Terminal Server Licensing doesn't assign user licence

$

0

Hi,

We've Windows Server 2008 R2 as Terminal Licensing Server, without Remote Desktop Session Host server on the network. Licensing server is member of domain and SRDLS configuration says everything green.
On Licensing Server I can see a lot of Added licences (column "Total licences") but for all of them there is 0 Issued, and a lot of clients are using RDS service. There is no any specific Terminal event logs.

How I can start troubleshooting this issue?

Potential ideas:
- how can I check if Terminal CALs are activated?
- how can I check if my clients are using that wanted Terminal License server?

Hi

I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Terminal Services installed.

This has been working fine, but recently I am unable to add any new Computers to the local Computer Groups policy on the RD Gateway Manager

I get the following error

Hi all

I got a problem to add the RD virtualization host.

I deployed RDS for test.
-1 virtual RD Connection Broker (Windows Server 2012)
-1 virtual RD Web Access (Windows Server 2012)
-1 RD Virtualization host 1 (Windows Server 2012)

Then I created Pool managed collection. worked well.

But I add another RD virtualization host from RD Connection Broker is failed.
"Could not add the RD Connection Broker server to the TS Virtual Desktop Server settings on the RD Virtualization host 2"

I checked RDMS overview, there is RD Virtualization host 2. but I can't create collection or add virtual desktop.

I also checked event viewer, found some logs below,
(1) Error
  -Source:TerminalServices-SessionBroker
  -Event ID:1537
  -Description:
VM host [RD Virtualization host 2] is not being added to the broker or not currently running.

(2) Error
  -Source:Rdms-UI
  -Event ID:8210
  -Description:
     [Collection Name]:provisioninig failed. Reason:

(3) Error
  -Source:TerminalServices-SessionBroker
  -Event ID:2056
  -Description:
The Remote Desktop Connection Broker server could not enumerate the targets for the provider named NULL from the database.
Pooled virtual desktop collection name: NULL
Error: Logon to the database failed

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Remote WebApp single sign-on not working on Win2012

I've found a lot of articles on this problem with Windows 2008 remote desktop servers, but nothing I can find pertains to Windows 2012 RDS.  According to the documentation it's supposed to work more easily with 2012, but it is not working in my environment.  The environment is simple: I have a single Windows 2012 server with all of the roles installed on it - RD Gateway, RD Licensing, RD Web Access, RD Session Host and RD Connection Broker.  The internal and external server names are the same, and I have a GoDaddy UCC certificate that is set up as Trusted for the RD Connection broker for single sign-on and publishing, as well as for RD Web Access and Gateway services.  I'm stumped as to where to go from here to get this to work.  I've tried a few of the suggestions from the Windows 2008 server articles, including editing the renderscripts.js file, but the symptom remains the same.

What happens is that the initial sign-on to the web site is fine, but when a user tries to open an app, they get the logon dialog box shown at the end of this post. This happens whether connecting internally or externally. Typing in the password allows the user to run the apps, and after that they aren't prompted to log in again for other apps. There are no event log errors that I can find either on the server or client.  Depending on the operating system, some of the error dialogs look slightly different, showing that the logon that fails is to "server.domain.com."  I can't figure out how to fix this, so any help would be appreciated.

Change DPI scaling inside RDP session (2008 R2 / 2012 R2)

$

We have two servers:

  • Server 2012 R2 RDS
  • Server 2008 R2 RDS

Users are constantly reporting being unable to change their screen resolution. After some digging, the reason they're trying to change the resolution is because their text is too small to see. DPI scaling is obviously the answer, but when users go into the setting it is greyed out and cannot be changed.

Now, for Server 2008 R2, I've found this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2726399/en-us

Does this hotfix actually do what I suspect/hope/blindly-pray it will do? Does it re-enable the DPI options if connected via RDP? The article doesn't actually say what it does, just that it will "fix" the issue.

Next, for Server 2012 R2, I've found this link:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2012/06/13/remote-desktop-services-what-s-new-in-windows-server-2012-release-candidate.aspx

The second last section mentions "Support for Changing DPI in Remote Sessoins." Having logged into this RDS server, this is not the case, the setting is greyed out just like in Server 2008 R2.

  1. What needs to be done to get this working on both platforms? My end result is I want users to log in and be able to go into the preferences, move the DPI slider to their desired text size and fix their problem without resorting to workarounds like decreasing the resolution of their local PC to increase the apparent size of text.
  2. If this isn't possible, is there a way to configure RDS to run at a lower resolution permanently but to stretch to fit any screen resolution? Right now, if you drop the resolution on an RDP session, it just takes up part of the user's screen. In the newest RDP clients, I notice the Smart Sizing option, but it apparently isn't "smart" enough to stretch higher than the base resolution of the session.

I've looked through literally years of forum posts and articles and nothing seems to point at a user-friendly fix such as take the slider, choose your size, done.

Collections Unavailable on Local Server

I have a 2012 R2 VM configured with all the Remote Desktop Services installed together.  I am using this for RemoteApp functionality.  I have added the apps I want, used my certificate, and everything is working.  I can access all the remoteapps I have added.  From my desktop with remote server manager I can see the "Overview", "Servers", and "Collections -> QuickSessionCollection" for the Remote Desktop Services Server.  When I log in remotely to the VM I only see "Overview" and "Servers", there is no "Collections" option.

Why can I see the "Collections" from my desktop using remote server manager and not inside the server manager locally?  I do not have any idea how to troubleshoot this.

Thanks.

Remote Desktop connects to a 'Black Screen'

$

Hi,

I have a windows 2008 Sp2 server running as a Virtual Server on a windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V Host. The Server is currently the passive node of a CCR cluster in an Exchange 2007Sp2 Mail box Role. We use SCCM to patch the Exchange Environment with the restart suppressed in order to control the reboots and Failover. However recently the patches went out to all our servers and the reboot did not suppress, so as such there was no control on the restarts.

This caused an issue for RDP on two of our servers,

Specifically, a Black Screen on RDP connection

The first Server was the Hyper-V host (2008 R2). We were quickly able to resolve the RDP Black Screen on this server by using the fix of copying the rdpcorekmts.dll file from a non patched windows 2008 R2 Server.

On the second server, a  windows 2008 Sp2 Hyper-V Guest with the Exchange Mailbox role in a CCR Cluster (Currently the Passive Node) we have being unable to find a resolution. Server 2008 Sp2 does not have the rdpcoremts.dll file so this fix was not applicable. When we attempt to RDP the Server we are connecting but only to a Black Screen. The same applies if we try to connect to the Server from the Hyper-V Host mmc. So we have no console or RDP access to this server. However, the Server appears to be functioning normally

I can Ping the Server.

Exchange CCR Copy Status is Healthy. (Currently the Passive Node)

I can Connect to the Admin Shares

I can Remote Registry the Server

I can Remote Services to the Server. All Services including Remote Desktop Service are running

I can Remote the Event Viewer. There are no apparent Errors in the Event Logs to suggest that there is an issue with Remote Desktop.

Firewall and Antivirus are disabled. No routers between Client and Servers.

The Black Screen remains in Safe Mode or Low Resolution startup.

We have booted up from the W2k8 DVD to a command prompt and following the

directions from ‘ Windows Server 2008 Repair Install’ thread we tried

Chkdsk c: /f /r /x

SFC

Startrep.exe

We have used Testdisk to check the integrity of the MBR & MFT-

We have Run Remote Desktop with administrator privilege from Windows 7 Desktops, Windows XP, Windows 2008 & 2003 Servers. All leading to a Black Screen

We have tried mstsc /admin /v:[server ip]

We attempted to reinstall the RDP Client.

We also tried a number of other fixes that relate to the registry settings HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Control Panel Colurs

As yet, none of the above have fixed the issue and we are running out of ideas

Thank you in advance for any possible Help

Barry.

Azure Pack Private Cloud RDP GateWay Configuration Console Access

$

Hello,

We are in the process of deploying the Azure Pack Private Cloud and have run into an issue with configuration of the Console Access.  We have been able to successfully configure the Console to work internally but external access is not functional.  When a user attempts to connect from Windows 8.1 to the RDP Console via the Remote Desktop Services Gateway they are seeing the error:

An Authentication error has occurred (code 0x607)

Internal access works flawlessly.

Environment: Windows Server 2012r2 Data Center, fully updated

Windows Azure Pack RTM - Distributed Installation - 7 VMs - wapadmapi1, wapadmauth1, wapadmprtl1, waptenauth1, waptenprtl1, waptenpriapi1, waptenpubapi1

System Center 2012r2 Components: VMM, Service Provider Foundation, SCORCH, SCOM

SQL Server 2012 Enterprise SP1 running on Server 2012r2

Hyper-V Failover Cluster 2012r2

Wildcard Certificate has been assigned and RDP Gateway/VMM/SPF/Hyper-V have been configured as per http://www.hyper-v.nu/archives/mvaneijk/2013/09/windows-azure-pack-console-connect/ (PS this article needs to be updated because the set-scspfvmconnectglobalsettings cmdlet doesn't work on RTM) and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/library/dn469415.aspx

Lockdown Policy for new users RDP Cals? HELP!

$

I have been trying to figure this out. We have purchased 5 RDP Cals and have terminal server license all setup now. I have created two users called Office1 and Office2 and created a group called test which they are now apart of. I want to edit the group policy so that when Office1-5 connect through Remote Desktop they only see our Point Of sale software and nothing else no access to my computer, start button, no start up programs etc. I was able to edit some stuff in Local Group Policy like remove Run from the start menu under administrator templates but that also removed it from my administrator log in and is not specific to Office1-5. I saw a few posts online that I can setup environments using Group Policy Management..I installed it but when I open it I get a error saying "To manage group policy you must log on to the computer with a domain user account." Seems like it wants me to setup domain controller which I do not want to do since all our computers are already setup on a work group. Any help would be great if you have experience with this or can point me in the right direction!!!!

Remote Desktop Services is slow

I have 2 physical Windows 2012 R2 servers configured as Remote Desktop Session Hosts behind a RD Connection Broker. The servers have more than enough resources. I currently only have 11 users per server. And all my users are complaining it is too slow. The only thing coming to mind is slow responce from the User Profile Disks on my file server. It is a windows 2003 (SMB 1) server. Wil it perform better if I upgrade the server to 2012? Or should I migrate my users from UserProfile Disks toold fashionedroamingprofiles, and how do I do that?

When trry to access to VM Win Serv 2012 R2 received certificate error "The certificate has been revoked and is not safe to use'.

Hello team,

I am unable to access to one of my VM using OS Windows Server 2012 R2.

When I type my credentials, I received the error below:

"The certificate has been revoked and is not safe to use".

The certificate autodiscover.msftsupport.us is not in use for this server.

 Certificate error

When I try to connect from the DC using the RD Licensing Diagnoser I received the error below:

SSL Certificate question (minor issue)

I have a Windows 2012 server setup with RDS.  I have about 10 virtual machines already setup - my whole VDI infrastructure.  Everything is working fine - accessing the vm's internally and externally, however, I have issues w/the certificate.

I am using a self-signed certificate (until I can my client to pay for a real SSL cert).

I have created an A record for my DNS at my hosting company that points to my public IP (e.g. remote.mycompany.com instead of typing in the IP address), the port forwarding on my router kicks in and sends the https traffic to my RD Gateway (my Windows 2012) and the user will see the RDWeb page and can log in from there.  The cert is pointed to remote.mycompany.com too.  However, my server is called vdi-remote2.mycompany.com.  Naturally, when using IE to access the RDWeb page, their address bar in IE will be red with the cert error/warning.

First they are greeted with the "There is a problem with this website's security certificate" and will click on continue to the this website.  Upon inspection of the certificate, it will say "This CA Root certificate is not trusted.  To enable trust, install this certificate in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store."  Ok, I can install it (and have), but I still get the red address bar in my IE.

Needless to say, I'd like to clean this all up.  The users are non-technical people and when they see this stuff, they freak out.  We know what it all means - we're technical folks, but I'd like to clean it all up and just have it nice and security. Green or no address bar when using https in the address bar.

How can I clean this all up though when I have external users accessing https://remote.mycompany.com/rdweb and internal users accessing https://vdi-remote2/rdweb.  I don't recall the possibility to have two certs for one website (the RDWeb).  So, I'm a bit confused on all this cert stuff.  I could keep everything as is and just train the users, but I'd rather not.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Event ID's 4005, 50 and 56 on Server 2008 R2 RDS

My event log's are being hammered with Event 4005 The Windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated, Event 50 The Terminal Server security layer detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the clientand Event 56 The RDP protocol component <component> detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.

I have followed the suggestions in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc734097(v=ws.10).aspx and searched on this without finding a solution to make the events go away.

I also tried following this suggestion to remove two Windows Updates (even though I have Win 2008 Standard R2 and not SBS) http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/dd7157b8-8ecc-4a13-88ad-f4ca0d3b3249/error-the-windows-logon-process-has-unexpectedly-terminated?forum=smallbusinessserver

I have cross referenced the dates & times of these events with a login audit file I keep and hoping to find a pattern related to specific users but no luck.

Before I open a paid support ticket, I just want to find out if there is any common thread to these Event ID's.

Can these be caused by:

1) an RDP worm/malware?

2) Macintosh RDP clients?

3) Disconnected session being logged off after 2 hrs by policy?

Generic RDS Questions re: RemoteApp

Greetings everyone,

I am looking into Windows Server 2012 for a RDS solution.  I'm hoping to use the RemoteApp functionality.  If an app published via RemoteApp needs to launch a secondary app like Excel or Outlook, does it launch the local client's copy or does the secondary app need to be installed on the server in order for this to work?  Thanks for your time in advance.

Cheers!

Black Window in RemoteApp After Minimize RDS2012/WIN8 & Multiple Monitors

$

Hi All,

I have a Server 2012 RDS farm with a handful of RemoteApps published.  I have about 150 users running these applications.  We are having issues with computers running Windows 8/8.1 that have multiple monitors.  We can run the RemoteApps fine but when we minimize the app and then try to restore it, we get a black window.  The only way to fix it is to right click the app in the taskbar, choose close window, and reopen the app.  This only seems to happen on Windows 8/8.1 machines with multiple monitors.  If I disconnect the second monitor then the app can be minimized and restored without issue.  The monitors in use do have different screen resolutions but this shouldn't matter as RDS is supposed to support this.  I have not seen this issue on any of my Windows 7 computers.  Is there any settings that I should be looking?  I don't think this is an app issue as I can recreate the problem using MS Word as a RemoteApp.  In most cases, additional monitors are connected via USB using DisplayLink devices.

Thanks for your help!

Roaming Profile - Error copying file (2012 R2)

$

Getting Event ID 1509 & 1540. 1540 is a generic error saying the profile failed and it is loading a local one. 1509 reads as follows:

Windows cannot copy file \\?\UNC\domain.com\Shared\RDSProfiles\user.V2\6A6DCA49-668C-4DD1-8A7F-9D5B61E8EE92.tmp to location \\?\C:\Users\user\6A6DCA49-668C-4DD1-8A7F-9D5B61E8EE92.tmp. This error may be caused by network problems or insufficient security rights.

DETAIL - The system cannot find the file specified.

Looking in that folder on the network, the file definitely isn't there, so it make sense that it would fail to copy. This is happening across all profiles on this session host. The file name is exactly the same for all users.

Why is it trying to copy this file that doesn't exist at either location? How do I correct this so the roaming profile loads properly?

Is it possible to migrate local profiles to user profile disks?

Hi guys,

Is there an easy way to migrate local user profiles on an remote desktop server to user profile disks? I am replacing a Server 2008 R2 and want to start using UPD's instead on a Server 2012 R2.

Windows 2012 R2 - Intermittent RDP Printing

$

0

Hello!

I have built a Windows 2012 R2 server with Remote Desktop Services running on it.  Remote users are having trouble with inconsistent printing through their RDP clients.  Their printers show up as redirected printers and do print sometimes, but other times nothing prints - the user click print, select their printer, and nothing shows up.  Later it will just start working for them again.  The problem seems to be universal - it is happening on clients with different versions of Windows, different printer models, and different printer manufacturers.  Has anyone seen this?  Are there any hotfixes for this that I can install?  I have all of the latest Windows Updates installed.

Thanks... Dave
