Easiest way to enable more than 2 concurrent RDP sessions on Windows Server 2016

$

Hello everyone,

I am trying to figure out the easiest way to allow more than 2 RDP sessions at a time on my Windows 2016 Server Standard. I have tried using the google to help, but there are so many suggestions and 90% of them result in the original poster disappearing so I don't know the best way to accomplish this. I don't need anything extravagant setup, I just need more than 2 people to be able to rdp into the server at the same time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Upgrading RD Services to 2019

I am getting the following error when I try to upgrade an RD Virtualization Host from 2016 to 2019.  this is from the Scanresults.xml

Id="RdsUpgCheck.dll_RdsUpgradeComplianceCheck"><CompatibilityInfo BlockingType="Hard"/><Message Text="You have the Remote Desktop Virtualization Host (RDVH) role installed on this server. After you upgrade, you won’t be able to add the RemoteFX 3D video adapter to virtual machines."/><Action Name="Dismiss"

Google does not return much on this error.  I am doing it this way because it will not allow us to add a 2019 RD Virtualiztion Host to our deployment and I can find to useful errors in the event logs.

We are trying to upgrade our RD Services from 2012 R2  to 2019. Specifically we are migrating our of RD Virtualization hosts to new hardware on Windows 2019. We have already upgrade the RD Broker to 2019, the RD Web and Gateway are on 2016.

The upgrade procedure was falling so I loaded Windows 2016 on the RD Virtualization hosts and was able to successfully add the host to our current RD Broker. I then thought I would in-place-upgrade the RD Virtualization host to 2019 but if fails the checks with the error above.

UNABLE TO PRINT FROM IMAC USING LOCAL CANON AIRPRINT PRINTER WHEN USING MS REMOTE DESKTOP

HELLO,

I AM CURRENTLY IN ISOLATION DUE TO COVID19 AFTER RETURNING FROM OS. I AM AT HOME, USING AN IMAC WITH A LOCAL CANON TR8560 AIRPRINT PRINTER. THE SERVER I AM CONNECTED TO AT MY OFFICE IS USING WINDOWS SERVER 2008. I AM UNABLE TO PRINT TO MY LOCAL PRINTER USING THIS CONNECTION. PREVIOUSLY THE OFFICE WAS USING A VMWARE HORIZON CLIENT TO ESTABLISH A VPN AND ALL PRINTER SERVICES WERE AVAILABLE AT THAT STAGE. WE HAVE MOVED TO USING MS REMOTE DESKTOP, AND UNFORTUNATELY THE PRINTER NO LONGER WORKS. ANY HELP WOULD BE MOST WELCOME.

User Profile Disks: Disk has the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system

Hello,

we have a Windows Server 2016 RDS session-based server with User Profile Disks enabled. If there is at least one user logged in, for every other user that connects to the server, a warning is added to the Event logs: "Disk <x> the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system". Aside from that, all seems to work fine, so should I be worried about these warnings?

RDS CALs won't Activate

I have Server 2016 Standard with 1 RDS CAL installed and all is working.

I am now having an issue when trying to add 3 additional RDS CALs
I have tried to activate by phone and internet and both are unsuccessful.
It says to check the event logs for more info, but I can’t find any error entries. The activation wizard returns this error code Message Number: 0x13a6 (tried to google without success)

I’m not sure if the issue is due to the CALs being issued for Server 2019 (my Microsoft Partner said they were backwards compatible).

WMF logo in header doesn't show up in Remote Desktop session

We use WMF files for our logos in the header of our documents. These go back maybe 10 years.

I have a few users that, when they Remote into their office workstations (Dell Precisions, Windows 10 updated, 32GB RAM - decent specs) and they open a Word file (both .doc and .docx) they do not see the WMF logo. They say they can click it like it's there, but it doesn't display and they can't print it to PDF either (and it doesn't display in the print preview dialog either).

I as an admin have logged into their machine under my own account, and I can see the WMF logo in all documents.

I then had the user log into MY computer in the office (same spec and same general office image) and the user STILL cannot see the graphic.

We have compared Remote Desktop settings and they all match. We are using SonicWall's NetExtender for our VPN connection.

Can anyone think of why this might be happening? Could the WMF be tripping a security something or other on a user account and not on an admin account?

Should RDS NPS servers be in DMZ or LAN when you have an RODC?

Hi All,

We have a domain joined RDS gateway server in our DMZ using an RODC for LDAP/AD connections.  In this scenario, is it best to put an Azure MFA NPS server in the DMZ or LAN?  Currently we have it in the DMZ (working fine), as the network team have said the fewer open ports between the DMZ and LAN the better.

I'm just wondering if there's any reason to move it into the LAN?

Thanks!!

Updating Expired Passwords on Wyse 3040 ThinOS 8.6_206

We have a number of Wyse 3040's running ThinOS 8.6_206.

The users of these devices are reporting that once their password has expired, they are then not able to update the password without resorting to calling the helpdesk for help.

Researching this I found a number of threads that suggested disabling NLA.
Is this my only option? If at all possible I would rather not disable security features to enable this.

I also noted some references to using RD WebAccess to redirect to the password reset website. Though my understanding of this is that it would only work whilst connecting from a full OS with a proper web browser. Am I understanding this correctly?

I will certainly be trying to manage this from the user side as well... But at the same time would like a technical fix if at all possible.

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

How can I force a RemoteApp file to request credentials when launched (Windows 10)?

How can I force a RemoteApp file to request credentials when launched?

I have an .rdp file that I use to launch a remote app.  I entered credentials for one account and launched it.  Then closed it.  Now I need to launch it with a different account.  But when I dble-cick the file, it launches with the prior credentials and doesn't ask me for any.  How can I force it to ask me for credentials?  I went to Control Panel\User Accounts\Credential Manager and don't see an entry in there for my RemoteApp, so I can't delete them there.

Thoughts?

Azure screen on second monitor will not expand using HDMI - DVI cable

Hi all,

Because of the whole corona home office setup for two I have to connect a second monitor to my laptop with an HDMI to DVI cable (the second monitor only has the DVI portal). Now I'm experiencing problems when I want to expand the Azure remote desktop screen on to both monitors. It just will not detect the second screen... With 2 regular HDMI monitors there is no problem and Azure can be expanded on the two monitors. Somehow the HDMI - DVI cable disrupts this workflow.

Anyone here that has a solution to this problem?

Thanks!

Need advice about licensing

I plan to install a server as remote desktop terminal for 5 users (instead of using 1 pc desktop for each user for their remote desktop terminal). I plan to buy HPE ML30G10 and Windows 2019 standard edition. What license do I need for 5 concurrent remote desktop connections? Can I configure the server as workgroup? I'm confused with the many Windows licensing schemes.

Best practice in Publishing all in one RDSH/Terminal server roles to the internet for remote workers?

Hi All People,

I have deployed the new Windows Server Terminal Server across 5 of my data centre location to support remote workers.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/remote/remote-desktop-services/rds-deploy-infrastructure

The above is one of the server configurations that is deployed in my internal network and then access via the browser:
https://RDSH-VM01.domain.com/RDWeb/
https://RDSH-VM02.domain.com/RDWeb/
...
up to https://RDSH-VM05.domain.com/RDWeb/

Can anyone please confirm if the above is secure and can be deployed since there is no Best practice documentation to follow?

If not what is the suggested ways to deploy to allow secure remote users to login while minimizing the cost and server deployment?
Thank you in advance.

Remote Desktop Manager not showing all connections

I have three offices, all members of the same domain. Each office has a Remote Desktop Gateway setup and operating.  I can see connections starting and stopping from all three locations RD Gateway Manager.  However, when I test my connection from an outside IP address through the different FQDN gateways, although I am able to connect I am not seeing my session appear in all of the RD Gateway Managers.  I would like to have a complete accounting of all connections through each RD Gateway Manager.  What am I missing?

Thanks,

Remote Desktop Gateway Manager Console stuck on Expanding and errors our.

Hello,

I am not sure if this is the right place for it.   But I have set up a Remote Desktop Gateway server and have ran into an issue with it.   Everything is working, and I do see clients connecting to it. However, when the numer of connection exceeds a certain amount, I seem to have lost access to the Remote Desktop Gateway Manager console where it's just stuck loading.

I have also tried the Get-WMIObject command and that too gets stuck.  I was wondering if anyone knew.  What I want to do is be able to monitor the amount of connections going through that specific Remote Desktop Gateway Server.

Thank you!

Licenses RDS 2019.

Hello,

We have purchased additional licenses for the use of the remote desktop. We have received RDS 2019 licenses while the server is in version 2012 R2.
When installing the licenses the license number is refused.
How can I increase the number of licenses?

Thank you for your answers

Remote Desktop Gateway issue

Hi!

I've installed a Remote Desktop Gateway on Windows Server 2016, it worked perfectly last week. Today some users are having issues trying to connect to their workstations through RDG, but when they try to connect rdp directly (connected to the VPN) it works, and then became available and starts to work trough RDG again.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Update KB4534309 broke RDS over Web Application Proxy on 2012 R2 for iOS/Android clients

We have Remote Desktop published through Web Application Proxy, both running on Server 2012 R2.

The RDS application in WAP is configured for pass-through authentication so users can connect from both Windows and non-Windows ("rich apps" on Android/iOS/Mac) devices. This has been working for the past few years without issue.

After installing recent update KB4534309 (or the rollup that contains it, KB4534297), the non-Windows clients are unable to connect. They show error 0x3000008 during the "initiating remote connection" phase:

We couldn't connect to the gateway because of an error. If this keeps happening, ask your admin or tech support for help.

Has anyone experienced this or figured out a way to fix it?

RDS 2016 - UWP, iOS, Android and Mac OS X Microsoft Remote Desktop Manager cannot connect to URL

$

About two weeks ago, the UWP, iOS, Mac OS and Android versions of Microsoft Remote Desktop Manager all stopped working for our RDS environment externally; previously, users were able to use this application externally and internally without fault.  If the users access our RDWeb/Pages/en-US/default.aspx and use classic MSTSC to open RemoteApps then this works externally.

When plumbing in the correct feed details to the apps we get (iOS, Mac OS) 'no workspace is associated with this URL site'.

We are using Windows Server Datacenter 2016 across the board with 2 servers acting as Gateways, Licensing, Broker and Web Access with a further 6 acting as session hosts.  All have been updated including the most recent crypto hotfix (approximately when the whole thing stopped working).

The route external users take would be:

External DNS entry - ADFSWAP - Gateway - Broker - Session Host

The following error can be found in the logs on our gateway servers:

- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">

Anyone got any ideas?  The above has had some data annonymised for security.
