RD User CALs not released after deleting AD account

$
0
0

Hello,

we are using User CALs on a central RD Licensing server to manage licenses across out forest.

From my understanding any assigned User CAL should be released after the associated AD account is deleted - however in our environment this is not the case: The CALs are still show as assigned in the reports even though the accounts were deleted several days ago.

The RD licensing server is located in the root domain and the users are spread across the child domains. Is there anything that would prevent the licensing server from detecting that a user was deleted in a child domain?

Outlook search fields are grayed out in RDS Farm

Hello All,

I have an RDS Farm 2008 Which I "Publish" outlook 2013 to my clients.

Everything Works just fine except one thing:

The Common Properties in the Search Field of Outlook 2013 are grayed out ( Screenshot is attached ).

I have 3 Servers in the RDS farm and it works only when the user is logged on to server number 1.All the search fields are available.

When the user logs off and reconnect to server number 3 - it does not work and the search fields are grayed out.

Here are some more details:

1. Roaming profile is being used.

2. Cache mode is disabled by policy (GPO ) - so no OST files are exist neither allowed.

3. I have already tried to delete the user profile but no luck.

4. Same version and features Of Office 2013 are installedon all the servers.

5. Windows Search Featureis installedon all the servers.

6. No accees to Drive C is Allowed - by policy ( No access to the servers C Drives  )

7. Bassically, all of my Servers are identical (or maybe not ??? )

My guess will be something with the search indexing and all that but I could not figured it out...

Please advice.

Thanks in advance.

RD Gateway - 404 - File or directory not found - Remote Desktop Services 2012 R2 - External users

Hi All,

I’m currently deploying RDS to our network, I’ve installed and configured the RD Gateway role – accessing https://remote.external.com/RDWeb internally works fine but not externally. Externally https://remote.external.com reaches the servers default IIS page but once I put /RDWeb I get the error 404 – File or directory not found.

I’m not sure what’s not configured properly but below is the setup – keep in mind that the internal domain is different to the external FQDN i.e. the server name of the GD Gateway is Server4.internal.pri and the FQDN to access RDS externally is remote.external.com

- Server1.internal.priInternal NetworkRD Session Host

- Server2.internal.priInternal NetworkRD Session Host

- Server3.internal.priInternal NetworkRD Connection Broker, RD Licensing, RD Web Access

- Server4.internal.priDMZ NetworkRD GatewayDMZ IP/ Internal IP

- Certificate for all servers is a wildcard *.external.com

In the RDS Deployment Properties

Deployment Properties> Certificates> all certificates are configured with a wildcard certificate e.g. *.external.com

Deployment Properties> RD Web Access server= server3.internal.pri URL = https:// server3.internal.pri/RDWeb

Deployment Properties> RD Gateway> Server name = remote.external.com – I’ve understood that this is the URL (FQDN) to access RDS and not the RD Gateway servername itself

RD Gateway Manager Properties

Browse and import certificate> *.external.com

Transport Settings> IP address for HTTPS = 192.168.x.x (DMZ IP)

Transport Settings> IP address for UDP = 192.168.x.x (DMZ IP)

IIS

Both the RD Gateway and the Connection Broker have https certificate as *.external.com and in the site bindings https is * for ip addresses, specifying the DMZ IP on the RD Gateway doesn’t fix the issue

DNS, Network, Domain etc..

remote.external.com points the Public IP in DNS with an A record – Public IP is NATed to the RD Gateways DMZ IP on the firewall – RD Gateway is joined to the domain – RD Gateway has another NIC with an internal IP

Firewall

Port 80, 443, 3391 is open from the internet to the RD Gateways DMZ IP, RD Gateway also has an internal IP with full access to the other RDS roles

Errors I receive with the MS Best Practice Analyzer

Problem:
The Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway) server Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate may not have a valid certificate subject name.
Impact:
If the RD Gateway server is configured to use an SSL certificate with a certificate subject name that is not valid, users cannot connect to internal network resources (computers) through the RD Gateway server.
Resolution:
Use the RD Gateway Manager tool to select a valid SSL certificate for the RD Gateway server to use.

Even though I did configure this… seems like it might be from the split DNS

Other

I can access RDS from the RD Gateway box https://remote.external.com and client machines

no certificate errors internally, either externally when I reach the default IIS page of the RD Gateway i.e. https://remote.external.com

Any help is much appreciated!

Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server Event ID 20499

I keep getting Event ID 20499 "Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server \\SERVERNAME for user USERNAME" in our event logs for multiple servers that are running 2012 R2

I noticed that when this happens the user often is missing items that get applied via group policies such as desktop wallpapers and mapped drives.

I am also using the Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac that was release yesterday on another Mac computer and for certain users it won't launch the redirected folder that I specified when I get this Event ID 20499

VirtualChannelWrite hang mstsc.exe

I have developed client and server dlls for exchange data with virtual channel.

The dlls use static virtual channel api.

When on server side there are windows server 2003 - 2008 and on client side windows xp, 7, 8 all work fine.

When on server side there is windows server 2012 r2 and on client side windows xp again work fine.

The problem is when on server side there is windows server 2012 r2 and on client side windows  7 or 8.

In this configuration transfer file from server to client work, but when I try to send data from clien to server the client rdp (mstsc.exe) hang, not responding, the onlything that left todo is kill it from task manager.

Debugging client code I saw that the client hang when I write data in the channel (gpEntryPoints->pVirtualChannelWrite).

Any idea?

Thanks, Claudio

RemoteApp and Desktop Connections Error 0x800401F0 when updating RemoteApp connections from RDS webfeed

$

Environment:

Windows Server 2012 R2 with RDS roles installed.

Windows 8 clients

Issue:

The RDS Webfeed doesn't updated automatically. Instead, I get an error:

"An error occurred while updating this connection. Error code: 0x800401f0, 0x0"

I can perform a manual update in the control panel, but the users who will be using this on a regular basis are blocked from the control panel by a GPO.  Also, I don't want end users to have to perform this update manually anyway.

I've included a screenshot of the issue for reference.

RDP8+, "Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred"

Ok, I have racked my brain trying to figure this out and I'm out of ideas.

Issue - Random Windows 7 PC that has updated to RDP 8.0 gets this error when they try to connect to a server we have set up for them through a gateway.  Only happens when the computer is updated to RDP8.  Downgrading to RDP7.1 fixes the issue and they can connect just fine.

The issue only affect a very small number of computers.  Most Windows 7 computers with RDP 8.0 can connect just fine.  But right now, I am working with a client that has their own computers and domain (I have no control over) that are affected by this issue.  This is not the only client I have run into with this issue as well.

This problem is essentially what is described here - http://www.examiner.com/article/fixing-an-error-occurred-on-the-remote-computer-with-remote-desktop-connection  Except I would really like to know if there is a fix other than uninstalling RDP 8.

No disconnect warning when multiple remote users use same username and password to logon to VM

$

I created a single user account to be used by multiple users to access a system consisting of multiple VMs. The problem is that when User #1 has an active session and User #2 attempts to log onto the same VM User #1's session is ended without warning. Now if User #1 has an active session and User #2 attempts to log onto the same VM using different credentials a [Remote Desktop Connection] dialog displays alerting User #1 that User #2 wants to connect and gives an option to disconnect or stay connected. Realizing that the latter preferred behavior is because the two Users are using different credentials I would like to know if the same preferred behavior of alerting the Users of active connections can be enabled for instances when both Users are using the same credentials - perhaps by recognizing that their remote ips are different or something.

2012 R2 License server will not upgrade 2003 licenses to permanent

$

We migrated our Remote desktop licensing from server 2012 to server 2012 R2. We have 2003, 2008, and 2012 licenses installed. The migration was smooth with no issues. I usedhttps://activate.microsoft.com as I have before.

The new license server has been up and running for a few weeks and all seems good. The License server is issuing temporary licenses for all OS'es (server 2003, 2008, and 2012).

When I go into the licensing console, I see that the 2008 and 2012 licenses are being upgraded to permanent and this is verified in the event viewer by Event ID 82 ( The "Temporary"  Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 : TS or RDS Per Device CAL belonging to computer "XX-XXXXX" has been upgraded to "Permanent" Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 : TS or RDS Per Device CAL.)

However, the Server 2003 licenses are not being upgraded to permanent status, the event viewer shows no errors and the users are not reporting any issues.

Has anyone else seen this issue and know why the licenses are not being upgraded or know how to correct it?

Basic theme corrupt, black boxes in apps when connected

Hi....

On one of our Windows 2012 Remote Desktop Host servers we have the following problem.

--Not working example:

THE PROBLEM

-- Working example:

WORKING

---

So black boxes all over the place. When I troubleshooted this as admin I found that switching the theme to "Windows" under Windows standard theme  made the black boxes go away. But switching to the "Windows Basic" them makes them appear again.

So:

-- How do I fix the basic theme? As this is the theme regular users uses and they have no option of changing theme. RemoteApp technology is used.

-- Or possibly, as I think it works fine with the "Windows" theme, how do I apply this to all users logging in to the server?

Also, I have tried to find a solution on this on the forum, the internet and be general troubleshooting. No errors in the event log in Windows......

Looking forward to hear from you. Thank you in advance.

Remote Desktop Gateway domain mismatch

$

Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked a number of times but I am trying to find a definitive answer before I make any mass changes.

I'm trying to get RemoteApp and Remote Desktop Services Gateway working but we have a different internal domain name to our external domain. I have an ssl certificate for apps.domain.com although our internal domain is for example domain.local. When I try to connect using the apps.domain.com certificate, I get no errors anywhere from what I can see and no connections in Remote Desktop Manager so I assume it's not doing anything. My question really is am I best to rename the domain to a domain that is resolvable on the internet as our current internal domain name does not belong to us and purchase a SSL cert/wildcard cert for this domain? I've read a few posts suggesting that matching internal and external is a bad idea but wanted some clarification on this.

Many thanks in advance

Regards

Chris

Shortcuts to \\TSCLIENT do not work in File Open Dialog

Things I have tried:

1. Created a shortcut to \\TSCLIENT.  Moved the .lnk file into the %usersprofile%\Links

2. Created a shortcut to \|TSCLIENT, Moved shortcut into a folder called Local Files, Created a Shortcut to Local Files, moved the .lnk into %usersprofile%\Links

3. Created a folder named Files, Created a NTFS symbolic link named Your Files mapped to \\TSCLIENT, created a shortcut to Files and moved the .lnk into the %usersprofile%\Links location.

4. Created a Library added the Your Files Symbolic Link.

Note: 3 & 4 work with some programs but not others even though they use the same .NET file open dialog box.

5. Created a GPO with Places this works with the older file open dialogs post 2000 but not the new ones 2008 R2.

Any ideas please how I can create a persistent shortcut that can be used to access the UNC path \\TSCLIENT remotely?

RemoteFx and Twain Bandwidth on 2012 R2?

$

Hello,

Is it possible to compress the twain redirection traffic between the Windows 8.1 clients and the RDSH 2012R2 servers?

Because in a WAN branch office when a user scan a document (black and white, 100ppp, from a 1Mb/s WAN branch office) it takes around 1 minute to complete the operation (whereas the same operation take 10 seconds with citrix xenapp 4.5 and twain).

BTW "Configure compression for RemoteFX data" is set to "Optimized to use less network bandwidth".

L.H.

Cannot RDP to 2008R2 server

$

This issue comes and goes happened to few different 2008R2 servers.

Symptom:

Open Remote Desktop Connection with server’s name, click “Connect”.

After configuring remote session message, I put in the username and password, click OK.

It open the remote server windows, but it seems to be disconnected and close Windows immediately and back to Remote Desktop Connection again.

I have tried “Reboot server”, Reset the “RDP-Tcp session” without success.

There is no Error/Critical/Warning log in the Windows eventlogs.

By login server via console, I noticed something different in RDS Manager. Here is screenshot right after server rebooted.

Server   Session               User                      ID            State

Srv1       Services                  0              Disconnected

Srv1       Console                User1                    1              Active

Srv1       listener                 listener                 65536   Listen

Srv1       RDP-Tcp               listener                 65537     Listen

After first RDP attempt failed, there is a new session created with Down state.

Server   Session              User                      ID            State

Srv1       Services                                            0             Disconnected

Srv1       Console                User1                    1              Active

Srv1                                                               2              Down

Srv1       listener                 listener                 65536        Listen

Srv1       RDP-Tcp               listener                 65537        Listen

Hopefully, someone has answer for this weird issue.

Server 2012: Remote desktop licence manager not issuing licences

$

Hi,

I am battling with an problem which i cannot seem to resolve and no other forums actually come to a conclusion on how to resolve this problem!

I have a windows server 2012 server which is NOT part of a domain.

I have installed Remote Desktop Services and also installed the Remote Desktop License manager and i just cannot get the license manager to issue cals when users connect remotely via RDP

I have installed an extra two CAL's and tried using them as both a "Per User" and also "Per Device" but still does not work.

I have now run out of my grace period and cannot connect to the server at all

I have also tried changing some gpo's with no luck,

Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Licensing
"Use the specified RD license servers" = myservername
"Set the Remote Desktop licensing mode" = Per User

How can i fix this?

Thanks
