Adobe Acrobat activation on Remote Desktop Session Collection

For applications like Adobe Acrobat or non Microsoft applications is there any additional steps to activate an application for all users?

For example I installed Adobe Acrobat through the remote desktop installation process. But after activating the application, 30 days later users are being prompted to activate again. I used the same process for Installing/activating Office and Project. Both worked perfectly.

Am I missing something?

AD required to manage RDS?

I have a need for a small server that can run RDS for a medical office with 4 client computers.  Can a single Win2012r2 server with RDS run in this environment without having to also add a Domain Controller?  For so few resources to manage I was hoping to be able to just install a simple Windows server with RDS and the application and a printer and not need to virtualize or deal with a domain controller at all.  But I cannot find info on whether this is even possible.  Thanks

Certificate error when connecting to RemoteApp outside of private network

I have a server running Windows Server 2012 R2. It is configured as an all-in-one RDS server - all roles are installed on it. We've configured it primarily to use an application as a RemoteApp - the application is hosted at a different site, and this RDS server is at that site. We have a site to site VPN set up, so that it is all a part of our domain. The issue I'm having seems related to the fact that our internal network is .local, but the certificate only has a single .com name, so that we can access it from the Internet.

Everything works, though what I'm trying to clear up is a certificate error. When connecting to the RemoteApp from outside of our private network, we get the error "The server name on the certificate is incorrect." This occurs after entering credentials.  The public name of the server (rds.contoso.com) is different from the private name (server.contoso.local).  We can proceed through the error and connect (though we'd like to fix it).

I implemented a fix that I found elsewhere to try to fix this.  This was to add a custom RDP setting like so:

Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration –CollectionName QuickSessionCollection -CustomRdpProperty "use redirection server name:i:1`nalternate full address:s:rds.contoso.com"

That seemed to make some progress, then we got another error.  I made a change to the RD RAP in RD Gateway Manager - by default, it allowed access to Domain Computers (which rds.contoso.com did not exist as a domain computer). I modified it to allow access to the rds.contoso.com name.

I now receive a different error message and that's where I'm stuck.  The heading on the message is RemoteApp Disconnected.  The text of the error is 'Remote Desktop can't find the computer "rds.contoso.com".  This might mean that"rds.contoso.com" does not belong to the specified network.  Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to.'

Any thoughts on what I can do next?  When I roll back the changes I've made, I'm again able to connect fine, I just have the certificate error again.

Remote Desktop Licensing Mode is Not Configured

I recently had to wipe the hard drive of a server running Server 2008 R2 that had 10 RDS CALS.  During the rebuild, I thought I had reinstalled the CALS, but I keep getting the above pop-up saying that we are still on the 90-day grace period.  I believe we had RDS configured in a 'per user' basis.  We have 45 remote users, however we never have more than 10 active at any time.

I have the Microsoft Open License Order Confirmation with the Authorization Number, License Agreement Number and an RD Product ID # and License Server #, but copied from the old installation.

My question is, what do I do now?

Thanks

RD session host does not display the same collections as on the broker

Hi all,

I have a very Basic Setup for my VDI, using a Connection Broker on one host and several collections of RD Session Hosts.

Now I added the RD Session Hosts to some of my RD session hosts, initially it worked well so I can see/manage the RD sessions/collections on my RD session host also.

After a while some of the collections / session hosts are starting to get removed from the RD session hosts Display, while I can still find the appropriate collections / session hosts on my Connection Broker.

Example:

Collection_1 has sessionhost1, sessionhost2, sessionhost3, sessionhost4

After some  time, 2 hours, Collection_1 on the Connection Broker still showed sessionhost1, sessionhost2, sessionhost3, while  sessionhost4 is missing on sessionhost1, and some time later also on sessionhost2. After a while sessionhost4 is missing on all session hosts, and on sessionhost4 also the collection is not shown anymore.

After some  additional time the next session host is removed from the next session host. On the Connection Broker there is still a proper configuration shown.

As I understood the information shown in the Server Manager is received from the Connection Broker I assumed there can be no difference in my Server Manager Display for different hosts.

Can you please give me a hint how to troubleshoot that? Where to start?

Regards,

Martin

Remote App hosted on 2008R2 RDSH and distributed to 2012R2 RDSH not working as desired

Hello Community!

Hopefully I'm right in here with my problem.

----

Affected systems:
1 RDSH 2008R2 out of the box (unpatched), domain joined, host for a business software as remote app, VMware Guest
1 RDSH 2012R2 full patched, domain joined, used as terminalserver with about 100 connected users, VMware Guest

Limitations:
The business app can't be hosted on a 2012R2 RDSH, because it is not supported by the business app developer company. Nevertheless we tried this but it ends up with inacceptable usage of the CPU ressources arround 95%.

Next step was a fully patched 2008R2 RDSH as business app host. That worked a while but out of nowhere the business app got a problem with a calling IE11 procedure. We figured out that the business app developer company only supports IE8 ...

Current situation:
As with the systems mentioned above we tried to distribute the remote app as seamless RDP file and as web feed configured on the 2012R2 via control panel. Both ends up in a black box that got the dimensions of the expected window.

What I want to get:
An environment supported by the business app developer company (2008R2 with IE8) where remote app from the business app RDSH will work smooth and reliable on the 2012R2 RDSH.

Can you help me out with this tricky issue?

Thanks in advance and
best regards

Manuel

Use devices with serial connection in RDS session...either through virtual desktop or remote apps

Hello All,

I have a new issue that has come up for one of our clients, and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on how to get this configuration correct.

Our setup, Windows Server 2008 R2 standard is the RDS server.  HP thin clients with Windows XP are the clients.  We are using a medical app through Remote Apps.  In the medical application, there is a place that needs a signature.  We have a signature pad attached to the computer through a serial connection.  When looking at device manager, it is connected to a COM port, not totally sure what number.

Through a citrix session, the serial device works into the remote app.  When we do the same thing through RDS remote apps, the serial device does not work, namely the signature pad does not take down a signature.

Things we have tried. We (another tech at my company and I) have logged into the RDS server through RDP.  On the options, under local resources, we have checked pass serial connection and usb devices.  We have looked for a driver for the unit, and cannot find one to install on the server.

RemoteFX does not look like a valid way of setting this up, as these are XP computers and only have RDP version 6 installed, and cannot upgrade to 7.

We are very much at a loss on how to set this up, and at this point it is holding up a project to get rid of Citrix and go to remote Apps through MS.  Any suggestions are helpful.  As this is a client site,  we cannot always quickly try the suggestions, but will always update this thread when we do.  Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I am not sure which part of the forum to post this.

I am having a problem with remote web gateway on server 2012 R2

It works correctly internally

I can login externally and the login page displays the correct certificate.

When I try to connect to a computer externally it displays the certificate for our Exchange 2013 server complains about the mismatch and doesnt allow me to continue.

Any idea on how I can solve this issue?

Kind regards

Server Authentication Certificate Template GP setting not updating registry

Hi,

I'm working on a windows 2012 domain, and I've applied the Server Authentication Certificate Template group policy to a 2012 server I'm working on (I applied the relevant GPO to the OU that the server is in). I set it (by oid) to use a certificate template that is configured on the CA. The template has Server and Client Auth in the Application Policy extension.

An RSOP on the target server reports that the GP setting has been applied.

The registry setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\TemplateCertificate hasn't appeared on that server though. The certificate isn't being enrolled (it doesn't appear in certlm.msc) and the self-signed certificate is still being presented when RDPing to the server.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

RDS on Win2012r2 without Active Directory

I setup a Win2012r2 server as a standalone (not part of a domain) and installed RDS

I have assigned RDS CALs now and am still getting the message that I have 75 days until RDS stops working - "Remote Desktop Licensing mode is not configured. Remote Desktop Services will stop working in 75 days.  On the RD Connection Broker server, use Server Manager to specify the Remote Desktop licensing mode and the licensing server."

I do not think that there is much that I can configure from within Server Manager with my server because it does not belong to a domain tho.  Any idea where to look for this licensing problem?

thanks

Time outs when redirected from RDS CB to RDSH

$

Hi,

I'm troubleshooting connectivity for the following setup:

1x RD Gateway server

1x RD Connection Broker Server also License server

1x RD Web server

1x RDSH server with multiple RemoteApps

Gateway is configured to allow bypass for local connections.  Certificate has the correct name and is successfully installed. Certificate is from an internet CA.

When users come in over the internet RemoteApps launch pretty quickly every time.  When users connect over the LAN RemoteApps launch successfully but much slower.  When users connect over some VPN connections the connection times out when launching a RemoteApp.

Over VPN I can see a successfull CAP and RAP in the Gateway Event log.  I can also see a successful connection and successful redirection from the gateway to the connection broker over HTTP.  In the SessionBroker log I can see a successful connection, but then when the redirect to RDSH is attempted event 819 occurs "This connection request has timed out. User could not log on to the end point within the alloted time. Remote Desktop Connection Broker will stop monitoring this connection request."

When you connect over the LAN it takes longer but successfully redirects, and when connecting over the internet (non VPN) it connects quickly and successfully.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Tim

Printer redirection

I have a strange situation that started yesterday. My users have a local label printer attached to the pc they are using, this gets redirected to their terminal service session. The problem I am having is, as of yesterday it doesn't show up under devices and printers. It is still being redirected and is set as the default, so they can print to it. However some of them have to print to another printer that is a shared network printer and once they change that to their default printer, they are unable to change back to the locally attached printer that is redirected because it doesn't show up. The only way for them to get back to that printer is to log out of the terminal service session and then log back in so it redirects the local printer and sets it back to the default. Has anyone ever ran into this before? I restarted my terminal servers last night to make sure it wasn't just a glitch.

How best to improve graphics performance on RDS host servers??

$

We have a small RDS farm running on Windows Server 2012 R2.

All the RDS hosts and related servers are virtual servers running on vSphere 5.5 (hardware version 8 if that makes any difference).

I've seen various articles about configuring RemoteFX in Group Policy, but they are confusing.

I'm not asking about improving things like watching YouTube videos etc., I'm asking about improving graphics in general, like screen redraws and displaying mouse movements, keystrokes, etc.

What are the best things to do to improve these things within an RDS farm??

I will try increasing the video RAM within the host servers' VM settings but this is a guess, and these hosts are logged into by multiple users over VPN connections...

Thank you, Tom

I have a server 2008 r2 with the rds session host role installed. This server is running as a vm under hyper-v 2012. The server is running a business app. I have 9 users whom connect to RDS server and each client has a scale attached. How can I get the scale to show up on the rds session? Currently I have the same setup with server 2003 terminal server and using thinprint. Would I need similar setup for 2008?

Thank you.

Cannot find working certificate in Trusted Root Certification Authorities

when in RDS Manager\Edit Deployments Properties\Certificates I click View Details for one of installed Trusted Certificates.

When in Trusted Root Certification\Certificates MMC I don't see my certificate (not in Issued to or Issued by column)

I guess it should be there? What is the explanation that it is missing?

Windows 8.1 Remote Desktop App - Bar appears and you disconnect

My internet searching skills must be disappearing with age.

Windows 8.1 tablets using remote desktop (new version)

When using this app with remote desktop services all works well but if you place the mouse right up the top, the remote desktop bar appears. So if you have word open (remote desktop sessions, not remote apps or virtual sessions) and then you decide to close word via the top right hand side cross, sometimes your mouse goes too high and the remote desktop bar appears and you click this 'cross' instead of the word cross, in turn it disconnects your session and you need to reconnect.

I have some tablets doing this and others don't but I cannot find the setting to stop the bar appearing.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Please note we are not using remote desktop connection app (blue icon) but remote desktop (orange icon).

Force local client IE use instead of on RDS host

Is there a way via 2012 RDS to force local IE use for internet request from a published application?  I have an application that's published via RDS but the help files link to video content that's accessed via IE.  Is there a way to redirect that request to the local client's IE rather than through the RDS Host server?
