we have a 2016 RDS farm and we have few Session host collection in it and users are able to use the session host.

Now when i am trying to give access to new users in the existing collection, the user is able to access the session host for certain duration after providing access. if he tries to login to the session host next day he is getting the error

"the connection was denied because the user account is not authorised for remote login"

if i remove the user and add again, the access works for certain period of time and again the next day he is getting the same error. the username is in the properties of the user group collection and still facing the same error. the RDS farm is per user based and there are available user licenses.

Please help on this issue, im not able to trace it as no events are logged in event viewer.

Remote desktop services

dear sir / madam,

currently I'm deploying the application utilizing thin manager. The application is utilizing the RDS (Remote Dekstop service). I have primary and backup/additional domain control. Step 1 is to configure RDS and this step requires the Primary Domain control running.

The RDS works properly if the Primary Domain Control (PDC) is running, but if the PDC problem/not connected then the RDS is not connected (additional domain control is running).

Is the RDS is only connect to PDC ? How can i configure the RDS which connecting to PDC and additional Domain control..so when ever the PDC is down, the RDC still connect to additional domain control

please advise

Thank You

User login stuck in loop, screen flashing

Using 2016 server using Failover Cluster Manager running multiple VMs and RDS setup.

On one specific Vm for just a few of the users when they try to login the screen just keeps flashing and the login is never successful.  Only a reboot of the VM fixes the problem temporarily but then it is back the next day.

All user accounts are domain accounts.

The error log shows this -

Faulting application name: explorer.exe, version: 10.0.14393.3053, time stamp: 0x5d01d1c5

I have done a fair bit of googling and this seems to be a fairly common issue with no obvious fix other than to rebuild the VM from scratch.

The thing is it only applies to certain user accounts on the VM not all of them and when the issue is present I can still login with the domain admin account with no problems.

So couple of questions -

1) If it is only specific user accounts that display this problem does that suggest that it is not an issue with the VM or is that a false assmumption ?

2) If it just the user accounts then what I want to do is create new accounts for these users but then I need to replicate their profile in terms of desktop settings etc.

Can someone tell me how to go about doing that ?

Any help or suggestions on the above would be much appreciated.

As far everything went great. I've add to one collection old 2012 rdhost. Worked, but when i try to add to collection new rdhost with 2016 datacenter version and i try to run it from iis i receive error like:

"No computers abailable in the pool"

I've searched almoust hole Internet - adding broker local policy etc. Nothing...In this 2016 RDS enviroment there are 2 brokers without HA (i will do this soon, after solve this problem).

Please help with that issue.

Specify a Program to Start Automatically When a User Logs On Does Not Work in 2016 Server

By default, Remote Desktop Services sessions provide access to the full Windows desktop, unless a program has been specified to start when the user logs on to the remote session. If an initial starting program has been specified, it will be the only program that the user can use in the Remote Desktop Services session. The Start menu and the Windows Desktop are not displayed when the user logs on to the remote session, and when the user exits the program the session is automatically logged off. This feature does not work 2016 server it ignores whatever we specify and always starts a Desktop Session. We are running a work group so group policy is not an option as a workaround. In the 2012 server, 2008 Server it works. Kindly please advise how to get this basic feature to run in Server 2016.

Remote Desktop not working anymore on Windows 10 & Windows 7

$

Hi,

since a few days, we have issues while trying to connect from Windows 7 & 10 clients to a Windows Server 2012R2 RD Farm.

RD farm is composed of two RD session hosts + 1 RD Gateway.

Windows 10 clients are build 1809.

The clients and the servers are in different domains with one-way trust. It worked just fine until a few days ago, when clients started getting the below error message. In the TerminalServices-Gateway/Operational log file, I can find a lot of 312 and 313 events which indicate that connections are not authorized.

I have no clue what changed as compared to when the connections where working fine.

We introduced the Microsoft Remote Desktop app as a workaround, and strange enough that works, but it is not liked very much by our users cos it has some drawbacks.

Can anyone help me, or point me where to look at?

Thanks,

Troubled Remote Desktop Connection to Windows Server 2016

$

The problem I'm seeing is that I have Windows 10, Windows 7, and Mac, all with RDC clients trying to connect to a Windows Server 2016.

With any Win7-8-10, when an initial connection to the 2016 server is made, the RPC server crashes and renders the server inaccessible for about 10 minutes.

I found that, when I use the Remote Desktop Client VERSION 8  on the Mac, it works just fine.  I also have a version 10 that shows the same problem.

After 10 minutes in locked state, it seems that the RPC server comes back alive and I can connect again - and now, I am connected to the previous connection.

I am guessing nothing else anymore. I disabled Audio services, firewall is open (otherwise it would never connect), works just fine with RDC version 8 so, obviously Terminal Services is running, there are no bad files or something alike.

IT IS the version 10 of RDC that made things bad; or it is Windows 2016 that set something unexpected ? Any registry setup that could improve things ?

What are your experiences with this ?

Windows 10 1903 remote-app repeating keystrokes

Hi,

All our win 10 1903 clients, immediately after been updated from 1803 to 1903 start repeating keystrokes in remote apps. Servers are 2012 R2. RemoteFX cannot be disabled on session hosts servers since that solution causes problems to some of the apps running. Any one facing the same problem ? Any solution?

Certificate RD Gateway, Broker and RDSH - Multiple login and certificate errors

$

Hello,

First, please my apologies if this question was asked before...

I have read more than 80 posts over the internet to find a suitable response but nothing really clear for the moment...

This one seems to be the most interesting: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2012-R2-and-2012/dn781533(v=ws.11)

I have a question concerning certificates for RDS 2016.

My customer configuration is:

- 1 RDS Broker (RDB.customer.domain.com)

- 1 RDS Gateway and RD WebAccess (RDGW.customer.domain.com)

- 1 licensing server (RDL.customer.domain.com)

- 4 RDS SH servers (RDSH01 to 04.customer.domain.com)

The servers are in the domain: "customer.domain.com".

The customer's domain is: "main.domain.com".

The RD Web access must be accessed from the customer domain (from main.domain.com=>customer.domain.com using a VPN) and from the internet with the alias "https:\\test.domain.com"

There is no relationship between domains "customer.domain.com" and "main.domain.com".

My customer asked me for a SHA256 certificate created with MMC (right clic on "certificates", "personnal", "certificates", "Advanced Operations", "Create Custom Request", etc...) because it was not possible with IIS (only SHA1 possible).

That is what I have done, creation of the CSR with CN=test.domain.com (and O=xxxxxx, OU=xxxxxx, L=xxxxx, S=xxxxx, C=xx)without specifying the Subject Alternative Name.

When the Certificate was signed with the customer's CA, I put the certificate into the edit propertied of the RDS, enabling SSO but I always have multiple login when trying to connect from the Internet (https:\\test.domain.com).

On the certificate, the Issuer is: "CA of the customer", issued to "CN=test.domain.com, O=xxxxxx, OU=xxxxxx, L=xxxxx, S=xxxxx, C=xx, subject alternative name :test.domain.com (I think this will not work for SSO).

I have read that I have to put on the CSR, a SAN (Subject Alternative Name) with DNS=*.customer.domain.com.

So, my 2 questions are:

how can I create the CSR to avoid multiple login ask and certificate errors...

Is this example correct?

CN=test.domain.com

O=xxxxxx

OU=xxxxx

L=xxxxx

S=xxxx

C=XX

DNS=*.customer.domain.com (alternative name)

Can I use only 1 certificate for Broker, GW, RDWebAccess, RDSH?

Thank you for your support!

Damien.

Server 2019 RDS HTML 5 client shows resources, but unable to start application

Situation:
Rds farm with 2 Brokers, 1 Webaccess/Gateway server and 1 Sessionhost.
The Webaccess/Gateway server is in DMZ. Everyting, even the classic web access interface is working fine, except the HTML 5 client. I can start op the webpage and see the published apps.
When I start an app, these messages are shown:

"Connecting and starting Calculator"

"Open external port"

“Unfortunately we could not connect with “Calculator”.
The connection to the remote computer was lost. There may be a problem with the network connection. If the problem occurs repeatedly, contact your administrator or technical support.”

It looked to me like it was a firewall issue, but I don't see anything getting blocked there.
I tried temporary any to any rules between the DMZ server and the LAN servers and vice versa, but that did not change the situation. So I guess the problem is not firewall related.
Than after hours I got mad, trew the entire environment, servers and everything away, created a new farm from scratch, just to get back into the same problems.
Been digging events, but do not see any that looks like a logical explanation.

Certificates are in place, No errors  in server manager.
In IIS the certificate is selected under Site Bindings: https.
Not sure if that count for the HTML 5 client as well ?

Been trying to fix this all all day, but I'm still not able to solve it.
Anyone any idea what could be the cause of this ?

Hi,

After update on client station are RemoteAPP slower, and  right mouse button is unresponsive, or react verly long time...

It is a big problem for us.

PS: after replace mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll from older version Windows 10 is all OK. but this is not a solution.

Thanks.

Terminal / Remote Desktop Server 2008 - The user profile service service failed to logon. User profile cannot be loaded

$

I have just installed a new Server 2008 Remote Desktop/RemoteApps server. We have been trialling various remote applications successfully with minimal issues until this morning when I got a report in that a new user could not open a remote session.

After troubleshooting this, the user in question, and any other user account attempting to log on to the server through remote desktop or a remote application session would bring back a logon message “The user profile service service failed to logon. User profile cannot be loaded."

Event logs show -

"Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that you are connected to the network, and that your network is functioning correctly.

DETAIL - The system cannot find the path specified."

According to forum searches this can be due to user profiles being deleted but the SID remaining in the registry. In this case the users attempting to log on have do not have a SID entry.

Also permissions to the User profile path are correct and have even been given an "everyone" group full access to the folder and subfolders as a test.

A folder has also been created manually within the Users folder to see if this would make any difference. Still the same log on issue.

I can also confirm that the users attemting to logon are successfully authenticating on to the domain according to the security event logs.

I am now at a bit of a dead end, as new users could log on and user profiles were created fine until this morning.

If anyone has any useful suggestions or insite to this issue it would be much appreciated as I am running out of hair to pull out.

 Thanks in advance

The servers must be added to the server pool

$

Hi,

We've recently moved a client's cloud server to a new data center. The process involved making a backup of the VM in the old environment, and restoring the VM in the new data center environment. This server runs the Remote Desktop Services role on Windows Server 2012 R2.

The migration seemed to go smooth, and the end-users can access their applications using RemoteApp, from any remote location. This particular client has a technical contact, who uses Server Manager on her Windows 10 PC to disconnect users from RDS as and when she needs to.

For some reason, since the migration, if we open Server Manager on the server itself, or on the technical contacts PC, we receive the infamous message:

The following servers in this deployment are not part of the server pool:
1. [server_name]
The servers must be added to the server pool.

The thing is, the server IS in fact visible in the list of Servers in Server Manager. I've tried re-adding it using the AD search, using the IP address in the DNS search, and even using the FQDN in the DNS search. All it seems to do is add another instance of the same server to the list of servers, but the above message is persistent and RDS can't be managed from Server Manager.

Has anyone seen this type of odd behavior before?

How do I show remote printers in Windows 2012 RDWEB?

$

Hi everyone,

I have setup an Windows 2012 RDS host and am able to access it externally by using https://remote.domain.com/rdweb.

Therefore I can log in and launch remote apps.

Local printers get redirected, but I do not seem to be able to see the remote printers on the RDS server.

The printer is installed and it is installed on the server.

  • Added with IP address
  • Enable Device redirection is checked
  • Appropriate users are added to proper security groups
  • we have some that show that was put there by previous employee, but i am not able to add more to show in web access.

What if I want to print on the server printer rather than my own printer?

How to get to show the printers in the RDWEB page?

So to get the flavours right. Correct me if am mistaken or left some feature out.
Cause up until recently all of the following 4 items were spaghetti in my head.

A user starts an RDS (terminal services session into a server to run an app) . TYPE 1 RDS

An administrator can monitor that session via the ADUC user properties tab "Remote control tab" enabled. TYPE 2 Shadowing?

An administrator can also remote control the desktop that the user is running while he is connecting to an RDS. TYPE 3 Computer enabled remote control (In system properties)

A help desk analyst can do Remote Assistance on that same desktop in Type 3 sharing the same desktop. TYPE 4 Remote assistance.

Does this make sense?
