Please help! How to increase font size in RemoteApp?

$

I have weak-sighted user.
There is some RemoteApp running on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standatd x64.
I need to increase scale of fonts to 125% and use 120 dpi fonts for this user.
But  increasing scale of fonts disabled on RDP Session.
Option to use 120 dpi font doesn't exist.

On Windows Server 2003 I can locally increase scale and dpi and this apply for RDP sessions of all users.
If I locally increase font scale on Windows 2008 R2 this doesn't apply on RDP Session.

I tried to use desktop customisation to increase fonts of Windows Title, Menu and etc for this user. But I can't increase system fonts on dialogs.

Please help me to increase font size for my RemoteApp.

[2012R2] RDS Session Host Configuration

Hello,

I am currently configuring an infrastructure for RDS Session Based. All my servers are Windows Server 2012 R2.

I have deployed a RD Licensing Server and 2 RD Connection Broker in HA. I have 2 servers for the RD Session Host. I have created a collection with my 2 session hosts. I have configured the timeout for the idle session in example.

Now, do I need to create a GPO with the timeout session idle, or the configuration of the collection will be used ?

I have configured by GPO the 2 settings for my session host server :

Configure RD Connection Broker server name : RD Connection Broker Round Robin Name
Configure RD Connection Broker farm name: FARM01

Is this correct ? Or this settings will be automatically configured because the two server are on the same collection ?

Do I need to make an NLB Cluster with my session host ?

Is that correct, for my end user when they went to use rdp, the use the name of my session host and then session host will contact the broker ?

I can't find any god articles on technet that explain all of this in 2012 R2.

Thanks

Local client drives visible but not accessible

Hi there!

I have a problem with mapping of local client drives when accessing a Windows Server 2012 machine via Remote Desktop.

A user that is not a member of Administrators, can see the local client drives ("C on [client name]" etc. in Windows Explorer, but when he tries to view/expand the drive, nothing happens.

When he types "\\tsclient\c" in the adress field, the client's C-drived is displayed correctly however.

For a user that is member of Administrator, everything works fine.

When connecting, I have selected to include local drives and the drives are, as mentioned, indeed listed in Explorer.

The behavior is the same when launching a server application via an rdp-file and opening an "open file" dialog in that application. In the rdp file, I have set:

drivestoredirect:s:*
redirectdrives:i:1

But then again, I don't think that's the problem.

Any advice on how to solve this is very appreciated!

Regards,

Magnus

Certificates for RemoteApp farm

Hi,

I'm having difficulties getting certificates for my Remoteappfarm working.
All clients are Win7 SP1.

I have a connection broker and a webaccess on the same server (Server1) and a Remoteapp farm (farm.company.net) with two servers included (Server2, Server3).
I also have a standalone Remoteapp connected to the webaccess (Server4)
All is set up and working in the sense that I can connect to the webaccess and start applications, but I recieved lots of warnings when starting applications due to the lack of certificates.. so..

I requested/imported an SSL cert for the webaccess with the fqdn of the webaccess adress, which enabled a smooth login to the webaccess. Works fine.

I added the policy setting to enable SSO on the clients.

I requested/imported an SSL cert for the standalone server (Server4) and also distributed the Server4 certs SHA1 via GPO as a trusted publisher as described in the documentation:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee216791.aspx
I added the cert in the remoteapp section in server manager as the cert to sign with.
Works fine, no popups regarding certs, server identities when starting the apps, SSO works fine. Perfect!

I requested/imported an SSL cert for the farm (farm.company.net) as described in the thread below:
 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverTS/thread/0158e68d-fe06-4261-88e3-4b6f205911da/
To get it right I imported the cert on the server I requested it from (Server2) and then exported it to get the private key included. This was then imported on server3.
I distributed the farm certs SHA1 as well via GPO as a trusted publisher.
I added the cert in the remoteapp section in server manager on both Server2 and Server3 as the cert to sign with.
This does however not work. When starting an application in webaccess that points to the farm I get an error message that states:

"Your credentials did not work" "Your system administrator does not allow the use of default credentials to log on the remote computer Company Remote Access because its identity is not fully verified. Please enter new credentials"
This has fields to enter my account and password. My account is already filled in and when i enter my password and hit ok I get the following prompt:

"The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect anyway? The Remote computer could not be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate. It may be unsafe to proceed. Name in the certificate from the remote computer: SERVER2.company.com. Certificate errors: The certificate is not from a trusted certifying authority.."
If I click Yes to proceed the app launches fine, but I must get rid of the message and doesn't know where to start..

Please help!

Set a machine to ignore Remote Desktop Services Profile

I have set up Remote Desktop Services Profiles for my users, but there are a few machines on which I do not want these profiles to apply.  That is, if I RDP into SERVER1, I do not want it to copy down the Remote Desktop Services Profile nor to copy my profile on SERVER1 back up to the central location for my Remote Desktop Services Profile.  Is there any sort of setting I can make on SERVER1 to accomplish that?

Thank you very much.

Default Users Profile Corrupt, Event ID 1515

$

We have a 2008 Terminal Server that is getting event ID 1515.

Details
Product: Windows Operating System
Event ID:1515
Source: Userenv
Version:5.2
Symbolic Name: EVENT_PROFILE_DIR_BACKEDUP
Message:Windows has backed up this user's profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backed up profile the next time this user logs on.

Explanation

A temporary user profile is loaded because Windows was unable to log you on with your local profile.

A possible cause for this is if your local profile has been corrupted or you no longer have adequate privileges to the profile folders.

Note: All changes made to the temporary profile are lost after you log off.

User Action

Look for additional profile events in the Event log to obtain more information about why this occurred or contact the system administrator for additional help.

Is there anyway that I can recover or repair the default users profile?

SSL for Remote Desktop Service

Hello,

I have Windows 2012 server with Remote Desktop Services installed. I have configured a local domain ttt.domain.local and i have pointed an external domain ttt.domain.com to the server (ttt.domain.com resolves to the server IP). Im planing to use ttt.domain.com for remote desktop connections. Im getting "The certificate is not trusted" errors while trying to connect to the server, it seems to be caused by the difference between the internal and the external FQDN - .local and .com. I would like to change the self-signed certificate , but im not sure for which domain name i need to issue it - .local or .com?

Thanks!

Local Service system profile grown to extremely large size

Was doing some routine maintenance on my RDSH farm and noticed that one server has much less free space than the others.  I looked at which folders were the culprit and found this one:

C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local

It was full of files like the following:

FontCache-S-1-5-21-30371924-1664817342-1491421105-149182.dat

These files take up 50+GB of space.  My guess they're associated with user profiles.

Are they safe to delete?  I don't want to delete an actively used file.

Event ID's 4005, 50 and 56 on Server 2008 R2 RDS

$

My event log's are being hammered with Event 4005 The Windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated, Event 50 The Terminal Server security layer detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the clientand Event 56 The RDP protocol component <component> detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.

I have followed the suggestions in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc734097(v=ws.10).aspx and searched on this without finding a solution to make the events go away.

I also tried following this suggestion to remove two Windows Updates (even though I have Win 2008 Standard R2 and not SBS) http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/dd7157b8-8ecc-4a13-88ad-f4ca0d3b3249/error-the-windows-logon-process-has-unexpectedly-terminated?forum=smallbusinessserver

I have cross referenced the dates & times of these events with a login audit file I keep and hoping to find a pattern related to specific users but no luck.

Before I open a paid support ticket, I just want to find out if there is any common thread to these Event ID's.

Can these be caused by:

1) an RDP worm/malware?

2) Macintosh RDP clients?

3) Disconnected session being logged off after 2 hrs by policy?

The Remote Desktop Management service terminated with the following service-specific error %%4294967295

Got this error after a reboot for the monthly MS hotfixes. After messing around too much, I finally found the problem and though that I would document it here since I have not found the solution anywhere I looked.

This is in a Remote Desktop setup of two RDCB using a SQL DB that is hosted on a third server. The Remote Desktop Management service would fail to start with the "The Remote Desktop Management service terminated with the following service-specific error: %%4294967295" error because the SQL Server service hosting the database was offline. It had not automatically restarted after the same hotfixes. So I started the SQL server, then was able to get Remote Desktop Management to start on my RDCB without any delay.

printing locally from remote desktop not working

i have a client who recently upgraded his computers from xp to win7.  he has a multi store quickbooks pos setup where he has to log in to a remote desktop connection onto a server in another store.  he used to just login and run his reports and then print them locally.  since the upgrade, he has not been able to do this.  the work around i found was to keep the xp laptop just for printing reports.  well, now he is separating from the other store and going out on his own.  he needs to run some reports and save them to the local machine in order to bring the databases to his store.  first, i need to know how to make the win 7 computer print the reports locally, so that he can run them (the xp laptop crashed).  second, i need to know how to copy the files onto his local computer (in server 2008 i can drag and drop them, not in 2003).

the win 7 is 64 bit, the server 2003 is 32.  i tried installing the print drivers locally onto the server, but it's the wrong architecture.  i also tried installing the 32 bit drivers onto the win 7 machine, same thing.  i found several things to try, but really need to get this fixed asap.  when i try to install the printer, it shows up, and adds just fine.  i am really  having a fit here.

the copying thing is an absolute must also.  i may be able to get by without the print issue fixed, but would like to know what happened just for my own information.  thanx in advance.

Remote Desktop Configuration on Windows Server 2012 R2

Hi, I wanted to see if anyone knows how to access the console that was known before as Terminal Services Configuration.

I've been having trouble with some servers that have 2 or more NICs and sometimes the RDP protocol won't listen on the right IP and I can't connect until I disable the other NICs.

Usually in 2008 R2 I would just go on this console and define the specific IP Address in which the RDP Protocol should be listening to, but know I can't find this console anywhere on 2012 R2.

Any ideas on how I can get there or change this setting on Windows Server 2012 R2?

Thanks

Certificate RDS 2012

Hello,

I have a problem with certificate on RDS 2012.

I have :

2 RD Gateway
2 Connection Broker
2 Session Host
1 RD WebAccess

The url of gateway is : rdgwfrm.mydomain.ch
The url of ClientAccessName of the Connection Broker is : rdcbfrm.mydomain.ch
The url of my RD Webaccess us ; rdwa.mydomain.ch

I have an internal domain AD : corporate.lan

I have a wildcard certificate of mydomain.ch.

If i check the certificates states on the deployment properties, I have this :

All of the roles uses my the wildcard of mydomain.ch

I have set my wildcard for my RD Session Host with this command :

wmic /namespace:\\root\CIMV2\TerminalServices PATH Win32_TSGeneralSetting Set SSLCertificateSHA1Hash="Thumbprint"

First Problem :

Why my session host keep showing the internal certificat ? Do I need to assign my certificate manually on my servers ?

Second problem :

When I try to connect on my iPad with the official app , I have a certificate error. It's says that rdgwfrm.mydomain.ch doesn't match *.mydomain.ch. And same error for rdcbfrm.mydomain.ch. The wildcard is not supported on the IOS Apps ?

Thanks !

Server 2008 R2 - RDS Manager unable to view client sessions

We migrated this box from a physical to virtual but had to do a BackupExec backup and full restore (P2V would not work).  When doing this we had to delete the original AD object and rejoin the newly restored vm to the domain.  Server name was never changed.

Thin clients connect to this server running a remote app.  This works without any issues.  Everything appears to work 100% successfully as before.

We need to manage the sessions to the RDS server using Remote Desktop Services Manager.  When opening this up it shows the server name "Server1" but when opening RDSM I get a popup saying "The specified computer cannot be reached.  Make sure that the computer is accessible and verify computer name."  If I click on the added server "Server1" it has a green arrow pointing up it does not show any users, sessions or processes.  If I right click and try to add computer using Local Computer it comes back saying the same error message above.  If I try to add computer using select a computer I get "Server was not found".

Now I have no idea if this has anything to do with the migration above but they say before they could get in here and now they can't.  They want to be able to manage the sessions connected to the server.

Collections Unavailable on Local Server

I have a 2012 R2 VM configured with all the Remote Desktop Services installed together.  I am using this for RemoteApp functionality.  I have added the apps I want, used my certificate, and everything is working.  I can access all the remoteapps I have added.  From my desktop with remote server manager I can see the "Overview", "Servers", and "Collections -> QuickSessionCollection" for the Remote Desktop Services Server.  When I log in remotely to the VM I only see "Overview" and "Servers", there is no "Collections" option.

Why can I see the "Collections" from my desktop using remote server manager and not inside the server manager locally?  I do not have any idea how to troubleshoot this.

Thanks.

Desperate for help.. RDS & SSL Certificate

I have a 2008 R2 server we use solely for RDS connections, no RD Gateway installed and I don't have a web site associated with the domain name I'm using.  Right now the customer can use [mydomain].com in the RD connection and they can log on, they get the certificate warning and at some point I created a self-signed certificate I can't seem to get rid of.  I don't have Active Directory installed either.

I've spent they last 5 hours or so trying to understand how to import and set these certificates up. I got them from Network Solutions which is the same place that I got the domain name from.  They sent me four crt file as follows:

AddTrustExternalCARoot

NetworkSolutions_CA

UTNAddTrustServer_CA

www.[mydomainnam].com

I did not create and CSR as Network Solutions said they would generate and submit it for me since they do my hosting.  I've tried so many different tutorial I'm completely turn around and simply not sure what questions I need to answer or even how to answer any you may ask. I'm very new to all of this and in way over my head.  I'm really looking for step by step instructions.  Anyone care to help a charity case :)

Thanks

Kevin
