Restrict RDS Users To 2 Sessions Per User

$

Hello

I am currently working in an environment where we use a bespoke application install on two APP servers which have RDS installed and are load balanced with high availability. This works great however i have been asked if we can limit the amount of sessions per user to 2 sessions as there are people opening 3 and 4 sessions of the same application which is slowing down the server. Is this a possibility with just Windows Server 2012 R2 or RDS or will i need some 3rd party software/scripts?

Thanks in advance

Lewis

RD Gateway custom auth plug-in sample deployment failed

Hi,

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 with RD Gateway Role Service installed and Configured (Server1).

  • RD CAPs => OK
  • RD RAPs => OK

I have a client Windows 7 with RDP 8.1 update installed (Client1).

I have a second client windows 7 (Remote1) configured to allow RD.

In this configuration i can open a RDP on "Client1" with this option:

  • RD Gateway : ("Server1"),
  • User: <domain/user1>
  • password: <password>.

So, i follow the instruction describe in Sample "Remote Desktop Gateway Pluggable Authentication and Authorization Sample in C++ for Visual Studio 2012".

In "RD Gateway Manager" on "Server1" i have a message in "Configuration Status":

  • Due to pluggable Authorization, Remote Desktop connection authorization policies and Remote Desktop resource authorization policies are no longer used to manage authentication and authorization on this system. Use the appropriate administrative tool to manage these services.

And when i execute "sample.rdp" on "Client1" i have this error:

The user "<Domain\user1>", on client computer "xx xx xx xx", did not meet connection authorization policy requirements and was therefore not authorized to access the RD Gateway server. The authentication method used was: "Cookie" and connection protocol used: "HTTP".

The following error occurred : "23003".

Have you any suggestions ?

Thanks for any advise.

Windows Server Trial Licensing

We want to build up a test domain with Windows Server 2012 R2. It will be in an separate V-LAN with no connection to our “normal” Domain/Network.

First of all we want to use the 180 days trial version. Regarding this I have two questions:

-      Is it allowed to have as many users in this domain as we want to test or do we need user licenses (or is there a limit?)?

-      If we want to use it after the 180 days. Is it possible just to buy the licenses and activate it or do we have reinstall the whole environment?

Web passwords not saved in Credential Manager

Hello,<o:p></o:p>

since we build a new 2012R2 RDS farm we have problems
with the remember password for an IE website. The option to remember passwords
in IE is enabled but in the credential manager the password is not cached.<o:p></o:p>

I checked with vaultcmd /list to see where the vault
directory is stored. It is stored in
c:\users\%username%\appdata\local\Microsoft\Vault.<o:p></o:p>

That directory do not exist. (most of the time)<o:p></o:p>

Now the strangest thing is that sometimes it does work
and the directory suddenly exists. Its not server related, it is random. I did a search for
the Vault directory in all logged in users directory and some have the vault
directory and some not.<o:p></o:p>

Also new users have the same problem.<o:p></o:p>

I hope someone has an answer or solution? Thanx,<o:p></o:p>

RDS 2012 Deplyment RDG crashing

Hi All,

I hope someone out there can help us. We have a RDS 2012 deployment with the following configuration (.N.B. all servers are VMs on vSphere 5.5 Enterprise and brand new Dell servers and we have zero network issues as these have been fully checked several times)

2 x RD Connection Brokers (2012 R2)

2 RD Licence Servers (2012 R2)

1 x RD Web Access (2012 R2)

1 x RD Gateway server (2012 R2)

2 x Session collections, one with 10 Session Hosts and one with 4 session hosts (all session hosts are 2012, not R2)

We are experiencing a very very strange situation where the RDG simply stops procession connections randomly. there are absolutely no errors, warnings or critical events logged in ANY of the event logs (and we have trawled through every single one of them!(and the service does not stop or crash in the traditional sense. we also cannot launch the gateway manager console when this happens. if we restart the service then all is fine and users can reconnect. we have even replaced the gateway with a brand new box and the issue still prevails. All clients that connect through the RDG are a minimum on Windows 7 and have at least RDP 8.0 installed

Has anyone else seen this? it is becoming a real issue for us and people are losing faith, as they do

Windows Server 2012 R2 User Profiles Creation Question

$

We have a small RDS farm on Windows Server 2012 R2.

We are not using user profile disks (UPDs take up too much space).

When a user logs in everything that can be redirected from the Folder Redirection group policy IS redirected to \\file-server\Users\%username%, including AppData.

So far so good.

However -- unlike Win2k3 and Win2k8R2, profile folders are not being created in \\file-server\RDSProfiles, no username.DOMAIN folders or username.DOMAIN.V2 folders or anything similar.

Each RDS host server is having put a small profile folder with user-specific things like Outlook profiles -- PER SERVER!! It contains an AppData folder...

This means for example the Outlook first-run wizard must run 5 times (once upon each host servers) for the user's email profile to get saved properly...will it then be different per host server????

Is this normal in Windows Server 2012 R2??

Anything/something I should do differently??

Thank you, Tom

Remote app takes 30 sec to open

I have an app that takes 3 sec to start on RDSH but 30 sec on Windows 7 client machine when click the shortcut (RemoteApp)

As first troubleshooting steps I did:

1. disabled A/V (no effect)

2. checked Event Viewer. An error related to Certificate appears every 8 hours

"Automatic certificate enrollment for local system failed to contact the active directory (0x8007054b). The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. Enrollment will not be performed."

I am using trusted certificate and SSO is enabled. What is the next troubleshooting step?

The screen shot is from French OS (just for reference. comps are with French OS)

Redirect Serial Ports

We currently have Citrix servers.
I am testing TS 2008 as a possible replacement.
We have several thin clients that have gauges attached to the serial ports.
Sometimes they lose the ability to communicate, and we use a batch file to reset the port mapping:
net use com1: /d
net use com2: /d
net use
net use com1: \\client\com1:
net use com2: \\client\com2:
net use

This does not seem to work with TS 2008.  When I run it, I get a "System error 1200 has occurred."

Is there an equivalent command I can use with TS2008?

Server 2012 RDS requirements and licensing

Hello there:

For a one-off project, we are implementing a stand alone Windows 2012 Server w/ RDS.  We have up to 10 users, wanting concurrent access to RDS.  We do not have Active Directory in this section of our infrastructure.  I have been searching online, but have not found clear answers to the following questions:

1)  What is the minimum licensing and software required?  A Windows Server 2012 license, plus a 10 user RDS CAL?

2)  I understand that RDS should be installed on a member server, but is Active Directory required?  Do we need an AD PDC as well?

3)  Are there any other software or licensing requirements, or requirements for a second server which are required?

Thank you.

dllhost.exe COM surrogate high cpu

Hi forum,

We have terminal server running Win 2008 R2, and recently i have seen spikes in CPU usage. For example a user could be using 50% of the cpu.

When I took a closer look at the process causing high cpu it as listed as dllhost.exe COM Surrogate.

From my understanding this process is used to extract thumbnails when a user chose to preview the picture. This process also has been listed when using faulty codecs.

No my question is is there a patch or another way to tackle this issue. it is really annoying to be terminating process everyday.

I even tried to use a script that would do that job for me but I do no think it is the solutions.

Any advice, tips would help

Thank you

Although I have imported a certificate on the RDCH withe the farm name I want to use. When I click on a RemoteApp on the RD Web Access portal, it does not connect to the right farm name.

Windows 2012 Server - RDS Licenses not being Issued

$

Hello Everyone,

I spent a lot of time trying to find a resolution to this issue and could use some help.

My Environment:  I setup a 2012 Domain controller (DC01) and a 2012 RDS server (TS01).  The domain controller has the RD Licensing Manager and RD Licensing Diagnoser installed.  The TS01 server has all the other RDS roles installed.

I Installed the licenses on DC01 and they show 0 Available and 5 issues even though nobody has logged into the server

I also pointed the TS01 server to the license server (DC01) but I get this error when adding it:The license server specified is not valid.  Verify the server name and specify a valid server name before saving the settings.

When I run the RD License Diagnoser from either server, I get the below error.  Does anyone know what I'm missing?  Is the 2012 server really looking for 2008 RDS CALs???  I didn't think that was possible.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Remote Desktop Session Host Server is in Per User licensing mode and No Redirector Mode, but the license server dc01 does not any installed licenses with the following attributes:

Proiduct Version: Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Licensing mode: Per User

License type: RDS CALs

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I think we have 2 weeks left on our grace period.

Thanks in advance!

Terminal server does not have any installed licenses

Good morning! Faced with a some trouble while configuring Terminal Server (Windows Server 2012 based). I selected licensing mode "Per User" and now I see this message:

“The Remote Desktop Session Host server is in Per User licensing mode and No Redirector Mode, but license server “server name” does not have any installed licenses with the following attributes:

Product version: Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Licensing mode: Per User

License type: RDS CALs”

So this is trial using of terminal server - I have 25 days yet but already today I can't connect to server using RDP. There is an error message about absent licensing server. How can I activate licenses in trial mode? Thank you for support.

Windows Server 2012 can see RD Session Host server but not the available CALs

Hello,

I have a Hyper V host server running Server 2012. My Terminal Server is a VM, also running Server 2012, on the Hypver V host server. I have installed all of our CALs in Per user mode, but when I try to run Licensing Diagnosis from the Hyper V host machine, it says this:

The Remote Desktop Session Host server is in Per User licensing mode and VM Redirector Mode, but license server <Server FQDN> does not have any installed licenses with the following attributes:
Product version: Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2
Licensing mode: Per User
License type: RDS CALs

The problem is that I know there are RDS CALs that meet that requirement installed on my terminal server. In fact, if I scroll down just a bit, I can see it's saying "Installed: 170, Available: 128". I can ping from the host server to the terminal server just fine, so I know they're communicating, but I don't know why it's telling me it doesn't have any licenses with those attributes...?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Keep "Unknown Monitor on RDPUDD Chained DD" active after session end?

Hi. From what I've been able to gather, my CPU's (i7 3770) integrated graphics won't kick in without a monitor connected. I am not able to physically connect a monitor to this machine, nor a dummy plug, and so I am looking for a way to keep my integrated graphics on even outside of RDP. Currently the application I am running on my machine, a 3D accelerated one, will stop functioning correctly when I quit my RDP session and the display reverts back to "Display device on: VGA".

So the question is if I can keep the "Unknown Monitor on RPUDD Chained DD" active even when RDP is closed.

Thank you.

Multiple RDS servers in one domain

Hi

We are trying to create a new setup using Windows Server 2012 R2 where customers rent their own server. In this setup we will make all servers members of the same domain and then seperate the users by Groups and OU's.

The problem that I am facing is that since every customer has a specific need for performance, storage, applications etc. we cannot really just create a big RDS farm with a lot of powerful servers, but instead we have to create a RDS-server for each customer.

Now my question is how to do this in the right way. My first idea was to make a complete single server RDS setup for each customer where the roles installed by a standard RDS deployment is installed on each server which is then assigned a public IP and a FQDN for the customer to connect to. But will this work if they are all members of the same domain and how do we control licensing if we want to host the RD Licensing role on another server in the domain?

Requirement to enable more than two concurrent RDP sessions on multiple Windows Server 2012

$

I have an existing Remote desktop licensing server, which has users CALs for server 2008. Now I have some windows server 2012 R2, where more than 2 concurrent RDP connections are required.

What I understand that I will need to install RDS server roes on all my Widows Server 2012 and I will need to have at least one RD licensing server to install RDS CALS, that’s all.

If it is correct, the questions is : Can I use my existing license server to add my newly purchased version 2012 RDS user CALs or I will need a new licensing server?

If it is not correct, then what else I need

I appreciate your detail step by step

Thanks

I would like to know how to publish a shortcut only (not a program) by RemoteApp.

The shortcut is actually RDP to another Terminal Server.

There is an application in place that works fine on Windows 7 client using WEBFeed.

How to make this work?

Thx.

RDP Client Issue

Hi all

We have a strange issue with the Microsoft RDP Client - Every day at some point a user will contact us with this and its driving me insane.

What happens is - the User will click the RDP link on the desktop Enter their password and hit enter - what happens then is the program minimizes to the taskbar ,cannot be maximized and I have to kill the mstc process in Task manager and either log off , restart and or delete the registry key MSLICENSING

Its not happening with everyone but it happens on a daily basis  - Terminal Server is 2008 R2 and all clients are Window 7

The users have a shortcut on their desktop to resourses in another office using the format \\192.168.100.100\Server\Share\

I cant help feeling this issue is attached to this as , when one works the other doesnt and vice-versa  only a restart will get both working . If the remote desktop session is open , users clicking the Resouirses link get the circular "Working" Icon and the link never opens

There are no relating events either on the local client or the Terminal Server and it has me stumped

really appreciate some help or guidance of what to try

Thanks

James
