Hi guys,
Is there an easy way to migrate local user profiles on an remote desktop server to user profile disks? I am replacing a Server 2008 R2 and want to start using UPD's instead on a Server 2012 R2.
Best regards,

This is the error given and I've been given a bunch of 25 digit keys that the IT Company Purchased. They tell me they have tried to input them and they won't install. The Install licenses wizard has 7 Fields to Enter Groups of info.
My keys are in 5 Groups. Example: AB123 CD123 EF123 GH123 IJ456
Server1 is Windows 2012, Server 2 that I'm wanting to install these licenses to is Server 2016.
I have some clients who need to use a larger mouse curser. However, when they use the RemoteApps we published for them, the configuration is not staying in place.
I thought maybe if I created a GPO to force the configuration that would work. It does not.
It works when you RDP into a desktop but not when using a RemoteApp.
The GPO changes the users' registry to the desired mouse settings, yet it is not sticking in RemoteApps.
Also, this is for any published RemoteApp, we publish Windows File Explorer for them and that also reverts the mouse configuration back to Windows' default
Is there so configuration setting somewhere to control how a mouse looks in a RemoteApp specifically or something like that?
Hi,
Is it possible to change rdweb port if gateway is not installed in windows 2012 std Remote Desktop Server?
Thanks.
I work for a large utility supporting our distribution engineering design tools within a Citrix environment. A few years back we would have users reporting they were receiving this message when trying to launch the application in Citrix, "no Terminal Server License Servers available.. " The fix is very easy, we just perform the following steps,
Steps to fix Terminal License error:
In August 2017 we upgraded the software to a complete new version and have not seen the issue since until about three months ago. The same fix above resolve the issue but I would like to find a way to prevent it altogether.
My question is, does anyone know what is causing the issue to occur. Is the registry entry becoming corrupt or is there something in the background where it has expired?
Hi,
Appreciate the help. I am writing an application which will use a simple license server that I develop to authenticate users.
For my customers, I would prefer that they not need to open a port on their router and windows 7 / 10. Is there a port generally open by default where the client app can request license validation?
Thanks,
Charles

Dear All,
Somebody has experience with problems connecting to Server 2016 RDS server for Apple Devices,
Working perfectly for any other client
But when a Apple device wants to connect through HTML5 secure connection i get a disconnection log ,
Error message
The server security layer detected an error (0x80004005) in the protocol stream and the client,
I unchecked the remote desktop setting for NLA usage in the security settings of the session collection but it doesnt make a difference, also I pushed a gpo for this setting enforced,
Security level is negotiate and encryption level Client compatible,
The disconnect reason is 14
I see its building up the connection , it did accept the connection , connection id created ,PrepareforAccept ,SendPolicyData,Perfcounter session started with instance id, and then it gets this security layer error message (0x80004005)
We just built a new Windows Server 2019 server running Remote Desktop Services 2019, using the Quick Start install. It's a single server so everything is on that one server including the Licensing Server. Domain Users can connect without issues, but local users that connect remotely get an error "Remote Desktop License Issue" "There is a problem with your Remote Desktop license, and your session will be disconnected in 60 minutes". The local user does indeed get disconnected in 60 minutes and has to reconnect. What's wrong?
NOTE: I noticed in the Remote Desktop Licensing Diagnoser that the Remote Desktop Host Server version is Windows Server 2016 for some reason. It should be 2019.
Hi,
Is there any way to see the source IP addresses of client connecting to the HTML5 RDWeb Webclient?
Thanks
About two weeks ago, the UWP, iOS, Mac OS and Android versions of Microsoft Remote Desktop Manager all stopped working for our RDS environment externally; previously, users were able to use this application externally and internally without fault. If the users access our RDWeb/Pages/en-US/default.aspx and use classic MSTSC to open RemoteApps then this works externally.
When plumbing in the correct feed details to the apps we get (iOS, Mac OS) 'no workspace is associated with this URL site'.
We are using Windows Server Datacenter 2016 across the board with 2 servers acting as Gateways, Licensing, Broker and Web Access with a further 6 acting as session hosts. All have been updated including the most recent crypto hotfix (approximately when the whole thing stopped working).
The route external users take would be:
External DNS entry - ADFSWAP - Gateway - Broker - Session Host
The following error can be found in the logs on our gateway servers:
- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> - <System><Provider Name="ASP.NET 4.0.30319.0" /> <EventID Qualifiers="32768">1309</EventID> <Level>3</Level> <Task>3</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2020-01-28T09:09:11.513985500Z" /> <EventRecordID>135104</EventRecordID> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>##gateway computer##</Computer> <Security /> </System> - <EventData><Data>3005</Data> <Data>An unhandled exception has occurred.</Data> <Data>28/01/2020 09:09:11</Data> <Data>28/01/2020 09:09:11</Data> <Data>b06bd32f8e5749749acc0c7da21c3816</Data> <Data>78</Data> <Data>13</Data> <Data>0</Data> <Data>/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT-1-132246739255801381</Data> <Data>Full</Data> <Data>/</Data> <Data>C:\inetpub\wwwroot\</Data> <Data>##gateway computer##</Data> <Data /> <Data>7564</Data> <Data>w3wp.exe</Data> <Data>IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool</Data> <Data>HttpException</Data> <Data>A potentially dangerous Request.Path value was detected from the client (:). at System.Web.HttpRequest.ValidateInputIfRequiredByConfig() at System.Web.HttpApplication.PipelineStepManager.ValidateHelper(HttpContext context)</Data> <Data>https://fqdn:443/https:fqdn/api/feeddiscovery/webfeeddiscovery.aspx</Data> <Data>/https:/fqdn/api/feeddiscovery/webfeeddiscovery.aspx</Data> <Data>##Internal IP##</Data> <Data /> <Data>False</Data> <Data /> <Data>IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool</Data> <Data>26</Data> <Data>IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool</Data> <Data>False</Data> <Data>at System.Web.HttpRequest.ValidateInputIfRequiredByConfig() at System.Web.HttpApplication.PipelineStepManager.ValidateHelper(HttpContext context)</Data> </EventData></Event>
Anyone got any ideas? The above has had some data annonymised for security.
Why my desktop icons flickering when i login via remote desktop?
The server i remote is windows server 2012
Thanks
We run Server 2016's only but get that same license message since ~ January 2020 only. We have Ncomputing L300 terminals behind. We use CAL per device with Workgroup only and our RDL diagnosers says there are no issues. Each server is its own licensing
server too.
Through gpedit.msc I switched off licensing messages but that has no effect.
Sometimes the terminals get disconnected for ~30 seconds but they come back in the last state, just irritating.
We don't want to give our students admin login rights.
I have built a Server 2016 RDS Farm (25 user cals spread over the 2 hosts) containing 2 session hosts, and now at the stage of installing software on each (both will have exactly the same software installed so they mirror each other)
For the following software below, how would i license the following
Visio
Project
Visual Studio
Would i need to buy 25 volume licenses for each software product so to cover the possibility of all 25 user cals being used.
I am part of small business (<5 employees) that needed a central server/workstation that could be logged into by multiple users. We chose windows server because we could have our familiar office products and host our business software while also supporting the technical side of the work. This needed the ability to make use of and manage multi core processors and queue work jobs for those cores. Windows Server Essentials with HPC Pack seemed the perfect solution. Alas, I was mistaken. This was just a way for MS to suck us in with an inferior product that we would need to pay to fix by purchasing more expensive upgrades (Windows Standard and RDP CALs).
Meanwhile, linux has all we need to connect ANY number of users and mangange ANY number of compute nodes in an HPC environment, FOR FREE! Is using office products as convenient/easy in linux? No but better than paying a $1,000+ in license fees for all the MS products you'll need to get this to work.
If you are looking to connect multiple users to a server remotely for a small business, STOP looking at MS. Start searching for a linux variant that suites your needs.
I'm trying to prevent users from creating tasks in task scheduler. There is a GPO item named "Task Scheduler - Prohibit new task creation" but it is only applicable to Windows 2003/XP.
Does anyone know how to deal with this issue when using Windows 2008 R2 RDS?
Thanks in advance,
Sander.
Hi Team,
We are working to upgrade many servers that's running partial and all RDS services that's running on Windows server 2008 R2 to Windows server 2012 R2. The in-place upgrade has many issues. We tried -
1. Uninstalling RDS roles , upgrade to 2012 r2 and later tried installing RDS role, ran into issues as role installation fails with errors codes which we are working with MS support and dont see success with action plans provided
Post reviewing many best practices, I see Microsoft suggest few roles which can support in-place upgrade vs migration options to windows 2012 R2
Would like to know whats the best approach on upgrading windows 2008 R2 servers running RDS services to Windows server 2012 R2
Hello,
I am currently setting up the Terminal Server collection (session host) testing environment, the collection included 3 session hosts(with load balance), 6 users, and the user profiles are located on a file server. All servers OS are the Windows Server 2016 Std eval.
