I expected the object to be gone from AD? When i right click and select delete, i get:

Should i select "delete subtree server control" so as to remove all instances of the server in AD?

Also, can you use ADSI Edit to verify all RDS traces are gone?

Missing remotefx 3D adapter in Hyper-v Server 2012 R2

I have installed Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 and have installed all the available roles as can be seen in pic2.

I have also installed GPU ATI HD7750 and installed its drivers to the HOST as you can see also in the pic2 below.

Now the problem is that I can't seem to add RemoteFX 3D adapter to my Win 8.1 ENT evaluation VM.

Could someone please guide me in the right direction?

RDP 6.3.9600 (Windows 8.1) to Server 2008 R2 with session broker not working

$

Hi All,

Ever since I ran the update for 8.1 my Surface is not able to remote desktop to our Terminal Servers using Session Broker. Our RD Infrastructure is setup with 3 x RD Session Hosts and 1 x Sesison Broker. We have a common DNS name for all 3 RD Session Hosts (remote.<contoso>). If I happen to land on the session server with the least amount of users it works but if I happen to need to be redirected to another server I get the generic 'Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer' error. Now each Session Host has 2 NICs (an internal private LAN NIC and one with a Public IP Address). Both IP address are set to be sent when doing the relocation and here is where I thing the issue it. I only have this issue when connection from the LAN. When I connect externally the redirection works. It seems to be that the new version of the RDP client (6.3.9600) doesn't handle multiple IP address when redirecting while the older one does and because the public IP address is the smaller number that is the one that gets used first when it attempting the redirection and hence I don't have the issue when connecting externally

I could be wrong with that assumption but that seems to be the only explanation for it that I have seen while investigating it for the last few days.

Has anyone else come across this issue with the Windows 8.1 and 2008 R2 Session Broker?

2012 R2. We use a JBoD device hooked to server via a SAS cable. The server this JBoD device was attached to died and now the new 2012 R2 install will not see the physical disks in the JBoD so we can either attach the virtual disk or nothing. Even the hyper-v host does not see the physical drives. How do i reset the disks in the JBoD in orde that the new install will see the drives?

RDS in a resource forest model

Scenario:

AD Forest 1: Contoso.com – Has RDS deployment with RDSH, RDWEB, RDCB roles. No RD licensing and gateway role

AD Forest 2: Adatum.com - User accounts who want to access remoteapp from contoso.com

>Contoso.com has an one-way Outgoing forest trust with Adatum.com.

>Contoso.com has a Universal security group called “AdatumUsers” with Adatum.com users as members.

>Session collection has been created with “AdatumUsers” group having permission.

Problem:

Adatum.com users are able to login to the RD Web Access portal in Contoso.com BUT when they launch one of the published RemoteApp, they are shown RDP login box, after entering credentials, a RDP welcome screen appears, then a “Access is Denied” error message is shown and the session closes when the user clicks OK.

We see three 20499 event with message “ Remote desktop services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server <Server 1>  for user <User1>” followed by event 42 indicating the session is closed.

In the AD server, we see “Failure Audit” logs for these attempts.

Has anyone seen this issue before and what is the solution?

RDS Users Losing Default Printer at Login - Default set to RDS Local Printer Object(s)

We have users connecting to WIN2K8R2 RDS (Terminal Server) from WYSE thin clients. We recently started seeing an issue where the user's default printer is changed at login to a printer local to the RDS Server (PDF printer, OneNote Printer etc). The user's printers show up, they can set them as default again, but they are losing thier printer as default when they login for some reason.

We are not trying to map printers through from their client. Their default printer is installed manually on their RDS profile by browsing the printer directory or the print server \\servername\printername.

RDS Host Application and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > PrintService > Admin log shows a lot of "Event ID 823 Changing the default printer". "The default printer was changed to Print to PDF,winspool,FILE:. See the event user data for context information".

Can anyone provide advice on how we can correct this? It's becoming more than annoyance now.

Thank you!

RDP (Remote Desktop) to Windows 10 without passwords not possible anymore. Bug or feature?

After upgrading two of my machines to Windows 10 (Education N clean install and Pro N upgrade from Win8.1), I was not able to set up Remote Desktop as I was used to since Windows 7 (maybe this was possible before, too).

I am used to configure Windows to allow RDP connections as a user without password (home usage only). Apparently this is not working anymore after upgrading to Windows 10. (I have enabled this by modifying secpol.msc 's security policies. Further informations provided if needed).

With the "no password" setup i get immediatly disconnected by the local machine which seems to auto login by itself after connecting via RDP. The only solution I managed to find so far was to set up a password.

Is this a bug or a feature?

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

I got a strange issue with RDS environment, On one fine morning , we are not able to view the pooled managed collections under collections tree, however if we click on collection you can see it as unknown( below screenshot ). I am able to manage other pooled collection apart from one with 140 VMs with the help of PowerShell. Apart from this everything is running as it should be , however now we are not able to manage it and this is major problem that we are not able to manage settings.

This checked till now.

1.       All Pooled Managed VDIs are showing unknown.

2.       Only  One Pooled Managed Collection having issue.

3.       Collections are working and behaving normally, Only one Collection with 140 VMs having issue while updating the collection and rest of the collection are accessible and working fine from command line.

4.       No changes in RDSCB SQL database, no job are pending to execute in DB as well.

5.       No Major events related to VDI connection broker.

Getting Below error while managing with powershell.

Hi,

We are using VDI (Virtual Desktop Interface) feature in windows 2012 server. One of my client who are using windows 8.1 complaining that he couldn't login to VDI server. The error is;

"Remote Desktop Connection: This computer can't verify the identity of the RD gateway "servername" Its not safe to connect to server that cannot be identified. Contact your Network Administrator".

All other clients which are using windows 7 machine are successfully connect to VDI server, but windows 8.1 machine couldn't connect it with the same server.

Please help and provide solution.

Lose ability to RDP to Pooled Win7 Desktops

$

Hello,

I have created a pooled read only desktop collection of Win7 desktops.   After creation they work fine launching from RDWeb.   The next day I try to launch them and I get the error "the computer cannot connect to the remote computer" from RDWeb.   I test directly RDPing to them and the same thing.  I am able to ping them by name.    If I go to the event log on these desktops this error seems to correlate to my attempt to login:

The RDP protocol component x.224 detected an error 0 in the protocol stream and the client was disconnected

ScRegSetValueExW call failed for Start:  Access is denied

If I go to HyperV mgr and revert to the snapshot for each pooled read only desktop once they boot I can again log in via RDWeb or straight RDP.

Any ideas why this would be happening?  Appreciate the input.

Cathy

Using RSA SecurID for 2-factor authentication with RD Gateway 2012 R2

We have Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop (RD) Gateway servers within an DMZ and a combination of 2008, 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 terminal servers (session hosts) on the internal network.

Access to the terminal servers in the internal network using the RD connection client is via the RD Gateway servers.

We do not have RD Web Access or connection brokers deployed.

Does RD Gateway Support RSA SecurID without TMG?

Thanks,

Darren

Remote Desktop Gateway Issue

We have a Remote Desktop Gateway server running in our DMZ with 3 published apps.  From within our network as well as most external networks, users can successfully connect to the gateway and then access the published apps.  However, we have one user in a remote network which has an issue.  They can successfully connect to the gateway, login and view available apps.  When they click on an app, it launches the Remote Desktop Client(8.1) which then tries to connect.  If I do a NETSTAT I notice the client is attempting to connect to the app with the internal address which is 192.168.1.5 instead of going through the SSL tunnel.  It of course cannot reach that address and simply locks up.

The odd thing is that another computer on the same client network can successfully connect.  The different is they are using Remote Desktop Client(7.1).

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hyper-V GPU Configuration - NVidia GRID K2 for on Microsoft Windows 2012 Hyper-V Core Server

I am configuring a GPU for group of Hyper-V Core servers.

I am following this guide MS guide:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/16652.remotefx-vgpu-setup-and-configuration-guide-for-windows-server-2012.aspx

I am trying to get the NVidia drivers up to date first. So far I have run the Dell SUU which is reporting that Video_Driver__8CYK1_Win32_346.52.AD0.exe is the one that needs to be use for the update.

I have tried to update the driver through Dell SUU (Server Update Utility) and also from within the package itself but errors out and the server is rebooted.

Doing some research I have found the following:

https://gridforums.nvidia.com/default/topic/281/grid-k2-on-microsoft-windows-2012-hyper-v-core-server/

But then discovered this post which seems to be discussing how to update the drivers for the NVidea card as well through nv_dispi.inf

http://blog.ittoby.com/2013/02/installing-nvidia-consumer-drivers-on.html

I have extracted Video_Driver__8CYK1_Win32_346.52.AD0.exe but I can't find any .inf there for me to use with the pnputil.

Anyone has any suggestions? Or ran into the same issue? This is a core version and can't get a full deployed.

Find applications installed without Install Mode on Windows 2012 R2 RDS

$

We installed several applications on Windows 2012 R2 RDS servers and forgot to change the mode to Install mode with "change user /install" or using the Control Panel wizard.

My understanding is that any app that uses Windows Installer will do the mode switch automatically.  Therefore, is there any method or tool to list applications that ended up installing in execute mode (i.e. NOT in install mode), presumably because it didn't use Windows Installer?

Alternatively, is there any method or tool to detect if an application's setup program uses Windows Installer?

It would be very helpful if we can limit the number of applications needing uninstall/reinstall.

RDS 2012 - configuration/deployment questions

$

Hi,

I am in the process of building an RDS deployment with Session Broker and Session Host servers (no Gateways). That being said I would like to deploy the following servers:

                            1. RDSCB01 (Connection Broker)
                            2. RDSCB02 (Connection Broker)
                            3. RDSHost01 (Host)
                            4. RDSHost02 (Host)

I would like to configure the brokers in HA - I don't have external Load Balancers just native Microsoft can be used for this project.

Connection Broker: There are multiple articles on how to setup 2 Broker servers in HA. Example: http://thewolfblog.com/2014/02/02/configuring-ha-for-the-remote-desktop-connection-broker/

A few questions:

If I configure DNS RR for the brokers if one the servers is down then there is a potential that users will continue to go the server that's not available - correct?

-To avoid that can I get the Broker servers configured through MS native NLB? The Broker servers are going to be VMs running from Hyper-V nodes. If so, can someone provide a "How to guide" that explains the process.

Session Host Collections - Multiple Servers

I would like to create a collection that will include RDSHost1 and RDSHost2, as far as I know natively you can configure both servers to be Load Balanced through the deployment Wizard (In Overview, right-click RD Session Host and click Add RD Session Host Servers.)

How is that going to work if one of the Host Servers that belong to that collection is down? Are new connections going to be sent to any of the available servers?

Problems with NLB settings in Terminal Services 2012

$

Hi,

We have problems with NLB settings in RDS 2012.

The situation is as follow:

We have 3 terminal servers 2012 (2 session host) and 1 (connection broker)

We have 1 collection and in it are the two session hosts

Each session host has two network cards. two subnets (172.30.Xx and 192.168.x.x) and the session broker with card 1 (192.168.x.x) (Now it's just 1 after doing many tests but before it also had 2 as the host session )

in test situation, when using only one subnet, the collection and the session broker and RoundRobin (without NLB) we have no problems. But it is necessary for us to have 2 subnets and one NLB cluster.

In the subnet 192.168.X.X we configured an NLB cluster ip 192.x.20. The cluster is multicast IGMP. The cluster with some configurations has been unstable but now is not.

Our customers are Thin client. When we are going to connect to the cluster IP (192.168 X.20)

What we see in the logs are all these situations:

1. Sometimes connects to the cluster IP (192.168.x.20). It connects quickly.

2. Sometimes connects to the "real ips" of the host but the 192.168.x.x subnet, NO to the cluster IP. It connects overall good.

3. But sometimes appears in the logs that it connects to another subnet IPS that have nothing to do with the cluster, that is the actual host IP subnet but (172.30.x.x). In this case the system has many delays when connecting.

Even 1 min

Although the thinclient I configure to be connected to 192.168.x.20 (IP of the cluster), it really connects randomly where it wants and how it wants ...

Thank you very much for everything.

2012R2 RDS 2 session limit - what am I missing

$
0
0

I have a 2012R2 Standard install.

Added the RDS roles. This server is licensing, broker, web access and session host.

License server is activated and has 12 RDS Per-User licenses installed.

I have 1 collection, which is just RDP to this server: (pic to follow)

Everything looks like its working. I downloaded the RDP file from the rdweb site. If I connect via a Win 7 box, I see the "connected to remoteapp and desktop connections" popup.

I see in the license server that it has issued 4 of the 12 licenses (which is correct for now): (pic to follow)

config: (pic to follow)

But when the 3rd person tries to connect, it just hangs in "securing remote connection" and never connects (doesn't give the "which user to bounce" message either).

I tried spinning up another session host temporarily. Same deal - I could see up to 2 people connected to it, but the 3rd just hung. I even added the connection broker/rdweb roles and only used the license server from this existing server (thinking this might be a connection broker issue).

Any ideas?
