Terminal Services - your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the remote desktop gateway server address is unreachable or incorrect. type a valid remote desktop gateway server address

I've been searching for answer to my issue and most of the threads seem to point to it being a certificate issue.  I wanted to explain our environment in a little more detail though as I think it may be something else causing this.

Terminal Services Gateway UNC - rdsserver01.domain.local
External Address to Access - http://rdsserver01.domainusa.org/rdweb
Added DefaultTSGateway in IIS as rdsserver1.geneva.local

If I access the server internally (by IP or UNC  or external address) I can access remote desktops just fine.

If I go off network, I can access the sign-in page and actually sign in.  I created a Self-Signed Cert using rdsserver01.domainusa.org.  I can get past the certificate errors.  When I attempt to connect using Remote Desktop I get the following message:

your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the remote desktop gateway server address is unreachable or incorrect. type a valid remote desktop gateway server address.

Again, from the threads I've read, they are saying it's a certificate issue.  Or is it some thing simpler like some missed setting?  If any additional information is needed, please let me know and I will try my best to provide it.

We are using RDS printing, i.e. user prints on his local printer connected to his desktop or Laptop at remote locations.

After installing it works, but after user logs off , TS port becomes inactive. we have to re-install the printer again to make it active each time.

Pls. help.

Server 2012 RemoteApps: Concurrent sessions for a single user?

$

Hi All,

Having an issue on a Server 2012 RemoteApp setup.  We have a company where they have 10 different desktops, and a Server 2012 server set up to host their database application through RemoteApps.  Everything appears to work fine, until a second user connects.  All users in the company use the same user account (it's just data entry, the database has its own internal user list and there is no need to have separate domain users accounts).  When "User" launches the RemoteApp database, it immediately assumes the prior user's session, disconnecting the prior user (who's logged in with the same User ID).  While multiple concurrent users (with different user ID's) can log in at the same time, what we really need is ONE user account logging in to 10 systems, 10 separate sessions, at the same time.  This was easy with Server 2008R2, but I'm not finding how this is accomplished in the "new and improved" Server 2012.

This also occurs when an already-connected user launches a second RemoteApp (i.e. While the database is open, they launch anything else, like "Calc" test app--it disconnects the prior Database app and assumes that session and doesn't run "Calc").

So where's the little "let the same user log in multiple times" checkbox moved to?

Thanks,

-Dan

Can multiple domains use a single RDP License Server?

$

Hello,

I have an odd situation.  We have our primary domain that has 25 RDP licenses and only 12 users.  We have another group joining us that I want to put on a separate domain.  They will have a single server that will primarily be used as an RDP server.  Can I use the other domain's RDP Licenses, or would the new server have to exist in our domain?

Thanks,

Jeffery Smith

Hi everyone!

We have Terminal Server on Win 2008 R2 with Remote App and WebACcess roles.

Does anyone know why user locally has one type of printer properties, when he connects via rdp to RDS he has second printer properties and when he launches any apllication via RemoteApp he has third printer properties?

Is there any way to make them similar?

Remove users Create folders / append data permissions on C:\

$

HI,

we run several 2008R2 SP1 Remote Desktop servers. All of them, installed from the official media (so no sysprep images). Out of the box on all our 2008R2 servers, RDS or not, Users have 'Create folders / append data' special permissions on %SYSTEMDRIVE%, so root of C:. I believe they are there for compatiblity reasons but our users found out other uses for these permissions. I want to get rid of them but I can't:

- Settings permissions using normal explorer GUI gives access denied

- icacls c:\ /remove "users" from elevated prompt (although UAC is disabled) gives access denied

- psexec -s icacls c:\ /remove "users" gives access denied (so running as SYSTEM)

- Modifying permissions through GPO, either local or through domain doesn't work, permissions aren't applied (probably also access denied)

- UAC is disabled

I've searched both technet and google and found some of the above solutions but none seem to work for me. So how to prevent users to dump their stuff at C:\?

"The remote session was disconnected because there were network problems during the licensing protocol" after enabling RemoteFX Windows 8 VM

I receive the error anytime I try to connect (from Windows 7 physical client machines running the recent RDP 8 "update") to the Windows 8 VM (w/RemoteFx enabled) running on Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V Server. The GPU on the server is DirectX 11 capable. At one point this was working, however, just recently this stopped working (not sure if any Windows Server 2012 updates did this or the RDP 8 "update" for Windows 7/2008 R2).

If I connect to the Windows 8 VM (with RemoteFx enabled) from the Hyper-V manager, the connection works (no licensing protocol errors)

However, if I remove the RemoteFx from the Windows 8 VM, all RDP 8 clients connect fine.

I've checked all the event logs (noticed no errors) and the Remote Desktop Virtualization Host Agent is running. I've checked the RD Licensing Diagnoser and no errors reported.

Hi All

Over the past week or so (after a set of Windows updates and restart) svchost.exe has increasingly used more and more memory. It probably gobbles up an extra 1GB per day and doesn't relent.

After running various diagnostics, the debug diagnostic tool finally provided me this information after a memory leak test:

rpcrt4.dll is responsible for 1.76 GBytes worth of outstanding allocations. The following are the top 2 memory consuming functions:
rpcrt4!AllocWrapper+2b: 1.76 GBytes worth of outstanding allocations.
rpcrt4!Ndr64ClientInitialize+964: 1.36 MBytes worth of outstanding allocations.

Terminal Server 2008R2: Blackscreen conencting with Multiple Monitors (Urgent !)

Hello,

we have a TerminalServer Farm of five Servers.

Connecting to the Servers with only one Monitor works fine. Connecting to the Servers with multimonitor support (2 Monitors or three Monitors) shows only a black screen on all monitor with the taskbar.

But its curios, I have this problem only on 2 of the 5 servers. All 5 Servers are absolutely identically (fresh) installed with a software dist. Really NO differences.

We've tried this with different clients. Win7, WinXP, Win7 Embedded (HP Thin Client T510), WinXP Embedded (HP TC 510). Same problem on all clients.

Any Ideas ?

Thanks a lot.

Best way to deliver RDS or a seamless experience

$

Hello all,

I'm new to RDS on Server 2012 and I'm looking for a little advice.

We are in the middle of a new Server 2012 deployment for a small organisation (1 physical server, ~10 users, Server 2012 std) and the client has asked if we can provide them with a "seamless" way of accessing remote desktops or remote applications with the minimum effort and interaction.

They have Windows 8 desktops, but upon logon they want to be re-directed to a virtual desktop running from their server, ensuring that no matter which PC they log on from, local or via remote sites, they receive the same virtual desktop.

They do not want to use or be able to access the local machine resources, so essentially the Windows 8 desktops will become thin-clients. Are there feasible ways to achieve this with Server 2012 RDS?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Nathan.

I have setup a 2012 RD Session Host Server and I am deploying RemoteApps. I will like to have some devices redirected using RemoteFX. I have enabled this option with group policy and with the RDP connection client i can select the device under Local Resources. However since users will be using RemoteApp I want to be able to automatically configure the option to have the device redirected but I dont see the option anywhere. Can anyone assist me with how to do this?
