Windows Server 2012, Remote Desktop Services - Disconnected session will not end when set to do so.

Using Windows Server 2012 Standard, in Remote Desktop Services I've configured the remote session to end, if the session is in a disconnected state for one minute.

However, after the user has closed the remote app. the session state status is 'Disconnected' and remains in that state without ending after one minute.  At this point, without ending the session, the user is unable to connect to the remote app without having someone having to manually logoff the session on the server.

These same configurations have also been set in Group Policy in Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Session Time Limits .  Also 'End session when time limits are reached' is enabled.

Still the session will not end when the status is disconnected.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Remote Desktop Server

Hello Guys, I have a big problem.

Today, it expired on 120 days of desktop licenses.
I had already installed the utilities package and therefor configured and active; However, the remote desktop now stopped working because it was non-configured Remote Desktop Management.
Searching the Internet I saw that to configure the DR for user would have to access the host by Server Manager -> Remote Desktop Services Manager, but was shown me a message that it found it impossible as it was not a domain user.

yet I found trying to have to install the role of Active Directory dominoes, and so I did, creating a new forest, and restarting the server.
Server Name: BS-ITACOM2012
Forest name: BS-ITACOM2012.Foresta
NetBIOS: BS-ITACOM20120
But now you can still access the management as it does not remain RDMS started the service in any way, essential because it is able to use the Remote Desktop Services.

Can someone help me?

Windows 2008 Terminal Server "user must change password at next logon" problem with Windows 7 client.

Hi,

I have a fully patched Windows 2008 SP2 Terminal Server and a fully patched Windows 7 client.

I have logged into the Windows 2008 SP2 Terminal Server server with a test account via RDC before.

When I try to log in via RDC to the 2008 TS with a test account which has been marked with the setting "User must change password at next logon" I get the RDC message "You must change your password before logging on the first time.  For assistance, contact your system administrator or technical support."  I need to force the user to change their password once it has been issued, any ideas on how this can be done?

Thanks,

Dan

Remote Desktop session disconnect

We have a number of thin clients and standard PC's that access a Windows 2012 R2 server using Remote Desktop.  Each of these sessions start a common program so that the client never sees a desktop on the server just the running program.  Our problem is that after a successful logon if the user walks away from the workstation and the connection sits idle for ten minutes (exactly ten minutes) the session disconnects and the user is required to ctrl-alt-delete to restart the session.  The application program is never affected it is still at the same spot when the user re-establishes a connection.

RDP into Black Screen then Disconnects 2012 R2

I have several servers that the last few weeks all randomnly have started causing connections via RDP to go to black screen for about 10-15 seconds then close the session.

I have checked roll up updates such as KB2887595 are installed, I can console into them from my VM Console, however RDP does not let me in unless a full Reboot occurs, sometimes multiple times.  The fix may be temporary for a few hours, but may quickly revert back from not allowing new connections to log in.

These servers are part of a collection farm, I have disconnect sessions set to 1 minute, idle set to 15 min, active set to never for the connection properties for these farms.

I am at my wits end, cause I have roughly 6-8 servers all behaiving the same way with roughly 600 users hitting this set of servers on a daily basis, this is overflowing my help desk guys and I need a fix or solution...like last week.

Please help!

RDS 2012 R2 wallpaperupdate (BgInfo) on two different servers

Hi,

I'm facing the problem, that if I'm logged on onto two different servers in our RDS farm the Wallpaper wich i get is overwritten.

As example: I login into Server A get the created BGInfo wallpaper where the infos about the server A are displayed

Then i Login into Server B and get a wallpaper from Server B . After a refresh on server A i get the wallpaer displayed  wich was created on Server B .

We are using normal roaming profiles.

What i found out is that on the share wich is used for the userprofil under \Profil data\AppData\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\CachedFiles the created wallpapers are stored.

How can i stopp this?

Under RDS 2088 R2 those files are only stored locally on the temporary userprofileC:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Temp\

Worst Office Performance on RDS Windows 2012 R2, Force to go back to RDS Windows 2008 R2

Hi,

Since the launch of RDS Windows 2012, we're experiencing very bad performance in most Office Applications.

We've try several version Office 2010, Office 2013 and Office 2016, but no result. Even installed the 64bit version.

especially with excel, copy and paste cells, office is not responding. We never had this in RDS Windows 2008 R2

We've tweak all the possibilities possible via group policy, like do not use hardware graphics accelerations, disable animations, etc.. all we can find and do to tweak Office and the RDP protocol, but nothing till today is sufficient.

Users on RDS 2008 R2 can copy more than 5000 cells in excel with no problems, but on RDS 2012 R2 they can hardly copy more than 200 cells and excel is then not responding for few minutes.

Does anybody have a solution for this, or is encountering the same problem as we do?

is Microsoft aware of this?

awaiting some feedback

Server 2012 R2 RDS unable to access APPS

  • New installation of 2012 in a new domain and RDS configured. I can log into the RDWeb website but when choosing any App, I get this first message. If I choose Remote Desktop and try to remote into a workstation, I am able to log in and then receive this second message.
  • When clicking on a RemoteApp I get,  "Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server is temporarily unavailable. Try reconnecting later or contact your net administrator for assistance."

When clicking on Connect to Remote PC, I get connection option page to enter computer name (have also tried ip address), that gives me the RD Gateway Server Credentials, fill that out and get this after 20 seconds of Initiating Remote connection "Remote Desktop can't find the computer "name". This might mean that "name" does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to."

Have tried different users including administrator. no change

Server 2012 RDS: The publisher of this RemoteApp program can't be identified.

Can't find any info about this that relates to Server 2012.

I have three Server 2012 VMs: Connection Broker, Web Access and Session Host. Client PC is Windows 7. All joined to same Active Directory.

I've used my Enterprise CA to generate a certificate for the web server and installed that and have configured the PC to get its RemoteApp programs from the web server - they're showing on the Start Menu.

When I click on a RemoteApp on the Start Menu I get a warning box appear:

RemoteApp
The publisher of this RemoteApp program can't be identified. Do you want to connect to run the program anyway?
This remoteApp program could harm your local or remote computer. Do not connect to run this program unless you know where this program came from or have used it before.
Publisher: Unknown publisher
Type: RemoteApp program
Path: calc
Name: Calculator
Remote computer: rdsconnection-broker.fully.qualified.name
[ ] Don't ask me again for connections to this computer

I don't know how to get rid of this. None of the options mentioned for resolving this for Server 2008 work as the things they talk about changing/configuring don't exist on Server 2012. As you can see, I'm publishing a very basic built in application at the moment.

It seems as though the connection broker server needs configuring with a certificate or something, but I can't see anything in the RDS section of the Server Manager GUI to do this.

NLA works fine from the Windows 7 PC to all three servers via a normal remote desktop connection, but clearly RemoteApp is not happy. I don't even know if this is an NLA issue or something else.

Please help/advise.

Faulting module name: TSVIPSrv.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17514, time stamp: 0x4ce7ca09

Anyone know of a fix?

RD Licenses not being issued

I have a 2012 R2 standard server hosting RD Licensing.  I have installed two sets of licenses (100 & 75) for a total of 175.  Of the group of 100, all have been issued with no remaining.  There is another group of 75 that remains available but unused.  All of these are per-user cals. They are Volume License program cals.

When I open licensing diagnoser from another server it correctly shows that I have 75 available cals.  However, none are being issued.  Existing cals are being renewed correctly.

running the powershell command: Get-RDLicenseConfiguration returns: Not Configured (I don't know if that is relevant).   I don't think this is a new issue,  but something that has recently become noticeable.

Are multiple groups of licenses supported in Server 2012 r2? How can I enable the other 75 cals for issuance?

Can I add a new server to test RemoteApp without disrupting the current remote desktop services?

$

My current Remote Desktop Services deployment consists of two servers. The first has the following installed roles:

  • RD Web Access
  • RD Connection Broker
  • RD Session Host (although it doesn't currently host any sessions)
  • RD Licensing

The second has only RD Session Host installed and hosting sessions is its purpose within the deployment.

I would like to configure and test RemoteApp with the intention of eliminating the second RD Session Host server from the deployment.

I have had limited experience configuring Remote Desktop Services and I want to be sure I do not disrupt existing services during my testing.  Can it be done?  What steps do I take to guarantee I don't cause disruption?

The current servers are running Windows Server 2012 Standard.  The server I intend to use as to test RemoteApp has Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard (Evaluation).

RDS2012 - Generic Printer has Wrong Code page - ZPL Printer

hi

we are using an 2012 R2 RD Server.
We have Zebra Printers on our Clients wich needs the Generic TextOnly Driver to use this printer becaus it awaits ZPL commands.

I already disabled the EasyPrint Funcion via GPO to get the printer running on our RD Server.
The only problem that still appears is, that the printer is using the wrong CodePage Setting.

The Client has set the code page on the printer to "multilingual"
On the RD Server, this mapped printer has the default "US 1" setting, and the user cannot change these setting on the RD Server.

i tried it with an english and a german RD Server

I also tryied to find out, where the default Code Page is declared inside the TTY Driver. but i cant find any position in the Driver Files or Registry.

Is there a way to change the Default CodePage of the Generic TextOnly(TTY) Driver. Or any other ideas like using a different TextOnly driver or wrapper?

Limiting client resolution and color depth with a signle monitor on Win2012 RDS host

$

Hi,

I am looking for a way to limit resolution and color depth on a RDP session to RD Session Host, in case that only one (single) monitor is allowed for client session.

Due to some old (from 2012) articles, it seems that, if only one monitor is allowed on a remote session, setting limit on resolution and color depth is meaningless.

Anyway, what I want is following: on Win2012 R2 RDS host, limit remote session to be of max 1280x768 on a single monitor, for every client. I want that to be restricted on RDS host, not be dependent on any client-based configuration.

Any help would be appreciated

Windows RemoteApps Unusable After Anniversary Update

$

Hi everybody,

after the anniversary update we are faced with a strange problem regarding remoteapps on remote desktop session hosts:

Clients connecting to an application hosted on the session host do not receive the seamless window. Instead, they get a bleached, semi-transparent picture of the app window which is not responding to mouse or keyboard interaction.

This problem occurs only with Windows 10 clients (all editions, different hardware) having installed the anniversary update 1607 with rdp 10.2. Older clients with update 1511 and rdp 10.0 do not face this problem.

Clients connect to the session hosts through rd gateway using rd web access. All Servers running Windows Server 2012 R2. Clients and servers have all latest patchsets installed.

Does anyone have an idea how to work around this issue?

Thank you in advance and best regards,

Sven

P.S.

Meanwhile I did some further investigations. I set up a new domain with 2 remote desktop session hosts (all Windows Server 2012 R2 with latest patchsets installed). Launching a remoteapp from a Windows 10 1607 client works fine. After moving one host to our production domain, creating a collection and launching an app from it, the problem occurs again.

The weired thing is that after moving the host back to the test domain, the problem still exists. Now in my test domain I have two nearly identical host, but one produces the above described error, one not. No logs, no differences in registry settings, no special RemoteFX GPOs, no idea of the cause... With any older clients everything works fine on all hosts. Makes me crazy...

It show the screen to the remote pulic worker.  The remote office worker can view what i am doing.

May I know what does it cause?

I'll appreciate for your kindly reply.
