RDS 2012-RD Gateway Manager wont open from central RDS server manager

Hi

I am trying to access the RD Gateway manager from my central RDS server which happens to be my connection broker. In my list of RDS servers, If I right click the gateway and select RD Gateway Manager I get:

"The following management tool could not be opened: C:\Windows\system32\tsgateway.msc. Verify that RD Gateway Manager has been installed as part of the Remote Server Administration Tools, that the credentials provided have access to run the tool on the local  computer, and then try running the tool again.

On the central broker server I checked C:\Windows\system32\tsgateway.msc and this does not exist. Direct on the Gateway server tsgateway.msc does exist and loads up fine. Just seems to be not installed on the central server. I did try copying tsgateway.msc over to the central server but this didn't work.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

thanks

Change published FQDN for 2012 R2 RDS

I have Windows Server 2012 R2 (single server hosting all the roles for RDS). I'm using RDS for publishing RemoteApps for both internal and external users. External users connect to remote.company.com and I have certificate from public ca (issued to remote.company.com). Active Directory is company.local.

When external users connect through the rds gateway and run remoteapp they receive this warning message that is caused by fqdn mismatch

I tried to use this script to change fqdn to match remote.company.com and it does that but after that external users cannot open remoteapps anymore. Internally they work.

https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Change-published-FQDN-for-2a029b80

I get this error in eventlog:

The user "COMPANY\username", on client computer "xx.xx.xx.xx", did not meet resource authorization policy requirements and was therefore not authorized to resource "remote.company.com". The following error occurred: "23002".

If I change the published fqdn back to rds.company.local remoteapps starts to work again but with certificate error.

How can I fix this?

Hello there, first of all thank you for answers.

host was good for month now it started crashing. we replaced with new hardware Host. file server and applications database migrated successfully with freshly installed 2012 r2.

now, how would I transfer  2012 R2 Terminal server RDS per User CAL's to another new Terminal server  ?

Terminal01 to Terminal02 , once this successfully done, I would be killing the Terminal01 RDS.

I would really thank you if anyone know the answer to this

Remote Desktop Connection Manager 2.7 on high resolution screens

$

hi, i just got a lenovo yoga which has a 3200x1900 resolution screen.  rdp does not render the desktop big enough on a high resolution screen and is unusable.  I was happy to find rdcm 2.2 handles the high resolution fine. but when i upgraded to rdcm 2.7, the remote desktop is much to small to be usable again.

I have played with resolution setting in rdp/rdcm but the problem is the desktop icons are just too small.  I finally back-rev'd to 2.2

does anyone know how i can report this bug to the developer?  or if you know of a way to make 2.7 it work on high resolution screen....

thanks in advance

to be clear, the problem is that on a 3200x1900 screen, the size of the icons in the rdp session is so small its hard to read them.  if i play around with the rdp resolution, i am only making the desktop bigger or smaller, the icons are not scaling to that.  This is different in rdcm 2.2.  in 2.2, the icons are scaled up on a large desktop, making them usable.

automate RemoteApp icon placement on Windows 7

hi,

any suggestion for RemoteApp icon placement on Windows 7 client Desktop created in Start menu.

Is it doable? Spoke to Microsoft on another case related to RDS 2012. They don't have any solution for this.

Did somebody try? Or the only solution is to distribute an instruction to user for find the icon in Start menu and manually copy it?

Thx.

2012 R2 RD Session Host Domain Users Cannot Change Password

$

I set up a Windows 2012 R2 Session Host as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2833839 and joined it to the domain.  Now, users are unable to change their password. When they log in to the RDSH and "ctrl-del-end", they are given the change password dialog, but they are told that their password "doesn't meet complexity requirements" even if it does.  I suspect the issue is related to the fact that there is no "session collection" per se and that the "connection broker" role is not installed.  Is there any way around this?  The end game would be to have them log into this RDSH and be able to change their password to conform with the domain password policy

2012 R2 User profiles are multiplying user, user.000, user.001

This is a new 2012 R2 server and the user profiles are multiplying user, user.000, user.001 or user, user-backup-0, user-backup-1.

The server was working fine for about a month and then the profile issue started.

I'm now getting 1 user that is now getting a Temporary profile when she logs in.  I checked the registry and there are no .bak listings in the user profile section.

The event viewer only mentions 1 error about the user getting the Temp Profile.

Windows Update disabled on Terminal Services Server

No matter which administrative account I use, local or domain, Windows Update displays a "Windows Update is managed by your system administrator" message.

  • I have attempted to use the /admin switch when connecting to the server.
  • I have executed change user /install at the command prompt.
  • I have attempted to run from a console directly attached to the server.

I still cannot apply the updates.  The last update was in July 2014 and I need Windows Server 2008 SP2 installed for an application upgrade.  I did not install or configure this server.  The admin that did is no longer with the company and is not available for support.

Any advice is appreciated.

RDS (2012 R2, Per User) client issues after moving from TS Licesning (Win 2K3, Per Device)

$

I run a XenApp environment (mixed Presentation Server 4.5, XA6.5, XA7.6... I know).

I've somewhat recently moved our RDS/TS licensing from an old 2K3 TS licensing vm that needed to go to a 2012 R2 RDS licensing vm.

The 2K3 vm ran with a Per Device mode, and the 2012 R2 vm is using a Per User model.

RDS is working fine as far as I can tell - handing out licenses to their RD Session hosts, in the proper security group which has the ability to Read/Write the MSLicensing user attributes (Terminal Server License Servers). By GPO, I am telling (and they are applying) my XenApp servers to use their new RDS Licensing server and with a Per User model. The issue Iam seeing is this:

On a give XenApp server, the eventID 1011 - TerminalServicesRemoteConnectionManager

The remote session could not be established from remote desktop client computername because its temporary license has expired.

When I hit the Details tab,

Windows Server 2003 - Terminal Server Per Device CAL Token.

Which then results in having to remove the MSLicensing registry key. Which is annoying. Anyone else run into this after moving licensing servers and/or models? Feedback would be awesome, danke!

Weird Issue with session collection creation

Hello everybody,

While building a fully redundant RDS infrastrcutre I cam across this issue

While creating the session collection through Server Management on Windows Server 2012 R2 I get the following error:

"Unable to configure the RD Session Host server - Invalid Operation".

Here is a detailed spec of the environment:

- 2 RDS brokers connected in HA mode to a Cluestered SQL Instance

- 2 RDS license servers that are correctly configured on the session hosts

- 3 RDS Session Hosts

All are Windows Server 2012 R2

I have checked the Event logs also and everything I do not see any issues, the session hosts have correct communication between one another and to the license and rd  broker servers.

At this point I am really lost.

Anybody have any ideeas about such a ambiguous error?

Thank you!

In My IT-infra, there is multiple machines that is out my Office network & Domain..

Can we join these machines in domain via Direct Access implementation ? or for implementing Direct Access we required to join those non domain & out of office network machine to Domain first ?

secondly, can we implement the Direct access without any public certificate purchase, and without any IPV6 configuring in internal network, machines and in servers .currently i am using IPv4  IP on all Machines & Servers.

I have gone through the Direct Access Technet guide but i feel very complex document there ...can you please brief me about direct access implementation in simpale way, i want to implement direct access to join the internet based client machines  to domain and manage via/for SCCM ...

Set domain as CustomRdpProperty

$

Hi,

I've been struggling for a while with 2012 R2 RDS deployments to negate the need for users to enter their domain when signing in.

I've customised the RDWeb so that domain is not needed to sign in to Web Access, using this guide:

http://msfreaks.wordpress.com/2014/07/22/properly-removing-the-domain-prefix-requirement-from-rd-web-access-2012-r2/

However, users still have to enter DOMAIN\username in RDC.

If I edit the .rdp file in notepad and add "username:s:DOMAIN\", it works - users are prompted for username and password, but the domain is pre-populated. (NB. I have also seen in http://www.donkz.nl/files/rdpsettings.html that"domain:s:" is an RDP property, but it has never worked in any way for me.)

I run:

Get-RDSessionCollection | Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration -CustomRdpProperty "use multimon:i:0`nusername:s:DOMAIN\"

Get-RDSessionCollection | Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration | fl

...shows that the property has been added correctly. I also see it in the registry at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal       Server\CentralPublishedResources\PublishedFarms. However, after an IISRESET, the property does not make it into the RDP file generated by RDWeb.

How can I add this seemingly simple property?
