server 2008

There are no certificates nor terminal services gateways involved.  This is on a LAN connection.

Remote Desktop Virtualization Host failed to get redirection authentication information from the virtual machine

Hello,

When implementing a VDI solution, I'm getting an error on our virtualization host server.  The error is:

Remote Desktop Virtualization Host failed to get redirection authentication information from the virtual machine [VDI-PC].

Hresult 0x8000FFFF

Event ID 8467, Severity: Warning, Source: Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices\TSV\VmHostAgent

This error happens every time a user or admin connects to a VDI desktop.  This is a fresh install of Remote Desktop Services on completely fresh servers.  This is in testing and we have not ever had it working before without the error.

Topolgy: Server2012 R2, Windows 7

Srv-RDCB1: Is the connection broker and Web Access server.  It is Virtualized thru Hyper=V.

Srv-RDVH1: Is the virtualization host.  It is a physical server. It also has a separated hyper-v role (for RDS VDI deployment).

Everything seems to be functional other than this error in the log, and I haven't found any information on what this could mean.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Windows Server 2012 R2 Specify License Server With Only The Session Host Role Installed

Hi-

I am setting up Citrix 7.1 PVS machines with Citrix VDA on them. The only RDS role that Citrix VDA requires is Remote Desktop Session Host. So that is working. I have another server that is our RDS license Server. All I want to be able to do is specify the RDS license server that these servers need to get their RDS CAL's from. In the past I was told that I had to add the Connection Broker and the Session Host role then create a session (I usually just use the quick session setup). Can I specify the license server without adding the Connection Broker and Session host?
TIA

Server 2012 Remote Desktop "Admin Mode" missing Host Configuration

$

Hi,

I've searched the forums, the TechNet library, google, bing, without success. Please can someone clarify the following for me:

I'm looking for a way to configure the RDP session host settings (redirection restrictions, limit color depth, etc.) for a stand-alone (non-domain-member/workgroup machine) server 2012 in "Admin Mode". Pretty much the same you could do in Windows 2008 (R2) using the Host Configuration snap-in.

I understand the host configuration snap-in is gone in 2012 (for whatever reason?!) and installing the RDS Session Host role requires me to make the machine member of a domain to configure its settings using the server manager (for whatever reason?!). I'm also not entirely sure if I need a CAL to run an RDS Session Host on a windows server but at least it seems to change some settings using gpedit.msc in Computer\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\... (strangely not all settings seem to work).

The ultimate question: is there a way to tweak those things on a stand-alone server 2012 running admin mode only? If so, how?

Thanks,
Stefan

Hi All,

Under WS2013 R2 Std Remote Desktop Services (RDP, Terminal Services),

1)  are there any special PCI (credit card security) requirements?

and

2)  is there a way to use 2048 bit encryption?

Many thanks,

Certificate mismatch for internal RDSH

$

Im sure this question has been asked/addressed over a dozen times. I do apologize in advanced for the repeat.

I have RDS setup on a 2008R2 box with a single certificate for the RDG. When users connect, they obviously get a mismatch certificate warning upon connecting to the internal RDSH server (RDSH.domain.local).

Besides using an internal CA, what other options do i have? I guess i can technically use a wildcard certificate and use a split DNS, but that's currently not an option.

Thanks

Unorthodox RDS Installation

I am attempting to recreate a “Terminal Server” type of environment in RDS 2012.  I had a Win2003 Terminal Server in my domain that users would connect to for one specific application central to the nature of my business.  As the app and the number of users have grown, I upgraded my domain to Windows 2012, and the 2003 TS continued to function just fine.  Users are directed to a specific .exe on the Terminal Server by a GPO covering their security group.
Wanting a richer desktop experience and faster graphics, I upgraded to a Win 2012 server with a nice GPU.  I installed Remote Desktop Session Host from the “Role-based or feature-based installation” option, along with License Diagnoser.  I then installed my app in “install mode,” with subsequent reversion to execute mode.  I did NOT use the “Remote Desktop Services Installation” option, and I did NOT install either the Connection Broker OR the Web Access component.  Going this route has led to NUMEROUS ERRORS, as one might expect.  These are examples:
Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user DOMAIN\xxxuser.
Error: NULL

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed while getting redirection packet from Connection Broker.
User : DOMAIN\xxxuser
Error: Remote Desktop Connection Broker is not ready for RPC communication.

The Windows All-User Install Agent could not update timestamp for user user account DOMAIN\xxxuser. The error code is 0x8007054F.

The Windows All-User Install Agent could not to retrieve a list of packages for the user account DOMAIN\XXXUSER. The error code is 0×80070002.

Nevertheless, the app functions just perfectly.  The ONLY functional loss I have discovered is my apparent inability for a user with a default printer other than the default TCP-port network printer installed on the RDSH machine to redirect print jobs.  When they try, they get this error:

The document Print Document, owned by xxxUser, failed to print on printer Dell B1260dn Mono Laser Printer (redirected 2). Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.
Data type: NT EMF 1.008. Size of the spool file in bytes: 589824. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client computer: \\TS2012. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied.

The drivers on the RDSH server and the Windows 7 Pro workstation with the direct-USB attached B1260dn are identical.  The user is in security group with permissions on the appropriate folders in Windows/System32/spool.  The appropriate GPO settings have been made and tested with modeling.

Do not allow client printer redirection Disabled
Do not set default client printer to be default printer in a session Disabled
Redirect only the default client printer Disabled
Specify RD Session Host server fallback printer driver behavior Enabled
When attempting to find a suitable driver: Default to PCL if one is not found.

Policy Setting Comment
Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first Disabled

I have even tried giving that security group permission to restart the spooler service on the RDSH server.  No luck with any of this.

I realize that my approach is totally unorthodox, but I really do not need the overhead of Web Access, or the added security risks that come with an IIS installation in my domain.  I have tried installing the Connection Broker with RDSH role, but this leaves no one but the administrator able to connect.  Is there some supported (or unsupported) way to achieve my goal without IIS and the Web Access component?  Alternatively, were I to go with the recommended RDS install method, could I subsequently disable IIS and remove Web Access and still have the functionality I desire?

Hello,

I was wondering, I have a Terminal Server 2008 with Office 2010 installed, and I need to change some default options for all users.  Can this be done globally on Terminal Server using a template or do these need to be changed user by user?

Thanks,

George

Multiple independent gateways that are not part of a Farm

Hi

I have looked at a few articles but cant quite find anything that confirms what I am trying to do.  I have also looked at the steps on setting up a gateway which is straight forward but I would like to find instructions on how to add an independent server.

Currently we have an Remote Desktop service and a Gateway.  I would like to do some testing and just want to add an independent gateway (but don't want to make it part of a farm or do load balancing).  I just want to build the second Gateway to test two factor authentication with and then delete the VMs.

Is this achievable or does this have to be part of a farm to be able to work.

and is there anything I need to look out for here?

How to set up remote desktop licensing mode in windows server 2012

$

Hi,

I've deployed yesterday a windows 2012 server (RTM) and set up the license server for my 10-CAL licenses. That's ok.

But I can not see a way to point my server to see the license server. Every time I log in, I receive a message that the RD services will expire in 119 days.

Using the diagnosis tool it says that licensing mode isn't set up.

Where I can find the tool to set up this licensing mode? In windows server 2008 this question was asked in the setup wizadr.

Thanks a lot!

RDS Cal Licenses not recognized

Available and Issued should add up to 10, but is instead showing 0 available, 0 issued, and using “Built-in-overused” instead of the legitimate CAL.

This causes an error in the licensing diagnose:

Remote desktop servers 2012 R2 web access

$

Hi,

I have a remote desktop farm which consists of 3 2012 R2 servers

Server 1 is gateway / web access / session broker / TS licensing

Server 2 RDSH

Server 3 RDSH

Currently when i login from external using web access it takes a long time for the authentication / authorization phase to complete. If i drill down into the RDP file on the local machine after downloading using the web feed URL i can untick the bypass RD gateway for local addresses and this speeds up the login process quickly. Where can i find the source of the app on the web access server so that i can edit the .rdp so that when users login to the web interface the app presented will not have this setting configured?

Disconnect session at logon on only one profile

Hi,

We have an issue on Windows 2008 R2 server.

We logon by on a services account session to launch differents interactives batch. After some times (variable) session is disconnect automatically. And we can't back on this session by rdp, session is open correctly and disconnect immediatly.

I find in event viewer different information but without error, just directly disconnect.

Remote Desktop Services: User authentication succeeded:
User: MyaccountService
Domain: MyDomain

1/27/2014 8:23:58 AM

Remote Desktop Services: Session has been disconnected:
User: MyaccountService
Session ID: 4

1/27/2014 8:24:01 AM

To allow me to connect again by rdp on this session, i need to log off the session, and it will works for few hours.

In the same time, I could open a rpd session on all other account without any disconnection...

Could it be a limit on the video size memory which not allow us to see the session ? Limit on memory ? ...

Thanks for your help

Eric
