We have enabled Remote Desktop Services: Session Shadowing for local server 2012R2

1.we have edited Groupr policy in Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Servers\Remote Desktop Session Host\Connections\Set rules for remote control of Remote Desktop Services user sessions

in level--View Session without user’s permission

2.we have enabled roles like

Remote Desktop Connection Broker
Remote Desktop Licensing.
Remote Desktop Session Host.
Remote Desktop Web Access.

still we are not able to see Collections in Remote Desktop Services,

and session-2 is prompting to give access when we are taking access from session-1 command prompt ----only a popup of some GUI is appearing on session-1 (only for millisecond)

Please help me to resolve this issue

Blackscreen after logon

Hi

We have a problem with logon times on our RDP 2012R2 servers. It must be related to the roaming profile.

The problem:

The users logon on via RDP. The profile gets loaded, applying group policy settings and so on, and then the "black screen" starts. I can take up to 15 minutes before the users desktop is visible and ready to work.

While there are black screen I can press CTRL+ALT+DEL and go to the task manager. The only process that is working is explorer.exe.

If we create a new profile the users are logged in less than a minute, but the logon process and the time for the black screen increases over time. It happens for all our users on our 30 RDS servers.

Any suggestions?

Server 2012 R2 RDSH User profile disks, exclude temp directories

$

Hi,

As per this Google bug page: here

We cannot use the legacy browser extension in our session host environment.

It seems the work around is to exclude the temp and tmp directories of a user profile, from their user profile disk.

Can someone advise the appropriate syntax to use in the Remote Desktop deployment properties section of server manager to exclude these folders? Everything I have tried thus far has not worked, and my only working way of doing this is to change their environment variables at login via a script deployed using group policy. This is not ideal, as this does not complete before the user's session is initialised, meaning it is not effective until their second login.

Excluding the folder via deployment properties would be far neater, and more effective from the get go.

Thanks

Remote desktop host goes to sleep after a very few minutes of inactivity

Power options have been checked. Both systems are running Windows 10 version 1909.

I have Wake on Lan on the client machine and it will reawaken the host but when it does, the sound is no longer redirected and the only solution I have found to that is to reboot the host. I will then work until the next time it goes to sleep.

Cannot connect to Remote Desktop from Android (error 0x1307), but I can from a Windows PC

Using Group Policy Editor, I have added Administrators into Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Deny access to this computer from the network. This is to make sure that file sharing users cannot bypass the NTFS rights. However, I want members of the Administrators group to be able to login interactively using Remote Desktop. It works from Windows PCs, but not from Microsoft RD Client for Android, where I get the following error message:

  • We couldn't connect to the remote PC because the admin has restricted the type of logon that you may use. Ask you admin or tech support for help. Error code: 0x1307

I can connect from Android only if I remove that policy.

Any ideas?

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Service not starting

$

Hi Guys,

My Remote Desktop Connection Broker service (Windows server 2016) is unable to start, when I try to start it this is what appears:

I than go and take a look at the dependencies tab and it says that, This service depends on the following system components

Remote Procedure Call (PRC)
Windows Internal Database

I can see that the “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” services is Running fine but “Windows Internal Database” is not.

Here is where my problem is:

When I try to start “Windows Internal Database” services this is what it comes back with:

I then go to the “Log On” tab and the user that is trying to logon to start this service is

NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID

So the problem is clearly with this user and/or password.

My Question is:

  1. How can I confirm that this user is created? Where can I find it?
  2. If this user is not created or has been removed, can I re-create this user again? If so, how?
  3. How did this happen?

Kind Regards

Users have started to be prompted with an "Accept and connect" dialog for valid certificates

Hi,

Users who are using Microsoft Remote Desktop version 10 (on Mac and Windows) are being prompted to accept the Remote Desktop Gateway Services certificate when attempting to connect. The certificate is valid and this has only started occurring recently.

This is also not happening on older versions of either MacOS or Windows clients, nor is it an issue when using the older MSTSC client.

Can you please advise if this is a known issue and if so what can be done to rectify.

Thanks,

Aaron

Is "anywhere access" available on server 2019?

From my reading Server 2019 Essentials does not support "Anywhere Access" like 2012 did.  We are looking to replace our current Windows 2012 Essentials therefore can I assume that Windows 2019 (not Essentials) supports "Anywhere Access" or whatever it is now called to allow users to access their workstations in the office?

RDS 2019 hanging at "Configuring Remote Session"

Hi,

Our set-up:

  • 2 x Windows 2019  RDS gateway servers + RDWEB + RD Web Client
  • 1 x Windows 2019  RDS Connection Broker
  • 14 x Windows 2019 RDS sessions hosts in 8 collections
  • 4 x Windows 2016 RDS session hists in 2 collection
(All servers do have the latest patches installed and are running ESET protection for servers)

Every x days when a user tries to connect they are getting stuck at "Configuring remote session".
After 5 minutes they are presenting with an error that the RDS gateway server isn't available.
This is not the case for every user, just randomly around 50% of the users.

Once we rebooted both of the RDS gateway server everything works fine again.

The strange thing is that we can;t find any Error/Warning at the evenlog.
ESET anti virus we enabled debug logging but that server also isn't logging any errors/warnings/blocked stuff..

Any idea what could be the issue and how we could resolve it ?

Server 2012 R2 RDS sessions keep disconnecting

Hi there

Having issues with an RDS connection to a new 2012 R2 Server, fully updated, issue occurs to all Clients simultaneously. Sometimes brief disconnection (2 - 3 seconds) sometimes a lot longer.

Already performed the "keep alive=1" group policy hack but still happening.

Event ID40 reason codes 0 and 5 mainly - yet my licensing all checks out OK? I have 50 RDS cals but only 7 users - Ive split them into 25 per device and 25 per user to see if it makes any difference (No)

However The License diagnoser  states that ZERO licenses have been issued? Is this a problem? Too much of a Noob to know myself.

many thanks

But this issue clears when we restart the server, but after couple of weeks this issue comes back again. Its quite frustrating. Can anyone share their ideas if they have experience such kind of issue.

This issue happens only with one user among 10-12 users.

2019 RDS and Windows 10 Clients Remote App starts and stays minimized

We are testing LABELVIEW 2019 in our environment on a brand new and fully patched 2019 RDS Server.

Two out of three published apps LABEL MATRIX Converter and LABELVIEW Converter open up just fine,

however the main LABELVIEW 2019 App opens minimised and stays minimised. The Win 10 Pro client

has also all the latest updates and is 1809 version.

The same LABELVIEW 2019 APP launches fine on a Remote Desktop.

Thank you!

RDP to server shows on all remote desktop monitors. Want just one, and rest local desktop

When I log in to our server for accounting softward, it puts the software on one, but has the other two screens taken as well with the background so we can't access the local screen without minimizing the server file being used. I went into the server and changed to only one but still when on a multiple screen remote user, it takes all three.  TIA!

Can't Publish RADC Work Resources to a session with redirected StartMenu

$

Hello,

I have a big RDS farm at a client, which mixes RDSH and RemoteApp session.

I'm able to publish those work resources into Session open into the RDSH collection of my farm. This way, my user (on their thinclient) are able to access the RemoteApp published by the collection, everything works fine, but I had to use the Windows 7 way, with the Powershell script and the feed.aspx file.

Everything fine this way, and our end-user are pleased to have direct access to the app from their Windows session.

But we also need to use redirected StartMenu via GPO, and when this is set, we cannot publish the Work Resources anymore.

I know that publishing those work resources create an entry in the start menu, but if I deactivate the publishing GPO, apply the redirected StartMenu GPo, I can't manually publish those Work Resources.

Any ideas of the why, and maybe the how to correct this ?

Force each new specific user app launch to take a new host - RDS 2016

$

Hi,

I have a OCR software published as a RemoteApp distributed in several servers. The problem is that this software only allows one simultaneous connections per user, per server. In some scenarios I have to run multiples instances of this software simultaneously. I do not want to connect manually to the available host to launch the software. I really want to use it as an RemoteApp. Is there a policy or any other way to force, in a given collection, each new specific user app launch to take a new host. To give an example:

simple RDS architecture: 1 broker + 5 hosts (A to E) - RemoteApp : App1

User Paul launch App1 - broker takes server A

Paul launch 2nd instance of App1 - broker cannot take Server A, it takes server C.

Fred launch App1  - broker takes server A.

Paul 3rd instance of App1 - broker cannot take server A or C, it takes server B.

Fred 2nd App1 - server D

Paul closes 2nd instance

Paul launch 4th instance - broker may now take server C again as 2nd instance is now closed.

Sorry for the long example. Just to clear.

Windows Server 2019 and RemoteApps - "The number of local display monitors exceeds the limit allowed by the remote computer" error

$

Hello -

I am getting a strange error when I attempt to access an application via RemoteApps. The error is "The number of local display monitors exceeds the limit allowed by the remote computer."

I have 6 monitors. The RemoteApps server has the display limit set to the default of 16. I am running Server 2019 as my desktop and the RemoteApps server is also running Server 2019. For all my Googlefu, I've not been able to find much about this specific error.

First, I'm assuming that the RemoteApps display limit is for all concurrent connections? Is this accurate? If this is the case, it would make sense that my 6 monitors put us over the 16 screen limit, as my co-workers that use this RemoteApps server all have multiple screens.

Second, can the display limit for RemoteApps be increased from 16?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

RDS Server (2016) design requirements for TLS 1.2 only.

$

Hi All,

The basics...

I want to build 3x "jump box" RDS Servers in 3x different departmental subnets with firewalls between each subnet in a single domain, single forest.

Currently only the required ADDS, DNS and DHCP network ports / flows are allowed between each departmental subnet. All other services for each department sit within their own subnets....RDP will be the only exception...I need to be able to assign security groups the ability to RDS into either DEV / UAT / OFFICE networks from the OFFICE network where our users log into and sit from a domain perspective.

I have got all 3 jump box RDS servers working but only if I leave TLS 1.0 / 1.1 /1.2 enabled on the RDS servers...my company security policy requires us to use TLS1.2only and have the older two protocols disabled.

Where and how can this configuration be made and changed, in my EventVwr checks and online reading it seems I need to address 1 or 2 or both of the below to work.

1. WinRM

I'm currently unable to PSRemote from one subnet to another. Will addressing the required ports and directional flows for WinRM resolve this alone or...

2. TLS Requirements

Do I need to somehow address TLS 1.2 config - this confuses me as I though TLS 1.2 was default for Server 2016?

As always, thanks in advance for your time...

durrie.

Remote Desktop Server and domain Controller on the same server

Which Windows Server versions allow installing the Remote Desktop Server and the Domain Controller role on the same server?

Windows server 2008 R2 does, what about later versions?
