When connect using "connect to a remote", the traffic do not route to remote desktop gateway. How to fix ?

Hi,

I have installed all RDS roles service and registered all RDS role with Enterprise CA web server cert.

When I am initiate RDP connection through (RemoteApp and Desktop), I can achieve the goal I need. the remote session will route to gateway and connect to destination server via SSL traffic.

RemoteApp and Desktops

Problem I face:

When I am initiate my remote session via (Remote to server), the server connect establish direct connect to the destination server using 3389 without routing traffic to gateway first. Anyway I can force the connection to gateway?

I have changed all configuration possible from group policy and remote connection services setting but this does not solved the problem.

The aggregation of RemoteApp from multi sources

Hello,

I deployed one RD connection broker and connected to two RD session hosts as a farm,   published the same Remote application , like MS word in both RD session hosts, the RD broker aggregates the RemoteApp from the two RD session hosts. the RD web access use the RD brokers to connect RemoteApp.   user see TWO MS wordin RD web page,   is it by design? as I thought ,the broker role should aggregate the same applications that published in different RD Session hosts as one RemoteApp,  then balance which RD session host is available and will take the connection. is that right ?  if yes, how to configure it?

btw,   all servers are based on Windows 2008 R2.

Thanks in advance!

Why aren't my "File Types" accessible to all users? TS Win2k8R2

$

I am an Admin on a Windows 2008 R2 server, with Terminal Services installed.

I want to have particular file associations created / active, so that any user who attempts to open particular files on this server users certain applications. I opened Control Panel, went to Default Programs, carefully added or made sure the file types were associated as I wished. I clicked my test files and they indeed opened as I expected.

I logged out, logged in as a test admin user (who had never logged into this server, had no user profile), expecting that the SAME test files would open as I had specified as my Admin user. This did not happen. Indeed, I was asked to associate them again (I did not do it). I went to control panel, checked default programs / file type associations ... and NONE of my carefully created file types were there.

What am I doing wrong? I need to solve this (and another user-setting issue) ASAP.

Thanks for your time.
(and yes, I did search here first, I tried things suggested, but nothing has done it ... I have _NOT_ created a GPO file type setting, indeed, I am hoping I don't have to do that, because I have like 7 file types to configure, and that's a pain, and the domain Policy could over write this server's policy at any time)

2012 Remote Desktop Services Unpublished Apps are showing

Scenario:

I fail to un-publish applications prior to uninstalling RDS, uninstalled RDS, did the reboot, re-installed RDS, rebooted.  And now All of the old apps are still showing in RDweb.  The applications are not showing as being published in Server Manager, so I'm at a loss where these are coming from.

Windows Server 2012 Proper setup for Small Home Virtualization - Hyper-V vs Remote Desktop Services

$

Hello all,

Please forgive me I am a bit new with virtualization setups on Windows as I have manly used them on Linux in the past.  I recently got a few yer old server that has Server 2012 on it and I wanted to inquire about the best setup for me.  I am looking to use it as a small virtualization host for my personal use on my home network.  I will probably only host about 4 virtual operating systems from it at a time, but I am not very familiar with the roles to setup.

I've read basic overviews of "Hyper-V" role vs the "Remote Desktop Services" role, but I am still not clear on if I should be using one or the other or both for my setup.  Like I said I wanted to have a few virtual window instances on my home network and I was hoping to be able to log into them through remote desktop on my desktop/laptop.  My home network is not on a domain encase that makes a difference.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on what roles I need for this setup and then I can research more from there?

Thanks in advance!

Remote Desktop Gateway, can't connect from RDP 8.0 (Server 2012)

I'm racking my brain, I've done this before but I'm doing this in another lab environment . Non-Domain computers (Outside) trying to RDP in via the Gateway (Domain-Internal is working).  Certs aren't an issue as they're installed, I've tried it multiple ways, but for now I'm using the self signed generated via the RD Gateway manager.  I can go to https://rdgatewayurl/rpc and authenticate and get a blank page (external and internal).

New Domain, 2k8R2 Functional Level, no real GP customization at all, except not requiring NLA and enabling RDP on the internal "servers" in a specific OU.  My Account has Admin privileges on all the servers in question.

Another stupid question: This should also work with just the RD Gateway role installed, right?  I've tried it both ways with no luck.

RD Gateway is logging Event 4625 in the Security Log.  I feel like this should be obvious but my brain is fried.

The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).

The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.

The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.

The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
	- Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.

Best method for connecting clients to vdi sessions

$

0

I have created a session-based VDI collection (full desktop) on Server 2012 R2 and I am trying to figure out the best way to connect my clients.

The clients are Dell OptiPlex 755 PC's that are currently running Windows 8.1.  There are ~40 of them and they all currently auto login using the same generic domain account.  They are only allowed to run Internet Explorer and Adobe Reader with printing.

Any thoughts on how to best automate the connections?  In theory, it would be nice if this could all be set in group policy but I am open to other suggestions.

Remote desktop services 2012 R2 remote(external) users having issues

First time poster,

here is my issue might be a long winded one as I have been working on this for over 2 weeks.

I have installed and configured RDS on a brand new install of server 2012 R2 everything on it seems to checks out. All Licences are installed and SSL is in and trusted. I have a third party cert that is install and working this checks out when I log into RDWEB remotely. I have no error messages or errors in the event viewer I can find that tell me what the issue might be. Internally everything works well and for the bulk of my users(so far all windows 7 machines) externally seems to be working. I have two users in separate locations one at a hotel and another one at home(Myself) both are only ones running windows 8.1 pro. we can log into RDWEB and get published ICONS but when we click on them it starts the RDP session and just sits there. My windows 8.1 pro works inside the network via separate VPN or at the office.

VDI Broker not balancing load over hosts

$

Hi,

I have a strange problem. Recently we added another host into our 2012 R2 VDI environment. We have approximately 50 desktops deployed over both hosts. The deployment of the collection and adding vm's works fine and I can see desktops from the collection over both. When people connect it always seems to place the users on host1, never on host2.  Host1 has approx 20 desktops running with 0 on host2 right now.

I can't see any errors in the logs, and I'm a bit mystified as to why i do not get any connections on host2? How can i try and track down what it is up to?

I think i've read before that the broker uses active machines/sessions as its basis so 15 vs 0 should definitely be enough to move new sessions to host2 i would think.

Thanks for any pointers...
