Accessing recently build RDS server does not trigger MFA authentication

$

I built a 2016 RDS/RD Gateway VM with roles of RD Access, RD Gateway, NPS, Licensing server, RD Broker.

I have installed the MFA agent configured the same as other RDS Servers.

The new server is named RDS-GW and the gateway portion is working properly, however, I cannot get the MFA to trigger when trying to access from outside of our network, or within the network on an untrusted IP range.

When configuring the MFA agent, all other MFA servers are listed.

All other RDS servers are triggering the MFA when trying to connect to them.

Any help will be appreciated.

Remote desktop printing not working from windows 10 to window 7 pc

I am using remote desktop to remote from a Windows 10 client to a window 7 machine and printer re-direction is not working.  I have enabled this in the remote desktop connection setting but the printer does not get mapped.  I have ensured they are using the same driver.  There are no ports re-directed on the windows 7 machine (so no TS01 ports).  Any idea's?

Thanks

Unable to add RDSH to existing Collections

Current Setup

2x RDS Brokers – Server 2012 R2

1x RDS SQL Database / RD License / RD Web Access / no RS Gateway configured

Round Robin DNS configured to both Brokers – working as intended

5x RDSH 2012 R2 servers for PROD collection

2x additional RDS 2012 R2 servers yet to be added

The environment is used to connect to either a DEV, TEST or PROD app. Separate collections are setup for each. Domain Users have access to the collections and apps. Security to the apps is handled by the app itself with separate login requirements.

The Problem

I have built two new RDSH servers to help with capacity as the number of users has increased dramatically since the solution was released many years ago. When I try and add these new servers into the current PROD collection, I get an error “Unable to retrieve collection properties” and the wizard ends.

However, and here’s the odd part.  When I create a new collection, I can add the two new servers plus one of the other PROD RDSH servers (I removed it as part of testing) to the newly created collection. I also have the same problem if I try just adding one of the old RDSH servers too. If I remove one of the RDSH servers from this Test Collection I can’t then re-add it back again. I have to scrap the collection completely and build a new one.

I’ve switched RDMS logging on and the logs don’t tell me anything I don’t already know – copy of log below (redacted server names). All servers im testing with are at the same current patch level too.

RdmsUI: Job finished for cmdlet RDManagement\Add-RDSessionHost

Has anyone encountered this problem before and if so, how did you solve it? Is this an issue with the RDS SQL database?  If so, is there way I can fix it? Restoring isn’t an option as we don’t know how long its been like this and would take far too long in going through backups.

Thanks

Microsoft Edge access the to RD Web Access site - RDP and wrong credentials

We have RD Web on 2016 server (we use this server for administrative work on our network).  The users access from RD Web from  their desktops(using standard user credentials). When logging in to RD Web, the users us their administrative accounts (domain admin).

The users are able to run the remoteapps using IE11.

When using Microsoft Edge, accessing the remoteapps, RDP file is downloaded. I don't mind that.  But, the connection wants to use the standard  credentials instead of the admin account used to logon to web server. This does not happen in IE11.

How do I solve the credential issue in Microsoft Edge with the Remote Apps?

Thank you.

Connection Broker unable to connect any user to available workstations

$

I have a fail-over cluster with two host servers and one connection broker. Each server is running Server 2016. Within the RDS deployment, there are multiple pools for individual workstation pools. The virtual machines in the pools are running Windows 10. We have a similar deployment for many sites across our company. They work pretty flawlessly most of the time. However, occasionally an issue arises where all users will receive the "requested session access is denied". Upon investigating, the services seem to be running, as expected. The virtual machines in the pools are running, and I can connect to them via Hyper-V Manager. There is just some disconnect that arises between the Connection Broker, the RDS Deployment, and the vms. The quick fix I've found is to restart the Connection Broker, which resolves the issues. I've tried restarting only the Remote Desktop Connection Broker service, but that didn't correct the problem.

In the event logs, at the time of the problem, I'm seeing:

RD Connection Broker could not find an assigned Personal Virtual Desktop for user XXXXX. HRESULT = 0x80070005

and

RD Connection Broker failed to process the connection request for user XXXXX. Load Balancing failed or Specified endpoint could not be found. Error: Access is denied.

Again, this is for ALL users across the deployment, and the issue is corrected when restarted the connection broker. I'm stumped. Has anyone seen this before or have any insight?

Rename Collection Alias

Hello Folks,

I'm on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and I have a RDP Session Collection.  I've renamed the collection from "QuickSessionCollection" to something else, yet the alias is still "QuickSessionCollection" when I run Get-RDSessionCollection

Is there a way for me to rename the CollectionAlias property?  I've looked at Set-RDSessionCollectionConfigurationbut I don't see anything concerning the alias.

If this isn't possible, is there a way to import/export SessionCollection apps?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

RDS server - The display settings can't be changed from a remote session

Hi guys,

I have a virtual server based on Windows Server 2016 Standard that serves as a  Remote desktop Services server.

Users who connect to it via RDC client need to change scaling of size of text, apps and other items from recommended 100% to 125%.

However, these settings are not available even for accounts with administrator's privileges.

Is there any workaround for this issue?

Regards

RemoteFX on Hyper-V Console but not through RDP

Hi,

have a hard time right now. My setup is a Windows Server 2016 on a HP DL380p Gen8 Server with a Nvidia Quadro K4000 GPU. My goal was to create a VDI with user based Windows 10 Enterprise desktops my users can connect to with RemoteFX enabled.

Unfortunately I cant get it to work. As soon as I enable the RemoteFX GPU within the Hyper-V settings of any of the VM's I cant connect via RDP from another Windows 10 with MSTSC anymore.

- I get the user/password promt and enter both. (I now the authentication works because if I enter wrong credentials I get an password error)

- I see the "Remote Connection is being secured..." message and a second later the error message: "Your Remote Session has ended, possibly for one of these reasons:. The Administrator ended, the session Network Error...

BUT:

If I RDP into the Hyper-V Server (RDVSH) and open the Hyper-V Manager I can click on the same machines console and login - with RemoteFX enabled (as I can see within device manager "Microsoft RemoteFX Graphics Adapter WDDM...")

If I remove the GPU using Hyper-V Manager I can connect from the Windows 10 client with MSTSC to my VM Windows 10 just fine.

Other things I checked:

- Using Windows Server 2019 (same effect)

- clean non-domain windows 10 machine (same effect)

- MSTSC with the 10 MBit LAN option and not automatic detection (same effect)

Re-establish RDS Services - Only allowing two connections

$

Hello,

I have a server that went offline (computer was disabled on the domain). I enabled it and it's active on the domain now. This server has RDS installed. It's suppose to allow up to 10 concurrent connections but it somehow went back to the standard two concurrent connections. From my understanding this server is suppose to pull it's licenses from another server we'll call server2.

I was wondering how I could re-establish this connection back to server2 to pull the licenses it needs?

Login script not mapping drives for users

$

I am in the process of configuring a new Windows 2008 terminal server in an existing Windows 2003 domain.  The TS is installed on a member server running Windows Server 2008 SP2.  The problem is that the domain login script (set in group policy) does not seem to be working for the users.

I have a special TS group policy for the new terminal server and have enabled loopback processing on the default domain policy. The only setting configured in the TS policy is the location of the user's terminal server roaming profile. This seems to be working.  Other than the login script, other elements of the domain-level group policy, such as folder redirection, seem to be working. When I run the GP result tool on the terminal server, it shows all of the appropriate group policies from both the TS policy and the domain-level policy, including the login script.  This login script is vital, since it does drive mapping for a bunch of resources on the domain that users need to run certain programs.  The odd thing is that the login script runs for the Administrator account, which uses a separate group policy that has inheritance blocked.

Any help would be appreciated!

Server Authentication Certificate Template GP setting not updating registry

$

Hi,

I'm working on a windows 2012 domain, and I've applied the Server Authentication Certificate Template group policy to a 2012 server I'm working on (I applied the relevant GPO to the OU that the server is in). I set it (by oid) to use a certificate template that is configured on the CA. The template has Server and Client Auth in the Application Policy extension.

An RSOP on the target server reports that the GP setting has been applied.

The registry setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\TemplateCertificate hasn't appeared on that server though. The certificate isn't being enrolled (it doesn't appear in certlm.msc) and the self-signed certificate is still being presented when RDPing to the server.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

An Internal error has ocurred, Server 12 r2

I use RDP to connect to a Server12. It will work fine from the Win 7 Ultimate computer I use. I am setting up a Win 10Pro Enterprise computer (using the same hardware except for larger SSD hard drive). I am unable to connect from the new Win 10 setup, Hyper-V virtual Win 7pro, another Win 7Pro on my network , my Win 12 server or an Android app. I have disabled the Sophos UTM firewall on the remote system to test. I cannot find an error message in the event logs for any of the systems. The remote server does log"Listener RDP-Tcp received a connection" but nothing after that. If I use the incorrect credentials I get an authentication error but I don't see it logged. I have installed a new self signed cert. I am using a non-standard port but I use the same on my Server 12 and can remote in from anywhere.  I have noticed that in the Sophos firewall log that the good connection results in first a TCP connection then a UDP. The incomplete connections do not have a UDP connection.

Any help would be appreciated.

Restrict one session per user for collection

$

Hello,

I have 2 RDS Hosts behind an RD Gateway, RD Broker.

Is there a way to restrict each user to only one session in a Collection ?

I am using User Profile Disk (UPD) on a file share.

I can restrict one user session on each host, but since I have 2 hosts, the user can log on to the second host if there is already an active session in the first host. The second session ends up with a temporary profile when the user logs on because the UPD is already in use for the first host.

How do I configure it such that a user can only have one session when launching any RemoteApp from the web browser ?

Thank you for any help.

Multiple terminal session

we have deployed windows 2019 terminal servers and found that user were return to parent windows when clossing child window. For example,

Session 1: User logged in to the server using published application. Opens child window from the same session.

Session 2:  Same User logged in to published application (which gives the same session on the server), launch the windows. Opens child windows.

Issue: when user closes child windows from session 2, it takes him to parent windows of session 1.

We never had this issue for windows 2008 terminal server session.

So is there any settings in the window server 2019 that should activate parent windows of the same session.

Thanks

Remotedesktopgateway - Configuration issue

$

Hi everyone,

I have a Win Server 2016 with RD Services on it. Everything is running fine but Remotedesktopgateway cannot be configured by me. I installed the role without errors but configuration ends in the error:

RD Gateway Configuration Failed on [X] With Error: Unable to configure the RD Gateway server: [X] . The error is You cannot call a method on a null-valued expression.. (event-id 4119)

I found no solutions to resolve this issue on the web. I think the problem occurs already during the installation process because the RPC application is missing in the IIS. It's not the first installation of the RDG. Maybe there are some old entries in the registry what cause this failure but I do not know where to search ... Would be nice to get some help from the community ...

Thanks,
Chris
