Can't access 2008 R2 server over Remote Desktop

$

I have 6 remote servers all configured identically (I think).  All are running 2008 R2 SP1.

5 of them I can get to no problem.

1 of them Rempte Desktop client immediately gives the "This computer can't connect to the remote computer".

The remote computer is up.

RDP is enabled (confirmed that the services are running)

The firewall inbound rules are there (and just to be sure, I temporarily disabled Firewall to no avail).

There is no hardware firewall.

I can't think of anything else to check.  It *should* be working, but doesn't.

Ror now am accessing the server via Log Me In, otherwise I can't get to it.

For kicks, if I disable Remote Access, when I try to connect it times out (becuase the service isn't running), as opposed to what I see when it is running, which is an *immediate* error saying that I can't connect.  So this proves the services are starting.

Any ideas? I'm stuck here...

Thanks in advance...

Registery Hive on Windows 2008 R2 Citrix XenApp

Hi all,

User's Registry Hive is not being unloaded when session is disconnected and passes disconnect timeout.
When user's logoff or meet the idle timeout their registry hive is unloaded and their profile is uploaded to the roaming profiles server, then their profile is deleted off the Citrix server. When users disconnect and their session times out, their registry hive is never unloaded and their profile remains on the Citrix server. Below are the details of the environment:

We are getting error remote desktop service busy and when we manually  go  to servers and unload hive of user profiles it is working fine.

We have around 60 servers on Windows 2008 R2 and Citrix XenApp 6.5

We need to know what is root cause of the issue and is their in  Microsoft Hot fix for windows 2008 r2 that need to  be applied.

i  had checked many  forums and i cannot get a proper answer.

Its takes long time at securing connection and fails.

Receiving System.IO.FileLoadException from time to time

We are having an issue with some of our servers after updating some custom DLLs (DLLs doesn't go the GAC, just fully trusted location). We have multiple versions of our application in the same server. The older version seems to run fine without error. The newer version with the updated custom DLLs does.

Our application will sometimes throw a System.IO.FileLoadException with no reference to the file it is trying to load. The problem doesn't happen all the time. Normally, after a reboot the error goes away. However, there are some users that report seeing the error later in the week. We have a server that was experiencing the error in the morning but later that day no more incidents.

Basically, the error clears up after a reboot of the server or just clears up on it's own. Any ideas?

Installing RDP 8.1 on Server 2008

I've installed the prerequisite and update for RDP 8 on a Server 2008 R2 virtual server. When I look at the About information "Remote Desktop Protocol 8.0 supported". However, the gpedit option isn't there under:

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment

What else needs installed?

Thanks!

I have just found out that the previous IT company has not done any updates to our server with Server 2003 on it. It has been more then a year for updates. 120  updates. According to them the system is corrupt and will not install updates. Is there any harm like a crash or anything I need to be worried about as I try to install updates?

RDS 2012 - HTTP & UDP Gateway Connections Reset

$

Hi

I have a single Windows 2012 R2 RDS server, which acts as all the RDS roles, including RD Gateway.

I also have an Windows 2012 R2 IISARR server setup to reverse proxy 443 connections to the server, and have port 3391 open on our firewall to allow UDP connections.

In short, if I connect using an RDP 8 client, I get three connections as expected. One HTTP and two UDP. If I connect using an RDP 7 client, I get one RPC-HTTP connection, again as expected.

The problem is that whereas the RPC-HTTP connection is stable, the HTTP & UDP connections disconnect every 2-5 minutes. The client screen goes black and a Reconnect Attempt 1/20 windows is displayed. Each time though the connection re-establishes itself and the session is not reset.

In the gateway manager, monitoring page, you can witness these connections disconnecting and re-connecting. It's very puzzling. The event logs acknowledge the disconnect, stating reason 0.

On the Windows 8 clients, I've tried the recent hotfix 2897602 and tried turning off Windows Location Services. But that doesn't help.

I've read a lot about UDP and RDP8, with some saying it doesn't work properly and that you should turn it off. However, I have it turned on as I was having problems scrolling PDF files in the remote session, which the UDP connections fixed.

Any help with this would be much appreciated. I've done so much research and spent so much time on it...

Thanks

Andrew

We have a Terminalserver farm with 4 servers(2008 R2) participating in the farm.Randomly when users try to connect to using the farm name they get the error "The task you are trying to do can't be completed because Remote Desktop Services is currently busy".The way to resolve the issue is to reboot the servers.

Steps tried from my end.

-Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client]
"Keep Alive Interval"=dword:00000001

Make the following registry changes on the terminal server:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server]
"KeepAliveInterval"=dword:00000001
"KeepAliveEnable"=dword:00000001

Disable TCP Chimney and Task Offload on all of the machines.

netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled

Any help on the same would be appreciated

Redirected Printer Settings Greyed out and Missing Finisher & Trays

$

Hi,

I have added a new local printer . The printer has 2 additional trays and a finisher added.

When I log onto the terminal server (server 2008 R2), the printer is redirected, but without the extra 2 trays and finisher. Most options are greyed out within the properties of the printer driver.

Same as this issue here:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/2eeeb270-9cbb-4628-ad22-0ef3df6549d6/printers-not-redirecting-properties-and-preferences

The driver is installed on the server and I have tried disabling the 2 GPO settings 'Use Terminal Services Easy Print printer driver first' and 'Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first'.

Does anyone know a solution to this??

Remote desktop services on secondary server not accessible from internet

I am having an issue configuring remoteapps. I have two servers, Server 2011 SBS, fully configure and running great. The second server, Server 2008R2, is a backup server hosting a company db. We would like to configure remoteapps on the R2 server.

I have added the role and configuration and is running and accessable from the R2 server.

Can it be accessible from outside the network, over the internet?

Any guidance would very much be appriciated!

Thank you

Delay in Printing (Urgent help needed)

Hi!

We have a printer mapped in Win 2008 R2 Terminal Server and using Easy Print Driver. When we try to print on it from terminal server it takes some time like a few seconds to print. Whereas if we print from local machine where it is installed, it prints quickly.

We also have a win 2003 32bit Terminal Server who does not have this problem with this printer. May be because it is using the correct driver.

Can we do something to let this printer print fast from win 2008?

Thanks.

Unable to create VDI Collection

$

I have a Server 2012 that I am trying to create a small test deployment for VDI. I have installed all the required roles and setup the template for the VDI. The problem I am having is when I try to create the VDI Collection. It will go through all the steps to create the machines but fails every time no matter if I use a Windows 7 image or a Windows 8.1 image. The error in the "Task Status Details" shows "RD Connection Broker could not create the computer account object in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). Ensure that the RD Connection Broker computer account has permissions to create computer accounts in the OU, the RD Connection Broker server can contact AD DS, and a duplicate computer account object does not exist in a different OU." I have gone through all the various documents to make sure that the proper permissions are set for the RD Connection Broker. I am actually thinking it is not a permission issue but something else entirely. I say that because whenever I try to create the Collection I notice there is a number of errors in the Event Viewer.

The errors in the Event Viewer are as follows:

Ntfs (Microsoft-Windows-Ntfs) Event ID: 140

The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur in VolumeId: \\?\Volume{ffe9cba8-a55b-11e3-9428-d48564437956}, DeviceName: \Device\HarddiskVolume110.

{Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \$LogFile. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

This of course makes it where the VDI Collection fails. This will happen every time that I try to create a Collection Pool. I have tried to store the Collection on the local RAID array as well as a NAS iSCSI drive with the exact same results. I have updated the RAID Controller drivers as well as Firmware with no change.

What could the problem for this?

Just as additional information here is the permissions the Collection Broker has to the OU that the VMs are to be created:

Server 2012R2 -- RDS Farm with XP and Windows Vista Clients

$

Hi There,

My team has been having some fun in getting our Server 2012R2 farm operational, annoyingly MS documentation is severely lacking on how to correctly configure a 2012R2 Farm correctly.

We have an RDG1-TCC server, which is the RDGateway, RDConnection Broker and RDWeb Server. We have two session host servers RDS1-TCC and RDS2-TCC.

It took us some time and much online research to figure out exactly how we needed to configure the RDS server as a lot of information online for 2012R2 was apparently incorrect(was based on 2008R2 practices). We started off with using a DNS Round Robin for the RDS Session hosts servers and after a number of certificate issues, we later found this was incorrect. We're now using RDWeb exclusively, which appears to be the correct way to have the Connection Broker working?

We've ran into a number of issues with certificates too, we have an external certificate for remote.domain.com. Installing this on all 4 options in the certificate manager has made internally work correctly via RDWeb, however externally we are getting a certificate mismatch as it's trying to connected to RDG1-TCC with a certificate for remote.domain.com. I'm pretty sure I can resolve this with a replacement remote.domain.com certificate that includes a SAN for *.domain.internal. Testing with a self signed certificate seemed to resolve this issue.

Now providing i've configured everything the correct way, we have an issue where RDWEb RDP files do not work internally or externally for XP, Vista or Windows 7 (With RDP7.1). Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 7 with RDP 8/8.1 updates work perfectly fine. Unfortunately this new client has a few XP machines that they are not willing to update just yet.

Is there a known fix/workaround to get these older clients working correctly?

Sorry for the extremely long post, but I'm sick of banging my head against the wall trying to get something that we assumed would have been fairly simple to get up and running.

Cheers,

Ben

Cannot generate RDS CAL license report from Powershell

$

Hi.

We are monitoring RDS CAL usage with SCOM. This is done by running scheduled RDS CAL reports and looking for the event log message about too many issued licenses. This works fine on a Windows 2008 R2 RD License Server.

Now I wanted to set up the same script on a Windows 2012 RD License Server, but there seems to be something broken in the RDS Powershell.

This is the script:

Import-Module RemoteDesktopServices
cd RDS:\LicenseServer\IssuedLicenses\PerUserLicenseReports
New-Item -name scheduled -scope DOM

The problem is the new-item cmdlet, which doesn't seem to work. It fails with error message "new-item : The path 'RDS:\LicenseServer\IssuedLicenses\PerUserLicenseReports\scheduled' does not exist."

Even if I run the command from the "Get-help new-item -examples" I get the same error.

Has anyone done this succcessfully on Windows 2012?

Silverlight not working on 2012 R2 RDS host

Versions:

2012 R2 Server as RDS host

IE 11.0.9600.16518

Silverlight 5.1.20913.0

Firefox 27.0.1

-------------

A department needs access to a Silverlight application hosted here https://client.capturerx.com/cumulus

I'm moving this department from 2003 Terminal Services to 2012R2 RDS.

I installed Silverlight by downloading the silverlight 64 installer and installing it via control panel>install programs on Remote Desktop Server while logged on as administrator

As a standard user (no policies yet applied) Silverlight does not show up in IE addons, even when I select Show: All Add ons

In Firefox, the plugin is available, and configured to allow storage, but will not let a silverlight plugin cache itself or any data.

A silverlight test site seems to run OK in Firefox bubblemark .com / silverlight2 .html

I don't know what else to try. Any help is appreciated

Licensing diagnosis changes to not available

$

I have 2 RDS servers (win2008R2) that can see the RDS licensing server (Win2008R2) (ping, log in remotely to, etc), but when I try to specify the licensing server under Session Host config, I get this error:

"the license server selected is not connectable at this moment...."

It lets me choose it anyway, but no CALs are used and I get the ‘You have X days left to specify a Licensing server’….warning.

Under ‘Licensing Diagnosis’ on the RDS servers, it shows ‘not available’ for the licensing server and allows me to pass credentials (but will only accept the local admin creds of the licensing server, not the domain admin account) , but if I close/open the dialog box, it goes back to ‘not available’.

The licensing server is happy as can be, all green checks under ‘Review Config’….scope set to Forest.

The licensing server was originally installed to service Citrix CALs, but we have removed Citrix completely from our environment and I also removed the Citrix Licensing app from the licensing server.

Also, Win2000 & Win2003 CALs are still installed on the licensing server as well as the new 2008 CALs. Could those be causing a conflict?

I have run multiple searches regarding this issue, but no one has my exact scenario.

Thanks
