I need help with Terminal Services between Win 8 and Server 2008 R2 if anyone knows! COM port redirection is not working! I've got it enabled in the RDP icon on the client as well asComputer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Serviceson both the client and the server (Do not allow COM port redirection set to disabled) and RDP-Tcp Properties (Client Settings all unchecked).

Anyone got any ideas?

RDS Servers Virtual Memory is low

Hello All,

I have managed to setup an RDS Farm with Windows server  2008 R2 .

Basically everything works fine , connected to domain and so on.

I have 3 Physical host sessions servers with 32GB Memory installed on each. They are all running 2008 server 64x. I have about 10 Users which I published a remote apps ( Internet explorer, Google chrome and outlook 2013 )

The problem :

Sometimes, all of a sudden, clients are disconnected from the server and get the error :

"Your computer does not have enough virtual memory available." ( Screenshot is attached )

What could be the reason for that error? Which computer is running out of memory? The remote computer or the local One?

If further information is needed please tell.

Please help .

Thanks in Advance!

Users not showing in Terminal Server Under Remote desktop services manager and Task Manager

Hi All,

I have a problem here in Terminal Server. I can not see the users logged in to Server but i know users are accessing the files and currently working.

1. From the Task Manager-- Show processes from all users displayed all the processes accessing by users.

2. From the Task Manager-- From Users Tab--No users list at all

3. From the Command Prompt- Query users-- No information

4. From the Remote desktop services Manager-- used with IP/Host name-- Still can not see the users list and processes. So i can not kill the session if needed.

Enviroment:

TS CALS 20 currently accessing 15 users

VM-WARE GUEST: 2008 RS Terminal Services/Remote Desktop services installed

Windows up to date-- Just updated last month

Problem is here for long time. Just couldn't find the time to trouble shoot.

Unable to install Device CALs on Windows Server 2012 after OS Reinstall

Due to a hardware fault we had to reinstall Windows Server 2012. I have activated the Terminal Services licensing Server but I am unable to install Device CALs that we have purchased.

The error is as follows:

"Remote Desktop Services Licensing is unable to process your request. Make sure you provided correct information. If the problem persists, try other methods of activation. Error code is 800"

I tried contacting technical support over phone - they are also unable to resolve the issue.

Certificate issues

Hi all. I have recently set up a server 2012 RDS environment consisting of 4 virtual machines, one RDS gateway machine and 3 hosts and I have run into several issues in configuration of certificates. The RDS gateway server is configured using an SSL certificate issued by Janet as we are an educational body. When I open Outlook 2013 from any one of the RDS hosts machines a certificate security alert pops up stating 'The security certificate was issued by a company you have chosen not to trust,' I can of course click 'yes' to proceed but of course this is clunky and needs to be configured in such a way to stop the security warning so if there is someone who has been here before and can offer some advice on server certificate config on RDS 2012 I would be very gratefull :/

Mac keyboard shortcuts translating into Windows RDS

I am trying to find a way to get Mac keyboard shortcut to translate into Windows RDS

We have a three site connected network with a central file at our main office. This file store is served through a Virtual Windows file server and all of the windows users connect to the file store and associated applications using Microsoft Remote desktop servers.

Most of the time this works well for the Mac users, however, many of them are Adobe Creative suite users and work most of the time using Mac keyboard shortcuts. This does not translate from the local Mac user into a Windows TS environment

Therefore I need a find a solution to allow us to translate the Mac keyboard shortcut across the RDS into the Windows Adobe Creative suite applications

Does anyone have any great ideas, or aware of any third party applications that may be able to help us

User Profile Disks - Backup/Restore

I was considering deploying User Profile Disks in my 2012 R2 RDS environment instead of Roaming Profiles / Folder Redirection.

However, I have noticed a potential flaw unless someone can shed some light on this. With UPD being relatively new there is limited documentation on this.

If I backup my UPD directory (stored on a central server), and / or my Terminal Servers and I use a backup product which allows granular file-level restore. Initial testing shows that this won't work as you would want it to e.g. I can restore the VHDX associated with the UPD but cannot restore the individual files stored on the UPD e.g. a single word document.

This leads me to think it is more beneficial to use the tried and tested Roaming Profiles / Folder Redirection combo. Or indeed, possibly deselect the UPD option for Documents etc. and combine UPD with Folder Redirection.

Or does anyone have any further info on this?

How to specify Host Server for Replicated Virtual Desktops within RDVH Collection

$

My question about how to specify Host Server for Replicated Virtual Desktops within Collection.
I know there is a aswered thread on this, but that solution (wait a week) didn't work for me.

So i have 2 servers, RDS01 and RDS02 with both 15 Hyper-V VM's and replicating to eachother. That part works fine.
Now I wanted to make it easy for my users I build a Connection Broker: RDCB

All went fine in that setup, but when I want to add the existing VM's from RDS01 and RDS02 to the collection it just radomly adds running ones and replicated ones.

So both RDS01 and RDS02 have 15 VM's running and 15 replica's in stopped state, but when I look in my collection, it says RDS01 has 23 and RDS02 has 7 VM's. When I add them all, I see he wants to add a lot of stopped states replica's from RDS01 instead of the running ones from RDS02.

How can I specify which one he should use? Or need I disable replication first, setup the whole RDCB collection thing, and then turn replication back on? Or does Hyper-V replication not work at all when used in a collection?

I hope someone can help out here. I'm googling and trying for 1,5 week now, but i can;t get it right.

Thanks in advance.

Unsolicited Remote Assistance (msra.exe /offera) windows 7 to windows 7

Hello,

I have used group policy to enable Unsolicited Remote Assistance to Domain Computers:

... & set Windows Firewall to allow Remote Assistance:

Logged on to a domain computer, in lusrmgr.msc I can see that the appropriate groups are added to the Offer Remote Assistance group and can telnet "computer name" 135 to that domain computer - group policy as been applied correctly. All PC's are fully up to date with Windows Update.

When I initiate msra.exe /offera to the domain computer I have confirmed *should* work I get:

Image

(There was a problem interacting with COM object 833E4010-AFF7-4AC3-AAC2-9F24C1457BCE.  An outdated version might be installed, or the component might not be installed at all.)

This is in eventvwr.msc of the computer initiating the Remote Assistance session.

How can I resolve this?

Thanks

Purchase and configure SSL X.509 Certificate

Hello

I want to implement RDS on a Windows Standard 2012 R2 OS in our company network. I want to use the Remote Desktop Gateway for users to connect remote(over internet) to 4 Windows 7 PC's in the LAN. I tested things out in a Virtual Environment before implementing.

In the test lab i used self signed certificates to make things work. Now i want to start the real implementation in the company. I have a question about the purchase of the SSL X.509 Certificate. Can i buy such a certificate by a company like Godaddy.com? Is the certificate that Remote Desktop Gateway uses the same certificate that web servers use?

When purchasing the certificate do i have to fill in the domainname of the company only (company.com) or do i have to add the computer name of the server that is acting as Remote Desktop Gateway (computername.company.com)

I have no experience with purchasing certificates thus any help is welcome.

Thanks

Hello,

French, I apologize for my language mistakes ...

1.- Windows Server 2008 R2 with terminal services have been installed.
2.- Remote control of a user session with the remote desktop services.
3.- Open a document (Word, Excel, PDF ...).
4.- File / Print
5.- Selecting the mapped printer of the remote user with the print driver "easy print".

==> If I select "Print Settings", a window appears telling me:

"This printer has been redirected by the client Remote Desktop Connection."
"The print settings are automatically displayed in another window, etc.."

My problem: this window does not appear so i don't change anything!!!

Can you help me?

Thanks,

SSO Web Apps within Remote Desktop

Hello All,

i have a server 2012 R2 farm and i have 2 collections of servers, both are Session Hosts.

1 is desktops and 1 is RemoteApps

If i log into the web access servers to display the Apps and the Desktop collection, I can open all apps and desktop without additional creds.

If i open the desktop session and add the remote apps in control panel i always get a prompt for creds when opening them.

i have applied the credential delegation GPO to the OU with the servers, Users etc as its not too clear when i am to apply these and it still does not work, am i missing something?

i think, from looking at other posts that i cannot apply the remote apps from a GPO as i get the following error in the Event logs:

Remote application (Internet Explorer) is launched on RemoteApp and Desktop connection (broker.xxxx.com) but no stored credentials are used for single sign on. (Reason - No credentials are stored on the RemoteApp and Desktop connection)

Any suggestions guys

Thanks

Luke

RDS Session Host asking for Smart Card

$

I set up an RDS farm with gateway/rd web and has been working fine

I've gone to demo it and when logging into the session host(2012R2) it is now asking to insert a smartcard

I have done some troubleshooting that others have suggested but no luck?

Interactive logon-> Require Smart card is set to disabled local GPO

Smart Card Enumeration service is set to disabled

On the gateway login type has been set to 0 (password NTLM)

Any ideas?

Thanks

Robbie

Can I use Windows Server 2012 RDS CALS

Licensing for Remote Desktop Gateway

$

Hello

I searched a lot on several forum to gain an answer to my question. There is a lot of misunderstanding out there on the need for licensing for the Remote Desktop Gateway.

I want to implement only the server role Remote Desktop Gateway for 20 users to connect remote to Window 7 computers in the LAN. The 20 remote users initiate the connection from they're own Windows 7 Laptop. The connection is:

Windows 7 --- Remote Desktop Gateway --- Windows 7

The remote users use software for production environments (PLC/DCS) on the Windows 7 computers in the LAN. So in this situation the remote users will not connect to session host servers (terminal servers). They only use the gateway to act as a proxy for RDP connections to the Windows 7 PC's in the LAN.

What kind of licensing do i need for this situation?

Do i need RDCAL's?

Do i need Windows server device CAL's for the 20 devices of the 20 users that initiate the connection to the gateway?

Thanks

RDS stops working suddenly and remote desktop users can't connect

I am running Windows Server 2012 (x64) and I have remote desktop services running along with my RD Virtualization Host that is hosting about 10 Win 7 Enterprise virtual machines.  I have my collections setup and users are assigned their own virtual machine.

The end users connect to their VM via RDP (from a VPN connection from their office to the HQ office where all this is hosted).  The VPN connection is fine (because I can ping both networks back and forth and browse the network).

The issue I have, which is a mystery, is that the remote connections just stop.  No warning or anything.  If the user is already remotely connected, they get disconnected.  If a user tried to remote in, it won't happen.  So far, my only solution has been to just restart the server.  Which seems to clear up the issue for about 5-6 hours, until this happens again.  So, the past two days, I've restarted my server about 4-5 times.  That's not normal.

When I inspect the server:

  • All services are running normally (file and storage services, hyper-v, IIS, NAP, Remote Desktop Services, local server.  All the services that need to be running are running
  • Nothing in the Application or System event viewer to give me any clues

I have not tried to remotely connect to a virtual machine from inside the network (from the same LAN or subnet).  I'll have to try that if/when this problem happens again.

I can't find any issue that would cause this.  Inspecting the server, everything tells me there is not a single problem happening and any user should be able to connect to their virtual machine with no issue.  Maybe I missing something?  Not looking in the correct place?

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance for your help.

Connect RDP session to RDSH farm

Hi

I have a query on connecting RDP clients, e.g. thin clients, to an RDS server farm. I have 3 servers, two running the RDSH role, and 1 running all of the other roles, including gateway and rdweb. This works fine using RDweb to a published app or desktop with no issues.

What I am wondering is, what is the best way of connecting an RDP client to the RDSH servers? I have seen people just use round robin DNS, so create a DNS record e.g. rdsfarm.domain.com and create one record for each RDSH server IP address. Then just use that name to connect. This works, but I am wondering if there is a better way of doing it? With round robin, what happens when one server is down? Surely in that case DNS would still return the IP, and a client may try and connect to a server that was offline. I don't have a hardware load balancer.

Thanks
