We have requirement for RDP user authentication, example if user accessing remote should ask permission with other active user for accessing remote like SCCM remote.

RD Connection Broker multiple Collections

Hello,

I've got a question about multiple Collections with 1 RD Connection Broker. We've got in our environment 1x Connection Broker (which is also Licensing Server) with 1 collection (called Farm1). This collection has 10x RD Session Hosts and we use Round Robin with an DNS entry farm1 which points to the IP-Adress of the Connection Broker. On the Connection Broker we've set the Reg-Key "DefaultTsvUrl" in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\ClusterSettings for the Collection Farm1. This works very well with the load balancing. Without this Reg-Key we had the problem with themporary user profiles (we also use User Profile Discs).

Now we need a second Collection called Farm2 which has 6x RD Session Hosts. I want to provide this Collection via the same RD Connection Broker but because the Reg-Key points to the Collection Farm1 I always connect to the wrong RD Session Hosts. Is it possible to provide multiple Collections with 1 RD Connection Broker and also use Round Robin to avoid themporary profiles and have load balancing for each Collection? Or do I have to create a second RD Connection Broker (1 for each Collection)?

Need advice about licensing

I plan to install a server as remote desktop terminal for 5 users (instead of using 1 pc desktop for each user for their remote desktop terminal). I plan to buy HPE ML30G10 and Windows 2019 standard edition. What license do I need for 5 concurrent remote desktop connections? Can I configure the server as workgroup? I'm confused with the many Windows licensing schemes.

Server not issuing Licenses But users still able to connect

Hello!

Im having some "problem" With the terminal services servers at the company.

The current setup goes like this:

2 AD controllers (these are not the terminal servers)

2 servers with licensing role and other mandatory roles for terminal services, both belonging to the "Terminal Server License Servers" (the group is in another language so maybe its not the exact name)

1 of the servers has 15 licenses and the other one(not being used at the moment) has 2x5 licenses.

Licenses were installed as soon as the roles were isntalled so no "grace period" was expired and they have been working for a long time like this, so even if the grace period was used, it would have expired by a long time by now.

A few months ago they were working normaly, but now ive started noticing something strange.

All the users in my remote desktop group can connect using RDP, but the server is not issuing a license for their user (all of our 25 licenses are per user).

For example: there are some users (lets say "remote1") that were given a licence..(I willl attach image), but other users that are currently connected "remote2" (they connect almost everyday to work) are still not getting a license, for some reason and the server still allows them to work normaly.

Now to the question:

Is this a bug?
Are there a set of requirements for the server to issue a license for that user? (a given amount of time, number of conections, or other activity?)

I have looked around in other forums/posts and all I found was common problems, like not getting a conection due to server not giving a license, or server being missing from the licensing group, etc.

I'm posting here because i dont want more users being able to connect than the amount of licenses we have.

Thank you so much for the support!

Good morning,

I have a simple, and possibly dumb question. If I unplug my mouse from my host machine, can I still use a mouse on my remote desktop?

Thanks,

Can 2 CAP share a single RAP for RD Gateway Server ?

Hi,

We are going to set up 2 CAP - One for "RDS Admin" Group and other for "RDS General" Group.

We would like to know is it necessary for us to create 2 separate RAP or can both CAP share a single RAP ?

Besides, we find that the consultant who sets up the RD Gateway Server gets BUILTIN\Administrators included in an existing CAP. May I ask which local Administrator Group refers to ?  The RD Gateway Server or the targeted machine ?

Thanks a lot.

Cannot RDP using WebAccess Gateway, but can via MSTSC application

Hello,

This is what I suspect:

I think the web server (and gateway) is returning a RDP file to my external home computer that does not have the gateway information saved in it.  But I can't confirm this, not sure how.  Your thoughts?  Any tips?  Do you think I'm on the right track?

This is a new build, has never worked 'properly'.

  • Server "WAGW01" > in DMZ (Web Access, and Gateway role)
  • Server "RDB01" > in LAN (Broker)
  • Server "SH01" > in LAN (Session host, not relavent in this scenario)
  • Server "SH02" > in LAN (Session host, not relavent in this scenario)
  • Server "LIC01" > in LAN (license server)
  • PC "PC01" > in LAN
  • All servers are 2016 Std
  • PC is Win10
  • All computers above are domain joined
  • Have worked with network/firewall team and confirmed firewall ports are open that should be
    https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/enterprise-mobility-security/rd-gateway-deployment-in-a-perimeter-network-firewall-rules/ba-p/246873
(had a reference to another URL with similar info but cant find it

This works:

  • From an external home computer
  • Run MSTSC.exe, set gateway to rds.mydomain.com which points to WAGW01 in DMZ
  • Connect to computer: "PC01"
  • Works perfectly.  Can see connection in the Gateway Manager on WAGW01.

This does not work:

  • From an external home computer
  • Use IE, browse to https://rds.mydomain.com/rdweb (loads fine)
  • Log in with mydomain\TheNotSoGreatUser (logs in fine)
  • Click "connect to remote computer" tab (page loads fine)
  • Connect to computer "PC01" > Click Connect
  • Fails
  • If I enter an IP address (172.x.x.x), it fails with a different error

what the heck, right?

  • On my external home computer I ran packet capture.
  • Packets seen loading the webpage fine, normal.
  • But after I click connect and the MSTSC application opens.  zero packets go to the web server/gateway.  Instead, my PC starts to query for the NetBIOS name "PC01", or it starts to send packets to the private IP (172.x.x.x).  My home network is 192.168.0.1.

What the heck, right?  Its like the webserver is sending a RDP file to my home PC without the gateway settings included.  But I cant find out how to confirm that.

Any tips or suggestions?

Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2019 - RD Virtualization Host feature missing

I'm trying to use Hyper-V Server 2019 as a virtualization host.  This fails.

I have 3 computers;

  1. domain controller
  2. Windows Server 2019, which will be RD Connection Broker and RD Web Access
  3. Hyper-V Server 2019, which will be RD Virtualization Host

When I attempt to install this using Server Manager, RD Connection Broker and RD Web Access installation succeeds, but RD Virtualization Host fails.

Investigating further, the feature is missing! Here's some PowerShell, confirming I am running Hyper-V Server 2019 (downloaded today, 3 July 2019), and the Remote Desktop Virtualization Host feature simply not there!

According to Using Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 for VDI – Matthijs's blog I would have expected to something like this, clearly showing "Remote Desktop Virtualization Host" as a component;

But that doesn't appear on Hyper-V Server 2019.

Hence...

Add-WindowsFeature –Name RDS-Virtualization

...simply doesn't work.

How do install "Remote Desktop Virtualization Host" on Hyper-V Server 2019?

Error applying wildcard cert to RDS Web Access Role Service, event ID 20480 Failed to enumerate SSL certificate information

I am trying to apply a third-party wildcard cert to a RDS server farm.  The .pfx is imported successfully for the RD Connection Broker roles, but gives an error "Could not configure the certificate on one or more servers..." when I apply it to RD Web Access.  In the Event log, this generates event ID 20480 "Property page: Manage certificates update failed: due to Exception Failed to enumerate server SSL certificate information."

This is an internal farm, with no RD Gateway server, 1 Connection broker/Licensing/Web Access server, and three additional session hosts.

Windows 2019 RD Licensing Diagnoser "License server is not available. The could be caused by network connectivity"

I am facing error in RD Licensing Diagnoser "License server is not available. The could be caused by network connectivity"

OS are Windows 2019 and both servers are in AD domain but on different sites with firewalls inbetween.

Site A server is having roles - RDSH and RD Licensing with Per-User CAL's installed.

Site B server (new build and added today) -RDSH role and pointing to first one for license server

Server A works fine and Licensing Diagnoser is not showing any problems. CAL's are being allocated and users are able to RDP just fine.

Server B is showing the error under RD Licensing Diagnoser "License server is not available. The could be caused by network connectivity"

I can see servers are able to telnet each other over TCP 135.

When I refresh diagnoser, I can see connection establish on server A from B and vice-versa but Diagnoser fails.

Please help what else can be checked to fix it? I suspect it to related to firewall but need to understand what else ports in need to check. Able to see some articles explaining some ports but I need to know incoming/outgoing port on each server to verify.

I have followed this article to install server A in past.

hi,

we have several applications published on our RD environment.

What I noticed is that an app published via Windows 2012  ( not R2 ) works faster ( better response time, lower latency ..) than an the same app published on Windows 2016 .

Both servers has the same GPOs applied, settings..etc..

even the GUI of this app, looks better when published via WIn2012   , compared with Win2016

any ideas ?

thanks,

Hi

Sorry if I put this in the wrong form, Is there a GPO or Local policy that allows the user to RPD into a server from a laptop, however once the user is in the server the GPO or local policy prevents the user or computer from remoting into another server? I don’t care if they have admin rights,  This server is part of a control system and I don't want any hopping from the server. The firewall is disabled on the server because of the control system. The servers is running 2016 at a domain level 2008.

Thanks for your assistance
