UAG 2010 and RDS 2012

Does the RDS Gateway built into UAG 2010 intergrate with a Windows 2012 RDS infrastructure?

And can UAG 2010 be used to publish applications and desktops from Windows 2012 RDS?

simply want 5 users to uses a small Microsoft access database concurrently on LAN & WAN

I have been looking at server 2012 std to do this but am I using a hammer to crack a nut?

Looking at creating a remote gateway but now needs to be a domain controller..!

remote access works on the server but only 2 connections are allowed at any one time, otherwise that would have done it.

Can anyone advise of the simplest way to have 5-8 users to concurrently access a database on the server via a couple on the LAN, and the rest remote home based users?

IS server 2003/2008 simpler?

Many thanks in advance.

RDS 2012 R2 + User Profile Disks - corrupt ntuser.dat after RDS Host crashes

I have an RDS 2012 R2 Session host collection set up with a connection broker and with UPD's running off a share with Server 2008 R2. All worked great.. until one of the Session Hosts crashed/blue screened and dumped the users.

When the users reconnected from the server that crashed, they all logged in with temporary profiles.  After a bunch of testing and troubleshooting I found that the ntuser.dat file in their UPD's became corrupt.  We have 1 Session host that seems to have an issue with occasional blue screening and it's causing a significant pain to consistently have to re-create the user profile disks of the users that were logged in if a session host is powered down abruptly.

I really like the feature, but I'm starting to look at alternatives.  The content in the profile disks isn't super critical, it's primarily shortcuts and program settings but it's annoying for users when they reset.

anyone else seeing similar issues?  any suggestions to dealing with it? (i'm trying to avoid doing regular backups of a "convenience feature").

Server 2012: Remote Desktop + RemoteApp = No GPP Mapped Drives for 2nd Session

Setting up and testing a new 2012 Remote Desktop/RemoteApp server.

We have Group Policy Preferences mapping drives (S for Shared, U for User).  Also have logging turned on for GPP Drives.

Possibly relevant Group Policy settings:

  • Computer/Policies/Administrative Templates/System/Logon/Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon: Enabled
  • Computer/Policies/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Remote Desktop Services/Remote Desktop Session Host/Connections/Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single Remote Desktop Services session: I've tried 'Not Configured' (2008+ should restrict to a single session by default right?) and 'Enabled' without change of behavior

Scenario 1:  When I log in with a full Remote Desktop I get my mapped drives.  If I leave this session either Active or Disconnected and open a published RemoteApp (WordPad for example) I get a 2nd session (viewed from the CONNECTIONS list from Server Manager) but no mapped drives (File/Open in WordPad does not show mapped drives.

Scenario 2: (From no Active/Disconnected sessions) - When I do the opposite - open up RemoteApp WordPad I get the mapped drives.  If I leave this session Active or Disconnected and open a full Remote Desktop I get a 2nd session again and no mapped drives.  The full Remote Desktop login window went by really fast here - I usually see "Applying Drive Maps...", etc... but I didn't see it here - either it didn't process it or it went by so fast I couldn't see.

GPP Mapped Drive logs are not updating on the 2nd session created (looks like GPP Mapped Drives are not getting called)

I run these tests on a 2008r2 RD/RemoteApp server and I get the mapped drives in the 2nd session in both scenarios above.  GPP Mapped Drive logs still do not update on the 2nd session (so I assume this is by design).

I'm assuming it shares session settings for drive maps in 2008r2 but not in 2012 (? from what I can see how in 2008r2 the 2nd session does not update the GPP Mapped Drive logs).

How can I get GPP Mapped Drives to show up in Remote Desktop AND RemoteApps?

Thanks

-Andrew

Hyper-V Starting Machine's Randomly

I have been using Hyper-V for 6 months now and its working great. One issue I am having is that , seemingly randomly , it starts several machines that are in a saved state and leaves them running until I shut them off. It causes major issues because I have 100+ Virtual machines each assigned with 4GB of ram in a system with only 64GB. This is a RDweb setup with only 10 users who only use 1 machine at a time so it is never an issue.

I cannot seem to find any info on why this is happening. My best guess would be that the machine is undergoing some sort of maintenance.

Why is this happening whilst configuring RDP

Hi,

Sorry if I am in the wrong forum but this has happened whilst configuring RDS hence I thought I will post it here.

I am  trying to configure RDS in my lab I have all the roles installed on my RDS server apart from licensing server which is installed on DC. I don't have clue why is this happening and at what stage of RDS configuration this appears. When I initially configured the DNS it was just with the server name e.g. SERVER1 somewhere in configuring the RDS DNS server name changed to SERVER1.sco.local (sco.local is the domain name).

Does anyone why is happening or what is causing it to happen

RSAT in Server 2012R2 for RDS Session management

Trying to setup a 2012R2 server, to be able to remotely manage a number of Remote Destop Services servers, particularly to manage the individual sessions of RD users. Apparently this should be able to be done with the Server management tools within 2012R2, but I cannot find this option anywhere.

Apparently the RSAT are supposed to be already installed, and available through add/remove features, but it does not appear anywhere I can find.

Can someone point me in the correct direction?

Thanks.

Could not remove RD virtualization host from the pool

$

Hello All,

We are testing Windows Server 2012 VDI and got in situation that I could consider unreliable. Hope there is a quick fix to it ...

The case is:

Three servers 2012 installed

Remote Desktop Services roles instaled on Server1 using standard deployment wizard - Virtual machine-based desktop deployment.

RD Connection broker is Server1.

Server2 and Server3 added to the deployment afterwrds. Server2 is Hyper-V server 2012.

The system worked for sometime. No problem.

The issue - Server2 has been destroyed before removing it from virtualization host collection.

Now it is not possible to remove the Server2 name from the virtualization host collection.

After "Remove RD Virtualization host servers" the result is

"Failed.

Could not remove the configuration.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Any ideas how to remove the destroyed virtualization host from the collection?

I am running WS2012, is it possible to run a workgroup computer running session host on a server that has web access, and connection broker installed. If it is can someone give me some direction on how it can be accomplished? Every time i try to manage the computer on the domain connected server i get a kerberos target resolution failed warning under the server group.

how do RDP clients obtain license from host/license server?

Hi,

I have a W2k8 R2 server setup with Remote Desktop Session Host and Licensing. This will be used to allow more than 2 RDP connections to a server.

Can someone explain the process from the client side, getting the license from the host/licensing server, then connect to the server they need to manage?

What configuration is needed on the client/server side to know it needs check for a RDP license?

Thanks in advance,

J

2012 RDS: Non-Administrators can not access VDI pool

$

I am currently setting up server 2012 VDI using 2 servers. A connection broker, web access, licenseing server and a VM Host server. I have followed the wizards, created my master image, created the collection, and setup group policy to add the group I want to give RDS access to Allow log on through terminal services & Remote Desktop Users group.

When I connect using my admin account everything works, it connects to the connection broker and then forwards to one of the running VMs.

When I connect using a non-admin account I am prompted with: The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login. I also get the following in the event log:

TerminalServices-SessionBroker

RD Connection Broker failed to process the connection request for user ***\****.
Failed to find Resource Plugin OR an end point for the user.
Error: Access is denied.

TerminalService-SessionBroker-Client

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed while getting redirection packet from Connection Broker.
User : ***\****
Error: Element not found.

--

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user ***\****
Error: NULL

I searched the internet high and low and I can not figure this out. I have even put the the non-admin users in the remote desktop users on the server just to see what would happen, same results if trying to connect to the pool. But I am able to connect directly to the server. I am also able to directly connect to a VM in the pool using a non-admin account.

Any help would be appreciated.

RD Gateway in DMZ with RODC, computer password updates

$

We're bringing up an RDP 2012 farm which will have a pair of Gateway servers out in the DMZ.  After considering our options with respect to AD membership, we would prefer to use the RODC approach as we already have one in the DMZ.  My confusion is about communication that requires write access, like updating the computer account password in AD.  I see the approach is a recommended method form Microsoft, but how are issues such as the account password change addressed?

I found http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2009/02/15/test2.aspx that talks about disabling the password change on the machine, but is there a better way than registry hacks to make this work, or am I completely overthinking the whole situation?

I'm aware we could also setup a reverse proxy, setup a DMZ domain and create a 1-way trust, or open all the ports necessary for communication through the firewall, but this option seems best for us.

RDS Gateway Frequent Disconnects

We are using a RDS Gateway on Windows 2012 R2 and connecting to a Windows 2012 RDS Farm. We are getting some random disconnects though. They happen anywhere from 2 minutes in to 50 minutes into the session. If the RDS Gateway is used to connect to the server acting as a gateway though the connection never drops.

Stuck processing first VM when generating new RDS Pool Collection

I'm trying to add a Pooled Virtual Desktop Collection to my RDS Server and I've hit a wall.  I can see the first VM created in Hyper-V, everything looks good, but when I look at the "Task Status Details" for the VM the status is "in progress".  The setup never moves to the second VM.  Am I missing something here?
