Terminal Server loads temp profiles

Hi Guys,

We are experiencing an issue with one of our terminal servers were if we have more than 60 connections they all load into temporary profiles. We have done the usual of removing the sid from the profilelist in regedit, Remove the user account folder and we have replaced the default profile many times. It just seems once we have that magic 60 number it refuses to let another load his profile. The server has loads of resources and it's not under any load.

I have a license of 75 per device cals installed so im within my limit. It also shows 4 temporary device cals are issued is this normal?

Its Server 2008 r2.

Sorry any profiles beyond the 60th connection loads into a temporary profile.

I also get these messages even though it says i have 15 licenses available.

The Remote Desktop license server "MSK-TERMSERV-04" does not have any remaining permanent licenses of the type "Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 : Per Device CAL (TS or RDS)". As a result, the Remote Desktop license server cannot issue licenses of the type "Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 : Per Device CAL (TS or RDS)" to the Remote Desktop Session Host or Remote Desktop Virtualization Host server "MSK-TERMSERV-04". To resolve this problem, verify that the Remote Desktop licensing mode configured on the RDSH or RDVH server matches the type of licenses installed on the Remote Desktop license server. If required, purchase and install additional licenses as needed for this Remote Desktop license server.

RDS - Session Virtualisation - How to open App in users own desktop

$

Hi Guys
I am hoping to get some clarification.
I am in the middle of deploying a RDS FARM (Session Virtualization) for a client.
I will be presenting a bunch of URL in the "Remote App" page once a user authenticates via the webaccess URL.

I understand when a user clicks on a URL from the Remote App page it fires up a RDP session for the user and hides the RDP window so the user gets a feel that they are using a Web app. But this means, the user is using the RDS Farm resources when they click on the URL.

Question

Is it possible to have a Citrix like experience, ie, when the user clicks on the URL from the Remote app page
rather than opening an IE browser window from the Session Host server the IE session opens from users own desktop?

Thanks in advance
J

Server2016 Essentials cannot add RDS Virtualization Host

I get either this error in the quick start deployment:

Failed:
Unable to install the role services. ArgumentNotValid: The role, role service, or feature name is not valid: 'rds-virtualization'. The name was not found.

Or

Failed:
Unable to install RD Virtualization Host role service on server DC-BOZ-01.BOZIEDOIL.local ArgumentNotValid: The role, role service, or feature name is not valid: 'rds-virtualization'. The name was not found.
Unable to install RD Virtualization Host role service on server DC-BOZ-01.BOZIEDOIL.local Exception of type 'System.Exception' was thrown.

All other RDS services including licensing are working and licenses installed. Hyper-V is installed and basic VM configured ok. Just cannot get a Virtualization Host configured to get users to it.

Ooo, yikes. everything else in RDS was working now it is blank.

Help!

Multiple RDS deployments same forest

The setup has:
-2x 2012R2 server with the session host role configured
-1x 2012R2 server with the gateway, webaccess and connection broker installed
-1x domain controller
-1x application server running a SQL database

A application is published on the RD Web Access server, the users are only using the remote app to connect.
-The web access URL: tenant.fabrikam.com
-The gateway URL: tenant.fabrikam.com

The plan is to setup a multitenant environment, the others customers need to access a different domain/URL, for example:  tenant.contoso.com

An option would be to add a second RD Web access website to the existing RD Web Access server, however the preferred way is to add a second RD Web Access server. But the problem is the RD Gateway is also installed on the same server and has the wildcard certificate.

For the reason above i think the best option is to deploy a new RDS infrastructure (Gateway, Web Access, Connection Broker and Session hosts) that uses the same AD domain and is able to use the same application server.

Is it possible to deploy multiple remote desktop services in the same forest?

Corrupt Windows 2012 RDS Basic Color Scheme

We have one Windows 2012 R2 server that has been functioning fine up to a couple of weeks ago.  After a reboot the screen colors went haywire.  It seems somehow the “Windows Basic” color scheme got corrupted. Black text becomes yellow text. White backgrounds become black backgrounds. The right-hand scroll bar becomes black with white outline. And in some cases white text will replace black text on a white background, rendering the window contents invisible.

Following a number of suggestions online I have been able to get this server back where users can use it.  What I have read online indicates that a reboot (due to MS Updates or whatever other reason) could cause this corruption again.

What I want to know - has MS come out with a permanent fix for this issue?  Just because the basic color scheme gets corrupted is no reason to have to reload a server (one suggestion I found online).  As I see things, this should be a situation like installing a new updated graphics driver to fix a resolution issue.

What about it MS?  Care to pipe in with your thoughts on this matter?

What does the community have to say?  I am hoping you tell me there is at least a hot fix for this.

Thanks

Issue with Remote desktop Services within Direct Access

I have set up Remote Desktop Services on a Windows 2012 R2 Server.  Internally everything is working as expected.  The next stage is to get it to work via DirectAccess.

I can log into DirectAccess as me (member of the Domain Admin group) and get to the RDWeb page,  but when I click on the RemoteApp Program,  I get the "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these Reasons:  etc."

But if still logged into DirectAccess as me, I log into the RemoteApp program as the Domain Administrator it all works as it should.

Anybody have any ideas?

Is there a way to locate my Remote Desktop Licensing Server?

Hello,

Let me give you some context:) I'm new in a company. We have a medium size environment and we still use Server 2003 Terminal Server for user access.

We've added a few 2012 RDS Servers to replace the old TSs and ran into a brick wall with licensing.

As far as I know, there is/was a licensing server hidden somewhere, but I don't know where.

Is there a way to locate that server? A Powershell command maybe?

Or if I connect to a 2003 TS, is there a way to find out who issued its license?

Unable to Publish apps

Hi Everyone,

I recently stood up a 2012R2 server and setup remote desktop services.  Since this was for testing, I installed all roles on (1) server.  I set it up and published apps needed as of yesterday (1/4/2017).  Today I can no longer publish any apps.  I can modify them or remove them, just cannot add a new one.  When I attempt to publish a new one I get:

The following requirements should be met for the RD Session Host Servers in the collection:

1. You must be an administrator on the RD Session Host Server ( I am Domain Admin, which is added to the local admin group)

2. The RD Session Host server is running. (One server runs all roles and all services show running)

I can still access the RDWeb portal and launch applications. I did find one forum mentioning the need to license Office 2013.  I went and installed my license, but it did not resolve the issue.

No changes were done on this server during the time mentioned.  I also am the only one with access to it.  I do have some event log errors:

1. ID: 20499:  I am assuming this is just Remote desktop trying to map user drives and redirected folders and it is failing.

2. ID 2056: The Remote Desktop Connection Broker server could not enumerate the targets for the provider named NULL from the database.

I have also uninstalled all roles and reinstalled w/ same results.  Although this time when I reinstalled, the default published apps were not there. (notepad, paint, etc).  I must be missing something.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Can't change RDWeb password for non-admin accounts

I have enabled the password change option for Remote Desktop Web Services in Server 2008 R2 and applied the necessary hotfixes. I can change admin passwords, but am unable to change any user/non-admin passwords. When I do, I get the following error message:

Your new password does not meet the length, complexity, or history requirements of your domain. Try choosing a different new password.

No matter how complex I make the password, it still gives me that error. I understand that I may be able to change the "Password must meet complexity requirements" group policy option, but is that the only way? Even then, why wouldn't a very secure password work for non-admin accounts?

RDS high availability with two RDS servers

Hello,

Can we use high availability with two servers.

one server hold All RDS server roles(Licence, Session host, Connection Broker, Gateway).

I referred on Internet for guidance. But most articles have provided details to use two or more server for one RDS role.

It's high cost solution and most of organization consider cost effective solution.

If anyone know best cost effective solution, Please provide that.

RDS 2016 blue screen and issue with UmRdpService

Hi

I have created a new infrastructure on Windows Server 2016 (French) :

- 1 DC

- 1 Broker RDS

- 2 RDS

- 1 RDS Web Access

I use the fonctionnality User Profile Disks for RDS

My first issue is a random reboot with a blue screen. Exactly the same issue that this post

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/cf843781-195e-418f-a124-5e40dee0d901/windows-server-2016-crashes-with-error-in-rdbsssys?forum=ws2016

As indicated, i turned off drive redirection in my GPO and since problem stopped.

I hope Microsoft will release a fix quickly.

Now i have a second issue where i don't find documentation to solve it.

Randomly on each RDS Server, no remote desktop connection can be established, i have a black screen after login to RDS Server.

In system event i have the error

Event ID: 7011 A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from theUmRdpService service

I'm tried to reboot the RDS Service but the service doesn't restart.Currently i reboot the server but i want to fix this problem.

On Windows Server 2012R2, i finded the KB3047296 but it's not for my OS.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3047296

I don't know if my two issues are linked but i need help to solve it.

Thank you for your help

Best Regards

Hi All

I have just installed an RDS solution for one of my customers, I am now in the process of creating a document outlining the schematics and infrastructure, basically what is RDS and how it works.

Is there any template that I can use that will help me create this document?

Regards

Local Drive not available through RDP

hello

setup as follows:

1 x windows 2012 r2 server acting as RDS

1 x windows 2012 r2 server acting as RDG

same subnet

gpo acting on RDS but only computer config - admin templates - windows components - terminal services - terminal server - device and resource redirection -- do not allow com port redirection, do not allow smart card device redirection and do not allow supported plug and play device redirection

RDG has CAP that allows device redirection for all client devices

however, when i connect to the RDS from my windows 10 machine (via the RDG), no local drives have been redirected.

also, if i log onto the main File server then from that, rdp to the RDS directly, still no redirected drives.

yes, i've checked that drives are checked on the remote desktop client.

any ideas?

Corrupt basic theme, inverted colors

Weird issue I've seen around the web and here on technet occasionally with no true fix so I'm asking for a bit of help. It seems we have inverted colors on most of our remote app servers. Attempts to take ownership of the vscache folder for deletion throws a "failed to enumerate" error. I've had success taking ownership on a non remote app server but still get access denied when trying to delete the vscache folder. I've tried the registry gpo fix detailed here: http://ravingroo.com/1466/fix-windows-server-2012-corrupt-color-scheme-theme-yellow-text-black-background-issue/. I'm bouncing a few servers as we speak, but as of last night in my home environment I was unable to fix the issue with this workaround on a server I cloned from my corporate production farm. I've run the latest updates on one server and bounced it with no luck. I may resort to a snapshot but we can't keep taking snapshots of remote app servers each time this happens. Installing the desktop experience has not worked either. I'm really hoping Microsoft has a patch that can be applied or a permanent work around.
