RDS Session Host asking for Smart Card

$

0

I set up an RDS farm with gateway/rd web and has been working fine

I've gone to demo it and when logging into the session host(2012R2) it is now asking to insert a smartcard

I have done some troubleshooting that others have suggested but no luck?

Interactive logon-> Require Smart card is set to disabled local GPO

Smart Card Enumeration service is set to disabled

On the gateway login type has been set to 0 (password NTLM)

Any ideas?

Thanks

Playing Video smoothly (youtube or mp4 file) through RemoteApp or RDP into Win 7 from 2012

We're setting up a 2012 R2 RDS, and sending the RemoteApps into Windows 7, both Enterprise and ThinPC. Video playing is a problem - both youtube, and playing video files.

WMP will play fine in a full RDP session, but it becomes very glitchy when piped through a Remote App into Win 7 Thin PC or Enterprise. Youtube or Vimeo are very glitchy both in full RDP session and in IE Remote App.

What options have I got to get this working?

Both the Win 7 Thin PC and the Win 7 Ent clients are running the latest version of the RDP client (6.3.9600), supporting protocol 8.1.

The 2012 R2 hosts are fully up to date.   In IE, the Adobe reports the Flash version as 12.0.0.77, same in Chrome.  No surprise there, just one thing I was checking in the context of youtube being so glitchy and jumpy.

This termsvc team blog post talks about seamless multimedia experience on Win 8 & 2012 - but I don't think that it applies in our case since we are using Win 7 clients.

I'm new to terminal services, but from reading up about RemoteFX, it seems like there was a period during which RemoteFX had to be enabled by Group Policy, but that seems to no longer apply to my situation (where the clients support RDP protocol 8.1).  Is that correct, or are there some policies I should be enabling on my 2012 R2 hosts to enable the best multimedia experience for clients using RDP protocol 8.1 in Win 7?

How to access the client PCs via RDP FROM Windows Server 2003

Hopefully this is not an ignorant question, but every thread I've read focuses on client PCs not being able to access the terminal server. I have the opposite problem. I am working remotely and have full access to the servers (some of which are virtuals).

I need to be able to connect to the various workstations, but I cannot.  Is this just a setting I have misconfigured?  Is there any software I can deploy to these PCs that will allow me to log in and update their workstations?

Any help is sincerely appreciated.

Printing problem with Konica Minolta BizHub282 using RDP on Windows Server 2008 R2

Hello,

I have an office setup as follows:  Local office IP adress scheme 192.168.201.x.  There is a Konica Minolta BizHub 282 printer connected to the 192.168.201.x network as well as around 10 workstations running Windows 7.  There are also about 10 additional teleworkers WHO DO NOT NEED print access to the Minolta 282.  All of their data is on a cloud server.  I have them setup to first connect to the cloud server using a RRAS PPTP VPN and then to start an RDP session to the separate RDP server.  The Konica Minolta works ??okay?? with the easy print services and until now, we have just dealt with the lack of features and the occasional print job that goes crazy and prints out 400 blank pages (btw, this is usually on Excel) or a job that cuts off the margins even when you have it set to "fit to page" (this usually happens in Adobe.)  When I originally set this up, I tried loading the native Konica drivers on the server, but there was no joy because I couldn't get it to work using the native drivers.  The problem at hand is a feature called "account track."  This feature authenticates your print job by using an account code.  If there is no code, the job just disappears.  When I load the native Konica driver, the ability to turn on this feature is greyed out (see below):

When I use easy print, the codes seem to go through, but as I mentioned earlier, sometimes the print job just goes insane.  After researching this, it seems to me that there are two ways to overcome this if we can't turn off the account track feature:

1) Overcome the driver problem. I've tried both of their current drivers without success: VXL and Visual Postscript. When I login to RDP, the (redirected) Konica 282 printer is listed, but when I try to print, it fails due to the missing account track code. I'm hoping that there is a registry hack to turn this feature on by default with the code or a driver version that works with RDP. They have a WHQL driver available, but it didn't work any better. Is there a way to report this issue to the WHQL labs? Maybe I can light a fire under Konica's rear end and motivate them to fix the driver.

2) I saw one discussion where the guy installed the printer out in the clouds as a local printer. He seemed to have a site-to-site VPN, not a client-to-site VPN, so this worked.  Is there a way to do something similar when the customer connects to the VPN through standard "connect to workplace" setup?  I tried pinging the Konica 282 from the server while logged into the VPN, but the printer could not be found.

3) I considered setting it up as a google cloud print prnter, but that would require everyone to setup a google account and add a layer of complexity.

Anyone else run into this and have a solution?  If not, does anyone have any ideas on a solution or workaround?

Thanks,

Jeffery Smith

Hi All,

I have a problem here in Terminal Server. I can not see the users logged in to Server but i know users are accessing the files and currently working.

1. From the Task Manager-- Show processes from all users displayed all the processes accessing by users.

2. From the Task Manager-- From Users Tab--No users list at all

3. From the Command Prompt- Query users-- No information

4. From the Remote desktop services Manager-- used with IP/Host name-- Still can not see the users list and processes. So i can not kill the session if needed.

Enviroment:

TS CALS 20 currently accessing 15 users

VM-WARE GUEST: 2008 RS Terminal Services/Remote Desktop services installed

Windows up to date-- Just updated last month

Problem is here for long time. Just couldn't find the time to trouble shoot.

RDS Servers Virtual Memory is low

Hello All,

I have managed to setup an RDS Farm with Windows server  2008 R2 .

Basically everything works fine , connected to domain and so on.

I have 3 Physical host sessions servers with 32GB Memory installed on each. They are all running 2008 server 64x. I have about 10 Users which I published a remote apps ( Internet explorer, Google chrome and outlook 2013 )

The problem :

Sometimes, all of a sudden, clients are disconnected from the server and get the error :

"Your computer does not have enough virtual memory available." ( Screenshot is attached )

What could be the reason for that error? Which computer is running out of memory? The remote computer or the local One?

If further information is needed please tell.

Please help .

Thanks in Advance!

directory quotas for profiles using UPD

$

Hi. We have 2012 R2 RDS deployment using profiles stored as UPD (User Profile Disks). We need to be able to dynamically change the quota for the user.

Therefore at creation we defined UPD maximum size (that will never be reached), but we need to be dynamically control each user's quota and change it on demand. Example: we've configured max UPD disk size to be 200GB, but we need to set quota for users anywhere between 1GB and those 200GB.

Using traditional local/roaming profiles, this could be easily solved using directory quotas on the C:\Users folder on the RDSH server.

However with UPD, this approach doesn't work, since profiles stored as UPD disks are mounted at logon as mount points and are not recognized by FSRM (File Server Resource Manager) correctly (partially understandably since mount point is not a directory).

The only approach you can take with this is log on the user, then set the quota manually, then logoff (since the folder is only mounted when the user is logged in and quota cannot be created if the path doesn't exist).

Is there a better solution to this as the manual way (and especially restricted by the condition that the user must be logged on while creating the quota) is not acceptable.

SSO Web Apps within Remote Desktop

Hello All,

i have a server 2012 R2 farm and i have 2 collections of servers, both are Session Hosts.

1 is desktops and 1 is RemoteApps

If i log into the web access servers to display the Apps and the Desktop collection, I can open all apps and desktop without additional creds.

If i open the desktop session and add the remote apps in control panel i always get a prompt for creds when opening them.

i have applied the credential delegation GPO to the OU with the servers, Users etc as its not too clear when i am to apply these and it still does not work, am i missing something?

i think, from looking at other posts that i cannot apply the remote apps from a GPO as i get the following error in the Event logs:

Remote application (Internet Explorer) is launched on RemoteApp and Desktop connection (broker.xxxx.com) but no stored credentials are used for single sign on. (Reason - No credentials are stored on the RemoteApp and Desktop connection)

Any suggestions guys

Thanks

Luke

Slowness when connecting to RemoteApp configured in Windows 2008 R2 Server using RDP file

$

Dear All,

When connecting to a RemoteApp configured in Windows 2008 R2 with less privileged user it takes ~20 seconds to connect.

Initial connection toapplication takes about 20-30 seconds and once loaded, subsequent RemoteApp connection takes 2-3 seconds. i.e. if there is a disconnected session available in the server it connects quickly otherwise it takes long time.

I am seeing this issue with Windows 2008 Server, when I connect to a Windows 2012 Server RemoteApp gets connected quickly. Also if I try with higher privileged user (like RemoteAdmin) connection is quick. The user I am trying is having lot of group policies set to limit user access to file system, desktop and registries.

If I keep UAC settings to minimal level connection happens quickly(i.e. solves this issue). But I am not supposed to change the server UAC setting. It seems this has something to do with the list of group policies set for the user.

Any suggestion to avoid this first time connection delay for less privileged users for connecting to RemoteApp (in Windows 2008 Server).

Thanks

Windows Server 2012 can see RD Session Host server but not the available CALs

$

Hello,

I have a Hyper V host server running Server 2012. My Terminal Server is a VM, also running Server 2012, on the Hypver V host server. I have installed all of our CALs in Per user mode, but when I try to run Licensing Diagnosis from the Hyper V host machine, it says this:

The Remote Desktop Session Host server is in Per User licensing mode and VM Redirector Mode, but license server <Server FQDN> does not have any installed licenses with the following attributes:
Product version: Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2
Licensing mode: Per User
License type: RDS CALs

The problem is that I know there are RDS CALs that meet that requirement installed on my terminal server. In fact, if I scroll down just a bit, I can see it's saying "Installed: 170, Available: 128". I can ping from the host server to the terminal server just fine, so I know they're communicating, but I don't know why it's telling me it doesn't have any licenses with those attributes...?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am using RDP to get into some Hyper-V VMs.  Most applications launch no problem but I have a few similar ones that will launch local on the server through the VM Connector but when I use RDP they won't launch.

Server 2012 - Problem with multiple instances of RDS looking to the same license server. Server Pools requiring the wrong servers.

$

Hi All,

I have two domains, prod.local and test.local.  On prod.local, I have a license server living on the connection broker.  I have created a two way trust between the domains so that the RDS instance on test.local can use the license server on prod.local. When I first setup the RDS instance on test.local and point it to use the license server on prod.local everything appears to work, all servers recognize the license server.

However when I log off and back on, and click the RDS dashboard in test.local, the Remote Desktop Services overview states I need to add every server from prod.local to the server pool.  This is bothersome because the Remote Desktop Services on test.local is still functioning, but I am no longer able to manage it.  When I add the servers from prod.local to the server pool I am displayed the setup for prod.local instead of test.local

Is there a way around this?  Can I use the same RDS license server key multiple times?

tldr: Using a different domain's license server causes my RDS instance in Server Manager to display the wrong RDS farm.

2012 R2 RDS Temporary Profile issue

I am having the same issue: I have a new Windows 2012 R2 server running AD and RDP. Everything was working great until I rebooted yesterday, and now when I log in at the server, it logs me in as an RDP user and a temporary profile.    My external RDP users log in just fine, and their profiles are okay.  What is Microsoft doing about getting a fix for this?

Strange behavior of KB2923545 update. RemoteApp takes focus.

We have terminal farm on Windows Server 2012 (RDS 2012), and several RemoteAppapplications.

Once installed on the client computers with the Windows 7 updateKB2923545 get the following problem.

RemoteApp running application takes away the focus from a certain application periodicity.

This happens as follows:RemoteApp application is open, but not in focus.User are working in any application, such as in Microsoft Word.User is typing text without looking at the monitor. While typing the focus from the currently active application (Microsoft Word) goes to RemoteApp application and the user enters text into nowhere, causing very angry. That is RemoteApp application does not go to the front, it still sits in the background or minimized. But the focus (cursor) it catches itself. On the taskbar, it shows the application icon highlighted RemoteApp.

Prompt, who faced with a similar, what to do?
Is there a solution?
Critical Update or whether it can be safely declined?
Does MS know about this behavior of this update?

Hiding Drives Via GPO

$

Hello-

We run Citrix APP 7.1 on WIndows Server 2012. I need to hide the C and E drives from users when they click Save As and browse.

I want to use GPO. I followed this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/231289/en-us but the GPO selection is limited to selecting drives A,B,C and D. Is there any way to hide drive E? The drive needs to stay online and accessible to the OS as it is the Citrix PVS Write Cache disk. I just want to hide it. I cannot use the "Hide all drives" as users have mapped network drives and that is where we want them to save items.

TIA

Office 2013 on RemoteApp Windows 2012 not rendering dialogs properly

Hi All,

We have a strange issue where Dialog boxes in Office randomly fail to render, for example go to Outlook 2013 Options and you get the sidebar, but none of the content but this is totally random and only on one environment.

We thought we had got rid of this with Tooltips disabled but we still get the odd random dialog that fails to render properly.

Wanted to see if anyone was aware of this or experienced it previously?

Thanks

2008 R2 RDS Allocates Little Memory per Session - Apps Slow

$

0

I have an RDS server physical on Dell PowerEdge T410, 16 cores, 32Gb RAM.

With 8-10 RDP sessions connected only 5Gb of physical RAM is used out of the 32Gb available. The apps (Dynamics ERP) are performing sluggishly - at least 50% slower than in native Windows client server on an average desktop. The desktops utilize 2-4Gb each, so I am having hard time understanding how 8 concurrent sessions only uses 5Gb. These session should be faster than on desktops. LAN/WAN bandwidth is not in the picture, because the same slow speed happens on the console.

Note: in addition to RDS, this server also has IIS Role.

Maybe the server is not tuned for RDS?
