Hi,

For some reason i cannot remote desktop on to our File server. My self and all our users can access all file shares without any issues. That's working absolutely fine as expected.

But I cannot remote desktop on the server. I'm getting the below error message.

Any ideas why i can't remote desktop but can access all file shares without any issues using the same computer. Its connected on the same Network

many thanks,

How limit the number of RDP access to a Server by user

Hi, I have a terminal server accessed by many users. Some users need to have access to more than one connection and some users should not have more than one connection at the same time, for example:
- user A need to be allowed to have 2 connections

- user B cannot have more that 1 connection.

Is there a way I can do it?

Thanks

Windows 2012 RDS cannot get USB redirection to work. TerminalServices-PnPDevices Event 36

I have setup a Windows 2012 RDS session host test environment on a windows 2012 Hyper-V server.

The W2K12 RDS server (a VM)has the RD Web Access/RD Connection Broker and RD Session Host roles installed. I did follow the instructions in http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2012/09/11/remotefx-usb-redirection-in-windows-server-2012-and-windows-8.aspx. And setup a GPO allowing RemoteFX USB redirection for Admins and users. I can't get any webcam redirected into the remote session.

The RDS server eventlog showing following events:

- TerminalServices-ServerUSBDevices(Admin) event 36: Redirection of additional supported devices is disabled by policy

- TerminalServices-PnPDevices(Admin) event 36: Redirection of additional supported devices is disabled by policy

Although no policy restrictions are set via GPO. Any idea where this can come from?

Very few printer drivers work in Server 2012 for redirected printing use

My experience with server 2003 and 2008/R2 has always been that when you have issues with Easy Print you can almost always find a suitable driver to match on client and server and achieve a working solution.

I have had a different experience with Server 2012 though, after getting almost a 1min delay when printing PDFs with Easy Print-driver on a lot of different printer models we hade to abandon Easy Print and start installing model specific drivers instead. This works on some models but on a lot of different drivers, for example Kyocera, Ricoh, we have issues. The most common scenario is that the printer displays ok but as soon as you send a printing job, the job errors out and gets stuck in queue, reminding me a bit of like jobs behave when there are port errors.

Nothing is logged in eventvwr, is it as simple as a lot of drivers out there have to be modified to work in redirected mode on server 2012? I should mention though that some of the drivers not working are listed as being server 2012-compatible.

Windows 8 and RD gateway not working!

I have Windows server 2008 (not R2) server running RD gateway and now finding that any client that has upgraded to windows 8 can longer connect via the RD Gateway server.  We are using domain\username to log in as we have always done with windows 7 RDP client (which just worked).  After reading a number of posts where certain "fixes" or "workarounds" have worked sadly none of these appear to apply to our setup.

I have made sure that ignore client certificates is set to ignore and restarted IIS, I have chacked the server logs and there are no failed logon events, in fact the authentication succeeds but the session isn't created.

Running out of ideas now...any help?

%homeshare% variable not defined on 2008 R2 RDS

I have 4 2008 R2 RDS servers.  2 of these servers correctly set the %homeshare% variable to what is defined in the user properties in AD.  Two of them however do not even set the variable.  When I look in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Volatile Environment, there isn't even a string value defined as HOMESHARE, where in the registry of the two that work properly the value of HOMEPATH is set to\\fileserver\usershare\username.  What would cause these two servers not define %homeshare%?  Thanks

Operations Manager 2012 Console via RemoteApp

$

I have a working Remote App Farm(3 servers with Session host and 1 Connection Broker server) that has allowed my to publish everything from the SCCM 2012 console to 3rd party consoles with no problems, however when I attempt to publish the SCOM 2012 Console ( not the web console) it appears to setup properly, but the program never shows up in the list.

I have verified that all three of the session hosts have the same setup, and that the console runs normally, locally on each server.

Any ideas where / what to check to troubleshoot this?

some more info: the Servers are 2008 R2 x64, and Ops Manager is 2012 Sp1

Windows Server 2008 R2 user login stuck on Welcome Screen

Hi,

We are using Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition as domain controller. This server (Dell PowerEdge R720) is also acting as TS server.

Some user logged in successfully but some stuck on Welcome screen when we try to access through RDC. The problem is same in case of direct login. Even some other application start responding. The only solution is to reboot the server. This problem appear very frequent.

Server is upto date and I have also installed patches given by Dell but no luck.

Can someone please help to fix the issue?

Thanks, Manoj

Firewall and Remote Desktop are both controlled by Group policy, so all PCs have the same settings. I can connect to the server from client computers, I can connect between client computer, but I cannot connect to any PCs FROM the server.

RD Session Broker + NLB doesn't work for external users (internal users on network/WAN are OK)

Hi all,

I have run into an issue as the title of this question suggests.

So the senario is, I have (all Virtual):

2x 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Servers

1x 2008 R2 with Session Broker install

I haven't configured any RD settings on the session broker server (i.e. RD virtual desktop, RD Gateway, etc) It's purely setup as the RD Connection Broker

Each of the RD servers I have configured 2 NIC's. The 1st NIC is configured with NLB (NLB only setup for traffic on port 3389 all other traffic isn't handled by NLB). The other NIC is configured to be used only for session reconnection. I'm hoping this is the right configuration as it's how I have interpreted these guides:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772418%28WS.10%29.aspx

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771300%28WS.10%29.aspx

Please correct me if I have setup the servers incorrectly and what should be differently.

I have setup the NLBs Cluster IP. A rule has been set on the router to make it available externally

This worked fine with an old single RD Server (same IP as NLB Cluster IP, currently offline so no conflict) before the RD Farm was implemented. So I know the port forwarding is OK.

So NLB and Connection Broker Load-Balancing work well for users inside the network. It spreads sessions evenly and there is no problem with DNS resolving the farm name etc. Sessions that are disconnected are reconnected to the same server, etc.

Accessing the TS Farm from the external address isn't so successful

Connectivity is random. Rarely it works, sometimes it gets to "initiating remote connection..." and then disconnects. It doesn't work more times than it does.

So what do I need to do to get this working? Is there another component or something else that I need to configure to get it all working?

I look forward you your help

Thanks,

Trent

Remote Desktop Services license associated with a user.

Hello,

We have implemented a Remote Desktop Services Server that we have remote users from Puerto Rico access. My question is that while I was setting up the RDS server, my username actually takes up a license which is set to expire. Is there a way to reduce the time interval on releasing a license?

User account (in administrator group) cannot connect to win2k8 r2 server via remote desktop "Your credentials did not work", can connect via console.

Hi,

Trying to remote from Win7 to Win2k8 r2 server, on an account that used to work fine. However it now rejects the user/pass, it can login to the server fine from console. Another account works fine remoting in. Both are in the administrator group.

Just in case I added this user to the Remote Desktop Users group, which made no difference.

Also, I created a new user account in the administrator group and it has the same issue.

Thanks,

Add virtual desktops to Desktop Session Collection

$

Hey guys,

I'm currently doing a trial on implementing desktop virtualization into my company with around 20-30 users and so far everything is going fine except for a few problems.

I will be using Windows Server 2012 Datacenter to host the sessions and right now I Virtual Desktop pool & 1 Session Desktop Pool. I have successfully created 5 virtual desktop in the Virtual Desktop Pool and also created a Session Desktop Pool. However, I have no idea how do I add virtual desktops to the Session Desktop Pool as I can't find an option for that.

I have tried accessing the Session Desktop Pool from RDWeb but all I get is a session onto my Windows Server OS. How do I go about that? I can't seem to find a solution to that.

If there's anyone out there that can advise me on this issue, I'll be glad! :)

RDWeb in WIndows Server 2012... not working

I have a new WS2012 joined to the domain and enabled RDWeb on it and published some apps (calc, paint) to test it.

It does work locally but when I try from the outside world I get the following when I click on an app:

'Your computer can’t connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server address is unreachable or incorrect'

What I checked:

- RD gateway is pointing to the public DNS name

- self signed cert generated for this dns name

- IIS checked and RD pointing to public dns as well

I am not an expert in WS2012 so please advise what else to check

One thing I noticed. When I try to connect, I can see a windows 'remoteapp' and gateway is my public DNS name but remote computer is like this: server.test.local. Is it ok?

Is it possible to use an external dns name for the DNS round robin name in RDS?

Cannot access Remote Desktop Services

I am having a weird problem with Remote Desktop Services

I am using a Windows 2012 Foundation Server stand alone and not part of a Domain and there is not active directory install on the said machine.

When I am trying to access Remote Desktop Services configuration, I am getting the following error :
"You are currently logged in as local administrator on the computer. You must be logged in as a domain user to manage servers and collections."

How can I solve this problem so as to configure a number of remote apps to run.
