Remote Desktop Protocol 8.0 update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (KB2592687) breaks context menus (right-click and ribbon dropdowns) for RemoteApp Office 2010

Within a day of installing update KB2592687, I had reports of context menus appearing for a fraction of a second then disappearing on RemoteApp session with Office 2010 applications, including Outlook, OneNote, and Word.  On most clients, this problem was not observed at the beginning of a session.  The delay varied from minutes to hours.  Based on internet searching, this appeared to be an office plug-in or install corruption issue.  After repairing Office, modifying registeries, reinstalling Office, and deleting user profiles, I tried removing the KB2592687 update, which only seemed related to the problem because of when it was installed.  Removing KB2592687 appears to fix the problem, based on the last 24 hours.  No one else seems to be having this problem, or they haven't discovered this new cause.

Terminal Services - your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the remote desktop gateway server address is unreachable or incorrect. type a valid remote desktop gateway server address

I've been searching for answer to my issue and most of the threads seem to point to it being a certificate issue.  I wanted to explain our environment in a little more detail though as I think it may be something else causing this.

Terminal Services Gateway UNC - rdsserver01.domain.local
External Address to Access - http://rdsserver01.domainusa.org/rdweb
Added DefaultTSGateway in IIS as rdsserver1.geneva.local

If I access the server internally (by IP or UNC  or external address) I can access remote desktops just fine.

If I go off network, I can access the sign-in page and actually sign in.  I created a Self-Signed Cert using rdsserver01.domainusa.org.  I can get past the certificate errors.  When I attempt to connect using Remote Desktop I get the following message:

your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the remote desktop gateway server address is unreachable or incorrect. type a valid remote desktop gateway server address.

Again, from the threads I've read, they are saying it's a certificate issue.  Or is it some thing simpler like some missed setting?  If any additional information is needed, please let me know and I will try my best to provide it.

RDWeb in WIndows Server 2012... not working

I have a new WS2012 joined to the domain and enabled RDWeb on it and published some apps (calc, paint) to test it.

It does work locally but when I try from the outside world I get the following when I click on an app:

'Your computer can’t connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server address is unreachable or incorrect'

What I checked:

- RD gateway is pointing to the public DNS name

- self signed cert generated for this dns name

- IIS checked and RD pointing to public dns as well

I am not an expert in WS2012 so please advise what else to check

One thing I noticed. When I try to connect, I can see a windows 'remoteapp' and gateway is my public DNS name but remote computer is like this: server.test.local. Is it ok?

Easy Print sporadically used instead of printer mapping file

We're running a 2008 RDS environment where when a user logs in all of their printers are redirected to our server. We have configured it so the Easy Print driver is used as a fallback driver (to use the 2003 terminology) and anything we have specifically mapped in our mapping file is used first. This works correctly, but only sometimes.

I know there are a lot of possible variables in play but we have a lot of experience with troubleshooting TS/RDS printer redirection and easy print and cannot determine why a user would log into the same server once and have their printer get the Easy Print driver and then log in later and correctly get the mapping we set up for their driver in the print map file. The workstation is not changing, the driver has been verified multiple times and is not changing on the client side. What would be the best way to troubleshoot this issue? It seems nothing is logged in the event viewer which indicates why a printer is mapped using the mapping file or gets easy print, is there anything we can enable to diagnose this?

Remote Desktop session has ended :Message when shareing a desktop

I use the following to share two RDT connections on a windows 2003 server

Both the incoming connections are XP to windows 2003 ...... My question is at the bottom of this post.

USEING RDP  to share a desktop on a Server
******************************************
This only works as far as I know when you want to share a RDT on  a server.
This is because the server has the tsadmin program on it.

Initial Server setup In AD
***************************
1. To make RDP work on the particular Account first you must open AD then the "User'.
Click on the [Remote Control] Tab, check ["Enable Remote Control"] option.

2. If you want to allow someone to share the RDP session w/out the person having to click "Yes" to allow you to see their session, uncheck the option ["Require Users Permission"]

3. On the same tab change the setting from
[View the users session ]
to
[Interact with the session]

HOW to set up a connection

How to access the a RDP session
*******************************

connect useing RDP your WorkStation to the Windows 2003 Server where you are eventually going to share the connection with another user.
(If you want to  test this out Open another RDP from a WS to the same 2003 server, this is your second user)

Now "run tsadmin" on the RDP connection on the server. Click on the RDP head that is not green.
Right Click and choose "Remote Control"
(NOT Connect, this seems to actually disconnect)

On the persons RDP desktop that your are trying to share & connect it may ask if you can have permission to join. Say Yes.

Your now both sharing the RDP on the Windows Server.

MY Question:

This worked well for me a couple of times. However now when I connect and the other person connects who connected first gets kicked off with the message:

Remote Desktop Disconnected

Your Remote Desktop Session has ended.

Another User connected to the remote computer, so your connection was lost. Try connecting again, or connect technical support for assistance.

How can I connect to the server and share the connection as I did before?

Thanks.

Can't type username/password via Remote Desktop

Hi

I have three Windows Server 2003 (TS1,TS2,TS3) and install Citrix PS 4.0 on them, TS1 and TS3 work well, but no one can type username/password in the login window of TS2, the mouse is fine, it can be used to click username or password input box, and can also change domain.  But when I use windows remote desktop connection to connect TS2 and save credentials, windows would prompt me to type username and password before RDP window shows, then I can login to TS2 and use both keyboard and mouse as normal. dd

I test to use Dameware Remote Control with MRC's mirror driver (not RDP) to connect TS2, I can type username and passowrd in the login window, everything is well. So I guess the problem is caused by RDP. I checked settings on TS2 with TS1 and TS3, it seems the configuration the same.

How can I type username and password in RDP to login TS2 ?

Windows 2003 App server error

Some users were trying to connect to our App servers here at work, we have two windows 2003 servers using terminal services.  They are both standard version 64 bit and the error I found in the event viewer was "

Windows cannot unload your classes registry file - it is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.  "  I couldn't find anything else at the time we experienced the issue.  So this directed me to the hotfix "

KB Article Number(s): 833781

Language: English

Platform: ia64

Location: (http://hotfixv4.microsoft.com/Windows%20Server%202003/sp1/Fix75374/3790/free/158980_ENU_ia64_zip.exe)"

That hotfix though is for ia64 and the only other download I saw was for x86 which I did try but failed.  Does anyone know where I can get this hotfix for x64 architecture or know of another fix I can try?

TIA!

2012 RDS and publishing full desktop and lockdown

Hi.

I have a lot of customers that today run thinclients against 2008/2008R2 RDS and full desktop, not remoteapps.
I'm working on a proof of concept for the 2012 RDS. I have made a Farm with one RCB and two Session Hosts. I have made a collection and set up DNS.
The farm is alive and I can log onto the servers with users.

What was missing in 2008 R2, and what is missing even more in 2012 seems to be a way to pin items to the taskbar and / or startmenu. Is it possible to publish apps to the new startmenu? Any possibility to customize it at all? So far I can't find any...

2008R2 - GPClient is taking a long time to handle the logon request (Up to 1 hour)

$

Hi

I had this issue a month ago and after spending a day trying to fix it I gave up and rebuilt the server. I had my RDS server built and functioning for 6 months until one day it started taking up to an hour for people to logon on to it, looking at the even logs the only event being logged was the GPClient is taking a long time to handle the logon request and this happend even when trying to logon locally. Rebooting the server didn't solve it, removing the network cables brought the server up so I could logon locally, however plugging the network cables back in instantly slowed the server down and went back to the same message in the event log of the GPClient is taking a long time to handle the request.

Come forward a month and everything was working fine once again until yesterday where a user came to say that they couldn't logon. The message they were getting was "The task you are trying to do can't be completed because Remote Desktop Services is currently busy.  Please try again in a few minutes.  Other users should still be able to log on." Which was true, because I could logon to the server no problem. I decided to restart the server and the server hung (matching http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2601888). A Hard reboot later I am having the same issue as I was having last month with the event log logging the GPClient is taking a long time to handle the logon request. This time, I removed Sophos, disbanded the network team, uninstalled all the network cards from device manager, reinstalled the network cards, connected a single port on the internal network card to the switch, reallocated the static IP, reinstalled Sophos and the server started functioning normally again. It worked fine from last night until 12PM today at which point the logon time jumped from near instant to 20 minutend gradually getting longer, again the GPClient is taking a long time to handle the request. This time I rebooted my core switch and everything started to work again, apart from a few Group Policies being listed in the event log as causing problems and would not be reapplied until the server had been rebooted.

Rebooting the server successfully applies the policy.

The only common link between each time it has happend is it is the GPClient service causing the problem by taking a long time to handle the request. Occaisionally, my proxy settings aren't being applied by the GPO, but normally login off and back on again fixes this so it suggests something is going on with Group Policy, but how can I begin to work that out when it keeps working fine for ages?

Server is fully upto date and has SP1 installed, as it stands at the moment I'm ready to smash it up!

Any help, diagnostics, advice appreciated.

RD Connection broker and VDI clustering

$

I'm investigating Windows Server 2012 VDI and have a few questios I /think/ I know the answers to.  I would appreciate any comments/feedback anyone cares to leave:

1.  Can/should a 2012 RD connection broker(s) be virtualized?  or should it remain physical?

I think a connection broker can be virtualized and furthermore included in a cluster to make the connection server (or servers) itself highly available.

2.  Should a 2012 VDI deployment be separated from a Windows 2012 server cluster?

I think it would be beneficial to have separate clusters for Servers and VDI if simply due to resource allocation, logical separation, and management approaches.

Thanks for any information/thoughts

Hi everybody,

the question in the title remains ;)

We deployed a terminal server 2012 and are now looking for a way to hide administrative tools from the users start menu.

GPO's don't seem to work with the new tiles, I tried lots of things so far. Nothing's satisfying so far.

Ability to change password via Remote App

$

Dear Sirs,

It seems this question has been asked a few times, however, I haven't seen or found an answer to the issue.

I have a need for remote users that use Remote Applications on a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server the ability to change their passwords after they have expired.

I did find a change in the RDP protocol on the TS where you change the security layer to "RDP Security Layer". That works fine if you RDP directly to the server but, doesn't allow a Remote App to even connect to the server after that change. You then get the message "Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because your user account is disabled or your password has expired. Contact your network administrator for assistance."

Is there a resolution to this problem of changing an expired password via a Remote Application?

Thanks for any help,

joe

Unable to save credentials when connecting through an RDP Gateway

$

I've recently set up an RDP Gateway, but my users are unable to connect to it when the "Remember my password" box is checked on the Enter your credentials screen.

If the box is unchecked, the connection proceeds without issues.  The same credentials are used for the RD Gateway Server and the RD Session Host and both are running Windows Server 2008 R2.  The clients are all using Windows XP SP3.  We've tried it with Remote Desktop Client versions 6.0.6001.18589 and 6.1.7600.16385, and get the same issue.

If the box is checked, no errors are displayed, but the Enter your credentials screen is displayed repeatedly.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

RDP problem: Network Level Authentication is not supported on the client?? client=Windows 2007, host=Windows 2008 Server R2

Hi Everyone.

I've just set up a win2008 server cloud at rackspace, very impressed FYI. Anyway I can connect from my Windows 2007 machine via Remote Desktop Connection to the Win2008ServerR2 machine fine using the default settings. However, when I enable "Use Network Level Authentication" (NLA) on the Win2008ServerR2 box, and use RDP to connect from Win2007 I get an error (on the client side) along the lines of "Your machine does not support Network Level Authentication" - now I know the RDP client I am using supports NLA, so any ideas about what is going on? Presumably its a setting somewhere I am missing, but all the documentation says that simply enabling NLA on the host should work if the RDP client supports NLA, which win2007 does.

Thanks in advance.

Mondo

EDIT: The exact error message (on the Win2007 client) is "The remote computer requires Network Level Authentication, which your computer does not support."

"Remember my credentials" in Internet Explorer doesn't remember the password

$

Hello,

I've been wondering why Internet Explorer won't remember any password in a Server 2012 Session Host.  Here's our situation: all Windows Servers 2012, all servers joined to a AD domain;  the servers are RD Session Host, RD Connection Broker and RD Web Access.   We have User Profile Disk enabled.

The first time a user logs on to a remote session and access our internal Sharepoint portal, IE will always ask for a username and password. The user enters the domain credentials, checks the option "remember my credentials" and everything goes fine for a while.   When he closes IE and re-opens it,  it will ask for the password again.    It's like the option "remember my credentials" wouldn't be working.  This problem doesn't happen with a regular physical PC.  Whatsmore, if the user logs out of the remote session, and logs in again, IE will ask again for BOTH username and password.   This is not a single Sharepoint problem, it happens with all Web applications that use AD authentication.

Could this problem be related with the use of User Profile Disk?  Since this is enabled, maybe IE doesn't know where to store the saved credentials.

Please, any help will be greatly appreciatted.

Hi all,

We are experiencing an issue which happens at random whenever a user tries to export data from SAP into Excel or Word.  Excel or Word is started but remain empty.  We then see the below errors in the event log.  And the problem is very random as sometimes all they have to do is wait 10 minutes and the next try will be successful.  Not even log off/on.  Could someone tell me what the error "1260" is saying?     thanks for your help.

Dear,

We configured a Terminal Server 2010 Gateway Farm with 3th party load balancing in front.

When we try to connect to a Terminal Server via this load balanced gateway farm we get error message "Http transport: IN channel could not find a corresponding OUT channel" (event id 210).

Has anyone seen this error before?  What could be the issue?

I did not find any reference to this error message on the support site(s).
