Window Search issues - Windows 2012 R2 RDS session host

Hi

I have a problem with a Windows 2012 R2 U1 RDS host session server.
Server is updated with latest updates.
Office 2013 32bit is installed per best practice.
Several other softwares are installed as well.
Installations was made using "change user /install"
Several GPOs are in place to restrict user from doing things like se drives start, Not run any exe files that are not allowed etc.
It is only one server and all userprofiles are local.
Outlook is used with cached exchange mode.

To the actual problem. Intermittently and with no pattern something happens that are related to "Windows Search" service.
The symptoms are one, or more, of the following.
1. Some or all icons on desktop become white.
2. Open My Computer freezes for about a minute up to a couple of minutes showing nothing.
3. Search doesn't work.
4. Tiles on the start screen becomes unresponsive and I cannot search here either. I have to logon into another session and either kill explorer.exe
for the frozen user or restart Windows Search service.

When this happens it is like this for everyone and restarting Windows Search service clears it every time.
I also get Event ID 10023 and 10024 with Source Search.
I have tried to rebuild the index to no avail.
I get the notion that it has something to do with .OST files but I'm not sure of this.
The only thing that can be confirmed is that the error happens a lot more when there are more users logged on.

There are no other addins in Outlook other than standard.

Anyone have any ideas how I can continue troubleshooting this?

How to set-up Remote Desktop so my users can work from home?

Hey,

On my school they have made a possibility for me to work from home using Remote Desktop. Every student can just start the Remote Desktop app on their Computer, Tablet, Phone, whatever... and just connect, This gives us the ability to work from home and make some homework.

Now what i was wondering... How the hell did they made this possible? i cannot find this anywhere. I want this at my company and the only thing i could find was 'Remote Desktop Services' and this is all about web resources etcetera... which i don't need.

I am familiar with RDP and it's already working at our company... problem is that they have to leave their computer's on every day and night because if they turn their computers off they cannot connect. I just set a different rdp port for every pc, all of this is exactly what i don't want.

RDP allows just one session per computer and i don't think that my school leaves a computer on for every student at night am i right? Some told me i needed to have a terminal server or something? how to do this... please help me

Terminal Services Alternative LEGAL ???

As you maybe know if you need a desktop virtualization the remote desktop/Citrix is one of the solution, however the licensing is a real cost problem.
CAL on server side and VDA on users side, it seems Microsoft don't want we use the terminal server.
Since 10 years we can see many alternate solutions, they are also using Terminal server technology.
Most of them can be used on 2003/2008 server and also in XP/Vista/W7 (desktop OS)

My question (please I need a clear answer) why Microsoft don’t' do any think to stop this business?
Is it legal?

Double login to two 2008r2 RDS farms

We have two small RDS farms that use the same RD connection broker.  The environment is session based RDP only with Thin client HP terminals.  No RDweb access is configured or needed.  When logging in with thin clients there is a double domain login occurring, shouldn't the RDCB be invisible and not prompt for a  login?

publishing apps in HA RDSH farm

I am planning to enable HA and LB with adding second RDSH.

How apps are published in case of 2,3 ... 5 hosts.

Is there a way for automatic publishing of the same app in HA and LB environment?

Or the app should be published on each host manually?

Thx.

Suddenly, when enter webfeed link in RADC the error appears:

There is a problem with this connection's security certificate.

Error code: 0x80072F8F, 0x18

Event ID 1012

The only thing that changed in new images is upgrade of IE to IE10.

I have one machine deployed yesterday with the new image and it works fine. So should not be IE10.

What to check?

Difference between RDWA and RDG servers

I am trying to figure out what the difference is between RDWA and RDG.  I've read all the technet articles I can find, and I'm still a little confused between the two servers, and what their roles are.  I'm looking at the architecture map found here (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/video/remote-desktop-services-rds-explained.aspx) and I don't really see a difference.  They both seem to allow access over port 443, and they both serve up either RDSH/RDVH resources.  The only difference I can see is that the RDG seems to do the authentication, while the RDWA seems to pass on authentication to the RDCB.

What am I missing here?

RDS Virtual Host - Cannot See Any VMs

I deployed a full blown RDS config on my network and everything seems to have went off without a hitch however, I am using both a session host and a virtual host. The virtual host is shared it doesn't just serve VDI systems and it's on a separate VLAN / IP which I setup access rules to via the firewall.

When I attempt to configure a Virtual Desktop Collection it doesn't see anything... I even setup a VM Template to the letter based on a MSDN article.

I see nothing in the event viewer or anything else to help me figure out why I can't see any VMs...

Also is it true that only the Connection Broker will need access to the Visualization Host or does the gateway etc also need access?

Any help would be very much appreciated, I am VERY behind on this project.

Thank You!

Used the wizard and setup made a RDS deployment.  2 session hosts 1 server for Connction broker and License  and one server for Gateway and web access.

Regular remote desktop works fine.  Even through the web interface.

I just published Calc.  When I try to access it and show the details, it logs on the then freezes at "Preparing Windows".  Then the window will time out and close.

I am unable to find anything in the event viewer regarding this.

Anybody have some suggestions?

Hello Everyone !

We have installed RDS server on Windows Server 2008 R2 Sp1. Every user connect to the RDS Server and works fine. As you know have one big problem with users folder which this folders filling up whole HDD of RDS Server. We decided to redirect all users session folders to the file server with GPO. Everything works fine. All user data redirects to the new location but "AppData" folder grows up day by day. All users AppData  folder is also redirecting.

How can I reduce size of my RDS system drive ?

Thank you for HELP!

Problem with TrustedCert Thumprints

Since renewing the SSL certificate for our RDS servers, all users are getting the "a website is trying to start a remote connection" warning message. Previously this was not a problem as we got the Cert Thumbprint and pushed it out via Group Policy using the "Specify SHA1 thumbprints of certificates representing trusted .rdp publishers" setting.

However, even after updating with the new thumbprint, the warning still pops up.

The servers are all Windows 2012 & clients are using Windows 7/8/8.1.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can try to resolve the issue?

Thanks
Mark

RDS role configuration

$

Hello,

I have a single server that is going to be used to download large video files by end users and then transferred over to their desktops. The department accessing the server will be logging in using a single account so they all have access to each others downloads, etc..

I've installed Server 2012 R2 and want to add the RDS role to the server so that multiple users (more than 2) can RDP into it at one time. I can add the role easily enough and figure that session based deployment is what I should go for but there's licensing and so much more to it that ends up really complicating it. I'm a little confused as to how to configure the RDS role to do what I need. By the way, I work in a company that is a MS partner and has multiple CAL licenses to use. What do I need to configure after adding the role to make sure that several people can log into the machine? Thanks in advance for any assistance you give.

Full screen with different resolution from local screen

Hi,

Sitting here with a new laptop with a screen resolution by 3200x1800 running windows 8.1 pro.

Locally icons and text looks normal but connecting to a 2008 or 2012 RDS server with full screen, all icons and text get so small, it is not usable. Setting rdp screen resolution lower does not help as the window just gets smaller and unreadable.

Any way to run rdp in full screen mode with a lower resolution than the local resolution?

Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server Event ID 20499

I keep getting Event ID 20499 "Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server \\SERVERNAME for user USERNAME" in our event logs for multiple servers that are running 2012 R2

I noticed that when this happens the user often is missing items that get applied via group policies such as desktop wallpapers and mapped drives.

I am also using the Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac that was release yesterday on another Mac computer and for certain users it won't launch the redirected folder that I specified when I get this Event ID 20499

SSL Certificates for RDS

Hi there!

I'm new at this topic ..i need your help guys..guidance is appreciated.

I just deployed a RDS environment for my external users using self-signed certificate..

My network is using Dynamic IP internet so, we're using DYNDNS service for the external access..(ie mydomain.dyndns.org)

I have 1 RD Gateway and 2 RDSH servers..all of them working ok Round robin TS as well..implemented HA too

My questions are:

1.- Is the self-signed certificate appropriate to work in a business environment? (About 40 remote users) I 've been reading some articles about it and many mentions the need to have a CA certifiacte..For my scenario ..What is the difference? Do CA certificates will work the same as self-signed?

2.- The period last for a year..what will happen with this certificated due??..Will i have to replace the cert and redistribute it again all over the 40 users? Wihat about the CA? is the same?

3.- How secure is the connection between my users and my network? am i in risk to be attacked by a hacker using the self-signed???

Thanks in advanced

FG

Focus Problems on RemoteApp 2012r2

Hi

We have the following Problem:

In our Remote Desktop Services 2012 R2 Deployment we have an application that generates a bunch of word documents. in this process all these (12-15) documents are opened for future use (the user can printing then these docouments for example). During the process of generating the focus is jumping to the every new generated Word doc. So the user cannot do something other in this time and have to wait until all the documents are finished generating. 2 weeks ago, everything was fine and the docs was generated in the background and not flipped allways to the foreground. I have no idea what has changed the last two weeks...

Our Clients have RDC 8.1 and RDC 7.1, both have now the same problems.

Has someone the same problem and perhaps an idea for a solution?

Regards

Dominic
