COM Port Redirect not functioning

$

COM Port redirection does not seem to work on Server 2016 when using RD Connection Broker. All the other redirects do work.

In the Group policies on the domain. "Do no allow COM port redirection" is set to disabled.
The ClientDeviceRedirectionOptions in the session collection show ComPort being enabled.
Also the redirectcomports:i:1 is present in the .rdp file.

On another machine, based on the same VM,which does not have the RD connection Broker role configured the COM Port redirection works flawlessly.

I would like to understand why COM port redirection does not work on the first system. What can i do to diagnose the issue and get it running?

Event 1067 The RD Session Host server cannot register 'TERMSRV' Service Principal Name on Windows 2019 Core

I get the following error every 12 hours:

ProviderName : Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager Id : 1067 Message : The RD Session Host server cannot register 'TERMSRV' Service Principal Name to be used for server authentication.

The following error occured: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

This message appears only on Win 2019 Core servers but not on Win 2019 GUI, nor Win 2016 GUI, or Win 2016 Core.

I have checked the SPN and it already exists:

PS> (Get-ADComputer -Identity MyComputer -Properties ServicePrincipalNames).ServicePrincipalNames
WSMAN/MyComputer.mydomain.com
WSMAN/MyComputerTERMSRV/MyComputer
TERMSRV/MyComputer.mydomain.com
RestrictedKrbHost/MyComputer
HOST/MyComputer
RestrictedKrbHost/MyComputer.mydomain.com
HOST/MyComputer.mydomain.com

The error message also says:

The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

But, I am logged on with a domain account, which means that the domain is available.

RemoteApps dont keep mouse configurations

I have some clients who need to use a larger mouse curser. However, when they use the RemoteApps we published for them, the configuration is not staying in place.

I thought maybe if I created a GPO to force the configuration that would work. It does not.

It works when you RDP into a desktop but not when using a RemoteApp.

The GPO changes the users' registry to the desired mouse settings, yet it is not sticking in RemoteApps.

Also, this is for any published RemoteApp, we publish Windows File Explorer for them and that also reverts the mouse configuration back to Windows' default

Is there so configuration setting somewhere to control how a mouse looks in a RemoteApp specifically or something like that?

Remote Desktop Permissions

Greetings to all,

Is it possible on Server 2016 to allow a user to RDP onto a server but then only allow that user permission to RDP to a different server on a different Subnet?

It's a hyper-v, running server 2016, 2 NICs connecting to subnet A and Subnet B.

The user remotes onto the server from Subnet A and then wants to remote to a machine on Subnet B. I'd like to restrict the users permissions to do ONLY (or as little as possible) this.

Thanks in advance.

RemoteApp RDS2019 - splash screens stuck on client

Hi!

I am testing RDS 2019 with RemoteApp, and I have problems with startup splash screens. Each splash screen creates a button on the client’s taskbar and does not disappear from desktop and taskbar after the appearance of the main window. For example, I run three RemoteApp and I have three splash screens and three program windows on my desktop. And even if I close these windows, the splash screens will still remain on desktop and cannot be closed. This happens only in RemoteApp and does not occur with a remote desktop mode. I tried to recreate an RDS farm again, but it does not help.

This does not happen with all programs (having splash screen), but with many. At the same time, there were no such problems at RDS 2012R2/2016.

As RDCB and RDSH used Windows Server 2019 with latest cumulative update (2019-01). As clients used Windows 10 1709/1809 with same update.

Remote Assistance without user's permission.

Hello. I'm trying to configure RA connections with my co-workers in office using Windows Server 2012 and Windows 10.

Having workstations and users in domain i've managed to setup everything. I use "msra.exe /offerra" command and it works but it requires user's permission for connection and another one for giving control.

Is there a way to disable this prompts in Server 2012/ Windows 10?

Thanks

Cannot Connect to remote server

We are running 2016 servers.

The original Farm config is:

DC2 - RD Connection Broker & Licensing

TS1 - RD Gateway & Session Host

TS2 - Session Host

we have recently added 2 more session host, and they can connect to all servers locally but through the gateway, if i have the 2 new servers on it won't let them in.

Windows Server 2019 Remote Desktop Device Cal Expiration

I have a Remote Desktop server running on Server 2019. I know that the licenses expire at a random interval after about 50 days to 90 days. If I have devices that are always logged in and the licenses expire will it automatically log the devices out so they would have to be signed into again?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Bobby

RDS 2012 unstable and slow

When I create and delete remote app (because there is no cmdlet to change alias...) I show many errors like that when I call "Remove-RDRemoteApp":

Remove-RDRemoteApp : Error retrieving the RemoteApp programs: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80070490)   at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)   at System.Management.ManagementObjectCollection.ManagementObjectEnumerator.MoveNext()   at Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.GetWmiObjectCommand.BeginProcessing()

or (yes, it's happened with a Remove call)

Unable to publish the remote desktop

or

Unable to retrieve the session collection properties.+ CategoryInfo : InvalidResult: (:) [], WorkflowTerminatedException+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : JobStateFailed+ PSComputerName : localhost

We have a big organization with more than a hundred of RDS Host and cmdlet execution take more than 4 minute...

Any idea to improve stability of RDS 2012 and allow me to delete app without problem ? (Server manager is not an option, it not works too and it is too much slow to be usable (~20min to load RDS service and take more than 2GB of RAM 🤮))

Thank you by advance

UPD Windows 7 reliplcate to new created pooled win10

Hi Experts!

Can someone help me on how to replicate the old user profile disk of windows7 pooled to newly created win10 pooled in VDI ? We have some difficulties on we can use the old UPD of the user. i have some research telling that A user profile disk are for single collection only it means you will not able to use the old one but the best practices is to create a new folder for UPD which is seperate from win7 pooled collection.

Considerations when implementing User Profile Disks

  • User profile disks are for a single collection only.
+ A user connecting to two different collections will have two separate profiles.
  • Properties of User Profile Disks are set automatically upon creation and contain all profile data and registry settings by default.
+ These properties can be defined prior to creation or after the fact in the Session Collection properties from Server Manager.
  • Some form of central file share is required prior to UPD creation as the UNC path of this share will need to be provided in the wizard during initial configuration.
+ One major benefit of these file shares is that when more RDS hosts are added to support the collection, those hosts are automatically added to the ACL of the share, not requiring an administrator to take any action in modifying security permissions.
  • User Profile Disks are restricted a single session, which means if a user is logged into one RDS host, they cannot connect to another and they cannot have more than one session active on a single host.
  • User Profile Disks are created using a naming scheme that corresponds to a user's GUID and makes identifying the UPD associated with a user into a very complicated task.
+ To make this process a simple one, there is a standalone utility published in Microsoft's Technet Gallery that addresses this issue - Sidder

Questions on RDS CALS with Windows Server 2019

Hi Team,

I have couple of questions on RDS CALS

- With 5*2019 RDS User CALS, can we have five concurrent connection to a server running Windows Standard 2019 OEM?

- If we downgrade the Windows Standard server 2019 to 2016, Would 2019 RDS CALS work with Windows 2016 Server OS? If not, can we get RDS CALS 2019 downgraded to 2016 to use it with Windows Standard Server OS?

- If we already own 2016 User CALS, can we use it with Windows Standard server 2019?

- We use to have 2 RDS CALS included with Windows server 2008 earlier, Is it the same case with 2019 windows server standard?

RDS GPO to remove tiles and start menu items

$

I have been trying to find information on how to set up GPOs to remove all tiles and start menu items from our Server 2019 systems when remoted into. We are looking to have shortcuts on the desktop for any/all access on these particular servers. Any assistance is greatly appreciated, thank you!

UPDATE:

Let me add this as it seems I am receiving many replies surrounding Windows 10. We have a mix of external Windows desktop OS versions connecting into a Windows 2019 server via RDP. From there they are then remoting into their work desktops. We want to ensure that when they are remoted into the server we have locked down the server to only allow them the ability to remote into their workstation, having a shortcut on the server desktop for quick access. We want to eliminate all tiles and start menu items on the server, along with the search feature if possible.

Thank you for all your assistance and replies so far!

Acessing PC from network errors after OS installation using WDS PXE Boot

$

Hi, I've recently installed many PCs by using WDS PXE imaging. after booting the PCs and installing the OS using WDS, I couldn't remote control the PCs (Using mstsc, everything is under AD). Then, I started installing Veyon (https://veyon.io/) as monitoring software - and it worked in all the PCs (all with the same hardware) but not in the WDS PXEd installed PCs. I also noticed, that I can ping and remote control the PCs which are alirhgt in the Veyon, but couldn't remote control the PCs that weren't.
Afterwards, I thought it was a problem in the image - so I installed a Windows Education 1903 from zero (no images at all) on some of the PCs, but still, couldn't monitor using Veyon, ping or remote control.
I've done gpupdate some times on all machines. Some of the machines (About 10 out of 40) are working (Ping+Veyon+RDP). Tried BIOS Reset on the ones that still doesn't work, but nothing helped.

Have anyone had that problem before? Is there a way to debug it? Thanks.

RD Gateway Manager - Unable to read RD Gateway Server Settings

$

I'm trying to install a Remote Desktop Gateway into my domain, but I am running into a serious road-block... when I load RD Gateway Manager to configure the service, there is nothing to configure because it won't load my server into the console. When I try to connect to it manually, it returns the following error:

"Unable to read RD Gateway Server Settings"

There are no errors or warnings in Event Viewer. I can verify that C:\Windows\System32\tsgateway\rap.xml exists and is readable. I can verify that Network Policy does have a TS_CAP_01 policy and it is enabled. A valid certificate was applied during setup (and I've also tried choosing ask me later).

I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the role service (including manually verifying that the policies are removed). I also have this working on another domain server, so I'm at a loss for what to look for... How can I resolve this so that I can finish configuring the service?

RDP client cannot connect to RDS CB / GW - RDWeb works

Hi all,

Today i decided to try Microsoft RDS on server 2019. my normal user can get the session based desktop via https://RDSCB/RDWeb but if i try to open RDP client and point to RDSCB.Domain.Lan then i get'The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login'

Now i have not added the security group "DOMAIN\RDS Users" to any local groups on the RDS servers. not sure if thats required or not.

Hoping someone can tell me if i should be able to just open RDP client and connect or if thats not possible. not sure what could be wrong.

Followed this guide, although i have 2 servers https://www.slashadmin.co.uk/how-to-setup-a-single-server-rds-deployment-using-server-2016/
