Virutal Desktop Infrastructure RDS Pooled - Profile Disks

Hello,

I believe this is a bug within the profile directory.  We have an RDS farm using profile disk.  We use Google apps for education as our email service.  When trying to use Apps shortcut it asking you to log in even when you are logged in.  When trying to install in App we receive an error "Could not install package: 'COULD_NOT_GET_TEMP_DIRECTORY'".  This happens for all users, even Enterprise Admins.  It seems like a permissions issue with in the profile.  Tried assigning full permissions to the C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data folder with no joy.

Any advise would be helpful.  Thank you.

RDS without RDCB with external licencing server

Managing RDS with clustered RDCB from RDS

Hi,

our team have all their support tools on one Windows Server 2012 R2 machine. Team consist from more that 2 members, so RDSH and RDCB roles was installed on this server.

We need to support clients who are logged on RDS with clustered RDCB role.

The problem: after we add all needed servers to Server Manager, there is an error we receive:

"The server pool does not match the RD Connection Brokers that are in it. Error:

1. The server pool contains RD Connection Broker servers that are both clustered and not clustered."

How can we solve this problem?

MS Remote App Inverted colors

Using Remote App on Server 2012. When the client connects from a Windows 7 or 8 computer certain screens show inverted colors. Happens most often for scroll bars and file manager screens (as seen below).

Tried setting the registry value Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\bitmapCacheSize to false, this improved a few screens but not all. Any other ideas? Using remote desktop does not have this problem, but not a solution for the client.

VDI Template Export Location

Hello,

I have a 2 node Hyper-V Failover Cluster with RDS deployed.   The Virtual Desktop Template Export location is a single point of failure if left to the default location of the C: drive of your connection broker.     My thought is to create a clustered file server node and set the export location to that share.

Question 1:  Has anyone used a clustered file server for the export location?

Question 2:  How do you move the Export location of already deployed Desktop Collections when it is greyed out as shown below?

Question 3:  I understand that when you create a desktop collection the Master Template is copied to the Export location but then how is this different than the Parent location?  Is that just another copy of the Export?

Errors trying to launch apps

We seem to have setup the Server 2012 RDS ok. We can login with Http://.../rdweb and we get a really nice, polished app launch screen (ala Citrix) but when we click on the app to run (from the WAN side...works fine INSIDE the LAN) we get the following error:

"Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server address requested and the certificate subject name do not match. Contact your network administrator for assistance."

We are using a self signed cert. I have tried using the internal FQDN as well as a WAN FQDN. Neither works.

What am I doing wrong? I need to get this working ASAP so any forward moving suggestions are welcomed. Academic discussions can wait until I get this setup for our client to use.

DWM.exe memory consumption

Hi.

I have a farm of RDS servers on Windows Server 2012. DWM.exe consumes 10-40% of memory used by every connected user.

Win2008 has Desktop Window Manager service that consumes 10 times less memory and could be disabled.

Is there some way to disable Desktop Windows Manager (dwn.exe) in Windows Server 2012 or reduce memory consumption?

Web App Printer List showing printers from old TS Sessions

We have a client using a web based app.  Part of the App, when printing uses a drop down list embedded in the App for Printer Selection.  This list shows over 100 printers from previously connected sessions making for an extremely cluttered list in which it is very difficult to find the correct printer.  We need a way to clean out this list, the App Developer has been completely unhelpful with this issue.

Thanks,

Matt

RDS 2012 issues after disabling SSL 3.0

Hi all, we have Server 2012 R2 RDS infrastructure. I have 2 servers running RD web, gateway, and conn broker using Windows network load balancing. 3 RDSH servers behind them handling user workload.

Last night I disabled SSL 3.0 on both of these servers using the registry key 'Enabled' set to zero in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 3.0\Server. Servers were rebooted after this change.

I did not disable SSL 3.0 on the RDSH servers yet, but I don't think it matters in this situation because the SSL traffic only passes between the remote computer and the RDGW server, AFAIK.

Today all the remote users were having issues with remote desktop sessions disconnecting them, but they would reconnect after a short time. They all told me this is unusual, normally the connections are quite stable. After I turned SSL 3.0 back on and rebooted, no more issues, users are happy. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that can be done to stabilize connections while SSL 3.0 is disabled?

RDS Licensing Problem on Server 2012 R2- Can't convert Installed Licenses to Available Licenses

Hello Technet Folks,

I have a smallish problem with a RDS deployment on three RDS servers.

RDS1 -> Has all the roles (Licensing, Gateway, Web Access, Broker, Session Host)

RDS2 & RDS3 -> Session Host

So far, everything except licencing works well enough.

On the Event Viewer, I get errors with these ID's : 1306, 802 and 1296. I did some research and found out these are usually related to license problems.

http://www.stollfus.com/?cat=61

I also confirmed the licensing problem with a License Diagnoser:

I also see that I have 100 Installed licenses but no available licenses for some reason. I think I need to convert from installed to available licenses but I do not know how to do that.

One more thing to add is that, this setup has been rebuilt (removed all roles, added them back again for a different setup) and the licences were installed on the first setup.

Thank you!

Setting Preferred RDS server for user, security group or OU

Hi Guys,

Hope someone knows the answer to this.

The plan is to build 3 win2k12 RDS session based servers, with a broker over 2 sites.

We have users in Head office and Remote office.

What we would like is when users connect to the broker that it will connect them to their local server first and then remote server if the local server is unavailable. (Without using two DNS address.) So that is if they are at the remote site they connect to the remote server, if they are in the head office they would connect to one of there preferred server. I am not to fussed what method is used to determine preferred server. EG: Security group, OU, or user configuration.

Also we will have users connecting from external to internal, using a DNS name of the head office. EG: RDS.domain.com.au.

What we would like is the preferred server to working from external to internal so they are connected to there local server, even though they are connecting from external Public IP.

Thanks for your help.

Remote Desktop version 8.0 vs older versions

$

KB2969259 addresses security updates for Remote Desktop version 8.0.  In the article the question of previous versions of Remote Desktop appears to indicate that previous versions are no longer supported by Microsoft.

"I am using an older release of the software discussed in this security bulletin. What should I do?
The affected software listed in this bulletin has been tested to determine which releases are affected. Other releases are past their support life cycle. For more information about the product lifecycle, see the Microsoft Support Lifecycle website."

Is this referring to an older release of Remote Desktop or and older release of the Windows operating system?  Is the version of Remote Desktop that was released with Windows 7 SP1 still supported?  Will Microsoft release security vulnerability patches for this if applicable?

Desktop Remote over internet login&listener port issue

$

Hi,

I try to do standard Desktop Remote Connection over internet with 3389 port. Both computers on Windows 8.

Everything works fine until the login.

I spent some time on the internet to check for possible problems: the only thing I didn't manage to do is make the computer that accesses the other computer to have the port 3389 show in the list of listening ports. The computer that needs to be accessed remotely has the port listed as listening port. I did try the standard procedure but when I hit "netstat -a" the port is not there.

Any advise?

On Remote Desktop over internet the credentials are not recognized. Although I did add the users to be able to connect remotely.

I also tried VPN with 1723 port. It does recognize the login but then it gives 720 error stating that the network settings need to be changed.

The server computer runs Windows 8 Pro and the client computer runs Windows 8 Home. Could this be a problem?

Also the server is on static IP and the client is on dynamic IP. Is this an issue?

RD Web Access high availability

I'm looking for information regarding how to deploy highly available 2012 RD web access servers. There seems to be little or no information online. Does anyone have any experience of setting this up? I would like to run two RD web access servers in an active/active model. Also can anyone give any insight into whether this role is happy to be installed on HA RDCB servers too?

Many thanks

RDP Client Issue

Hi all

We have a strange issue with the Microsoft RDP Client - Every day at some point a user will contact us with this and its driving me insane.

What happens is - the User will click the RDP link on the desktop Enter their password and hit enter - what happens then is the program minimizes to the taskbar ,cannot be maximized and I have to kill the mstc process in Task manager and either log off , restart and or delete the registry key MSLICENSING

Its not happening with everyone but it happens on a daily basis  - Terminal Server is 2008 R2 and all clients are Window 7

The users have a shortcut on their desktop to resourses in another office using the format \\192.168.100.100\Server\Share\

I cant help feeling this issue is attached to this as , when one works the other doesnt and vice-versa  only a restart will get both working . If the remote desktop session is open , users clicking the Resouirses link get the circular "Working" Icon and the link never opens

There are no relating events either on the local client or the Terminal Server and it has me stumped

really appreciate some help or guidance of what to try

Thanks

James

print to lpt1 where remote desktop client has usb printer

$

I have a client with an usb printer and need to print an UPS label report from Microsoft Dynamic NAV on an remote server that prints only to LPT1. I've set the client printer as shared printer and selected LPT1 and USB ports.  When the client is connected to the server through remote desktop, the redirected printer can print a test print but running the report from the application on the server will not print  to the client's printer.  The report shows that it was sent to LPT1 but there are no errors or print jobs in the printer queue.  I've also tried to use "net use" to set up the shared printer to LPT1 but that didn't work either.  And I've installed the printer on the server to LPT1 as well and that did not work either.

Any help is greatly appreciated.  The server is Windows Server 2008 R2 and the client is Windows 7.

Thanks,

We have an issue with RDS on Server 2012.

Local printers aren't being redirected?

Is this a printer compatibility issue?
