Good afternoon everyone;
Once again I've hit a wall in deploying RD services. The scenario is as stated:
A non-administrator domain user is trying to log into one of the pooled virtual desktops (running windows 7).
Said user gets prompted from windows security to login with their domain credentials; but instead of being directed to the Virtual Desktop, this user is redirected to a second logon session for the actual server.
IE: User\Administrator has a logged in session where he/she see's server manager, with Hyper V etc all running.
[Please note: When User\Administrator attempts to log into the remote desktop services that account is redirected to one of the pooled VMs. As well both the Administrator and non-admin accounts are on the access list for the pooled vms in the settings of the golden template, and in the usergroup of the collection]
When User\Non-Administrator has logged in they just see another copy of Server 2012 running with the same "Data Retrieval Failure" error on all the server roles.
While checking the event viewer the series of verbose/error codes were as such.
Verbose 1301: Connection Broker Received the non-admin's request for redirection
Error 1296: Connection Broker Client failed while getting redirection packet from Connection Broker
Error 1306: Connection Broker Client Failed to redirect the user User\non-admin.
Now I went though the troubleshooting illustrated here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee890979(WS.10).aspx
It's not a network issue, since I can ping from the server straight through to my router, user desktop, firewall, primary DNS, Alternate DNS, and all the little NIC's inbetween.
Has anyone else encountered this issue?
I have a Windows 2008 Server that I have been connecting to once a month remotely to apply OS updates. Often, I reboot that server and it uses auto-logon to login and run an application.
Today, I rebooted the server and when I try to connect with RDP, I get the login prompt and enter my credentials, I see a few expected messages fly by on the host OS (the last one I see is the word Welcome), but then the screen goes black.
The apps on the server are running successfully because our applications can connect to them, we just can't logon to the desktop of the Windows Server 2008.
I made no configuration changes (I NEVER do) other than to apply the latest Windows Server updates.
I would prefer not to drive to the computers location, or try to coordinate a time to have the server hosting company assist me with troubleshooting; but is there anything else I can do? Any ideas about what might cause this?
We need advisory on ThinClient licensing for the below scenario.
Scenario:
We need to install Linux based thin client set up at our premises and following services will be installed on server:
So what will be our licensing needs whether we required an RDS CAL with Windows Server CAL only or we need VDA rights (for thin client) with RDS & Win Svr CAL ?
Since we also have N numbers of RDS CAL available and installed in Citrix Server to access the Application. So, can we use these CAL and install them in “Remote Desktop Licensing Server” simultaneously.

We are trying to implement RDS to replace our aging Citrix Metaframe XP farm. The only functionality we need at this time is to give users a couple of applications to run remotely via RDS Web Access. We don't use (and not planning to use in the near future) Remote Desktop or VDI fuctionality. Is there a way to remove the Remote Desktop option from the top of the page on RDS Web Access, and just leave RemoteApp Programs one? I see an option to remove RDP icon from RemoteApp page, but can't seem to find a way to remove the link to this option all together.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
So we have a single server 2008 r2 machine that is running RDS.
We are looking to upgrade this to Server 2012 R2, and from what I have been reading my best way would probably to rebuild.
My main question is what about the cals. As there will be only one RDS server, am I correct that I would have to get the 2012 R2 cals as you cannot "upgrade" the 2008 r2 cals
Hi,
I have installed and configured windows server 2008r2 with remote desktop service but my old thin client not connecting to it. The other OS like - windows 7 and windows 8 is connecting properly and working fine. I have unchecked the Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication option in rdp setting but still old version rdp thin client not connecting. Kindly suggest any solution..

Hello,
I'm performing an VDI, and I like to have two different networks, one with the RDS servers (Virtualization Hosts, Licensing, Connection Broker and Web access), and one with the Domain Controllers. I have a Firewall between the networks. Can I do it? How? Which ports should he allow?Hi there
We have 2 x 2012 R2 Session hosts running and am using redirected profile disks which works a treat apart from windows search indexing.
session hosts have the windows search service installed and I have checked the the mapiph.dll file is present.
When a users logs off the search index is deleted so that when the user logs on and launches outlook the OST file starts indexing from scratch.
Users with small OST files don't notice however senior company directors that have large OST files can take the whole day thus resulting in incompleted searches.
Urgent help would be most appreciated
Hi Folks,
I am working to implement RDS in my environment. I have created additional pages to be displayed.
Here is what I am looking to do.
1. Drop the display of Folders on the Web Access
2. Published RemoteApps with a folder name
3. Map the "Folder Name" to specific Page.
For example, If a an app has a folder name RoomMaster, I would like the app to be displayed on the RoomMaster Page, etc.
Any insight if this is possible would be greatly appreciated. :)
Thank You!
HI,
I am currently trying to allow my computer to have its drives visible when I connect to a remote computer. However when I go to the local resources tab. Once I click the "more" button, nothing happens. No error message comes up.
Im running as administrator, windows 7 professional OS.
Any Ideas?
Hello,
I have a problem with ' to many' logins which are needed for the Remote Desktop Gateway I'm using. I have looked around the forum and found two post which are close to my case (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a0814222-e8b0-4f1f-a4ab-c79519dd20fa/remote-desktop-gateway-and-webaccess-deployment-multiple-logon-prompts?forum=winserverTS and https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/526af0a6-6bf1-4fff-befc-3ab121de866e/need-to-enter-credentials-three-times-to-take-rdp-of-users-desktop?forum=winserverTS)
The difference I have is that I'm using the RDG to serve multiple domains. Therefor I decided to put it into a workgroup as the proposed solution above (SSO) would work for one domain only, not for the others.
Is there any way to skip the RDG credential popup (especially since you authenticate on the website already).
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Regards,
Kees

Hi,
I'm asking some help, i have problem with the filtering with RDWEB. We try many things but we can't find the problem. We got always this error, we are using RDS 2012 R2, but we have have 2 domains 2008 R2.

An account failed to log on.We've just deployed a bunch of Windows 7 VDIs on our 2012 R2 Hyper-V environment and are looking for a way to determine which of them have current user activity, much like we were able to do in our old Server 2003 Terminal Services (via the Terminal Services Manager). Using the Configuration Manager we can establish Remote Control sessions to the VDIs but we are looking for a way to see if a user is logged in as well as if there is any current activity. Is there a way to do this natively or are there any third party apps that provide this functionality?
Hello,
is there a limitation (of quantity) in trial rds cals that i can use or i can use as many as i want during the trial period ?
My goal is to allow a single standalone 2012 R2 system RDP access from more than 2 users simultaneously, in an environment that doesn't have any other existing servers at all (very small office/business). Remote users simply need access to the system for utilizing a finance application when they aren't on location with access to shared files.
User accounts are all local accounts - no Active Directory role installed/configured as of now (I attempted configuring a domain, but abandoned it when the system encountered a BSOD after every reboot as soon as the role had been installed - didn't have the necessary time to troubleshoot).
I've installed the terminal services license server role, activated the license server, installed a terminal services per-user license key.
Since there's no domain, the normal management tools don't function, and I have to configure things from the registry.
I set the remote desktop licensing mode by changing the value of this key (set from regedit):
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\RCM\Licensing Core > LicencingMode = 4
Also tried to configure the system to point to itself as the specified license server based on a comment from this TechNet article:
reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\TermService\Parameters\LicenseServers" /v SpecifiedLicenseServers /t REG_MULTI_SZ /d "192.168.1.50" /f
However, it doesn't appear that remote connections pull from the activated license just yet, and I'm still limited to 2 logins. I'm not very familiar with this process, but I believe all the steps listed for configuring the license server and RD session host server are completed here...
Is there something I've missed? Or is this even possible? If I absolutely must use a domain, it wouldn't be too much trouble to install the HyperV role (since best practices are clearly already being thrown aside), and configure a VM a the DC, and perhaps another as the license server if need be.
I appreciate any help or guidance that can be provided!
Hi Friends,
We are facing unique issue on couple of Windows 2008 R2 servers. Remote Desktop for internal network users is working while for external users it is not working. Network team is able to see requests coming
on the firewall but they don't see the response going back. I also setup wireshark packet filtering on the server and I can see SYN packets coming on the server but server is not responding back with SYN/ACK. There are two interfaces on the server and none
of the interface is generating response. Below is my packet capturing where we can see retransmission (Sorry my account hasn't been verified yet so couldn't paste packte cap).
I verified logs also but I couldn't find anything suspicious. I also checked for this bug but couldn't generate the behaviour.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Vj
HI,
I have configured RDS on windows server 2012 R2. Configured RDP port 3390 as i am already using 3389 for another service.
While accessing via remote desktop it work properly X.X.X.X:3390. but now I am not getting how to configure same for remote APP. as the apps are still sending request on port number 3389.
Thanks in Advance.
