RDP Issues

$

I am running Windows 10 PRO.

I set up RDP on my host computer.

I downloaded the RDP app and installed it on my ASUS T300FT tablet

If the host and remote tablet are on the same network all works as expected.

If I move the tablet to a different network it cannot find the host computer.

Both the host computer and tablet are connected to the internet.

After failing to connect, I added the Port to the host IP address and it still failed.

I thought that maybe I have a blocked port but I am using Norton Security 2016 and it works on the same Network but not when both items are on different networks.

Thanks for any help given.

Windows Search EDB file very large on Server 2012 R2 RDS

Hello experts.

We have hundreds of users on 2012 R2 RDS session host servers and have a non-stop problem with the Windows Search .edb file growing extremely large and filling up all disk space.

This looks to be a major problem for IT departments everywhere, based on a few seconds of searching around.

The main items we have in place to try and combat this problem:

1.) We have enabled the "DisableSearchBackoff" and added the Corecount registry key found in this post:

http://www.cyberdrain.com/?p=116

2.) We have a batch file that runs the commands found below on a nightly basis, which defragments the search index database.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2838018

3.) We have moved the index from C volume to dedicated drives.

The problem is, no matter how much space we add, the files just keep growing. Is the only resolution to add a massive volume to each session host for this file to grow as large as it wants? I have seen many threads on various forums where people have reached out to Microsoft support on multiple occasions for this issue and the work around is to rebuild or defrag the database. I know there are lots of these threads out there but I'm curious if anyone has found a solution yet. Thanks in advance.

How to log off a user after closing an application on a terminal server through Powershell?

We have a few users that only uses one application.
In group policy I changed the shell to a powershell script and it starts the application perfectly.
But when I close the appliation nothing happens (of course).

Does anybody know how I can do this?
Perhaps provide a working script?

Thanks in advance!

RD Gateway Manager Crashing adding a RAP

I've set up a HA Connection Broker cluster, and in order to get the web gateway working again, I need to set up a new RAP policy that specifies the RD Broker RR Address, but every time I try, when I click 'Add' in 'User Groups' (And anywhere else in the MMC, it seems), the MMC crashes with the following output:

Problem signature:

As far as I can tell from searching, it seems to be .NET that's crashing, but I haven't found any solutions. All three servers (Web Gateway and both Connection Brokers) are fully patched.

has anyone else sen this and/or have any ideas how to either fix it or maybe some kind of workaround?

Server 2012 - The program did not start on the remote computer for Non Domain Admins

I have deployed a RemoteApp from Server 2012. If run the RemoteApp as a user who is a member of the Domain Admins group it works correctly. If I run the RemoteApp as a user who is not a member of the Domain Admins group I get a message stating "The program did not start on the remote computer. For assistance, contact your system administrator."

If I log onto the Terminal Server and receive a full desktop, the application runs for for all users. There appears to be some difference on how security is handled through RemoteApp versus receiving a full desktop. I have searched over 30+ articles now and all seem to say the error occurs when the application is reliant on a shared or mapped drive which has not yet mapped. This application does not rely on a mapped drive. Thank you in advance for your help.

Open Doc File with Word via Remoteapp

Server 2012 with RDS. We publish office to some client pc's that do not have office installed locally. Is it possible to associate office files like doc, xls and so on so that when the user clicks to open an office file, the file will use the published office to open said files? I looked it the file associations of the published office apps on the server. Checked the boxes for doc and docx, updated the connection and tried to open a doc -> opened with wordpad and not the published word app. Is this possible?

Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server Event ID 20499

I keep getting Event ID 20499 "Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server \\SERVERNAME for user USERNAME" in our event logs for multiple servers that are running 2012 R2

I noticed that when this happens the user often is missing items that get applied via group policies such as desktop wallpapers and mapped drives.

I am also using the Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac that was release yesterday on another Mac computer and for certain users it won't launch the redirected folder that I specified when I get this Event ID 20499

I started to receive the following error on the client side when trying to go through a 2012 R2 gateway on 443 from win7. It is not every client. I get the following errors on a win7 box using RDC 8.1. I'm successful when connecting from a win2k12 machine.

I receive the following message on the win 7 box:

"Your computer cant connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer."

In the TerminalServices-ClientActiveXcore log, I receive the following errors:

RDP ClientActiveX has been disconnected (Reason= 50331674)

RDPClient_Gateway: An error was encountered when transitioning from AAStateCreatingOutChannel to AAStateError in response to 21 (error code 0x80072EFE).

RDPClient_Gateway: An error was encountered when transitioning from AAStateInitializingTunnel to AAStateError in response to 6 (error code 0x80072EFE).

Thoughts?

Slow Performance - User Profile Disks

$

Hi All,

I have an RDS setup using user profile disks. It's a VM in Azure. Size is A3 standard (4 CPU, 7GB RAM). OS Server 2012 R2. About 10 - 15 user connect.

The user prfile disks are located on a partition in a storage pool. Pool has 4 disks with 500 IOPS each.

I have some user complain it is slow. When I look at resource monitor the Logical disk where all the user profiles are stored always has a disk queue length of less than 1. When I look at Disk Activity and look at one of the user profile disks which is a .vhdx the Response Time (ms) is 30-80.

Could this be the reason for the slow?

Thanks

I need guidelines on how to go about achieving something.

I need to create a gpo that allows a group of domain users to be able to remote into computers within a particular organizational unit. ie. I want members of the group sales_remote_users to be able to connect to only the computers in the sales OU using remote desktop connection.

0xC000035B - Windows 7 to windows 2012 R2 Remote desktop gateway and Session Host

$

Hello,

I have an issue with a particular user that is receiving  the classic' the computer cant connect because the remote desktop gateway is currently unavailable' when accessing remoteap through RDWeb.

When I look into the RD gateway security logs, it has the '0xC000035B' 4625 error occurred during login. According to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2903333, it is rdp 8.0 forcing ntlmv1. I added the 'EnforceChannelBinding', and set it to '0' in the registry. I had the user confirm that they are using RDP 8.1 as well. However, still no luck. I might need to confirm that again among a few other things on the user side. The message he is receiving doesn't seem to coincide with the error on the gateway side. Anyway, I cant seem replicate it. I login successfully every time from multiple machines with his credentials.

I had him try multiple machines, and he claims he is seeing the same message from multiple machines.

I have read that it could be the 'lmcompatibilty' level set too low on his side in the registry.  Another user in his office can connect fine though with no issue.

Is there anything besides the 'lmcompatility' level that would cause this? The user is on win 7 machine.

I need to get some more detailed information about these win7 boxes he has tested from.

I'll add to this question if find anything out. I just wanted to see if am missing anything.

Windows Server 2012 RDG connection unsuccessful

$

I have a following setup (all machines run Windows Server 2012 with latest Windows Updates)

 - 1x Remote Desktop Connection Broker, this machine runs the RDWeb application too (TSBroker)
 - 1x Remote Desktop Gateway Server (TSGW)
 - 3x Remote Desktop Session host machine (TSAPP01-TSAPP03

The network publication is the following:

 - TCP 80 / TCP 443 -> TSBroker
 - UDP 3391 -> TSGW

My actual problem is I cannot connect to the farm via RDG with mstsc client, nor with RemoteApp, nor with a well-configured manual mstsc connection. I can reach authentication stage, I can enter the username and the password, but the client says "remote desktop gateway server is temporary unavailable". Things I checked/tried:

 - The connection between the farm and the client is good, client has no networking issue, DNS resolution is good
 - There is a turned on Windows Firewall on machines, but the Domain profile set up to Allow/Allow, so there is no Windows Firewall restriction between machines.
 - I tried to check all the logs on all machines during an unsuccessful login. Nothing written down, nor on broker, nor on gateway, nor on the session hosts. The only log i get about unsuccessful login is the following:

RDPClient_Gateway: An error was encountered when transitioning from AAStateInitializingTunnel to AAStateError in response to 6 (error code 0x800706BA).

I found near absolute nothing about this error.

There was a state when this system worked, but as it is a work-in-progress infrastructure, we had a temporary certificate on the servers. We reached that stage where we were able to replace these certificates with working ones. After it, we started experience that issues I describet above.

I do not know what is broken in this system. I have very light knowledges in Windows Server 2012, and nothing in Windows Server 2012 RDS. I would be happy for any real help what points where can I find a problem or a solution. As I am not too comfortable in this system, please be very specific, describe me required steps one-by-one, to make sure I doing things right.

I would be very thankful for your help.

Hello,

I have problem with RDS farm - smart card authentication. I will be very grateful for any kind of help ;)

My setup:

Dell Wyse t10 terminal - windows server 2012r2 rds farm (2 hosts servers).

Case 1 if user session doesn't exist, then they can login with smart card without any problems. Pin and certificate are provided from terminal.

Case 2 if user session exist and if their session is on the second server (for example terminal connected to terminal01 host, but their session is on terminal02 host), then windows try to login to the second one (this is of course how it should be), but user must to provide pin again...

thx in advance

RDP Client Flicker on Windows Server 2012 R2

I can't be the only one experiencing this issue.  When 2 people connect to our Windows 2012 R2 server, the 2nd person to connect has issues with their screen flickering continually and making it unusable. The first user has no visual impalement to their display.

After researching and playing with settings for over a week I re-enabled UAC on a whim and the issue is gone.  Why would UAC have any effect on a users RDP connection.  There should be no access issues, both users logged in have Administrator Privileges and experience no issues when they are on alone. Again disabling UAC and the issues are back.

UAC serves us no purpose considering the size of my company and offers only roadblocks to our processing.

I also try to fix windows update errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool as below, there are no errors found.

Save As dialog box does not show file list

$

Terminal Server 2012 R2.  'Save As' dialog box for one user does not show the file list.  The address bar shows the path, and there is a form box for the file name, and the user can save the file successfully.  But the space that should show the files in the chosen directory is blank.  There is no form box for the file list, it is simply the dialog box gray space -- which is to say, it's not that it looks like an empty folder, there is simply no form box displayed.

The 'Open' dialog box looks normal, showing the file list in the chosen folder.

I had the user log off of the Terminal Server and access it from a different PC, though I didn't expect that to make a difference, and it didn't.  I also logged on myself, and did not experience the same issue.  So it appears to be user-specific.

Is this a setting the user accidentally selected, or an error of some sort?

Thanks for any help.

User keeps getting a TEMP profile - The user does not have a profile on the server (C:\Users) or the Registry (ProfileList)

$

I have not been able to find a solution for this. I have a user using RDP to connect to a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1 to run an application. The user keeps getting a temporary profile and is unable to use the application on the server. All other users are able to access the server just fine. We have a mixture of roaming and local profiles. The users that connect to this server typically have local, but there are a few roaming that are working fine. I have checked in Advanced System Settings / Profiles / Settings for the users profile and it does not exist. There is not a folder for this user under C:\Users. I am also unable to locate anything under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList. I see all other users in the ProfileList, but not this user. I have tried to enable netlogon.log using Nltest /DBFlag:2080FFFF but do not see anything in that for the user either. The only error I see on the server is in the Application Log for the User Profile Service and there are two Errors (1511 & 1526). Any help is appreciated. Also, the server has been rebooted since this issue occurred to see if a simple reboot would help... unfortunately it did not.

RDS 2012 R2 certificate limitation?

$

0

I'm currently using an internal Active Directory certificate with all of the SANs included (9 total).  Everything seems to work fine thus far.  I want to switch to a 3rd party certificate in order to make the Firefox experience more streamlined.   Is the following limitation still a factor when using a SAN certificate vs. a wildcard certificate?

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn781533.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

This certificate approach works as long as you have five or fewer servers in your deployment. If you have more servers, you can’t use the Subject Alternate Name field (it is limited to just five servers). Instead, you need to get a wildcard certificate to cover all the servers in the deployment.

Thanks!
