We have a Windows 2012 R2 RDS cluster with 5 RDS hosts.

How do I do the following??

1) disconnect existing logins

2) message people to please log off and log in again (XenApp has 'Send Message', what is the RDS equivalent??

3) temporarily disable all new logins to any 1 or more RDS hosts

Thank you, Tom

Security package error when remoting

A few of our users receive the following error when attempting to establish a remote desktop session.  "Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because a security package error occurred in the transport layer."  For most users, connections are not a problem.  The environment is as follows:

Remote Desktop Session Host - Windows Server 2008 R2

Remote Desktop Gateway - Windows Server 2012 R2 (SSL certificate has been installed and chain verified)

Client computer that cannot connect - supports RDP 8.1.

The users that cannot connect are behind a firewall at a customer facility.  The do not have trouble connecting to normal secured web sites through port 443.  I'm having trouble trying to determine if I have not configured something correctly on the gateway or if the customer has blocked traffic in some way that does not allow RDP.  Since the transport should be HTTP (instead of RPC over HTTP), I don't think this should be a problem.

Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Redirected Printer Settings Greyed out and Missing Finisher & Trays

Hi,

I have added a new local printer . The printer has 2 additional trays and a finisher added.

When I log onto the terminal server (server 2008 R2), the printer is redirected, but without the extra 2 trays and finisher. Most options are greyed out within the properties of the printer driver.

Same as this issue here:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/2eeeb270-9cbb-4628-ad22-0ef3df6549d6/printers-not-redirecting-properties-and-preferences

The driver is installed on the server and I have tried disabling the 2 GPO settings 'Use Terminal Services Easy Print printer driver first' and 'Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first'.

Does anyone know a solution to this??

Client Side Rendering Yes or No

Good Day,

We have a RDS2012 R2 environment. We were not able to use the Easy Print Driver due to speed and now our printing environment is:

1. All printers installed and shared off a W2k12 R2 File and Print server

2. Appropriate printers are mapped via Group Policy upon a user starting an RDS session.

This is working much faster than we were using the Easy Printer Driver, but I am wondering if it could be faster yet if we turn off Client Side Rendering which is on the Sharing Tab (Printer Properties) of the shared printer?

Access windows server 2003 from a local user machine (windows 7 pro)?

Is there a way to look up user accounts from a local machine running windows 7 pro without having to always go to the physical server itself?

The reason is the location of the server, a bit of an inconvenience.

It's a windows server 2003 btw.

Thank you,

"Remote Resources" doesnt load - OSX RDP App v 8.0.9

Hey All,

Running into a curious issue that I've been trying to fix on and off, related specifically to using "Remote Resources" from the RDP App version 8.0.9 on OSX only.

When I type in the (proper) URL for my RDWeb Server, it hangs and never displays any remote resources. What is more alarming however, is the IIS traffic server side shows it continually retrying and failing without ever stopping. The only way to get it to"stop" is to go back in and blank out the Remote Resources fields, and press refresh. I've been able to eat up a significant amount of CPU on my RDWeb servers by just getting 5-10 Mac's trying to connect at the same time, and let it run for 5-10 minutes, it just never stops retrying.

The server side logs look like this:

...and on and on, repeating in an endless loop until I manually blank the details within "Remote Resources" on the Mac.

My first thought was to chase down the 401.2 error, which leads me to believe the Client and Server did not support a common authentication scheme? We do currenlty do some basic server hardening via GPO - disabling RC4 and SSLv2, as this server is intended to be publically available when we go live. However, reverting this stuff back to "stock", and rebooting, has not alleviated the issue, or change the IIS log output. My research on the various 401.1 errors hasn't gotten me anywhere either, unfortunately.

The interesting thing is, using Windows 7, 8, 8.1 is fine. Using Android's RDP app, as well as IOS RDP App, I can use the "Remote Resources" function just fine. We are using 100% Public trusted CA certs, and everything "else" seems to work with the exception of "Remote Resources" on OSX specifically.

On OSX, I can also use Safari, or Firefox and load the Remote Desktop Web Access page, and launch an app successfully (Minus the still existing RD Gateway issue, which requires the .RDP file be manually edited first to work through an RD Gateway on OSX, it still ignores these settings as of 8.0.9). Additionally, within Safari or Firefox, I can visit the "/feed/webfeed.aspx" url and login, to where it will download the RSS feed as a file, so it appears to "function" at least through the browser to some extent. (it is my understanding that all the Remote Resources portion should be doing is downloading the RSS feed and populating it within the RDS app for convenience?)

Has anyone seen this before? Surely I can't be the only one....? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions, I can provide additional details or clarification if needed.

The grace period for the Remote Desktop Session Host server has expired

$

<p>I'm running Windows Server 2012, we only have 1 server and it's a DC.  I'm trying to RD to the server from my Windows 7 laptop. It was working fine on Friday but when I came in on Monday I got message saying that 'The remote session was disconnnected because there are no Remote Desktop License Servers available to provide a license'

So after a bit of digging I found out my 'grace period' had expired, so ordered a new license which I got today, installed this all ok but still i cannot connect via RD I get the same message....went into the RD License Diagnoser and it said the problem was as follows

'The grace period for the Remote Desktop Session Host server has expired, but the RD Session Host server has not been configured with any license servers. Connections to the RD Session Host server will be denied unless a license server is configured for the RD Session Host server.'

Suggested Resolution as follows

Configure a license server for the Remote Desktop Session Host server. If you have an existing license server, specify that license server for the RD Session Host Server. Otherwise, install RD Licensing on a computer on your network and Configure RD Session Host Server to use it.'

I cannot figure out how to do this as I cannot find the RD Session Host Server tool.

Can any of you lovely people help me please

Language Bar appears when launching apps on RD Client on iOS devices

$

When using the RD Client app on iOS devices to launch programs from a Remote Resource Feed we always get a language bar appearing on the screen. The language bar doesn't appear when using RemoteApp from a PC or if I login into the server directly, only when using the iOS app.

The language bar also shows the default language as English US which is not the default. In Language screen in Control Panel we only have English UK listed. The Welcome screen and New user setting is also all set to English UK, the only place I can see English US is in the Override Windows display language drop down menu in the Advanced Settings.

I am assuming the language bar is showing because it some how thinks English US is the default but not sure how to remove this. The language on the iOS devices are also English UK.

I have tried re-creating profiles and also actually adding the English US keyboard then removing it but neither worked.

The RemoteApp server is Windows 2012 R2.

Any help/ideas appreciated, thanks.

RDS 2012 Deplyment RDG crashing

Hi All,

I hope someone out there can help us. We have a RDS 2012 deployment with the following configuration (.N.B. all servers are VMs on vSphere 5.5 Enterprise and brand new Dell servers and we have zero network issues as these have been fully checked several times)

2 x RD Connection Brokers (2012 R2)

2 RD Licence Servers (2012 R2)

1 x RD Web Access (2012 R2)

1 x RD Gateway server (2012 R2)

2 x Session collections, one with 10 Session Hosts and one with 4 session hosts (all session hosts are 2012, not R2)

We are experiencing a very very strange situation where the RDG simply stops procession connections randomly. there are absolutely no errors, warnings or critical events logged in ANY of the event logs (and we have trawled through every single one of them!(and the service does not stop or crash in the traditional sense. we also cannot launch the gateway manager console when this happens. if we restart the service then all is fine and users can reconnect. we have even replaced the gateway with a brand new box and the issue still prevails. All clients that connect through the RDG are a minimum on Windows 7 and have at least RDP 8.0 installed

Has anyone else seen this? it is becoming a real issue for us and people are losing faith, as they do

RD Licensing Manager on Dreamspark license?

$

Hello
I have just received my Dreamspark Premium account. I am a bit concerned on what I can do with it, and what I can't (due to licensing). I have set up Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter and install remote desktop services - however, RD Licensing manager claims that I don't have active license and it will terminate to operate in 120 days. Quick question then: am I, as Dreamspark user, qualified to receive free-of charge 1 user license for RD? I intend to create my own environment in "industry standard" domain, and I just have doubts if I can legally (and most importantly: free of charge) do so. Thanks in advance :)

Hi Everyone,

I have a company with 7 employees and I run a small operation. Basically only need to access internet and use microsoft office package and MYOB.

I just deployed a server Windows 2012 essentials R2. Roles in the server are following:

AD, IIS, Print services, Remote Access, Remote Desktop Services.

single server scenario.

The issue is to run MYOB Accountrigths v.19 the user in the AD require admin rights. MYOB support can't help me with anything in the microsoft windows 2012 server.

My question is possible to grant admin rights to any user to execute and run MYOB without promote or join to a administrator group ?

Im trying to find a away around to not give full admin rights to any user.

thanks

Question about RDS Licensing 2008 R2/2012

Hi All,

I'm looking for some assistance with RDS licensing in Citrix environment.

What would be the best way to configure RDS licensing in multiple untrusted domains and multiple RDS farms (we have one farm per domain and there are no trusts between them)? Most users have accounts in each of those farms.
Is it necessary to buy licenses for each RDS farm/domain since a single licensing server can't be used without a 2-way trust in place?
Can a single user license be used in multiple RDS farms within the same company?

Thanks

2008R2 cluster - Outlook 2010 - RemoteApps - No sound

Currently running a 2008 R2 cluster, and users are complaining about no sound via Outlook 2010 when using remoteapps.

Sure enough if you use the full remote desktop client, sound is not an issue.

IE, and other apps have no issues with sound via the remote apps option.

Outlook 2010 does not have the new message pop ups or calendar reminder sounds when used in a remote app.

Any ideas?

RDS 2012 R2 Connection broker in HA mode SQL mirroring issue

$

Hi,

I have an issue where our two brokers will not connect to the failover database when the database fails over.

Our setup:

Database - 2 x SQL 2012 Standard with the RDCB database mirrored in high safety with automatic failover mode.

Brokers/Web gateways - 2 x server duel role servers in different subnets. They're configured in HA mode

I won't include the session hosts as it's out of scope for this issue.

So the RD database connection string has been set to:

DatabaseConnectionString : DRIVER=SQL Server Native Client 11.0;SERVER=server2\instance2,5555;Failover_Partner=server1\instance1,5555;Trusted_Connection=Yes;APP=Remote Desktop Services Connection Broker;Database=RDCB

So when this was first set, the DB was failed over and it worked. It was then failed back to the correct principal but now when failed over to the Failover_Partner it will not connect.

I've confirmed the SQL permissions and custom port aren't an issue.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

RDWeb setup for our office

$

Hi All,

We have the following hardware for our RD Web solution:

1 Server – RD Gateway, RD Licensing, RD Web Access, RD Connection Broker

1 Server – RD Session Host 1

1 Server – RD Session Host 2

Our environment consists of the following:

1 Windows Server 2012 R2 domain controller at the main office, 4 additional 2003 R2 servers scattered throughout our 4 remote offices. Domain functional level of 2003.

Although I have found some really good walkthroughs on the internet that have helped me for the most part in setting up an RD farm,  I can’t seem to find definitive answers to my questions. My questions are mainly with the connection broker, load balancing and high availability.

I am hoping that someone could help me find the holy grail of RD web! Please avoid responding with links to technet articles as I have read several of them already. What I am instead looking for is personal knowledge and experience, thank you!

  • Will high availability work with just one connection broker or do we need to purchase an additional server to use as a connection broker?
  • Will my ONE connection broker automatically roll a client’s connection over to RD session host 2 in the event that RD session host 1 gets powered off?
  • What exactly does high availability do? My interpretation of it from a user’s perspective is, they log on from the comfort of their living room, check their email then open and edit their word document. They decide to go jump in the shower so they close everything out without logging off. High availability now kicks in and keeps track of what the user was doing with their session when they closed and powered off their computer. User returns to their computer, powers it on and logs back intohttps://remote.company.com/rdweb to find that their email and word document that they were editing is still open and running just like they left it. This all makes if the users are using VDIs. However, we are only using remote apps at the moment. Assuming that my interpretation of HA is correct, how does it benefit users who are using remote apps?
  • Can I deliver both VDI and remote apps to my users with my existing hardware?
  • Does load balancing work right "out the box" or is there some configuration required?
  • When configuring high availability mode, I am prompted for the DB connection string, database store, and DNS round robin name. This of course is asking for all of the SQL input information necessary to enable HA. I have installed and configured SQL Express 2012 SP1 with the native client beautifully onto the broker server. The broker server’s computer account is part of a security group that has dbcreator rights to SQL. Port 1433 is open on the local firewall and it has been configured in SQL configuration manager IP settings. But for some oddball reason, I get “could not create the database” (Event ID: 32776) when attempting to proceed with the HA configuration. Could this be because:
  1.      The SQL instance is on the connection broker itself?
  2.      My farm needs to have more than one broker server?

Any personal experience and words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time!

Windows 2012 R2 environment with 2 RD Virtualization Hosts and 1 Connection Broker.    Both hosts were functioning correctly however I am seeing this error in the event log of one of my hosts now and I cannot deploy VDI collections to this host (the other one is fine):

I have tried removing this RD Virtualization Host from the RDS Deployment and adding it back but that did not work.
